Daniel and his friends were playing soccer at one of  Orlando’s local parks and in the heat of the game he fell and twisted his ankle.  And as it was very warm out and the humidity was high his hands were not only sweaty but now they were full of grass and sand!  Having been married for only 1 year he was in the habit of wearing it all the time and also had a habit of feeling it with his thumb and spinning it…and he said it was a bit loose as well.  He had no idea that it would come off so easy and when he stood up to hobble off to his car, he immediately realized that his ring was missing.  He and his friends tried searching through the thick grass and after well over an hour he gave up and headed home to take care of his swollen ankle.  Later that evening Daniel was searching on Google and typed « Metal Detector Rental »  and as he scrolled through the options he came across theringfinders.com and found my number.  We made arrangements to meet the next morning at the park.   It was a beautiful morning and as we walked to the field Daniel explained what happened and  was very precise about where he fell!    Within minutes I found his lost titanium wedding ring with my Deus 2 metal detector.  Daniel was overcome with emotion and as he smiled he said a sincere « Thank you Mike…you saved my marriage! »  What an absolute joy and honor it was to help Daniel and his young wife and to be a help and blessing to them!

Austin and his dear wife had a bit of an argument over a small issue and in the midst of the conversation he had a fleeting thought to throw his ring!  And that passing thought led him to slip his ring off of his finger and gently toss it into the grass…thinking that he would easily be able to find it later and everything would be AOK!  But as is the case here in Florida with the St. Augustine grass…any small item dropped into this kind of grass basically disappears quickly and proves to be very difficult to find.  Austin spent an hour or two searching on his hands and knees and eventually went out and purchased a low end metal detector and searched for three hours more.  The metal detector sounded off everywhere he walked and ended up making the situation even more frustrating.

That evening his wife typed in « How to find a ring in the grass » on Google and eventually theringfinders.com website came up and offered the exact service and help they were needing.  Austin called me early the next morning and we made arrangements to meet 3 hours later.  Austin showed me the small area where he tossed his ring and I set out 4 cones and showed him how to adjust his metal detector and encouraged him to start sweeping his detector exactly like I was doing.  I told him to start on one end of the marked out area and I began on the other end.  I had the advantage of a Garrott pin pointer to investigate any signal that sounded like a shallow white gold ring and after numerous pieces of can slaw I spotted his brand new white gold wedding ring pressed down into the dirt.  Austin was super  relieved and so very thankful to have his lost ring back and glad for the happy ending.  I thank God for allowing me to find and return Austin’s wedding ring and to be a blessing to this young couple!

Lost wedding ring found under dock, Cocoa Beach, Florida…and returned to grateful owner!

Doug and his wife had just returned from a beautiful day out on the water fishing and as they unloaded some personal items onto the dock a very special ring dropped from the small table and bounced and managed to fall directly through one of the cracks and into the water below. This was a super sentimental ring and meant the world to Doug’s dear wife. Doug got right at trying to find someone who could retrieve the ring and looked up « Ring Finder » on his phone. Theringfinders.com service came up and he noticed a number of members of this service were in the area but none of them were equipped to do an underwater search of this kind. Doug eventually found my number and gave me a call.

It was the middle of December and I attempted a recovery dive but the water was just way too cold and we decided to try again later on the following summer. So in May when the weather and water temperatures were much more bearable I showed up to give it another try. The oyster shells were strewn across the bottom and this made digging difficult and the visibility was only a foot or two…until I would start digging and then visibility went to 10 inches. Other members of theringfinders.com have shared a wonderful idea that helps with grid searching in these types of conditions and that is a sinking pvc square that will sit on the bottom which allows me to methodically search an area even though I cannot actually see where I am going or where I have been but by following the grid with one hand and scanning the bottom with my small handheld metal detector with the other hand…I can cover an area very thoroughly and when finished I am able to move the pvc grid to another area and thoroughly search that area as well until I find what I am looking for. (Doug had also informed me that a few years back the dock was completely destroyed in a hurricane…so there was an awful lot of other signals to sift through before God allowed me to find Doug’s wife’s lost ring!)

What an honor it was to help find and return this precious lost ring to its rightful owner!!

Lost ring in Big Sand Lake, Orlando, Florida….Found with a metal detector!

I received a call from Jason asking if I could help him find his wife’s diamond engagement ring that was thrown into a 10 foot deep canal! Of course I had more than a few questions to help me determine the likelihood of actually finding her lost ring. Come to find out one of Jason’s sons got a hold of his mom’s ring and, for some strange reason, decided to run outside and give it a toss into the water! After hearing the story of what all happened I decided to take my kayak and check out what I was up against. Turns out the water was exactly 10 feet deep with lily pads on both sides of the canal and at least a foot of silt on the bottom with a whole lot of aquatic weeds of different kinds as well. Jason pointed to the « area » where he was fairly sure the ring landed and I dropped a weight and marker for the following days search.

Scuba was required and I opted to use my Blu3 Nemo Dive system and the hand held Pulse Dive scuba detector combined with a PVC grid layout that measured 6 foot by 10 foot. After clearing a path thru the lily pads I towed my PVC grid out over the target area and let it sink to the bottom. I spent the next two hours scouring the bottom and moving my grid to be sure I was covering, what I thought was the exact spot, where the ring hit the water. And as I was finishing up…Jason’s dear wife came out to see how it was going and she said, « I think it landed more to the right! » So with one last push I switched out my battery, moved my PVC grid and prayed to God that Mrs Jason was correct! I swept my hand held pin pointer all the way around my grid and as I was finishing up I got one last small signal. I grabbed down into the mud trying to feel the object that was causing the detector to beep and finally found a small circular object. At first I thought it might be just a washer or rusty nut but as I cleared the mud away I held it up close to my dive mask and I could just make out a shiny diamond…and not just one diamond but a whole bunch of diamonds! I literally started yelling and hollering… »I found it, I found it, thank you God, thank you God! » Jason and his wife were stunned and so, so thankful to have their ring back…especially since they were moving the next day to California!!

Lost ring in the water, Daytona Beach, Florida…found by Florida ring finder!

Rachel, from Alabama, was vacationing in Daytona Beach and one afternoon her and her family were in waist deep Atlantic ocean water hitting a volleyball back and forth and she felt her ring come off of her finger and watched as it disappeared in the waves. She was devastated and tried frantically to find it and after awhile someone spotted a man metal detecting along the beach. They approached the man, Wayne was his name, and asked if he could help them find Rachel’s lost silver and turquoise ring. Wayne tried his best but for some reason he could not locate it. Thoughtfully he asked Rachel for her contact number just in case he happened to find it at a later date and that gave Rachel some hope…but not much for she thought surely she would never see her ring again.

Ten days later I decided to hit the beach and do some metal detecting in the water and I often go to Daytona Beach and randomly pick a beach to hunt and on this day I chose the waters in front of the Hilton and the Club Wyndam Ocean Walk area. I usually like to detect in the water and on that particular day I found a couple of rings, coins and a few junk ear rings. During the day I spotted two other guys metal detecting and struck up a conversation with them and as is the custom we always ask one another… »Have you found anything good today? » So I pulled out my finds and when Wayne saw the silver and turquoise ring he said, « Hey, I think I know the lady who lost that ring! » And sure enough later that evening Wayne sent me the young lady’s phone number and she confirmed it was indeed her lost ring! How cool is that! So a few days later I boxed up Rachel’s ring and put it in the mail! She was thrilled to have her ring back and her beautiful smile says it all!

Lost wedding ring in sand, Daytona Beach, Florida….Found!

Vincent and his wife Liz were here in Daytona Beach, Florida celebrating a special anniversary and enjoying a warm summer day at the beach. They decided to rent an umbrella, a beach chair and a small table from Glenn and Robin at Doc’s Beach Rental! Before going into the water Liz took her three rings off and put them in a small side pocket of her backpack and set it down on the sand next to the lawn chair. As they swam and enjoyed the water the tide was slowly coming up and getting close to Liz’s backpack so she decided to set the backpack on its side up on the small table. Of course not realizing that one of her precious rings had fallen out onto the wet sand. They swam awhile longer and then grabbed their towels, sandals and backpack and headed for their room to shower, change and get to the airport to catch their plane for home. After cleaning up and getting dressed Liz went to put her rings on and realized one of her rings was missing. They hurried down onto the beach and desperately searched for her ring and it was nowhere to be found. They asked the kind couple at Doc’s Beach Rentals to keep their eyes open just in case and with deep sadness in their hearts they headed to the airport! Later that day Vincent found theringfinders.com website and gave me a call. Again I always ask allot of questions to help me narrow down as close as possible where the missing ring is hiding. (And I always warn people to NOT post information about their lost item and its location on Facebook or Craigslist…UNTIL I have a chance to figure out all the details and have the opportunity to thoroughly search the area.).

The following day I made plans to search at low tide and I hoped to be able to meet the friendly couple who run Doc’s Beach Rentals and gather what information I could about the exact location and where they normally put out their beach chairs and umbrellas. Upon my arrival at the location I saw there were a few people swinging metal detectors right in the area where Vincent and Liz indicated she had lost her ring! I was stunned and soon learned that Liz had actually posted on Facebook what she had lost and where she lost it!!! I desperately hoped I was not too late and after talking to the rental personnel I decided to conduct my own search. As I walked towards the main target area I could see the drag marks and obvious indications that someone had searched this area already. So I went as close as possible to the first beach chair and umbrella and began my grid search and I had not walked 20 feet and BAM! A sharp, solid, shallow signal indicated a good target and as I slowly pushed the wet sand away I could see a beautiful white gold rim of a ring with little diamonds along the one side and there was Liz’s lost ring! Another miracle of how God allows a lost ring to be found and returned to its rightful owner!

Thank you Vincent and Liz for trusting me to search for, to find and to return to you what you thought was lost forever!

Lost ring in the grass, Maitland, Fl….Found and returned to owner!

Jacob and his girlfriend were at a church event when it came time to step out on the grass behind the church and have a free-for-all with a large tub of water balloons. And after it was all said and done Jacob looked down and realized his special class ring was gone and he could not believe it had come off of his finger without him realizing it! He and a few friends immediately started looking thru the grass hoping to spot his large gold ring. With only a few weeks left of school–his senior year at that—he could not imagine graduating without his ring. Part of his class ring has symbols that commemorate his dear grandfather so it held allot of sentimental value to Jacob and his family.

Jacob’s mother came to the rescue by typing « Metal detector rental Orlando, Florida » on her phone and theringfinders.com web site came up. (People are so surprised to hear that there actually is a very unique service which helps people find their lost rings. A skilled group of metal detector enthusiasts who offer their time, talents and abilities to help people find what they thought was lost forever!)

After talking to Jacob and making arrangements to meet later in the day I packed up my van and headed towards Orlando. As I drive I try to imagine what sort of search is ahead for me. I always let my family and my elderly parents (Father is 89 and my mother is 88) know that I am heading out on a search and I ask them to pray for me, that God would help me be a blessing and that He would lead me to find whatever it is that has been lost.

Later that afternoon I met Jacob and he showed me the area where they were all running around and throwing balloons. He mentioned he was throwing mostly toward the road so I set out my 4 corner flags and began my tight grid search. It took 20 minutes or so to cover the main area and I began thinking about how and where he would have been throwing and I told Jacob to walk side by side with me as we searched with our eyes the short, trashy area on the other side of the road. I explained that his ring very easily could have gone quite a distance past the small grass area and I pointed to the chainlink fence along the railroad tracks and said, « Look that area over as well, because there is a good chance it went thru the fence ». So Jacob began walking the fence line and I returned to swinging my detector. Within minutes I heard Jacob holler, « There it is!! » And low and behold his ring was sitting on the rocky gravel area a few feet behind the fence. We borrowed a ladder from the good people at the church and I went over the fence to retrieve his ring! Jacob was so relieved to have his ring back and I was thrilled for him as well!
