Engagement Ring Found in Vermont Snow

  • from Barre (Vermont, United States)

2/23/25

I got a call yesterday from a couple who had lost her engagement ring in the deep powder snow. They had recently purchased a beautiful farm in Central Vt and were out enjoying a little Winter exploration of the 400 acres.

When they stopped for some lunch, they discovered her ring was missing. They desperately dug all through the snow with their hands, having no luck.

So, we set a time for this morning to meet there. We started hiking up the hill and stopped part way to put on snowshoes. It was a beautiful day, sunshine and wild animal tracks everywhere. I was at the end of a very bad chest infection, so it felt amazing to be outdoors in the fresh air.

We got to the area they ate lunch, I turned on the new Garrett VX9, set the frequency to 25, and got started. I literally hadn’t taken 2 steps, and on the 5th swing got a very feint signal. I kicked some of the snow away and the signal got louder. So, I probed the snow with the pinpointer, got a hit, cleared a little more snow away with my finger and a glint of shiny gold showed through! It was a very surprising and happy sight, usually searches like that take many hours! The ring had been stepped on and pushed at least 10” into the snow.

We had a nice slow walk out enjoying all the sights. I hope they have nice long and healthy lives working their new farm!

Lost Silver Ring w/ Topaz Setting Found In The Snow In Hamtramck Michigan

Grace Under Pressure….

….With getting engaged on Valentines Day, Grace was moving forward with wedding plans. But somewhere between the house and car her ring that was passed down to her came off her finger. With high sentimental value the stress began to mount when looking thru the ice and snow when she couldn’t find it. The area was in a public parking lane that had lots of tire tracks, ice and a huge snow pile over the curb. One good thing was no snowplow had come by yet. I began to detect the parking lane and was hoping that the ring was there. After a few square feet of grid searching, I got a signal on my MXT metal detector that was in the silver range. Pushing the pin pointer thru the dirty stained snow and ice chunks revealed her ring! She ran from the curb and as I placed the ring in her hand her smile would have melted a glacier!

lost ring Dexter ME found in the snow

  • from Brewer (Maine, United States)

I received a call from a fellow ringfinder in southern Maine, Dennis Boothbay, concerning a facebook post that he had read about a lost ring in Dexter, ME. He wondered if I would be interested in contacting the lady as Dexter is a lot closer to me than him. He sent me the posting and I contacted the lady. She was not aware of Ringfinders, however, was delighted that I offered to help. My wife and I were in our motorhome traveling home from a month in Florida. I told the lady, Karen, that I would be home Tuesday and would contact her to make a plan to meet. We made the plan to meet Wednesday at the first of two possible sites where she may have lost the ring.

She tells me that she was clearing the snow off her car after a work shift on Saturday and then made a second stop to clear the windshield wipers. AT the second site, she discovered that her ring was missing. Distressed at this, she made the post on Facebook.

The first site, her work place parking lot, was fairly small, probably 3 parking spaces near a corner of the building. The plowed area had a thin coating of ice and crusted snow. The snow bank [visible over her left shoulder in the photo], was small and pushed up against the corner of the building. Upon seeing this situation, i wondered if that pile was all the snow from this area, or if a lot of the snow had been draggged out and pushed elsewhere. At the start, i told Karen, that if I didn’t find the ring today, a second trip would be necessary when the temperatures were warmer and maybe the snow had melted. 16 degrees is a lot different than 80 and having just returned from Florida, I was not acclamated to the cold!

I covered the plowed areas and received lots of signals that were not in the gold ring range. I attempted to detect the banks, however, the proximity to the building presented a lot of false signals. I was to the point where i was thinking it might be time to move to the second location. I asked Karen if there was a possibility that the ring might be where my truck was parked. She thought it might be be given that she was aggressive with the brushing of the snow off her vehicle. I moved my truck out of the way and started detecting this area, which had more snow. Perhaps a vehicle had been parked there when the plowing had occured and therefore, all of the snow had not been removed. On the hard edge of the plowed snow in a clump of snow the size of a basketball, i got faint signal that was in the perfect range for gold on my detector. I stomped on the “basketball” flattening it out, and had a better signal, [still in the perfect range], in a clump now the size of a orange. I broke it open with my hand and had the ring!

My first thought was that Karen was one lucky lady. this ring had been plowed over, however, was in PERFECT condition. I turned around and asked Karen if she felt lucky today and placed the ring in her hand. The smiles that happen at this particular moment in a ring recovery are what makes this so rewarding!!

Thank you Dennis for the heads up on the Facebook post.

Gold Wedding Ring lost in the Ocean, Loveladies NJ, LBI, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

Kevin sent me an email about his lost ring in the ocean. He had been waist-deep in the water when, while catching a football, the ring popped right off. He provided all the key details—time of day, water depth, and exact location—which made it easier to plan the recovery. We agreed to attempt the search, and I headed out during the next low tide.

When I arrived, Kevin’s father met me on the beach and pointed out the spot where Kevin had been. He even reenacted the moment Kevin caught the football. Water recoveries can be slow, and after 45 minutes of going back and forth over the area, I still hadn’t found anything. But I kept at it, and eventually, I got a sweet low tone from my metal detector—a promising signal.

Digging in the crashing surf was tricky, and I missed the ring on my first two scoops. But finally, the ring was safe in my scoop. I walked slowly up to Kevin’s father, who was sitting nearby. I told him I had searched the entire area Kevin described, only getting one signal. Then, I pulled the ring from my scoop. The look on his face was priceless—pure relief and surprise.

Gold Signet Ring Lost In The Portland, Maine Snow. Found With A Metal Detector

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

On Monday evening, February 17th, 2025, I received the following voicemail transcription.

“Hey how you doing. My name is Ethan M***. I got your number off of Facebook, for the finding thing you do. I am just calling to see if I can get your help I just lost my ring in the snow and can you call me back at 910-***-****, thank you…”

I immediately called Ethan back and he explained that he was shoveling his driveway, when he slipped on a patch of ice and fell to the ground, hard. As he was falling, he could feel his ring coming off, he thinks. Everything happened so fast and he was bracing himself for impact, but he thinks he felt the ring coming off.
Thankfully, he was not injured, in the fall. Once he had composed himself he searched for his ring, in the driveway and immediate area, without any luck. The snow was deep, on each side of the driveway and mostly hard packed snow and ice, in the driveway itself. After not locating the ring, Ethan went inside and called me for help. He told me that the ring was not his wedding ring, but a very special Signet Ring, that was a gift from his wife and is extremely sentimental.
As fate would have it, I had a Physical Therapy appointment at Orthopedic Associates, in Portland, Maine at 8:30am, the next morning and it was only 10-15 minutes, from where Ethan lived, in Portland Maine . I told Ethan that I could arrive at his home at 7:00am, before he left for work and he could go over the events, just prior, to losing his Signet ring. I would be able to search for an hour, before I had to leave for my PT appointment. If I wasn’t able to cover the entire area and find the ring , prior to leaving, I would return immediately after my PT session had ended.
I arrived at Ethan’s home at 6:50am and was promptly met by Ethan. He showed me where he was, in the driveway, when he slipped and fell, on the ice. Ethan also told me that he thought the ring would have flown off directly in front or behind him, into the snow.
I decided to start out near the street, searching the driveway and snow along the driveway, including the area in front of Ethan, where he thought the ring may be. Absolutely nothing.
I then turned around and went down the other side of the driveway, searching both the driveway and snowbank, along the driveway. No Signet ring was found. Once I had ended up back at the street , I searched the snowbanks at the end of the driveway and still no ring. At this point, Ethan needed to leave for work. If I found the ring, I could give it to his wife, who was inside, getting ready for work.
After Ethan left, I kept expanding the search area. I got up in the deep snow of the lawn, in front of the house and still no signals. I then went to the other side of the driveway and searched that lawn and into a thick bush, as best I could. Still no ring. I then researched the entire area and still nothing. Thankfully it is a small area and it wasn’t taking me long to cover the areas Ethan thought the ring was in.
I then decided to search the walkway leading up to their front door. Still no ring. As I was heading back towards the driveway, I decided to search as close to the parked car as I could but couldn’t get very close to it, because all the metal kept setting my detector off. I decided to just swing the coil very slowly, and as close to the vehicle as possible. I was still getting some targets but it was always the car setting the detector off. As I tried one last time, I did get a separate signal, aside from the car. It was definitely a non ferrous target but the conductivity reading on the VDI screen was 55. A much higher reading than I would expect for gold. Gold is considered a low conductor and the reading is usually in the 03 to low 30’s. Since it was such a good sounding target and definitely non ferrous, I just had to check it out. I took my pinpointer, scraped the snow down and then I saw the outline of a Gold Ring. I had found Ethan’s Signet Ring. It had taken me approximately 50 minutes and with the temperature at -2 degrees, with the wind chill, I was ready to leave. My feet and fingers were freezing and the warmth of the car was calling me.

I knocked on the front door and Ethan’s wife answered. I showed her the Signet Ring and she was so pleased. She told me Ethan had been very distressed all night, wanting to find his gifted ring very badly. I told his wife I would send some photos of the ring to Ryan, at work, so he could stop worrying.
I sent two photos of the ring and the following message, to Ethan, at work.

“How does it feel to have your ring back”?
Ethan replied
“You are a life saver!!!!”
I told him that his wife was now in possession of his very special ring and asked if he could have a picture taken, with him holding the ring. He quickly agreed and said he would send it to me, when he returned home, this evening. It is always such a great feeling and pleasure to be able to help people like Ethan out in their time of need. I love putting another smile, in my “Book of Smiles”.

Ethan later, in the evening , sent me the following text message .
“Thank you for all of your help, definitely a weight off the shoulders”. How can I not feel good, after a text like this.

It was also a great feeling to get into a warm vehicle. I’ve had enough of the cold and snow. Bring on the spring 🌻🌸❤️

“Laurel – Rhode Island
Beth – Connecticut
Heather and Allison – KY

We are on a girls trip. Laurel and Beth have been best friends for over 50 years. Beth is Allison’s mom and Heather is her best friend for over 10 years.

23 years ago Laurel was in Greece and in the small town of OIA on the island of Santorini They found this ring. The jeweler said he only had one. They told him they would only buy it if he would make them one more and ship it. That is exactly what the jeweler did. She realized that her ring was gone Thursday night and searched the room and house to try to find it. In the morning she let the rest of us know and we did another sweep of the house and the car. Beth and Laurel went to the restaurant we had lunch at and searched. The staff was so kind and searched too. Laurel and a kind teenager went under the deck and searched for the ring. Allison went online to find the number for the restaurant we ate at the night before. Heather found the state parks Facebook page and wrote a comment asking if any found a ring. We went in our boat tour and had lunch. When we got back Heather checked her messages and Steve Thomas had sent me a message. Then the magic happened and throughout many questions, Steve Thomas found the ring!!!”

Laurel, Beth, Heather and Allison, it was a pleasure meeting you and thank you for contacting Steve Thomas, Dunedin Ring Finder to help you find Laurel’s precious ring! And thank you for the generous reward for grandsons Tillman and Anson’s college funds!

I received a call about a lost white gold man wedding ring. It recently snowed and after shoveling his driveway he brushed off his toddler that was playing in the snow and there went his ring slipping off into the snow somewhere. He searched and searched for a while with no luck. I was able to respond the same day to complete a search. After searching for a few, there was the ring hidden in the snow. He was very happy to have the ring returned to him.

Lost Keys in the Snow Found in Pontiac Michigan

  • from Detroit (Michigan, United States)

The Keys To Freedom…

…..Come in many ways. For Ray, like most of us, his set of keys was his freedom, but when he lost them in the snow the freedom those keys provided was lost. He faced being locked out of the house and a possible towing charge plus key replacement fee, and the hassle of it all. Using my MXT metal detector I scanned thru the piles of snow he shoveled. A solid signal came thru on the detector and down deep in a snow pile his keys appeared! Now free from the boundaries of the loss Ray can continue to enjoy his freedom!

Lost – Lady’s diamond wedding ring, Palm Coast, Fl – Found with a metal detector!

  • from Sanford (Florida, United States)

Brittany and her husband were visiting the Palm Coast area on Valentines Day and while driving along on highway A1A the unexpected happened. As we are all aware of how emotions and feelings can lead us to do and say things that we later regret…that is exactly what happened on this particular day. It was towards evening and thankfully they were not traveling at a high rate of speed when Brittany threw her diamond wedding ring out of the car window and into a grass area along side of the road. Her husband immediately pulled off of the road and into the nearest driveway and the two of them tried to find her ring…but her thrown ring was no where to be found!

Later that night Brittany tried to find help and went online to search for something or someone that could help her in her time of need. It was around 10:30 pm that I recieved her call asking if I could help her and after hearing her story my wife and I decided to make the one hour drive to Palm Coast and meet Brittany and we prayed to God we would be the exact help that she so desperately needed.

Brittany showed us where she « thought » the ring was thrown and I set up some cones and began doing an overlapping grid search of the 500 square foot area. Both Brittany and my wife were using very strong flashlights but the night dew was making everything wet and the grass and leaves glistened and sparkled making it almost impossible to find her lost ring. Along most any road there is allot of buried trash items giving signals that sound very similar to what a gold diamond ring would sound like so I had to investigate each shallow signal just to be sure. After 45 minutes I got a really strong signal that registered shallow and my head light exposed her beautiful lost diamond ring just laying there among the wet leaves and grass! Brittany was ecstatic and so relieved to have her ring back again! A lesson well learned, hey?

How we thank God for allowing us to be a blessing and encouragement to Brittany and her husband and we look forward to helping others who find themselves in need or our help and expertise!
