I got a call from a mom whose son’s girlfriend had lost a silver ring. Although she knew it was in the side yard, she really didn’t have much more location info than that. The search took maybe 30 min (silver is usually very easy to find). Anyway, happy Mom and happy girlfriend! Another Happy Ending!

John was from out of state, working to restore services to the Lake Charles area after the destruction of hurricane Laura. He was sweeping dried mud out of his truck seat when his white gold wedding band flew off his finger. He heard it hit some hurricane debris and before heading to parts unknown in the road ditch. He and a couple of fellow workers moved some of the trash and hand searched the area, No luck. He called Carrie and I the next day for help. Within 2 hours we were on site hunting. Since John had left his own metal detector back home, I lent him mine. After hunting for a few minutes he needed to head back to work and I started hunting. Within an hour, Carrie got a good signal in a thick clump of grass. Neither of us could see the source , so I had to cut and pull some blades of grass from the clump. We both got a visual at the same time. We messaged a picture of the ring to John and soon saw him drive up. Two people had checked that same clump the day before and had not seen the ring. Lots of smiles followed.

Ashley and her fiance were enjoying a beautiful New Years day at the Meads Botanical Garden in Winter Park, Florida sitting on a concrete wall along a very picturesque stream. The sun filtered through the Cyprus trees and the breeze was cool and refreshing. The day and the setting were perfect for what Ashley’s fiance had in mind. After dating for nearly 9 years he thought it was about time he asked the « Big Question » and he had it all planned out. And while sitting on the wall along the edge of the stream with their feet hanging over the water, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the small box which contained a very special engagement ring. As he opened the box he was looking into Ashley’s eyes, hoping to catch her by surprise and all of a sudden he felt something bounce off of his leg and then he heard something fall into the water. Was it an acorn or something from above he thought? One look at the little box he was holding up to Ashley told him the horrible truth! Her engagement ring was not in it’s place and had somehow popped out when he opened it up. They were both dumbfounded and could not believe what had just happened and they desperately tried to figure out what to do next. Should they wade into the cold flowing stream and try to find it? Ashley was devastated and the thought occurred to her to call her father, Mr David, and ask him for advise. And wisely he told them not to try looking for it on their own for fear of pushing the ring further down into the sand and silt. Mr David promptly went on line to look for help and typed « How to find jewelry underwater » and that led him to theringfinders.com web site. He had his dear wife Mrs Debbie give me a call and we made plans to meet up the next morning at the Mead Garden entrance.
When planning for such a search I try and imagine what all I will need, weather it may be a wading search where I use a water proof metal detector and a long handled scoop along with a floating sifter or maybe I need to bring all my scuba gear including a mask and tank and a hose with weight belt and weights, etc. Sometimes a metal detector works well and other times I can only use a water proof pin pointer because of the underwater conditions like debris and thick aquatic vegetation.
The following morning we made our way down to the small stream and I was able to measure the depth and determine that I would need to suit up and set up my tank and hose. I was able to mark the wall to get an idea where to begin looking but I was not prepared for how cold the water turned out to be. Having lived in Florida for the past 30 years my blood has thinned out and this ol body likes to be warm. As I sunk down to the bottom and made my way along the wall I could not believe all the sticks and debris that had gathered in the exact area where I needed to search. I tried using my hand held Pulse Dive, 6 inch pin pointer but had trouble getting in and around all the sticks and branches. So I surfaced and changed to my Garrett Pro Pointer AT, which most detectorists refer to as the « Garrett Carrot » and that proved to be exactly what I needed. On each signal I would grab a handful of leaves and sand and debris and sift through it till I was left with the target. I found a few junk items and after 15 minutes of this grab and sift I grabbed my last handful and was a bit confused to see a small piece of white plastic sticking out between my fingers. As I shook away the silt I caught a glimpse of something round and shiney and low and behold there was Ashley’s brand new engagement ring with the little white tag still on it. You should have heard them all holler and yell when I came up out of the water holding that little beauty!

I received a call from a young lady named Shayna who learned about THE RING FINDERS and my services from another couple that needed help and found success in recovering their ring through my metal detecting efforts.
Shayna explained to me that her husband Kyle lost his wedding band a day earlier. He was outside on his first floor apartment complex balcony cleaning off cigarette ashes that had blown onto their property from the apartment above. The ashes went all over the couple’s son’s toys. Being a responsible tenant , Kyle cleaned up the mess and walked outside to discard all of the ashes. As Kyle flung the pile, his 14 karat white gold wedding band flew off his finger and landed somewhere in the very thick and dense bushes.
The frustrated fellow spent hours trying to find his lost keepsake. Eventually his efforts spilled over into the next day and he still couldn’t find the ring anywhere. Unfortunately, the bushes were so intensely dense and tight with a strong root system that no attempt to retrieve his ring proved to be successful. He tried over and over again but sadly all of his hard work led to no avail. Finally, Kyle’s wife Shayna gave me a call to seek help. After gathering all of the information regarding the lost ring, I scheduled a time to come out to the property later that evening.
Kyle met me outside by the bushes and he showed me exactly what happened when his wedding band flew off his finger. He wasn’t sure exactly where it ended up in the very large amount of landscaping to cover. When I thought that the bushes were going to be somewhat thick and tight, I had no idea how different these bushes turned out to be. They looked like some type of offshoot of a Juniper ground cover shrub. It was seriously going to be a difficult recovery operation! I could literally bounce on top of these plants like being on a trampoline and they barely moved! That’s how bad it was! Throughout my entire search I would have to walk over the top of the bushes and metal detect every square inch of the wild jungle-of-a-mess! Not only was the root system so very out of control, but the branches of the shrubs were so very tight, strong and majorly condensed.
Kyle returned to his apartment as I gathered up all of my equipment including my metal detectors, pinpointer, boots and gloves. It was a cold night outside but I was up for the challenge of solving the mystery as to where the ring finally ended up. I completely understood why Kyle never found the ring because you could not see a thing looking into those shrubs.
The Horrible Thick Roots and Branches Made the Search Extremely Difficult!
I first started to metal detect over the top of the plants to see if maybe the ring had ended up in the middle of the bushes rather than dropping to the bottom. I picked up all kinds of signals but there was no ring to be found. I did discovered tons of trash all over that area of landscaping!
Eventually, once I pulled most of the trash out of the bushes, I changed the sensitivity on my detector and began to hover over the bushes that were about 18 inches to 2 feet high in some places. Not even a small 6 inch metal detector coil (the disc at the bottom of the metal detector) could fit in between the roots of these tough plants! I had to carefully listen to every faint signal and evaluate whether or not that particular target signal could be legitimate to check out. Each time I came across a target that was in the range of Kyle’s ring, I carefully put my pinpointer down into the bushes and searched the area below. Most of the time, I would be picking up multiple pieces of trash that were in the same area as the signal that I was searching for. It wasn’t easy and after a while it was no longer fun trying to find this little guy!
The Missing Ring Resting in the Middle of the « Jungle »!
Approximately 45 minutes into my search, I picked up another faint signal that was definitely in the range of Kyle’s wedding band. Because I have so much experience with various types of ring searches, I knew the number range that I was looking for on my detector screen. This one matched up quite well but until I got myself down into the bushes once again, I would not know what I was dealing with. I jumped back on top of the bushes and placed my pinpointer way down below. Sure enough, as I isolated that particular piece of metal with my orange handheld detector, I saw Kyle’s missing white gold ring resting beside an old beer bottle! I finally found the distraught young man’s beloved wedding band! I couldn’t be happier to wrap up that particular search!
There was no way in the world that Kyle would have ever found his ring because there was no ability to detect this piece of metal with one’s own eyes in that horrible jungle below! The young man needed the technology and skills that THE RING FINDERS provide people like Kyle and Shayna!
I was beyond thrilled to surprise the couple with the good news! Believe me, they were definitely surprised in the way I revealed the ring to them! Presenting the handsome keepsake back to its owner was a wonderful experience indeed! Seeing Kyle’s and Shayna’s sweet smiles shining so bright were worth all of my hard efforts in recovering the wedding band!

As a ring finder, I consider myself not only a metal detectorist, but also a « metal detective ». Many of the people that contact me are ones that need help solving the mystery as to what happened to their ring. They are not sure if the ring ended up in the grass, leaves, sand, water, or even snow. Yet, they sometimes don’t think outside the box by including the possibility that the ring never made it into nature’s elements all along. I searched houses and vehicles all the time and this story is an example of exactly that situation.
Kat was running late to get to her Washington DC gym for her regular workout class. She took her engagement ring off, placed it in a side pocket in her gym bag, threw some other things inside, placed the bag on the back of her bike and hurried to make her appointment.
When Kat arrived back home later that evening, she dropped her things at the door and forgot about retrieving her ring until sometime the following day or so. When she finally returned to the gym bag to recover the ring, Kat was shocked to find out that it was no longer inside. She started to panic and looked everywhere in the house as well as in her vehicle. She retraced her steps and started searching along the streets that she traveled on her way to the gym, looked everywhere at the workout center and still nothing turned up.
Eventually the distraught young lady filed a police report because she didn’t know if somebody may have stolen the ring while she was working out at the gym. The bag was left unlocked along with all the rest of the other gym members’ belongings. Kat called local pawn shops and checked eBay to see if somebody was already trying to sell her ring online. In addition to that, the young lady even printed « LOST » signs, hoping that if somebody did find it on the street, maybe that person would be honest enough to turn the cherished item in and receive a reward for their high ethical practices. Unfortunately, the phone never rang and no text was received about her beloved keepsake.
This ring meant the world to Kat in various ways. The large diamond was a family heirloom that was previously owned by Kat’s mother in law who had sadly passed away shortly before the ring went missing. Her fiancé Peter (now husband) custom designed the band specifically for Kat. There could never be a replacement of something so special and sentimental as this engagement ring. The two of them were devastated when nothing turned up.
Finally, when all of Kat’s other efforts failed to recover the ring, she thought that if it had fallen out of her bag while biking her way to the gym, perhaps it was still somewhere on the street, near the curb or even the sidewalk. Using a metal detector, she thought, might be a helpful tool in finding her lost family heirloom. The moment that she started Googling her particular need online, The Ring Finder’s website popped up. Kat found my profile page and promptly contacted me.
I love trying to solve mysteries for other people because I know how much these items mean to people. They are not simply material objects. These are stories that represent love, family and commitment. I kept Kat on the phone for over an hour and a half, asking her every question imaginable. I wanted to get an accurate picture of what took place and what were all of the possibilities that we were dealing with as to what could have happened to her precious keepsake.
When I am working with people that are not sure what happened to their item, it is so important that I look at all of the possibilities of the situation as if it’s a crime scene. Then, I come to the most likely conclusion based on my years of experience and I start the search at that point. Wisdom comes from the Lord according to the Bible, and so I heavily rely on my faith in God to help guide me along the investigative trail, using wisdom which is full of logic, common sense and reflecting on past successful experiences.
Once I acquired all of the facts on the phone with Kat, we set up a time later that night for me to come out with my metal detector and immediately search along the streets leading to the gym. If we did not find the ring outside, I highly recommended that I search inside their house. I conduct in-house searches all the time and I am highly successful in recovering lost rings inside houses.
In the meantime, before my arrival, I highly recommended that my client continue to search inside her home near the front entrance. From everything that Kat told me, I told her that I thought that the ring most likely ended up falling out of her bag when she dropped it by the front door. It could have ended up rolling across the hardwood floor and was hiding behind something. I shared with Kat that shoes are generally the number one culprit where rings end up inside near the front door. Not only have I seen this happen before, but other Ring Finders that I’m associated with have shared similar stories with me, as well.
I shared with Kat that it was highly unlikely that her bag leaned over enough to spill the ring out on the street while she was biking to the gym. If that was the case, she probably would have lost something else along the way, as well. This left us with the possibility of theft or that the ring fell out of her bag when she placed it on the floor upon arriving home that particular evening from the gym.
I suggested that Kat take a a high lumen flashlight, turn off all the lights in her living room which was adjacent to the front hall next to the front door and search every crack, crevice and corner! I encouraged her to look inside anything that the ring could have fallen into (including shoes and other bags nearby). She agreed to take on this assignment during the hours before my arrival.
Well, just as I was texting my client to let her know that I was on my way to Washington DC for the evening search, Kat called me in a state of utter ecstasy to share the amazing news the she in fact recovered her missing ring! Though she had searched the first floor of her house several times during the days prior to contacting me, she listened to my advice and sure enough, she found the ring inside another item that was lying on the floor located behind a piece of furniture!
Apparently, the ring had fallen out of her gym bag, rolled along the hardwood floor behind a piece of furniture and then slipped inside another container! Using her phone’s flashlight in the dark, she was able to catch a glimpse of her precious jewel that was peeking out just enough to catch the light from her phone! Absolutely wonderful! My client was so happy and she couldn’t stop thanking me for all the help that I gave her earlier that afternoon! I was simply overjoyed for Kat that this most cherished family heirloom would remain in the family for many generations to come!
I was beyond excited for Kat and Peter! How fantastic was that moment when I heard the incredible news that the engagement ring was safe and sound in their home! And most importantly, that beautiful diamond and yellow gold band was finally back on Kat’s finger… exactly where it belonged and nowhere else!

I received a email from Linda yesterday stating that she had lost her car key fob and the attached keys the day before. In the meantime our area got hit with a nasty snow and ice storm so the snow plows were out plowing the roads , driveways and even the sidewalks. So I met up with Linda the following morning and she showed me her suspected area of the lost keys. I asked her if she had another fob for the car. She did! Not only that, she had the same exact set of keys, fob, keychain, and key ring!! So I took a few sample swings over the spare set. (It was a jumpy 11-24 on the Nox (800) After an hour of searching evey snow pile the best I could, I went back to one of the first piles and went around the other side and down the street a little bit farther (expanding my search) and got that same jumpy loud signal high up in the snow pile! I carefully chipped away the snow and ice chucks and brushed away the loose debris and out rolled the missing key fob!! Unharmed to boot!
I received a email last night around 8 pm from Teresa asking if I was able to search for her husband Jake’s wedding band that he lost while he was throwing salt down in their driveway. I contacted her the next morning as soon as I seen the email. I assured her that it shouldn’t be a problem and that I was willing to come take a look for it. So immediately packed up my gear and made the 30 minute drive over to their house. After a quick introduction and explanation of the prior days shoveling and salting, (which is how we believe the ring came off), while throwing the salt. So I grabbed my detector (Equinox 800) and pinpointer and began searching the snow piles along the edge of the driveway. I made one trip down the driveway searching along the side of the shoveled snow pile. Then I went on the opposite side of the pile, and about halfway back down the driveway, I got a repeatable 17-18 signal. After sticking the pinpointer into the snow I could tell that there was something in the snow pile. After moving a handful of snow I seen the glimmer of gold!!
Took about 10 minutes or less!

This ring find began when I got a call from Elijah who hails from Guam and serves in the US Army on Oahu. While Elijah & his lovely wife Bianca were getting ready to snorkel they forgot they had placed their wedding rings in the flippers and as they went to put them on they spilled out into the sandy shoreline and a wave erased them from view. They initially called ring finder Don Bryant up in Kailua but he passed it to me as I live ten minutes from Waikiki. Parking was non existent near Kaimana Beach so I parked at the zoo and walked down. Elijah met me at the entrance and then we proceeded together down to the area the rings were lost. I started the grid search but the rings weren’t in that box so I shifted the search towards the Natatorium wall thinking the minor surf might have pushed the rings that direction. Indeed a few seconds later I got a nice tone on the Nox. In the first scoop up came Bianca’s white gold diamond ring. I asked her to come out into the water to get it as I had another target on the Nox. Three scoops later I had Elijah’s white gold wedding band. Thinking I was done Bianca said there was a tiny gold ring that was also lost. I swung the Nox around and indeed there was a third target. This ring was so tiny it got pushed away from my scoop about four times before I was able to retrieve it. Okay 2021 lets start the year with a trio recovery. Elijah & Bianca were obviously thrilled to get all their rings back and were so thankful it didn’t take but a few minutes. Aloha to Bianca & Elijah!
This ring hunt began when I got an email from Bart who lives in Seattle Washington and was on vacation with his lovely wife Caroline & their son. While throwing a football in waist deep water Caroline noticed her platinum & diamonds engagement & wedding bands had come off. Bart got a mask and snorkel and searched immediately around the area Caroline was in the water. Honu Lagoon is like a washing machine during high surf times and the rings were no where to be found. Caroline found the ring finders by doing a google search for « lost ring Oahu ». I called Bart and told him we could see what the surf would be like the next day at low tide to see if a hunt was feasible. The next morning Bart sent me a pic of the lagoon and said looks pretty calm this morning. I told him I would grab my gear and head down around 11AM at low tide. When I arrived Caroline & Bart drew lines in the wet sand so I could start a grid search. I entered the water and even at low tide I was getting pushed around quite a bit. I decided to hunt parallel to shore so as to follow the sand dunes underwater which I could see clearly. It wasn’t 2 minutes later I got a strong number 6/7 on the Nox and in one scoop their was Caroline’s beautiful engagement ring in my scoop. I yelled to Bart to come out into the water to retrieve it so I could stay on the spot to recover the wedding ring as I heard another target. After Bart took the ring I scooped the second target and there was the wedding ring. Mission accomplished! I was thinking this is going to be a challenge in the high surf. Let’s just call it a New Year’s Eve blessing! Caroline & Bart were so grateful and could now leave the island this evening with all their possessions. Aloha to Caroline & Bart!
