***Susie and Aiman had enjoying a day at the beach in Laguna Beach, CA. While sitting on the sand Susie dropped her two rings in the dry sand. They found one of the rings but the white gold blue sapphire with diamonds ring eluded their efforts to recover it.

They went to their hotel and the lifeguard to ask for help finding a metal detecting service. Neither of the people they talked to could help them. Aiman was getting frustrated when he thought he might google search for a metal detector specialist. He was able to get my contact information. When he called me I was returning to Newport Beach, CA. from San Diego, CA.

I was able to tell him I could be at Laguna Beach in less than an hour. After hearing how the loss occurred it was easy to assure Aiman that my equipment could find the ring. He then texted me the address and agreed to wait at the location. The traffic conditions were perfect and when I arrived there was parking available only a half block away.We met on the beach and they told me what had happened when the loss happened. I complimented them for staying at the location saying, this will  be a quick recovery. Sometimes it takes hours to get back to an area once people walk off the beach.

Setting up my metal detector took longer than the actual recovery. The beautiful blue sapphire ring showed up in my scoop after just a few short swings of the search coil. Then the smiles were on both Aiman’s and Susie’s faces. These easy searches are still just as exciting for me as tougher searches. Lost Apple Watch in Sand at Doheny State Beach ..Dana Point, CA. .. Found and Returned

*** Marisa had spent the weekend at Doheny State Beach campgrounds, Dana Point, CA. After returning to her home in San Diego, CA. she realized her Apple Watch was missing. She was sure it had to be at the beach in front of where she had camped.

Marisa thought maybe she could rent a metal detector and drive back 60 miles the next morning. During the process of searching for a metal detector, she found my contact information doing a google search.

She called me late that Sunday evening. After telling me that she had taken her Apple Watch off putting it into a small jacket pocket. She was sure it probably fell out of the pocket on the sloping sand in front of the campsite. I explained that I could drive to the location before dark and it wouldn’t be necessary for her to meet me there.

Everything went well, I got to the campsite with enough daylight to search the steep sandy slope which was about a 30ft x 40ft zone.  Fifteen minutes into the search I was able to find the watch with my metal detector.

I called Marisa to hear the joy in her voice when I told her I had her watch safe in my care. We discussed the possibility of mailing it to her. I just don’t like trusting the mail. I already had another errand to do in San Diego. So I met her the next day to personally give her the watch. No waiting to 2 or 3 days for the mail to get delivered.  Also, I was happy to get my other errand taken care of while in San Diego. Plus I know a place where I can get the best burritos in the southland. 

On my trip home I got another ring call in Laguna Beach.

Cartier Trinity Ring Found in Sand at Private Beach … Newport Beach, CA.

Mark called me after his daughter, Paige had lost her Cartier Trinity Ring in the sand at a small neighborhood beach while playing tether ball. I was able to meet them at this location in a Newport Beach gated community within 30 minutes of his call.

Paige was upset that she had lost this  ring. It was a ring she had always wanted and was recently given to her as a graduation gift. I verified that she actually felt the ring come off her finger and it wasn’t the place where she noticed it missing. She said it definitely came off in that location.

I felt confident that the ring could be found with my metal detector but when playing with a ball it could as farther away than most people realize. I started my search by circling the tether ball pole. We were lucky as the ring showed up within 10 ft. of the pole. 

We had a quick search and a happy family including Paige’s mother, father and several of her friends. Like many other times, I was told they had no idea this service existed. Hopefully they will spread their experience with their neighbors and  any social media groups they belong to. …. Ryan contacted me asking for help to find a ring that was lost in the sand at Newport Beach, CA. I was very close to the location so it was easy to meet him while he and his friend were still at the location.

When I got to the place where Ryan and his friend had set up their towels, he told me they had been tossing shells out towards the sand when his ring slipped off his finger disappearing into the sand. After two hours of searching he had lost hope of ever seeing it again.

These are the easy searches. Mainly because he felt the ring slip off and he knew the exact area of the loss. It’s just a mater of turning on the detector and swinging it over the place where the ring was hiding in the sand. Usually the ring doesn’t get deep enough that a metal detector can’t find it. It still took a few minutes to find this missing ring because it wasn’t straight ahead in the direction they had tossed the shells. The ring showed up almost 90 degrees to the right and only 8 feet from where he sat while tossing shells.

A very nice young guy and it was great to see his smile and sincere grateful attitude when I handed him his ring. Being able to help people find things that are sentimental to them, never gets old. Can’t wait for my next call.

Rene’ called me requesting help to find her friend Chris’ iPhone lost the night before in the sand at Venice Beach, CA. 

These cellphones can be hard to find at the beach as they are often picked up by people walking the beach. After hearing that the loss occurred in very soft sand and the Find My iPhone app indicated it was still at the location, I told them I would be there within an hour.

We met on the beach where I was glad to see that the beach rake had not passed over the possible area of the loss. I set up my detector beginning a search grid approximately 20ft. by 30ft around the gps app location. From my experience the Find My iPhone App can be off as much as 30 ft. This find also occurred more than 35 ft. outside the gps ping location. After about 20 minutes I got a clear #30 tid reading from my metal detector.

I used my hands feel through the sand because it’s very easy to damage a cellphone with my metal sand scoop. 

Both Rene’ and Chris were very relieved and grateful to have the phone back saving them all the trouble of having to replace the expensive item,  irreplaceable photos and information.

….. Patty called me late in the afternoon from her home in Santa Ana, California. Her daughter had lost a Tiffany ring in the backyard while throwing toys for her dogs.  After a couple hours of searching they could not locate the ring in the small grassy backyard. They were at their wits end when a neighbor suggested they contact a metal detecting service.

Patty located me through TheRingFinders directory. We discussed the circumstances of the loss, after hearing that it was a recent loss and her daughter felt the ring come off her finger, I was confident that this was going to be an easy search. These rings usually get stepped on which puts them out of site.

We had less than an hour before sunset when I arrived to meet the family. The back yard was small, maybe 20ft by 35ft of grass with a small 30” wide raised planter next to a 6ft wall. The planter only had a few large palm plants with a lot of recently tilled exposed soil. 

Several cross grids scans with my metal detector over the grass were unsuccessful. I was getting frustrated because they insisted that the ring went straight ahead into the grass. It was already dark after an hour, so as a last resort, I took my pinpointer (handheld detector) to check the planter. BOOM!! .. the ring was located with just an edge of the ring exposed. There was not any  other places to search. 

Everybody was excited essentially Patty’s daughter who had received this ring as a gift for he fifteenth birthday,  a very important day of her life.

After talking to Patty about who recommended me, we discovered that I had found a ring for neighbor last year. That ring was found at 2 am after being lost in the surf for 4 days. It is a small world that brings people’s experiences together to help others with their problems. I’m getting more input from people that are hearing about TheRingFinders directory. Lost Car Key Fobs at Aliso Beach California.. Found

***** Joshua and his wife took a short trip from their home to Aliso Beach to watch the sunset over the ocean. Aliso Beach is part of the Orange County parks system located in south Laguna Beach. They were only there for less than an hour which was long enough for his wife to lose her set of 2 car key fobs. 

They didn’t realize the keys were missing until they arrived home. Joshua returned to the beach to see if he could find them with no success.

He was able to call me asking if I was available to help. He was assuming that we could meet the next morning. After finding out that the items lost were the expensive key fobs, I told him it would be best if we could meet as soon as possible. It would be about 8pm which would give me two hours to search before the beach closes. It would not be necessary for him to stay.

Joshua and I met in the well lighted parking lot at exactly 8pm.. We walked across to the sand discussing where and what happened to cause the loss of the keys.

When we passed the trash receptacle next to a lamp post, we spotted the keys on top of the trash box.

I didn’t have to turn on my detector and it was a successful search. This is common with keys found by others at the beach here In SoCal. People find keys, etc. and put them on lifeguard towers, posts, walls, near exits of the beach. Unfortunately sometimes others take them for various reasons. 

It was a cool evening so we glad that everything went well and we were both home  within an hour of Joshua’s call..

Lost Gold Ring on a Hillside at a Newport Beach Residence .. Recovered

Jim was at a Newport Beach residence,  while in the backyard patio when he made a movement with his hand similar to throwing a frisbee. His gold ring went flying off his finger down the steep hillside into the thick landscaping.

This was the second time Jim had called me for help within a month. The first time he was able to locate a ring lost in the house after I gave him a handheld metal detector known as a pinpointer to use.

The loss occurred within a few miles of my base location, it did not take long to meet Jim. When I arrived at the location it was for this search it was a surprise to such a steep hillside with dense landscaping. It would have been easy to not even attempt to search this area. 

I often say “I Will Try Anywhere.” This time I put a small 6” search coil on my metal detector beginning a grid search through the less dense foliage. Second stage of the search would require getting down on my hands and knees to use my pinpointer in areas the 6” coil cannot reach.

The ring was found at the base of a tree before I had to resort to crawling through bushes. Jim was standing very close to me when I located the ring. He looked at me with astonishment as I showed him the ring laying in shrubs next to the tree trunk.

Knowing that the ring was definitely in the general location, staying  positive and trusting in my equipment made this search successful. There were a couple large clumps of bushes that could have been impossible to search. 

It was a pleasure to help Jim.

Lost Glasses in the Sand at Huntington State Beach .. Found at Night with a Metal Detector

Craig called me at 6:30pm asking if I was available to help his son find his prescription glasses lost in the sand at Huntington State Beach. His son, John had lost the glasses in the sand while at a beach party with friends.

I was told by John’s father that the area of the loss was quite small but after 2 hours of searching they needed help. It was dark when I arrived and we still had two hours to search before the beach closed.

The possible area of the loss was much larger after talking to John which isn’t a problem. John believed his glasses may have fallen out of his pocket earlier while he coming from the parking lot to the firepit.  He said, he had to run across the sand to chase seagulls away from their food at the firepit. That was a couple hours before he realized the glasses were missing. He had also played some sort of game with a frisbee in another location.

It took about an hour to grid those first two areas. That’s when John’s father opted to leave wanting to thank me and call off the search. I was already on the site and felt another hour of searching would not be a problem. Twenty minutes later I got a nice signal that turned out to be John’s glasses. case of searching outside the box. They were about 30 or 40ft. away from any path that John had suggested. 

It was another fun search with the bonus of seeing a big smile from John who truly appreciated the work I did for him. His dad Craig was the hero for finding me at TheRingFinders.com.

Lost Smartphone in the Ocean .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found with Metal Detector

Tetsuya and his wife Maya are Japanese tourists visiting Newport Beach, CA. While walking on a breakwater he dropped his IPhone on the large rocks and it went into the water. It was high tide at the time of the loss so he asked me if I could help him find the smartphone.

We met at low tide, where Tetsuya was able to point out the general area. Hopefully the phone wasn’t deep inside the rock structure where I couldn’t get my metal detector. There was also the possibility that the receding waves could have pulled the phone down the sloping beach further out into the ocean.

I started my search over a  small patch of exposed sand between two rocks. Right away I got a signal. It was not possible to determine whether it was large or small because I couldn’t swing my coil in the confined space.

The sand was wet and firmly packed but I didn’t want to use my sand scoop for fear of damaging the iphone. I started digging with my hand. About 4 inches deep I felt the corner of the phone. Almost three quarters of the phone was under a rock. Tetsuya was standing next to me  and was surprised when I touched the phone and it was still working after surviving two hours in the salt water.

It was a pleasure to help them find an important item that we all know would be a disaster to lose while vacationing thousands of mile from home.
