Lost Apple Watch in water, Wekiva Island, Longwood, Fl…..Found and Returned!
Chantal and her younger sister were enjoying a hot summer day by the cool dark waters of the Wekiva River. Wekiva Island is a unique place to swim and relax and spend time getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Earlier Chantal had laid out her towel at the waters edge and now as she was getting ready to gather up her belongings, she completely forgot that she had placed her Apple Watch on the edge of her towel and as she lifted her towel….the watch did a nose dive into the dark water and disappeared! Stunned she could not believe what had just happened! It was only 6 feet deep with a sort of sandy bottom mixed with leaves and other decaying debris, so how hard could it be to find it, right? For over an hour she dove and tried her very best to feel around with her feet, hoping to find her lost watch…but all to no avail!
On her phone she informed her friends of her dilemma and then someone sent her a link to theringfinders.com and told her to check it out. After a brief conversation I decided not to wait but to try and help her that very day. Upon arriving at the spot there were three young men sitting in the very location and after hearing Chantal’s story they were more than happy to move, plus they wanted to see the search and recovery themselves.
I decided to practice my diving and holding my breath skills instead of using my scuba gear, thinking that the sandy bottom and maybe four feet of visibility would be sufficient for me to recover her lost watch. Chantal had described her watch as having a metal wrist band and that is what I focused on during my search. The search area was roughly an eight foot square area and right away I could see the usual objects like pull tabs and other man made objects but no shiny metal wrist band. I dove four times thinking surely I would spot it just sitting on the bottom waiting for me to spot and pick up. And then I realized Chantal had been feeling around with her feet and maybe she had pushed it out into deeper water or possibly covered it over with silt and sand and that’s when I spotted something square looking and as I lifted it off the bottom I realized the « mesh » metal band had folded under the face of the watch and it was quite hidden. Chantal was thrilled to have her watch back and I was relieved to not be holding my breath any longer! And Chantal’s beautiful smile warmed my heart and I was truly thankful to have been a part of making her day a pleasant one!

When Matt called me I could tell by his voice he was a bit concerned about a special ring he had lost earlier that day! Here is the story in Matts own words. « Mike with The Ring Finders saved my vacation! While playing volleyball with my wife and two young sons, my college ring slipped off my finger and fell into the sand of the volleyball court. My heart immediately sank. As a proud graduate of Texas A&M University, our Aggie rings are sacred and my first thought was that I would never see my ring again. Miguel was enjoying a warm spring day on his family’s dock with some friends and as they were getting ready to head up to the house, he asked one of his friends to toss him his shirt. Earlier, Miguel had laid his shirt across the back of a lawn chair and also had removed his gold chain and cross and placed it on top of his shirt. (This chain was very special to him as it was a gift from his mom 12 years ago and he has worn it ever since!) As his friend grabbed the shirt the chain slipped off and fell directly thru a crack between the deck boards of the dock. Miguel did not actually see the chain fall but he was able to hear the sound of his chain and cross as it fell into the dark waters below the dock. Stunned, he could not believe what had just happened! He mustered the courage to get into the cold water and made his way under the dock. There were lots of underwater plants growing up from the muddy bottom making it very difficult for Miguel as he tried to feel with his hands and his feet. Numerous shells, sticks and leaves mixed into the silty bottom was a very discouraging place to have lost his precious chain and cross. He searched for a while and soon realized the futility plus he was getting very chilled so he climbed out and tried to think of what to do next. This led him to do a search online for « How to find a gold chain underwater » and thankfully « theringfinders.com » website came up. He clicked on one of my recovery stories and decided to give me a call.
Larry called me from their vacation apartment down by the Disney area and asked if I could help him and his wife, Danielle, find her lost diamond engagement ring. Apparently they were out late the night before and while walking back to their room, Danielle had taken all her jewelry off and handed everything to Larry. After entering the apartment Larry put all the jewelry on the dining table and they then retired for the night. The next morning they got up later than normal and eventually Danielle went to collect her jewelry and to her horror, she could not find her diamond engagement ring! They immediately retraced their steps from the previous night and by this time it was around 12:00 noon. They looked for a couple of hours and that is what led them to contact me, thru theringfinders. 
Ron was just finishing up eating his sandwich when he bit into a piece of gristle. As he turned to throw it out across the back of his truck and into the bushes he felt his ring go flying off along with the piece of gristle. He even heard his ring ping off the edge of the truck bed but he was not able to actually see which direction it went. Ron figured the ring must have gone quite a distance because of the force he used when he threw the small piece of gristle. When I arrived I asked Ron to show me where the « fling of the ring » took place and from there I was able to get a good idea as to what sort of search I was in for. Looking for a lost article, and especially a lost ring, gets me excited and is a real challenge that I thoroughly enjoy. And I could tell that Ron was very anxious for me to find his lost ring so I set about searching out into the neighbors yard and worked my way towards where the truck had been parked. There were various types of shrubs and ornamental bushes and a low thick form of ground cover. A perfect place for a ring to hide. About 20 minutes into the search I got a smooth steady tone that pinpointed easily with a depth of two inches in the ivy ground cover. Ron’s lost ring was found and it was a beauty! Thanks Ron for calling me and allowing me to be the one to locate your lost ring. A visit to the jeweler will help keep that ring on your finger my friend!
Dr. Greg emailed me on Saturday afternoon to see if I was available to help him find his lost wedding ring in his back yard. So we made arrangements to meet the next day to conduct a thorough search. Upon arriving I was told that the family had searched for three days with a low end metal detector. Gregg and his wife have been married for 25 years and a couple of their children were letting me know that I really needed to find their father’s lost ring, so that they, (the parents) could continue to be married again. Cute, hey? Apparently one of the boys had gotten a small drone stuck in one of the large oak trees and Greg was using a soccer ball to try and knock the drone free of the branches. He was throwing the ball straight up with force, using a two handed under throw and after a couple of throws he suddenly felt his ring go flying. Thankfully I had a test ring with a small piece of brightly colored ribbon attached to it and I asked Greg to do a couple of test throws. This gave us a good indication of the direction I needed to begin my search. It wasn’t long until I got a great shallow signal in the thick grass and sure enough there was Greg’s lost wedding ring. (I was using my Whites DFX metal detector in the Prospecting Mode, as there was allot of electrical interference and the usual Coin and Jewelry Mode was way to noisy.) It was a real pleasure to help Greg and his family and I hope he is able to get the ring resized so as not to loose it again!
