Vip and Krishna are from the San Francisco Bay Area. They are visiting Laguna Beach on their vacation. While having lunch at the Cliff Restaurant, Vip’s Zirconium/ Rose Gold w/ black diamonds wedding band slipped off his finger falling into some dense Bougainvillea shrubbery. ( this plant has vicious thorns )

The staff at the restaurant helped him look for it and somebody suggested that he try to get a metal detector. Vip google searched metal detector and my name came up in TheRingFinders website. After calling me, I met them about 45 minutes after they called. The restaurant had one of the waitresses escort me to the lower deck where I could get behind the thick growth. I was hoping that the ring did not hang up in the dense upper growth. At ground level I couldn’t use my normal detector, even with a small sniper coil. Lots of obstacles and small metal trash.

I proceeded using a Garrett handheld pinpointer. After pulling out salt shaker tops, forks, bottle caps, etc., I reached under the Bougainvillea plants to pull out the dead leaves so I can scan them with the small pinpointer detector. While moving these dead leaves, I pulled the ring into an area that the waitress saw it as I began to detect the leaves.

There it is yelled the waitress! Many times one of the people helping finds the item while I’m searching. It doesn’t matter who finds it. It was just nice to see the smiles on Vip and Krishna’s faces, this is their first year of marriage and this ring very important to both them. Also losing a ring on vacation doesn’t make a good memory. Now they have a great story to add to this vacation.

It was a very ugly area to loose a ring you can see the area of the loss in the background of the photo. I was having second thoughts about how much time it would take to find this ring. Nevertheless it all worked out well with a successful find and smiles all around.

Lost Platinum Diamond Wedding Rings .. Doheny State Beach, CA. .. Found in the Sand

Albert and Martha had a nice day with their kids at Doheny State Beach until they returned to their car. That was when Martha remembered earlier in the day,  she had taken off her platinum and diamond wedding rings off to put on sunscreen. Getting distracted taking care of two youngsters she forgot to put the rings in a safer place. They were sure the rings were in the sand near where they had been sitting.

Albert went to his cell phone, Google searching  » How to find a ring in the sand. » That was how he found my information on TheRingFinders website. After his call to me, I assured him that I could find the rings if they could stay at the location.
We met on the beach a half hour later. Then it was a few minutes of swinging my metal detector in a 10’x 10′ area till the two beautiful platinum rings were found.

I wish all searches were this easy. Martha felt embarrassed that she was so careless, so I told her how many times people don’t realize they lose something till they get home. The success of this search was because Martha realized she lost the rings before too much time had passed and her husband used his smartphone to find a ringfinder.

Needless to say they were very happy to have the rings back where they belong. It was a pleasure to help them.

Truck Key Lost in Church School Playground in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA…Found and Returned.

I received a call from the pastor of a local church who explained that one of the staff of the attached school had lost her truck key while installing some new equipment in the school’s play area. The key had been lost for a couple of days, and the pastor and staff were in a meeting when the lost key was brought up. He mentioned the possibility of renting a metal detector to use in conducting the search. That is when Heather, a lady that we knew a few years back when our son’s played football together remembered I had told her about my metal detecting service. She found my number and gave it to the pastor. I was only about 25 minutes away, and agreed to come immediately to do the search.

When I got to the church, I met with Heather who brought me to the playground to show me what had happened. She explained how they had gotten sifters together, and planted toy dinosaurs and toy jewels in the sand to make a game out of finding things in the sand for the children, hoping that one of the children would dig up the key in the process, no luck. I started my search, and was getting too much interference from the screws holding the 2×4’s of the equipment together. We were able to move the pieces out of the way, which enabled me to conduct a thorough search of the area. It was then I received the tone I was listening for, and told Heather so. I took my sand scoop and had to scoop a couple of times, and then there it was. We brought it into Maureen who had lost the key. Needless to say Maureen was very happy to have her key.

Platinum Wedding Ring Lost Six Days in Surf .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Recovered

Damian was visiting Newport Beach on a family vacation. While he was playing in the surf with his daughter at a small beach named Little Corona Delmar his platinum wedding band came off into waist deep water.

Diving in the surf zone is never a good idea but Damian tried unsuccessfully to locate the ring. Six days later he was back home in Missouri telling a co-worker about losing his ring. The person told Damian about TheRingFinders.

Damian contacted me at 10am in the morning. I was able to see that the next best low tide was at 12:30am. I tried not to raise his hopes, because our beaches vary so much and it had been six days. I compare it to the lottery with better odds. « You Can’t Find It, If You Don’t Try »

Little Corona DelMar is less than three miles from my place. I walked down to the beach at midnight and Damian’s Platinum ring of 18 years was in my scoop within a half hour. It was probably 8 inches deep and did not give me a strong with my Minelab Excalibur 2 metal detector.

We talked on the phone the next morning. It was a great conversation with Damian who was very excited saying over and over he couldn’t believe it. Three days in later he received the ring by mail.
I will try anywhere, this is one of the reasons I rarely say it’s not worth searching.

I had just finished another search across town when Austin’s sister called me to ask if I was available. She had found me on line while her brother was searching the sand at Riviera Beach in San Clemente, CA.
He is visiting his family here and they spent the day at this local beach. He had put his tungsten wedding band in his shirt pocket leaving it on the sand when he went swimming. While he was swimming, his brother moved the shirt and the ring fell from the pocket into the sand.

They were not upset at the loss because it should have been easy to find it. Wrong!
After more than two hours Austin was losing confidence that he could find it. His sister told him I was available and let him call me for help.

I told Austin that my metal detector could easily find his ring if he marks the location so we could get close to the area of the loss.

We met on the beach an hour later and it only took a short time till we had his ring in the scoop. I have been using my XP Deus metal detector on these dry sand searches because it’s very fast and efficient. Austin was very happy and impressed with how well the metal detector worked to find the ring he had felt would be easy to find by hand searching.

Lost Key Fob in Sand .. Huntington Beach, CA. .. Found

During the month of August thay have a country music festival on the sand at Huntington State Beach. That night during the event, Daniel lost his car key fob in the sand. He returned the next morning driving more than 50 miles in hope of finding his keys.

After attaining permission from the supervisor dismantling the structures Daniel began to shuffle though the sand hoping to see his key fob. The supervisor saw how frustrated Daniel was and gave Daniel my information. I was able to meet Daniel soon after he called me as it was only a 6 mile drive.

The tractors and forklifts were courteous enough to give us space to work. After digging a couple dozen aluminum beer cans the keys showed up in my scoop. It did take about an hour because Daniel was a little confused about where he was the night before.

Daniel and his friend thanked me and told me they were beginning to feel that their long drive was going to be a waste of time. It was a good search. I always find the item I’m looking for in the last place I look.😎

Class Ring Lost in Ocean .. Corona Delmar, CA. .. Recovered Next Day

Justine had been swimming at Corona Delmar State Beach when she realized her necklace had broken and a class ring was missing. She told me that it happened in chest deep water. I explained to her it would be difficult to search in the surf at this time but we could meet to pinpoint the location. It happened at about a 4.0 high tide.

It is a short drive to the beach, so we discussed my plans to return the next morning at a 6am low tide. Justine did not look happy when I told her I could not attempt a search with these surf and tide conditions. Also, I tried to be honest with her that we could give it a try. This is not a lake, many conditions effect a successful search. We can’t find it if we don’t try. We have the correct search area which helps quite a bit.

I returned the next morning a .2 ft low tide. Working a grid out to waist deep water with a small but surging surf. I got a good signal on my Minelab Excalibur metal detector. It gets crazy trying to retrieve a target in 4 ft. of surging surf and it took several attempts to get the ring but it was finally in the scoop.

I took a couple photos of the ring and sent them to Justine in a text message. She called right away and we agreed that I could mail her the ring as she lived near Palm Springs which is over 100 miles away. It was a fun search and even though I couldn’t give the ring directly to Justine, I could hear the gratitude in her voice over the phone. She also agreed to send me a photo of her smiling and holding the ring. Of all types of ring searches I have done these rings lost in the surf are the most exciting. The sand is always moving and some beaches are worse than others.

Antique Diamond and Platinum Wedding Ring Lost at Newport Beach, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

Monday afternoon I received an email from Veronica heartbroken that she had lost her wedding ring at the beach. She explained how she had been in the water when a wave crashed into her, and as she tried to maintain balance, her ring flew off of her finger. This is a ring she saved up for, and it is also over 100 years old, so there was a great personal significance in this loss for her. I got the area from her. She told me that the ring was lost at high tide, so I figured the best approach would be to go at low tide, which was at 10:30 PM. I let her know I would go at about 7:00 PM to begin my search, and stay until after the low tide to insure I covered the whole area, and that I would report back to her no matter what the outcome.

I got to the area, and began my search. I put on chest waders to insure I could get out in the water for a complete search. The sand was soft and would have swallowed up her ring in an instant. I was a bit worried because I was only finding a few light objects, can slaw, pull tabs, and a couple pieces of wire. I made a grid to the North, because that is the way the current was moving parallel to the beach. I worked out about 70 to 80 feet with no luck, I then decided to work my grid South while the tide was still going out. I continued my grid, 1 pass, 2, 3, and then on the 4th pass received a good signal, dug, dumped my sand, turned my headlamp on, and there could see the curved shiny shape of a ring; 10:00 PM. I reached down, and brought up this beautiful diamond ring.

I emailed Veronica right then to let her know that I had found her ring, but she didn’t get the message until the next morning. She replied with great excitement, so I asked when we could meet for the return. She told me she was very busy for the next couple of days, and wasn’t sure when she would be able to break free for the return. I knew she really wanted her ring back, so I asked if I could drive out to the dentist where she was taking her children for their cleaning. She agreed to do it that way, and we met at the dentist building. She was so excited to have her ring back, I got a couple of great hugs, and got to see a wonderful smile appear where I know 2 days before there was none. What a day!

John Hardy Silver Necklace Lost at Manhattan Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I had been busy Sunday night, and my phone was away from me for a few hours on charge. When I went to get the phone about 10:45, I found I had received an email from David 2 hours earlier about having lost his necklace earlier in the day at the beach. He had placed it in his duffle bag in order to keep it safe while enjoying his day. He then packed up and went home, and that is when he found that his necklace was gone. He then drove back to the beach to look for it and to ask the Life Guard, or the Police if anyone had turned it in, but it was to late in the day as everyone had left. He went back to where they had spent the day, and dug through the sand to try and locate his necklace, but to no avail. I answered his email, letting him know that I would go immediately to do a search if he would let me know exactly where it was lost, because this beach is cleaned very early in the morning by the county. He emailed me the area, and then I asked for him to call me, so I could ask some questions in order to narrow down the search area. Once we finished our conversation, I was on my way, it almost 12:00 AM.

I got to the spot, and made my way down. When I started walking out on the sand, I could not believe it, the sand was smoothed out, the county had already been through. I kept walking out, and found that the county had not cleaned the area where the necklace was lost; relief! David told me the necklace had been made to have an aged look, so I would easily recognize it if found. I got to work and withing 4 passes, I got a signal and dug. When I began to pull the scoop out I saw the  necklace hanging out of the scoop. I pulled it up, and turned on my headlight, and was able to identify it as the necklace David described. I sent him an email letting him know of my success at about 1:00 AM, and he sent me one back about 6:15 AM of excitement. We arranged to meet the next day, and I was able to give him back something he thought was lost forever. He told me that this was a gift from his little sister, so it had a special significance for him. I was happy to make his day.

Wedding Ring Lost in Sand .. Califia State Beach, San Clemente, CA. .. Recovered

Andrew was at Califia State Beach with his wife Allyson. He put his tungsten carbide wedding ring on his sunglass neck strap and hung them on beach umbrella for safekeeping while he went swimming. When he finished swimming, he grabbed his sunglasses and the ring went flying into the dry sand.

Totally frustrated after they searched unsuccessfully for over an hour, Allyson got out her smart phone and found my contact information on a google search for « How to find a ring in the sand. » I talked to Andrew, assuring him I could find his ring if he was able to stay at the location. I could be there in a half hour.

We met at the parking lot and walked a couple blocks to their place on the beach. It wasn’t long till I got a good signal. I gave Andrew the pleasure of digging his wedding ring. I did tell him not to drag his fingers though the sand, just use your fingers like you’re grabbing popcorn. (It’s my clam shell technique).

They were a beautiful couple and had been married three years. I could tell how much finding this symbol of their love was to both Andrew and Allyson by the joy they expressed when we found the ring.
