Eric called today about his wedding band he had lost in his backyard over the Memorial weekend, during a grilling session. He went to wipe his hands off in the grass, when while swiping them his ring went flying. He and his family searched for a couple of hours without any luck. After a few questions, I agreed to do the search. He was going to be at work, so we arranged to have me meet with his wife Anna at the house later in the day.

When I arrived, Anna met me at the backyard gate, and took me back to the site of the loss. She showed me approximately what happened. From what it looked like, the ring should not have gone far, but having done these searches over the years, I have found that these rings sometimes go in the least expected of places. I searched the area where I expected the ring would have gone first, no luck. I then began a search over all the rest of the yard, and on the last pass, all the way on the other side of the yard, further back than it should have been, I found Eric’s ring. Rings are kind of like weird people; they just do their own thing. It was a pure pleasure to be able to hand Anna her husband’s ring, that they thought was lost for good. Truly a great day!

I had been doing yard work the previous day and within minutes of it falling off my finger (still don’t know how it happened), I realized my finger was bare. Jonny’s friend called me today to see if I was available to come and look for Jonny’s lost wedding ring. They had been at the beach playing catch with a Frisby when as he was going for a catch he felt his ring come off of his hand, watched it fly past his face, he even heard it hit the sand, and it was gone in an instant. He and his friends searched all over the sand with no luck. They found me on the Internet, and called. I asked a few questions, and from everything they told me, it sounded like we would have a successful recovery today. I let them know I would be there as soon as possible, and was on my way.

When I got to the beach, I walked out looking for Jonny. As I got to the slope down to the water I noticed a guy looking around in the sand, and figured he was the gentleman I was looking for. Jonny looked up and came right over. He then explained what had happened, and showed me the Frisby they placed in the area they believed the ring to be. I began my search to the South of the Frisby working North in the direction Jonny had been moving when the ring was lost. I searched out to about 30 feet with no ring. Then went back to the starting position, and began to work to the South of the Frisby. After about 2 passes I got a good strong signal, and there I could see just a slight gimmer shinning through the sand. I reached down, and to Jonny’s disbelief Held up his wedding ring. He had not been married a year yet, so this loss was very sentimental, as he had not had the ring very long. Needless to say he was very happy, and I was happy to have had the pleasure to make his day!

I asked him what the probability of him finding the ring was, he simply said, “if it is in this area, and you didn’t move from this area, I will 100 percent find it.” About 10 minutes into the search, Steve found my wedding ring, he bent down and picked up and I thought, no way, no way, I cannot believe he found my ring. I asked him what I owed him, he said, “if you want to give me a reward, you can.” I gave him a big hug, shook his hand, thanked him a hundred times, and give him all the money I had in my wallet, $37.” I just want to personally thank Steve at Ring Finders, and let people out there know, that Steve is the real-deal, and if you lost a wedding ring, or any other prized possession, Steve will find it. 2 1/2 Karat Diamond Lost in Grass in Pacific Palisades, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

Cinda called me today in the afternoon. She had been helping with a fundraising fair that was being put on by her children’s school. She had been in charge of the decorations, and like most people who volunteer, working hard to make the day a success. During the time she had been putting up some of the decorations she noticed to her disbelief that the center stone in her engagement ring was gone; a diamond at about 2 1/2 karats. The only thing that was in her favor was the fact that it was in a metal setting, even though it was no more than a stud earring, which are so very hard for a detector to find, because there is such a small amount of metal attached to it. She and her friends scoured the field where she had been working, and the areas she had concentrated on, but to no avail. She wanted to wait until the fair was over to begin the search, and I agreed to meet her then for the search.

When I got to the field, Cinda’s husband Mark met me, and took me up to meet Cinda. She showed me the field, and my heart dropped, it was huge, and the grass was pretty thick. Also I knew that I was going to have to check every signal which would slow me down considerably. I then began an inquiry to narrow down the search area if it was possible. Cinda believed that the best possible spot to begin the search was an area about 10×10 feet based on her friends best recollections regarding when they saw the stone in her ring, so I began there. I was getting signals, but they were all too deep to be her diamond. During my second pass, and after about 12 signals checked, I got another soft signal, and put the pin pointer in to check when it sounded off, and I could see the glimmer of the stone. I reached in, picked it up, and then looked for Cinda. She was working with people during the take down of the fair, so I began walking over. She had her back to me, but some of the ladies there realized I was going to her, and figured I might have found it. I showed them the stone, and then there was instant joyous chaos, everybody shouting, running around that the diamond was found. When Cinda realized what was going on she turned and came right over, and I put the jewel in her hand. She got very emotional, she had had that ring for 26 years, and it had great sentimental value to her. All I can say is, WHAT A BLAST! I was so happy help her out today.

I was contacted last night by Linda. She had been at the beach with her 2 children enjoying the day. When they were ready to leave she realized her keys were gone, and she had to drive back to Phoenix, AZ. After looking unsuccessfully for her keys, she was able to find and contact me. I could tell she was very distraught at the thought she would be stranded in a strange place with her children, and told her I would be on my way immediately.

When I got to the beach it was already about 8:00 PM, but that does not make a difference, as I can search in the dark as well as the day. Linda led me out to the area where she and her children were playing. I asked a series of questions in order to narrow down the search area, and then began my grid. I was finding a lot of metal, bottlecaps, tin foil, etc. After about 7 passes, a really strong signal reverberated in my headphones. I dug, and could see something different in the scoop. I reached in and there were Linda’s keys. I held them up with my headlight shining on them, and she came running over with an overwhelming show of emotion and gratefulness. She went from despair to joy in an instant. What a blast to see this transformation occur!

Custom Black Belt Shaped Ring Lost in Yard in Santa Monica, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I received an email from Barbara, asking if could help her find her husband’s ring lost in a yard a year ago. He had been throwing something to his grandkids when the ring flew off of his finger, and was gone. They never saw it again. I did not think it would be a problem as long as it was still there. She wanted to do the search on his birthday, and give the ring back to him as a present to surprise him. The ring was custom made, and he wore it as a symbol of his receiving his Black Belt as a youth, so it had great meaning and sentimental value to him.

When I got to the property, Barbara took me to the yard which was not very big, and I could see was very well manicured. There was not a blade of grass out of place, nor a leaf anywhere on the ground. I thought to myself that if it looked like this the day the ring was lost, how could they not see it, but began my search anyway. I got a good signal, and turned to the owner of the property (the grandkids father), and let him know that I would have to dig a small hole, which he was not pleased to hear, but gave me the go ahead. I dug the hole only to find a buried wire, which made him very nervous about me digging any more holes. He pointed me to another part of the yard that he remembered searching for the ring at the time it was lost. I conducted my search in that area, and got another good signal about 2 inches deep. I let him know that to recover this signal, I would have to dig again, he did not want me to, and I understood his worry, but let him and Barbara know, that the only way to find out if we had found the ring or not was to dig the signal, because I did not want to damage the ring. He finally relented, and I dug. When I flipped the plug of grass and dirt over, there in the dirt was the band of a yellow gold ring shinning in the sunlight. I pulled the ring and gave it to Barbara, needless to say, she was very happy to know that she was going to be able to surprise her husband with a wonderful birthday gift; truly a great day!

Silver Wedding Ring Lost at Park in Thousand Oaks, CA…Found and Happily Returned

Jason called last night after losing his ring at a local park near his house. We discussed the loss, and where he thought it might be. It sounded like we could postpone the search until today because of the length of the grass, and that the loss was on a hillside. We arranged to meet in the morning. So when I finished breakfast, I was on my way.

I met Jason at his house, and then followed him over to the park. When we arrived he showed me where he had been when the loss occurred, and how he believed the ring could have fallen there. I began working the hillside, and received numerous signals, but none registering silver. It wasn’t until I worked passed the tree that is in the photo above that I got the signal I needed. I looked in the grass and could see the round shape that assured me I had found Jason’s ring. I reached down and brought it back up showing him immediately. Needless to say he was very happy to have it back, after having it on his finger for 7 years. I was very glad to have given him that relief. It is much fun making people happy!

Gold Cartier Ring Lost in Malibu, CA…Found and Happily Returned

Sarah called about her lost ring. She was at the beach, and before going down to the water she wisely removed her ring and put it in her pants pocket. When she went to put her pants back on the ring fell into the sand and was gone. She and her friends searched diligently for it with no success. I let her know I was on my way, and would let her know when I arrived.

When I got to the beach, I found where Sarah and her friends were and began my over to them. When I got to her I asked my questions, and was assured the ring was still in the area. I turned on my detector and began my search. I took 3 swings, and dug one signal, it was Sarah’s ring. Within minutes of my arrival Sarah had her ring back on her finger. A very happy ending to a long day!

Tiffany Necklace Lost in the Sand at Santa Monica Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I received a somewhat desperate call from Sarah about 8:00 PM, she had been at the beach earlier in the day, and lost her Tiffany necklace. The weather had finally warmed up, and lured many to the beaches to enjoy the change, Sarah included. She was sitting on her blanket, and realized that her necklace was causing a bit of irritation, so she removed it and placed it on the blanket so as to not lose it. When it was time to leave she forgot the necklace was still on the blanket, got up, shook the sand off of it, and left for home. She got pretty far from the spot before she realized the necklace was gone. She called, and I told her if she would wait, I would come immediately to conduct the search. She agreed to wait, and I was on my way.

When I arrived Sarah told me that the necklace was given to her by her parents, and recently had lost her father, so this necklace loss was a very painful one. She took me out to the area, and explained what had happened. There were some people in the area, so I began working around them until they left. I set a grid, and worked in one direction, Sarah then told me that she believed she was more in the opposite direction, so I changed over to the new area. I was finding some bottle caps, and few coins, and continued the grid. After about 7 or 8 passes, at about 9:30 PM, I got a good silver tone in the head phones, looked down, and saw a partially covered heart. I reached down, and brought up Sarah’s necklace unharmed. I was surprised no one else had found it because it was not totally hidden. Sarah became very emotional telling me that it was one of the things she owned that her father had last touched, and that she had been listening to the music he enjoyed on her way back for the search. What a smile, right?!

I received a call the other day from Alessandro who had lost his custom ring at the exercise yard at Venice Beach the day before. This was a ring he personally designed and crafted with his own hands, so it had a very special meaning to him. I wasn’t real confident of a recovery, but felt assured knowing that the County beach cleaning machines don’t go in there, so the possibilities were better than average for a recovery. I let him know I would leave immediately, and meet him there so he can show me the area and explain what had happened.

I got to the yard, and met with Alessandro. He took me to the area of the loss, and showed me the two areas he had focused on the day before while doing his exercises. He had put his ring in his back pocket, so as not to mar it on the equipment while he exercised. He did a lot of moves that caused him to be upside down in different spots in the yard, so the ring could have come out at one of those times. I searched the logical areas where one would have suspected the ring to have come out and landed; no ring. I went over the areas again; again no ring. One thing I have learned while being a ring finder, is that you have to exhaust all possibilities before you leave, so I began searching in an area that did not seem like a likely area, when I got a good signal. I scooped the sand, and saw a big shiny object. When I shook the sand, there it was. I had my back to Alessandro, and when I turned with his ring outstretched, he got up and ran over. He was very surprised and happy to see his ring again. I was very happy to make his day!
