Kinjal reached out to see if I could help locate her husband’s lost ring. We had just experienced an early season snowstorm that ended around 11 AM and her husband decided to shovel the driveway and clear off their cars before the temperatures dropped into the single digits, which would freeze everything solid. Unfortunately, he wasn’t wearing gloves, and with the ice-cold snow on his hands, the ring easily slipped off.

She explained that a neighbor had loaned them a pinpointer, but despite hours of searching, they had no luck. They had even ordered a metal detector, but it wasn’t going to arrive until the next day. After hearing the situation, I told her I could come right away and asked her to send over the address. I gave her my ETA after I loaded up my gear and was on the road.

I started searching along one side of the driveway, picking up several signals, but none turned out to be the ring. I then moved to the area by the mailbox but still had no luck. Finally, I focused on the other side of the driveway. Just a few feet in, I got a strong signal that seemed promising. Using my pinpointer, I cleared a bit of snow, and the device started beeping like crazy. I reached down, scooped up a handful of snow, and there it was—the ring right in the middle!

Kinjal and her husband were incredibly grateful. As always, it felt great to help them recover something with great sentimental meaning.

Josh found me on the Ringfinders.com site. He had lost is wedding ring of one year. He feared, Finley his dog might have ingested it while throwing snowballs to him. He checked the trash and also had done a few other things out back when he was out with Finley. Well Finley doesn’t like brooms so luckily I didn’t have to try and scan him. It was literally the first signal after swinging the manticore. Always my honor to recover such an irreplaceable and sentimental item for people.

Dylan was walking his dogs on a cold snowy valentines day when he slipped and felt a dog leash pull his wedding ring off. He searched for 3 hours with no success. 2nd time was the charm! Gold ring lost in the snow – found in Indiana, PA by metal detecting specialist Brian Carpenter

I was contacted by Justin who lost his ring while walking his dog in the cold and snow. Justin lived locally but we were having a tough time getting together. Because it was an apartment complex I wanted to get over there and search as soon as possible to try and make sure I/we were the ones who found it. I got held up and by the time I was able to get to Justin’s place he had returned to work so I talked with his girlfriend who pointed to two general locations where he walks the dog. I searched both places a small patch of grass on the corner and a larger patch on the backside of the complex. I looked for a long time with no luck and decided to give up as it was cold and snowy. I told Justin I did not have any luck but I would come back over since it was so close.

It took a week and a half or so before Justin and I could meet back up. Actually I was on my way to his place when he got called back into work. Luckily I was able to get there before he had to go. Justin took me back and showed me a more specific area to search which was not part of my initial search. Prior to going over I had strapped on my small coil to look for the ring as the areas I had searched before were pretty small. However this time, the area Justin pointed out was a lot bigger. I was kicking myself for not bringing my larger coil but because I was so close and had been there before I did not pack it. The thought went through my mind that I should go back to the house for it but I decided to go for it with my small coil and come back out again with the large one if I needed to. It was about 15 – 20 mins of searching the field I located the ring laying on the top of the grass where the snow had melted.

Justin was at work so I sent him a text and he was very happy. We arranged a time for me to meet up with him after work and return the ring. It was a pleasure to meet and help out another kind and generous client. I was also reminded that it is always best to talk to the person who had the loss when possible (I might have found it my first time out) and to take all my equipment no matter how close.

As a side note – the young lady who I had looked for her ring in Plum, PA sent me a text that the ring had been recovered after all the snow melted. I also had another potential customer in West Mifflin, PA text me that he found his ring. Unfortunately I had not been able to make it out as quickly as we would have liked for the search. It is great that all of these rings have been recovered either by myself or the owners and I thank them for updating me. This mean that all the rings that I have been called about for 2025 have been recovered to date – awesome!

The recent « Polar Votex » or just plain COLD weather prompted a series of service calls in just one day which is very unusual. One of the calls was from Vicki who called me and stated that she had lost her ring in the snow when she put it down to run a metal detector over it. They were trying to find an engagement ring that had been lost by another family member earlier in the day when cleaning off her car.  I was just wrapping up another search with disappointingly – no luck. With the cold and darkness Vicki thought it might be good for me to come out another day. I told her I would swing by hoping to have at least one quick recovery as I was going to pass within about 5 miles of the place they were lost on my way home from the current search.

On my way I was thinking how hard can it be to find the ring that was put in the snow, they should pretty much know where it was. I figured I would have a quick recovery of Vicki’s ring and then maybe with some additional luck find the other. I arrived at the search location and found that area in which the ring had been located was pretty much bare. Prior to searching the internet for additional help they tried to sift through all the snow with a garden soil screen and used a heater to melt the snow. All of the snow from where the second ring was lost had been put into garbage cans and dumped alongside the house.

I started to look without much success, first over the original area and then where the new snow was dumped. I did have a really sweet sound but there was nothing there or so I thought. I was not having much luck and after having been in and out of the cold for several hours and with the darkness I decided I would need to come back. As I was getting ready to pack my gear I decided I should pull my car up and check the street again in case the plow came by before I came back out. I walked down and back and on my way back got a good hit. I dug into the packed snow and found the first ring that had been lost.

I got back in the car to head home with the promise of coming back out to look for the other ring. Glad to have found one although it was not the one I thought I would have located first. As I started home I couldn’t help but notice the car thermometer read -3.

The next day I contacted Vicki and told her I did not think I was going to be able to come out, however a couple of things changed and I was able to go back down. I was pretty confident that in the daylight I should be able to find the second ring. Well I was right…within about five minutes I located the ring. Remember the sweet sound I mentioned from the night before. I wanted to remove it from the ground so I would not keep hearing it. I had to dig down about a 1/8 -1/4 of an inch under the ground and there in the mud was Vicki’s ring. The ring must have gotten tramped into the ground during the moving and melting of the snow, but I had been expecting to find it on top of the ground.

I was glad to have found both rings – one that had a history of 48 years and the other that had one of just 34 days. It was great to meet another group of kind and generous people and find the first rings of 2025!

Rob called me after they had search for a couple hours for his wife’s very sentimental ring from her home in Vietnam. She was enjoying her first experience of snow and was throwing it. This was an old property with 100’s of signals and lots of foot traffic because of its location. After about 15 minutes I was able to recover it, not to far from their search area. Meaghan, Bill, and their furry friend were having a lovely week in Ocean City, NJ. One sunny afternoon, they decided to visit the dog park on Haven Avenue. As Bill was tossing the ball for their dog, his wedding band slipped off his finger and vanished in the sandy terrain. Despite enlisting help from fellow park-goers, the ring remained elusive. One of the other dog owners suggested they contact Ring Finders South Jersey for assistance. Upon speaking with Meaghan, I promptly arrived at the scene to lend a hand. With my metal detector, I commenced my search alongside the eager dogs. In no time at all, we uncovered the lost ring! Relieved and grateful, Meaghan and Bill were free to enjoy their final evening in Ocean City, New Jersey.

Lost Sentimental Gold Wedding Band Found in the Snow, Portland, Maine.

On Monday January 23, 2023, I received a text from someone who lost a very sentimental wedding band, in the snow. Fred, had been cleaning the snow off of his car, during a storm that would eventually drop 10-12 inches of fresh snow on the area, along with sleet and freezing rain.  When Fred got back into his house, he noticed his custom made wedding ring was missing. He went out looking for it around his car but had no luck locating the ring. Fred states that he started to panic, as the plow would be coming back through and was afraid of the plow would take it down the road and be forever lost. Fred rust back inside and frantically searched online on how to find a lost ring in the snow. At that point, Fred found The Ring Finders website. Fred then contacted me with the text message. I immediately called Fred back and let him know that because of the snow day I would not be able to make it to Portland because I was home alone with my 5 year old granddaughter whose Kindergarten school had been canceled. The police were also asking everyone not to travel because of the weather. I then told Fred that if he could shovel the snow from around the car and throw it up onto the lawn, it would be safe from the plow and I could get out to his place the next day or so, if he so desires. Fred said he would let me know and went back outside and shoveled all the snow around his car, up onto the lawn.

I did not hear back from Fred until 3 days later , when he texted me and let me know that he and his wife had been sifting through the snow that he had thrown up onto the lawn and had found the priceless ring.
InFred’s own words.   “Just wanted to let you know that we searched the snow I put on the grass again tonight and found my ring! Thank you so so so much for that idea! I was totally losing my head and you helped keep me sane and I got my ring back thanks to your quick thinking! ”

Fred then went on to tell me how the custom ring was made.Again, in Fred’s own words.                        “It’s gold and white gold with a ruby. It was made along side my wife’s by melting down some old family rings that were given to us for that purpose.” “My wife’s is two rings. The engagement ring sits inside the wedding band. It’s rubies and sapphires.”

So even though I did not find his ring with my detector, I feel absolutely elated that this very sentimental ring is back where it belongs, on Fred’s finger. Fred sent me a photo of his ring and his wife’s custom made ring. Beautiful and now back together

Great Great Grandmother’s Heirloom Ring Lost on Toboggan Hill Beaumaris Park, Edmonton, Alberta.

I received an urgent call around 8:15 pm from Ihsan requesting my service to locate his niece’s ring which she lost while playing in the snow. It was imperative to find this ring because his niece was flying home to Sydney Australia in the morning. After asking Ihsan a few questions I agreed to meet him within ½ hour.
When I arrived at the park and meet Ihsan I could sense he was very upset. He told me he had his whole family out on the hill searching for five hours with no luck. I assured Ihsan if the ring was there I would find it for him providing he put me in the area that the ring was lost in and he did.
His niece was making snow angles and had pulled the ring off her finger and put it in her pocket for safe keeping. After she got up she put her hand in her pocket and was shocked to find the ring was gone.
Ihsan told me the ring belonged to his niece’s great, great Grandmother and that it was very sentimental to the whole family. I began my search and within 15 minutes I found a rose gold ring in the area but that was not the ring! The ring I was looking for was a yellow gold ring with a diamond so we faced timed his niece and showed her the ring. She said that was one of her rings but she never told anyone that she had lost both rings as she was only concerned about her great, great Grandmothers ring.
I knew by my experience the other ring was close by and within a few minutes found the other ring, Ihsan was excited to have both rings back in his hand and I’m positive the whole family were over the moon, And his niece will never forget her stay in snowy Edmonton Alberta.
