Lost Ring… Found In Iowa City, Iowa

Hello Everyone,

I’ve been watching Chris Turner videos for awhile now and they always made me feel good. So I decided to take the plunge and join his Ring Finder site. I was a bit skeptical going in because I thought who would ever see this site and then give me a call. Well I joined on Jan. 28, 2011 and got my first call five short days later on Feb. 2nd. Needless to say I was very surprised.

I live in the eastern part of Iowa and we had a blizzard on Feb. 1st which dumped 12 to 14 inches of new snow. On Feb. 2nd I received a call from a young fella who lost his palladium wedding band during the storm. He said he had a good idea where it fell off at. So we agreed to meet the next day after I got off work.

I arrived the next day at 4:15 p.m. and met with his wife who showed me the area where his ring fell off his finger. Talking to her I found out they had only been married 7 months so this was a very sentimental ring to them. The snow was super deep and I wasn’t getting any signals. I had the discrimination on my detector wide open except for iron. I wasn’t sure where palladium would hit on the E-Trac but I was hoping it would be on the 12 line. I finally went over a target but it didn’t sound very good or look good. I dug down to the ground and it was deeper still so I knew that couldn’t be it. The next signal I got was just a whisper but it made me stop and investigate. I dug a couple of scoops with my shovel and it started to sound a little better, a few more scoops and wow there’s something here. I then had the target on top of the snow. I took my glove off and reached down into the snow and I could feel a ring! When I pulled it out and handed it to his wife her eyes got really big, I think she was stunned for a few seconds.

Her husband arrived a short time later and was very happy. He slipped the ring back on his finger as soon as he could. He told me that they had rented a detector and tried to find it themselves but the rental didn’t work very well. He said he wished he would have found the Ring Finders site before he wasted money on the bogus rental.

I must say that they were a very nice young couple and I was so happy I could help them. I know they truly appreciated it. I’ve found rings for people before but this was also special for me. My first success as a Ring Finder! Now I know why Chris loves his job.

Gold wedding band found on beach in Rio de Janeiro

Last Christmas Eve was a very sunny and hot Friday. I had been metal detecting in my
favorite beach, Barra da Tijuca, for about three hours, with no luck, just the usual abundance of bottle caps, pull tabs, and some coins, when a guy came up to me and asked whether I was metal detecting. I said yes and he asked me if I could do him a big favor and try to find the wedding band he had just lost in dry sand near the place where we were. I said it would be a pleasure to find it. There, he told me he was playing volleyball with his family and upon hitting the ball, he felt his band fly through the air but he could not see exactly where it landed. Everybody, including his wife, three kids and even his mother in law had searched the ring for about an hour when he saw me and could not believe I had a metal detector.
I started searching on the spot he told me it had landed. After about fifteen minutes of search in the area where they “thought” it was. (they did not really think I would find it….his wife told me they had dug the area so much, the ring would probably be too deep to be found. And I said that if the coil went over it, I would find it).
I then did a grid search and………bingo…..on my third marking of the grid. Needless to say they got very excited and could not believe I had the guy`s band in my scoop.
His wife told me it was like winning the lottery because they had never seen someone metal detecting and just when her husband loses his ring a man with a metal detector shows up and recovers what they already considered lost forever. They gave me a reward, which I had not asked, and everybody was very happy.

My first Blog

Just wanted to say hi to everyone from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. I have been a member of the ring finders for close to a year now and just love what is represents. Chris Turner has done an excellent job building this great service. I love metal detecting as a hobby and nothing is better than helping someone find lost jewelry or keys that they think are gone forever. This year I was only able to do 2 searches for people, one was for an earring that I was unsuccessful with and the other was for 2 lost rings that had a great ending. The rings were tossed out a door in a moment of grief but then promptly searched for without success. The next day I was called. When the rings were tossed they were said to have hit a parked car and ricocheted off the car. I was able to locate the first ring on the other side of the car in the neighbours yard and the second ring was about the same distance in the total opposite direction. luckily both rings were found within about 20 minutes and needless to say the teary eyed owner was very happy. I am still working on getting some pictures which I will post soon after.

Found wedding ring in Mishawaka, Indiana

Today I met a young couple. Chris Turner called me at work last week and asked me if I could find a ring that a man had lost in the snow, I immediately jumped to the chance until he told me it was in Mishawaka, Indiana 100 miles south of my home. I told him I would contact the couple and see what the search would entail. I emailed the name that Chris had given me and it turned out to be a young woman named Monica, who had come from Venezuela a month ago to study English. In her email she said it would be easier to communicate with her through email than to talk to her on the phone because her English was not that good. Monica told me that after it had snowed last weekend her and her husband (Juan) had just returned to their apartment and feeling frisky in the new fallen snow, Juan made a snowball and threw it in Monicas direction. When he threw the snowball he flet his wedding ring come flying off. After searching for the ring, Monica went on line and found « theringfinders » website so she contacted Chris. I was the closest Ring Finder to them so he called me.

I told Monica I would travel the 100 miles to their apartment and find the ring. They agreed to pay my travel expenses. I arrived at their home and started my search. There was about 15 inches of snow plus some mounds from shoveling. I asked Juan to show me where he was standing and how he threw the snowball. I proceeded to search an area of about 20 by 50 feet. I set up a grid and after about an hour and a half and a break for hot chocolate, I got a beep on my Bounty Hunter Time Ranger and there it was. I presented it to Monica and Juan and they started smiling from ear to ear. I got a big hug from Monica and a big double hand shake from Juan.

Juan had purchased the 18K ring from Columbia and it contained a braid of pink gold and a braid of black gold with the band of yellow gold. He asked me if he could give me a reward besides the auto expense and I gladly accepted his offer. It is such a rewarding experience to find someones prized possession it is almost reward enough.

Lost Diamond Ring in South West Vancouver… Blog & Video

Tonight I received a call from a young lady who lost a very special ring, it was her diamond ring and she was heart broken that it was lost.

I was told by Jen that the ring came off when she was feeding crows from her patio, on the 4th floor of their apartment.  When she was throwing the food to the crows her ring came off,  she feared it may have landed on the apartment roof  next door.

We did a few test throws with a ring I gave her,  this  gives me the general direction and I started my search. Within 15 minutes I got a great signal that fell into the gold reading on my Whites XLT metal detector.

I moved some leafs and snow and saw the glint of white gold, I bent down to take a closer look and I could see the ring that was stuck into the ground, as it was walked on for sure by Jen and her boyfriend who had spent many hours with a rented metal detector, but had no luck finding the ring.

I was very happy to have found the ring for Jen, Its nice to know its back where it belongs.  It was nice meeting you Jen & Ryan! Thank you for generous reward Jen!

Lost Wedding Ring St. Paul Minnesota Recovered

Melonie from St. Paul Minnesota called and said that her husband Chris had lost his wedding ring in a snowbank near an apartment building. They were « house sitting » for friends and while outside by the street; Chris’s gloves got snow in them and as he was shaking them off his ring flew off. This was a tough search because the ring was lost right were a car was parked and we couldn’t find the owner of the car to have them move it. As we all know, cars have just a bit of metal in them and we couldn’t get near it as the detectors go crazy. I decided to pull out my SunRay Probe and scan close to the car and after a 15 minute search, we found it. I really wish we could of taken a video of Chris’s reaction when we found it, he was so happy as this was a very special ring to him. The temp was so cold out that the video camera just wasn’t working out. Well…maybe next time. Hey Chris, happy we could locate it for you. Take Care.

Lost Key FOB Minneapolis Minnesota found

David was snowboarding at Auburn Park in North East Minneapolis when he realized his key FOB was missing. He searched and couldn’t find it on the sledding hill. He posted on Craigslist in the lost and found to see if anyone had found it. While posting an Ad for the Ring Finders on Craigslist we saw Davids Ad. We called him right away and found out more informatin on the location. It didn’t take too long and we got a nice hit and there was the FOB under the snow. We called David and he drove right down to the park and now has his FOB back where it belongs. Please tell everyone you know about the Ring Finders, people lose their valuables everyday and most have no clue where to turn to for help. Lost Wedding ring Minneapolis / St. Paul Minnesota recovered

It’s been a cold & very snowy winter this year in Minnesota, and we still have a good 2 to 3 months left. Eric called the ring finders as he was at his parents house with family for Christmas and while out playing around in the backyard; His Gold Wedding band flew off his finger. The snow is very deep and trying to find it would be nearly impossible without the correct equipment. That’s were The Ring Finders Come In!! We arrived at the site and Erics parents showed us the approximate location of where the ring was lost, after 5 minutes we got a strong hit on the detector, a couple scoops of snow later and out popped the ring. It worked out great as Eric works right on my way home from his parents. We met at a gas station and I took the attached photos of his ring and with Eric holding his ring. Glad we could help and I hope everyone out there had a Merry Christmas! Here is the video:

Lost Keys Found Yakima Washington

Good things can happen in 10 seconds if you know the right questions to ask. This search was what I would call perfect. It began when I was asked by a friend of mine to keep a look out for a large set of keys he lost the week before.

We had both been working on a « Journey to Bethlehem » live production here in Yakima Washington. We had around 3700 people go through the village over four nights. His part of the production was to plan and build the sets. After the weekend was over, we received seven inches of heavy wet snow which stressed our buildings.

My friend had been using a rake to pull the snow off the roof, and when he went to go home he realized the keys he had in his pocket had fallen out. Due to the new snow he was unable to locate the keys.

I had been searching for a large silver earring that had been lost around the village, and he knew this, so he asked me to keep an eye out.

Well, I had searched the village 5 different times with my metal detector and was able to tell the nice lady who lost it « somewhere » between her home and the event, that it was not lost on the path.

My friend was there as well, working on taking the buildings down, so I decided to search for his keys next.

I asked him more questions about what he had been doing the day he lost the keys and what areas he had been working in. I thought it was logical that he must have lost it when pulling snow off the roofs and did not find it because it had been hidden by the snow.

I decided to start the search behind the buildings snow piles. I went to the first building and had been searching the piles for about three steps, when I noticed the keys laying in the melted snow pile.

It was over almost before it started. That is my fastest search to date and I will take a little luck anytime. It also helped to ask the right questions, and it was good he remembered where and what he had been doing that day.

He was glad to get the keys back, and I was glad to be a part of the search.

I usually ask so many questions before I take on a search the people must think I am crazy, but it really helps narrow the search down, and also gives me an idea if they really know with certainty in what general area they lost it. Doing a grid search takes time, and the more focused it can be, the more likely I will find it.
