Ringing In The New Year 2024, By Dave Milsted

  • from South Jersey (New Jersey, United States)
Contact:

I am not using the real names of this couple. I will call them Betty & Barney Rubble. Barney called me to see if I could help find some lost jewelry. He was referred to me by Fellow Ring Finder/Treasure Hunter Ed Cropski (he was out of town for the weekend). I work with a core group of excellent detectorists with much experience. If one of us gets a call and can’t make it, we give it to someone in our group.
Barney said his wife got very angry and walked out the back door to their deck, and Bam-Bam threw 2 silver bracelets, a gold wedding ring, and a gold engagement ring. Doing his own reconnaissance, he found 1 of the bracelets. I was near the neighbor’s fence beside a pile of wood rubble, reminding me of a gravel pit. The other 3 items are still missing.
Betty was out on their deck in the area where she was when she threw her jewelry. She looked very sad. After reviewing the angle of where Barney found the first bracelet and the scene, I told Barney that gold rings would travel farther than the lighter bracelet. I asked if his neighbors were okay with me searching their backyard. He said yes that he contacted them after our phone call. Betty went inside.
I started searching the neighbor’s yard. There were a lot of signals. There is a newer deck, and I was finding a ton of wood screws that are used in deck building. After about 12 minutes of searching, I started to look under the deck. I almost immediately found the engagement ring. It was under the deck. From where Betty threw the jewelry and the angle of where the ring was, it had to go through the open-backed stairs from the ground to the deck; if I threw it, it would have bounced off one of the steps. Lucky throw.
I intensified my search under the deck. It took another minute or two to find the missing bracelet. At this point, Barney had no idea I found either item. I asked him if he could hold my pinponter. He came over, and I held out my hand and dropped the engagement ring & bracelet into his hand. The look in his eyes was priceless.
I asked Barney if he would search on the deck for the other ring while I searched on the ground. I didn’t feel right searching up there with all of the windows. The neighbors know Barney, not me.
About 5 minutes went by, and Barney was standing next to me. He held out his hand that held the missing ring. My hunch paid off; it was laying on some covered furniture on the deck. He enjoyed the thrill of making the discovery.
Betty came out on their deck as I talked to Barney in the driveway. I told her to come down & get her jewelry. She was grinning from ear to ear. Barney and Betty are happy once again in Bedrock.

Lost Wedding Ring in Kia Dashboard…Found by Ring Finder in Wheaton, Maryland

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Ebony’s 14 karat rose gold and diamond nested wedding ring that vehicle ring finder Brian Rudolph was able to recover from the dashboard of a Kia.

Ebony excitedly holds up her precious diamond ring that she thought that she may never be able to wear again! Thanks to the skills of Brian Rudolph…the jewel was saved from the belly of her Kia’s dashboard!

Brian Rudolph, Lost Item Recovery Specialist (Land, Water, Sand, Snow, Leaves, Cliffs, Houses & Vehicles) Will Find Your Lost Keepsake! Call ASAP (301) 466-8644!

Ebony’s car was parked while she took off her wedding band and engagement ring to apply lotion to her hands. She carefully placed the rings on top of the dashboard of her fairly new Kia. Just as Ebony reached for her most important jewelry, the rings slid away from her fingers and the wedding band disappeared into the catacombs of the dashboard and could no longer be seen or retrievable.

Ebony knew that there was nothing that she could do to gain access to the area where her beloved wedding band was trapped. She had two choices: One, she could spend up to $2500.00 to have the dashboard removed in order to gain access to the precious rose gold jewel. Or Two, the distraught young lady could look online for a ring finder specialist who deals with recovering rings in vehicles. Ebony chose the latter direction! That’s when my client searched online and typed in: « how to find ring in dashboard ». Immediately, a YouTube video popped up on her phone and it was a vehicle ring search conducted by a great ring finder professional, a good friend and colleague of mine – The Seattle Ring Hunter, Jeff Morgan! Ebony saw the advertisement for the elite international directory of metal detectorists called THE RING FINDERS on Jeff’s video and that is when she made contact with me.

After I received all of the details that I needed to hear, I worked out a time to meet up with Ebony in order to conduct the search. When I arrived, my client showed me the dashboard and pointed in the direction of where the wedding band disappeared into the endless chambers of plastic and fiberglass.

Next, I retrieved the necessary gear to begin the recovery operation. In all honesty, I had no idea whether or not this recovery attempt could even be successful based on how complicated the situation was. My probe couldn’t find the ring anywhere in sight which told me that this was a tough search in every which way!

I searched and searched for the missing sentimental keepsake and eventually, after perhaps another 45 minutes or so, I viewed on my screen what appeared to be a piece of rose gold dangling on a strip of cable and wire. Even though I was excited about identifying the location of the missing ring, the method for retrieving the jewelry was entirely a huge question mark for me!

I tried and tried hard again to manipulate my scope and hook to maneuver them into position to grab ahold of the target. Unfortunately every attempt ended in failure. However, I didn’t give up. I kept trying new strategies to see if I could capture the gold and diamonds with some other method and or angle. And yes, I am so very happy to share that after a long period of time, I was finally able to recover Ebony’s beloved lost 14 karat rose gold and diamonds nested wedding band from the depths of that ferocious Kia dashboard! The jewel had fallen deep down into the middle of the inner contraptions and wiring of the dash and I was even impressed with myself with what I was able to accomplish that morning!

The most favorite part of the visit was calling my client up to share the fantastic news that I was successfully able to recover Ebony’s special ring (she had to go into work so I was left with the Kia to work on the search)! She was beyond thrilled at hearing the positive update! She couldn’t believe it! the young lady was getting her ring back! I saved Ebony a fortune by not having to go to the dealer to remove the dashboard and I helped to preserve a very important and sentimental keepsake! My client was so very happy that she found my services through Jeff Morgan’s YouTube video and THE RING FINDER’S website! What a fantastic finish!

Lost Gold Wedding Ring Worn for Decades is Found by Ring Finder in Olney, Maryland

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Bruce’s 14 karat yellow gold braided style wedding band that professional ring finder Brian Rudolph is able to recover for his client!

Bruce could not have been happier as he held up his priceless and irreplaceable wedding band that had been lost for days until metal detectorist Brian Rudolph came to the rescue!

Brian Rudolph, Lost Item Recovery Specialist (Land, Water, Sand, Snow, Leaves, Cliffs, Houses & Vehicles) Will Find Your Lost Keepsake! Call ASAP (301) 466-8644!

Bruce did not know where he lost his wedding band. He wasn’t sure if it fell off of his finger in the house or somewhere outside around his property. He could not even remember exactly the last time he noticed the special jewel before he realized it was gone from his hand.

Bruce looked everywhere for his irreplaceable, sentimental keepsake. When it was not found inside his home, he focused on the lawn and around places where he was weeding, pruning and cleaning up the garden pen.

Sadly, the gentleman was not able to find his priceless ring anywhere. At some point he looked online and found the elite international directory of metal detectorists called THE RING FINDERS. That’s when Bruce contacted me and we went over all of the details regarding the loss of his ring.

The next evening, I made my way over to Bruce and Debbie’s property with the hope that I would be able to solve this ring mystery. Bruce led me first over to the left side of the front of the house where he had been weeding. He had taken gloves off at different places around the property. He then took me to the backyard and showed me where he had pruned a tree that was covered by burlap to protect it from the present cold season.

Next, we walked around the center of the back lawn and he showed me where he chopped up sticks and debris in a wood chopper. We walked onto his back deck where he had been doing a few things and then finally he directed me over to the far corner of his backyard where he had his garden pen. He showed me what he worked on in that area and all of the places where he reorganized some of the garden hardware and other tools.

After I got all of the details down, I returned to my vehicle to retrieve all of the necessary metal detecting equipment that I would need to conduct this search. I first started in the front area along the side of his property. I laid down grid lines so that I would not miss a square inch. When I did not find the ring there, I went to the backyard and decided to focus first on the pruned tree that was covered in burlap.

Once I transferred my equipment over to the tree in the backyard, I turned up the sensitivity on the detector and began to metal detect all around the top portion of the branches where the burlap covered most of it. I wanted to see if maybe the ring got caught up in the top portion of the tree when Bruce had been cutting back some of the branches up on top. Unfortunately, no metal was found.

I then turned down the sensitivity on my machine and placed the detector coil underneath the burlap towards the ground. I wanted to see if there were any signals coming from below the tree trunk. This particular procedure was not easy because I was dealing with a metal fence surrounding the tree to protect it from animals and to keep the young creation from tipping over.

I slowly moved around the narrow tree and as I got about three fourths way around it, I got an interesting signal. The numbers that were showing up on my detector screen were just the numbers that I had been looking for. I wasn’t sure if I was picking up metal from the surrounding protective fence that was keeping the tree vertical, but I was determined to do a little more research on where that piece of metal was coming from.

I took out my handheld metal detector called a pinpointer and knelt down on the ground to further detect this one particular spot. I was extremely encouraged to discover that whatever this piece of metal was, it was isolated to the area at the edge of the trunk underneath the burlap.

After a couple of attempts to try to acquire the mysterious piece of metal that I had detected, I finally was able to grab a handful of dirt and leaves that did in fact contain the item in the midst of it all. And I am very excited to share that within my grasp, there it was…Bruce’s huge handsome 14 karat yellow gold braided style wedding ring! I found it!!!!! It was there at the bottom of the tree trunk the entire time!

What a moment! Bruce was beyond blown away by my findings! He couldn’t believe it and yet his eyes were beholding his beloved keepsake! He agreed that he didn’t think that he would have ever found his wedding band ever again! Having a professional ring finder on board for this particular search was indeed the final link that brought a very happy reunion between the man and his favorite piece of jewel!

Metal Detecting a Lost Gold Wedding Band in Silver Spring…Found by Detectorist Brian Rudolph

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Atur’s very handsome 18 karat yellow gold wedding band which detectorist Brian Rudolph recovered in a community park in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Anjali was so happy that the 18 karat yellow gold ring that she picked out and put on her husband’s finger so many years earlier was now back in their possession once again!

Brian Rudolph, Lost Item Recovery Specialist (Land, Water, Sand, Snow, Leaves, Cliffs, Houses & Vehicles) Will Find Your Lost Keepsake! Call ASAP (301) 466-8644!

Atur was playing with his little girl over by the park near his house. As he threw a ball up into the air for his daughter to catch, he felt his 18 karat yellow gold wedding ring slip off of his finger.

Atur began to search for his ring that he confidently knew that it must have landed nearby to him. A few minutes of looking turned out to be endless hours and then even days of searching for the lost ring. The gentleman even tried using a metal detector to find his beloved keepsake, but even utilizing that tool led to no available.

At some point, after Atur and his wife Anjali exhausted all efforts to find the irreplaceable piece of jewelry at the park, they went online and found THE RING FINDERS, a website that consists of a directory of metal detectorists that specialize in recovering lost rings and other items.

After I received the call from the couple, we worked out a time for me to come out and search for the ring. The biggest concern that everyone had was whether or not someone had already « eyeballed » the piece of gold (since the wood chip covered tot lot and concrete sidewalk had surrounded the grass and trees where Atur threw the ball).

When I arrived at the search site, Anjali took me on a tour to show me exactly where her husband stood when he lost his ring. Then, I immediately returned to my car where I retrieved all of the necessary metal detecting equipment and began the search thereafter.

At first, I metal detected the grass without using my grid lines. I had plenty of signals, but I detected no gold ring. I hoped that I had not missed any real estate and when I did not find the piece of jewelry that I was looking for. So, I pulled out my grid lines and began detecting all over again. I was hoping that I had just missed the ring before and that it was still somewhere on the grass.

I’m excited to share that while swinging the machine over the third grid lane, I got a promising signal and I immediately checked it out. The tone was a bit choppy and the numbers on my detector seemed slightly irregular but I wasn’t going to take a chance on missing the prized possession belonging to my clients.

As it turned out, I in fact found the lost ring that had gone missing for many days and was presumably lost forever! It had flown approximately 40 feet behind Atur towards the left side of the grassy park lawn!

I can’t describe how excited the couple was when I surprised each of them individually! They really couldn’t believe that the wedding band was actually found! They were so grateful that my skills and my faith in the Lord for helping me recover such possessions for such people as Atur and Anjali was even possible. They also were indebted to Chris Turner of THE RING FINDERS who started such a directory over 15 years ago to help people just like them recover what most likely would have been lost forever!

Eva called saying she had lost two rings. She called immediately after realizing they were gone, and I let her know that I would come as soon as possible knowing that time is the enemy of a successful search.

When I got to the beach Eva said that she had not moved from the area where she believed the rings were lost, and I could see the search grid that she had already been made looking for them. I donned my equipment, and began my search, and it wasn’t long before I had one of her rings in the scoop. I knew the other wasn’t far away. A couple more swings of the detector, one more scoop of sand, and Eva’s second ring was found. She was very happy to have them back again. Her smile tells it all.

Gold Ring lost in Whangarei Paddock – Found in 12 minutes.

  • from Paihia (New Zealand)

Jax was feeding some ‘tame’ wild ducks today, throwing the food out to them over the fence into the paddock.
During one throw she said she felt her Grandmother’s sovereign ring, recently resized and now slightly loose, fly off her finger.

She wasn’t too concerned as she intended to go into the paddock and pick it up after finishing with the ducks.

Food exhausted, and heavy ducks wandering off, Jax opened the farm gate and ambled out into the paddock to pick up her lost ring.
At least, that was the plan.
After the family had also been enlisted to join the search to no avail, her son searched on the internet for a Whangarei metal detector, and found me.

A couple of hours later, I arrived and quickly got kitted up and into action.

The fast, cursory sweep out into the paddock failed to locate it, so I settled into my systematic high resolution ‘forensic’ searching.
A couple of minutes later the metal farm gate came within the search pattern, I swung it clear to get a clean signal and sure enough, there was the ring nestled in the grass.
Right where Jax had been standing – As is often the case, the actual loss was not as initially perceived by the owner.

I advised her to get a ‘ring guard’ fitted, a small spring bar that fits inside the ring to aid in keeping loose rings where they need to be.

Phone recovered at Sunshine in Banff National Park.

  • from Cochrane (Alberta, Canada)

Josh called me. He found me right here on TheRingFinders.com.  While skiing he made a sharp turn on a steep hill and his phone fell out of his pocket and into the snow. Two days later we went up to take a look after noting that the Find My Phone app had it located as still being where the loss took place.  Watch the video to see what happened.

In the middle of high season the SeattleRingHunter gets another call out for a dock dropped iPhone in Lake Union. As this was a dock drop midweek with a busy schedule I opted to take some of my special recovery tools to see if we could “fish” the iPhone 11 off the bottom of the lake without having to do a SCUBA recovery. SCUBA recovery is a labor intensive endeavor requiring a lot of gear to be loaded, transported, as a full cold water diver there is a fair bit of gear used during the search including labor efforts for the tare down after the dive, proper post dive maintenance and stowing of my gear back at my hide out.

By picking the low hanging fruit first I can often times be more efficient on my recovery efforts. If a plan fails I gain some valuable knowledge on how to modify my process for the next go around. The reassuring comfort I carry is the fact that I have a fall back plan allowing me to offer a full underwater dive recovery effort as needed.

Come along for another exciting classic water recovery as we go fishing for a dock dropped iPhone 11 in the lake!

When Charles called, he told me he had lost his wedding ring while playing volleyball at the beach the day before. He was at work, and would be unable to meet me at the spot, so I asked if he would send me a map of the area showing where to search, and I would go immediately to try and insure a successful recovery. He was able to send everything, so I was on my way.

I got there, and noticed that the beach cleaning machines had gone over one side of one of the two courts in the area, which caused a bit of worry. I began searching going over the untouched side of the court, then began on the side where the machine went through. There was about 6-7 feet of sand that was not cleaned, and in that narrow bit of sand I found Charles’ ring. I sent him a picture, and let him know that I would drive it to him, because his business was close. He was very happy to have it back again.

I got a call from a gentleman who lost his ring at the beach. He had gone surfing, and left it with his belongings. He picked his stuff up when leaving forgetting it was there, and the ring was gone. We arranged to meet right away so as to insure a successful recovery.

I got to the beach, and he took me to the area explaining what had happened. The great thing is he had called right away, and new exactly where he had been. It took mere minutes to be able to reunite him with his ring again, and put a smile on his face.
