Eric reached out to me via email. He’d been in a rush to take down his Christmas decorations before an incoming snowstorm and, in the process, had lost his yellow gold wedding ring. We arranged to meet after his workday ended.

Upon arrival, Eric showed me the area where he’d been working. The search area, blanketed by about three inches of snow, wasn’t very large. He mentioned he needed to pick up his daughter from school but would return in about ten minutes.

As soon as Eric and his wife left, I began my search. Just a minute later, my detector gave a strong signal in the gold range. I brushed away the snow, and there it was—Eric’s gleaming yellow-gold wedding ring. I snapped a few photos and waited for their return.

When I saw them approaching, I pretended to still be searching. Eric’s wife got out of the car first, and I quietly asked her to wait a moment. Eric followed and said, « I guess you haven’t had any luck. » I asked if he recalled shaking his hands or doing anything that might have flung the ring beyond the immediate area. He didn’t. While he scanned the lawn, I revealed the ring from my gloved hand. His wife noticed first, and her surprised smile was wonderful to see. Eric’s reaction was even better.

They were both overjoyed. His wife was particularly thrilled, exclaiming, « This is great! Now I can finally get that dining room carpet and not have to buy him a new ring! »

I love my hobby!

20 Year Class Ring Reunion in Overland Park

My co-worker Chris relayed a story about losing his class ring in 2004.  We finally got a break with the weather and schedule to take a look for it.  Didn’t take long as it was within 5′ of where he described losing it 20 years ago.  How’s that for a class (ring) reunion!!

14K Yellow Gold Diamond Ring Lost, Found and Returned Oak Island NC

This adventure started on the evening of February 28th, around 6 p.m. when I received the following text message, “I lost my diamond ring in the yard today. I was raking leaves and cutting plants….could u help me?? I live in Oak Island NC.” I called the number attached to the text and didn’t get an answer, so I replied to her text saying, “Yes, call (included my number). Jim.” Within a couple of minutes, she called, and I got additional details. I told her I could be there in an hour, which she agreed to and sent me her address.

When I arrived, I met Teresa, and she showed me the areas she suspected her ring could be. I turned on my Equinox 800 and went to work.  I scanned 3 or 4 piles of leaves, a couple of other areas she was in and there was no ring. I originally thought this would be an easy search, sure fooled me!!! She asked if I could check her concrete porch. I advised her that more than likely there was rebar in the concrete, which there was. We started doing a visual search. She mentioned that she had repotted some plants, so I used my pin pointer to check the planters. While I was checking one planter, Teresa picked up another planter to move to closer to me. Suddenly, she said “here it is!” When she had picked up the planter, it tilted enough to cause the ring to come out of hiding and hit the floor. She was so excited and relieved.

Lost Sentimental Gold Cross & Chain at Paradise Cove Beach Ko Olina…FOUND!!!

This Gold Cross & Necklace hunt began when I got a call from Jose who is from Columbia and was vacationing on Oahu.  While enjoying the waters of Paradise Cove Beach, Jose  had taken his cross and necklce off for safe keeping and placed it on a towel.  Unbeknownst to the family members someone used the towel and when Jose came out of the water the cross & necklace were no where to be found.  He found « Metal Detector services » on Google and gave me a call.  I was wrapping up my work day, so I told Jose I would run home, grab my gear and head on over in about an hour.  They waited for me to arrive and when I got there Jose and his lovely wife met me on the beach to show me where they thought the cross & necklace would be.  Jose drew a box in the sand and I started the grid search.  A few minor trash targets, then a nice solid 18 on the Manticore and in one scoop there was the beautiful necklace glistening in the scoop.  Jose and his family were overjoyed as I was in the last line of the grid and they were worried.  I always try hard to find Jesus and today we did.  Aloha to Jose and his family!

*** Martha and her husband were boarding a small electric boat for a evening cruise of the Newport Beach Back Bay, Orange County, California.

As she stepped  off the dock onto the Duffy Boat she felt her gold diamond bracelet slip off her wrist and heard it splash in the water.

When they returned, Martha got online, calling me for help. The location was less than a mile from my home. We met at 9pm to access the location for a recovery attempt as soon as possible. The tide was highest of the day and it would be 6 ft. lower tomorrow in the daytime.

This search would require several hours to prepare for a dive, so we met the next afternoon. I brought my diving / detecting gear and Rudy who would be my dive buddy. Rudy is learning to search with my equipment and he will be my back up diver when I can’t get to a dive search.

Our plan was to switch off diving for the bracelet. I wanted Rudy do the first dive. Fifteen minutes into the session, Rudy came up with the beautiful gold diamond bracelet. He got to experience the joy of returning a very sentimental piece of jewelry.

I now have myself and two other divers that I can count on to cover these dive recoveries. Dive recoveries take so much preparation. It’s always good to have backup divers that can also be present. Dive detecting needs a buddy diver or at least a dive spotter.

Lost Wedding Ring Recovered in Lutz FL

Item recovered October 18, 2024. Joyce reached out to me to assist locate a ring that her husband lost in the yard while cleaning up after hurricane Milton made landfall near Tampa. She was referred to me by a neighbor, Kim, whom I had assisted locating an earring in her back yard.

Kim was passing by their house and saw her neighbors looking for something in the grass. When they mentioned the lost ring, Kim gave Joyce my number to help with their search.

I set out in the afternoon, and made my way to their house in Lutz. When I arrived, the yard was cleaned up. Joyce and her husband showed me the area where they were working when the ring was lost.

The area was in the landscaping at the front corner of their house. The area had plant coverage that was approximately 1-2 feet high with wispy blades, which made it difficult to get into with my metal detector. I did my best, searching around every plant and trying not to cause damage to these plants as I moved about. I detected the area 2-3 times, but didn’t find anything.

Next, I detected the bag of debris that was picked up in that area thinking perhaps the ring fell off in the bag. Nothing was found, so I started searching the grassy area surrounding the landscaping. No luck!

I was starting to feel like a failure and asked if they could show me the path they took to walk to and from the area where they were working. After a 5-10 steps I detected a strong signal and the ring was located!

The area where the ring was found was where they had initially emptied the bag of debris to search for the ring. It must have been in the bag and had fallen out when they searched the contents for the ring.

Lost Gold Wedding Ring Recovered in Lutz Florida

Item recovered November 29, 2024. Justin called about a missing ring he lost the night before around his house. The weather had become cooler in the evenings and he was enjoying a fire pit in his back yard with friends. He got up to gather some additional wood for the fire – small branches and twigs that had fallen from trees around his property in a recent storm.

When I arrived, Justin had two likely places where the ring would be. The first spot was near the sidewalk in the front yard of his property where the debris was placed for collection. The second was at the base of a tree in his back yard.

We started detecting the spot in his front yard first. Going over the area, I was getting a good sound, but the item was located below the surface and likely wouldn’t be his missing ring.

After a few minutes, we ruled that spot out and moved to the base of the tree in his back yard. Almost immediately I got a familiar signal that sounded like a ring. I moved a couple small twigs and immediately recognized the yellow gold ring in the grass.

Men’s Gold Ring Recovered in Seffner Florida

Item recovered September 22, 2024. Venkata reached out to me by text to see if I could help locate a

lost ring somewhere on a Cricket field. He was sitting on the bleachers preparing for the game and took his ring off his finge

r to put into his pocket. However, after the game was over, he could not locate the ring.

His position took him over a large portion of the cricket field, so I set off to search the entire area. I walked straight lines back and forth over the large area where he had been. I worked slowly and while the grass was short, rings can easily hide below the blades of grass.

It took me about one hour and 15 minutes to cover the area where he had been and there was very little metal on the field itself. We decided to go back to the metal bleachers where he was sitting and we both visually inspected the area underneath the seats since the metal detectors wouldn’t be effective in this location.

No ring was found under the bleachers, so I got the detector going again and started detecting the area surrounding the bleachers. There were many metal targets in this area, including the typical bottle caps and small aluminum bits we often find at parks and beaches.

One particular sound gave me pause and upon inspection it was Venkata’s missing ring! The ring had fallen below the blades of grass and was hidden from plain view.

Venkata was thrilled to have his ring back!

Gold Wedding Ring Found in Odessa, FL

Item recovered August 26, 2024. Chelsea reached out for help locating her ring after losing it during a water balloon fight in a field adjacent to a church. While helping as a camp counselor, Chelsea forgot to remove the ring and felt it fly off her hand as she was throwing water balloons. She had been back to the location to search, but didn’t have any luck locating the lost ring.

I arrived after work and waited for one of our classic Florida summertime thunderstorms to wind down before setting off into the field. Chelsea gave me the approximate area where she believed the ring was lost and I started a grid pattern in the area. 45 minutes later, there were some small metal items located, but no ring.

I changed directions by 90 degrees and went over the area a second time with no luck. About 90 minutes of searching and it was starting to get dark. I decided to expand the search area and continued until I hit a sweet sounding signal. It was the missing ring and Chelsea was overwhelmed with joy that her ring had been found!

The ring was located nearly 30-40 yards from where I was initially directed. It was a good lesson learned to never give up when at first you don’t succeed!

How to find your lost iPhone, Vancouver BC

I find things…That’s what I do! I was out detecting one night a few weeks back and I found an iPhone at low tide at 1 am. I put it away and it took me a week or so to get the little tool to open my sim card holder. This is a way I’ve learnt that I can find the persons phone number, when I put their SIM card into my iPhone I just go into settings, about this phone then I can find their number listed. I then take out the SIM card put mine back in and reach out to them. I’ve returned so many iPhones this way. I was happy that he called me back and we hooked up today and I gave back the young man’s phone, he was extremely happy and told me the story how it ended up in the ocean. A coworker threw it into the ocean… alcohol was involved lol… as I’m writing this story I received a text message from Adrian. He said when he got home and put it on the cordless charger, the phone worked… Amazing!
