Alaskan gold rush ring lost ,found.

  • from Brewer (Maine, United States)

Yesterday I received a call from John. He asked if I wanted to help him look for a very sentimental ring. He had lost the ring that morning. It was almost noon with plenty of daylight now the spring is almost here and I said absolutely!  I would love to! John provided me with an address and after making a quick sandwich I was on my way. He lived 51 miles from me so the trip was going to take approximately an hour.

On the way,  I called John to begin the questions I always try to ask people. When was the last time you definitely remember seeing the ring? He stated he put it on his finger this morning. Excellent! I said we know the time it was lost.  Have you been anywhere? He stated he’d only been in his yard so far today. John had been doing yardword with a tractor. He stated that the area was fairly small.

We then talked a little bit about the ring. John told me that his great, great (I’m not sure how many greats) grandfather was in the Alaskan gold Rush. This ring was made from Alaskan gold. The ring was passed down father to son ever since.

Once I arrived on site, we did a quick overview of the area that needed to be searched. I was a little concerned as the area was basically bare  as the grass had not really started to grow, therefore the ring should have been visible to the naked eye.  I told John this and said We were mostly looking for places that could hide the ring.

I detected the back area of the house, the side of the house where John had been. Then we moved towards a shed where John had moved some Lumber. I asked him to just make his way to the shed as he did that morning as best as he could recollect. I was detecting behind him. He sat down on a ramp and was watching me as I was working towards him. I thought again the ground is really kind of open here and a ring should be very visible, especially given the size As he described it. I noticed the ramp he was sitting on had a sizable pile of leaves beside it. I asked him …did you sit there this morning? He said yes.  I said the ring is gonna be in the leaves. I know it. As I was making my way to him and the leaves I received The sound I was waiting for. A large double signal. I looked Down and I could see nothing. I swung the metal detector again got the same signal and looked once again , still, I could see nothing. I thought to myself it must be just under the surface. I bent down as I was reaching for my pin pointer. There was the ring invisible in plain sight. John and his wife were quite surprised. He said that they had searched that area 10 times! However, The way the ring was sitting amongst the little bit of leaf debris.  It was there. It was really invisible until you saw it. John and his wife were happy and relieved to be sure!!
I was happy to be a part of a sentimental ring recovery.

of note: I would encourage anyone Who has lost a ring or jewelry in an outdoor environment to contact a Ring Finder in their area. The sooner the contact the better the chances of finding the ring. However, Rings can be found that have been lost for years.

I received a text message just before midnight in regards to a lost gold cross at Jericho Beach. I didn’t see this till early morning and reached out to Nick who called me back. He told me his gold chain was still on his neck but his cross was missing. It turned out to be a small and thin gold cross and the area Nick put me in was pretty big and I knew this was gonna be a tough search.

Well I was right I started out with the Deus 2 and after 3 1/2 hours and no luck I took a brake, had dinner, and went back to work with the Garrett AT Gold with the snipper coil and after 2 hours I found it !

It was a hard search with lots of junk targets but low and slow I found his beautiful gold cross that was a gift from his grandmother.

I Love My Job!!

On April 28th. 2026 I received a call from a very nice lady named Paula. She had lost her beloved 14K gold brooch on Sunday, April 26th, most likely at her church. The brooch was the most sentimental item that she had received from her late husband, so to her it was priceless. Paula had already alerted the church staff to be on the lookout for her brooch inside the church buildings.

I met with Paula at her church about one hour after receiving her call. She showed me the route that she walked from the entry doors of the church to where she had been parked. I found a gold earring along the path, concealed in the grass, but not Paula’s brooch. Paula turned the earring into the lost and found in the church reception area. Paula asked me help her look inside the church, just to get a fresh pair of eyes to visually search the floors. No luck inside the church.

Once outside, Paula asked if I’d follow her to her friend’s house a few minutes drive away so I could use my metal detector along the path to her friend’s front door. I agreed to the search at her friend’s house, but asked if I could search her vehicle first. She assured me that she had searched her vehicle thoroughly and did not find the brooch. Using my digital borescope I searched under and around the driver’s seat and located Paula’s brooch tucked away, completely hidden from the naked eye. I showed her the screen with the live image of her brooch and she cried tears of joy. When I handed Paula her beautiful brooch she gave me the biggest hug and said, “You made my day! No, I take that back. You made my whole year!” It’s a wonderful feeling to re-unite nice people like Paula with their treasures that they thought were gone forever.

Joe was walking along the outside of the golf course pickup up trash and stray balls. He had his phone in his shirt pocket.  When he got back home it wasn’t there. His wife and him walked the area four times looking for it with no success.  Later that day they were supposed to get upgraded phones with a trade in. Yep that meant that the lost phone now couldn’t be called and tracking it with an app was now impossible.  My son and I along with Joe set out to find it. The more eyes the better and 2 metal detectors also. Rest is history.  Always a pleasure to meet new people and put smiles back on people’s faces.

Lost Key Fob Recovered on Surf City Beach, LBI by Edward Trapper – NJ Ring by Finder”

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

Edward Trapper NJ ring Finder recovering lost fob on LBI

I was contacted by Brian regarding a lost key fob somewhere on a local beach. His daughter had been out the previous night walking along the shoreline, enjoying the full moon, when the key fob unknowingly fell from her purse.

The search area was quite large since she had covered a significant distance during her walk. Upon arrival, I began in the most probable drop zone but didn’t receive any signals.

I expanded the search northbound for approximately one block, attempting to follow what appeared to be her footprints, but still no luck. I then returned to the original area and searched closer to the waterline—again with no success.

Re-evaluating the situation, I decided to follow another set of tracks heading south that seemed consistent with her path. Roughly 50 feet into that direction, I received a strong signal. One scoop later, the lost key fob was recovered.

As is often the case, the item was located in the last area searched—but persistence paid off.

The key fob was successfully returned, and another client was relieved to have their property back.

This search wasn’t called for it was just by chance that I walked into the mall at Metrotown in Burnaby and spotted a change purse on the floor. I saw this about 30 feet away people walking by it almost stepping on it I picked it up, looked inside and there was over $300 in cash. I didn’t find any driver’s ID, but fortunately there was a piece of paper folded up with the ladies contact info and phone number.

She looked to be a senior citizen, and I could only imagine how much that must’ve hurt losing that change purse with all that money in it, I phoned her, and as you could imagine she was very excited to get the call.

She had already left the mall and was home but was on her way back to meet me with her son, they were there within 15 minutes and her son gave me a $50 gift card for Starbucks… Amazing! she was such a nice lady and very very grateful that she got her money back.

Sometimes we just get lucky to be at the right place at the right time, I’ve always said I love my job and I do!!  I just love helping people.
