Lost Gold Wedding Band at Kokololio Beach Park……FOUND

I saw a craigslist post of a lost ring at Kokololio Beach Park and replied to it offering ring finder services. Kristina responded by email the next morning and asked how I could find her husband’s ring that she had lost while holding it for him while he took a swim in the ocean. I told her to read my blog then if she was comfortable give me a call and I’d make arrangements to look. Kristina called and was anxious to find her husband’s ring so I talked my wife Wendy into going and told her we could go get prime rib afterwards as it was our 22nd Anniversary. As usual she was cool about it and off we went. We met Kristina at the beach parking lot and she walked me over to the area where she last knew she had the ring. When we arrived on the spot my worst fears came to light the area was littered with bottle caps and other metal trash. We picked up a few pieces of trash on the surface and then I started my grid search. First target brass grommet, second target aluminum tent peg third target BINGO a gorgeous interwoven patterned Gold ring. It took all of about 90 seconds. They’re not always this easy but I got to leave early for that Anniversary dinner and Kristina was elated to have her husband’s ring back. She went on to tell me that everyone else told her a metal detectorist would never find it. Well she held her head high and went off to show them the results with the biggest smile she could make. Lost platinum eternity ring found in Centennial, Colorado

Kathleen was out planting flowers in the yard of their home in Centennial, Colorado. While shaking open a garbage bag to put old, dead plants in her 3 ring platinum eternity ring slid off her hand. Kathleen had seen people searching with metal detectors in the past and knew that the newer machines would be expensive to purchase and complex to understand. And that rental machines may not be good enough to get the achieve success and with no knowledge of how to set up a detector. So Kathleen decided to find an expert detectorist and ended up calling me through TheRingFinders.

I was out at a wine tasting when Kathleen called and I did not hear my phone ring so she left me a message. Upon seeing I had a message I returned her call. We talked for a bit and set up a search for the following morning.

After arriving at their house Kathleen and Michael (Kathleen’s husband) led me to the location where Kathleen was working. We discussed the possibilities of the rings hiding place and I began my search. After searching the area in front of where Kathleen was standing a twice with no success I started searching behind where she was standing. My MXT gave out a faint signal (my sensitivity was turned down due to edging and pipes in the area and the plantings were deep). I pulled back the plantings and there sat Kathleen’s rings. She was quite happy to get her prized rings back.

Lost Key at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found.

I was sitting in my recliner after dinner this evening, watching one of my new surfing videos when I received a call from Nate. He was asking if I would be able to help him find a key that was lost on the beach. I let him know that it was possible if he could get me in the general vicinity of the loss. I was about 30 minutes out, but that city was having a festival at the beach, so I knew it would take a bit longer to reach the destination because of parking. This beach is cleaned daily, and the county does a very good job. It was important to look tonight. I made sure it was going to be alright with Nate. He gave me the go ahead, so I packed my gear and headed his way.

When I got there, Nate met me with his friends Jill and Libby (who also is a news anchor for a local radio station). We went to the area where they said the key was lost, and I could see the sand had been moved around a lot from their searching. They told me they had been looking for a while for that lost key, were feeling a bit discouraged, and were thinking about a locksmith. The key was for a house that their friend had let them use, as they had come down from Seattle for a vacation.

It was now dark, so I put on my head lamp, and gave a flashlight to the group to help them see. I began my search in the area they pointed out, and set a tight grid. I went back and forth for about 10 minutes, without hearing a sound. Normally the detector will find foil, pull tabs, bottle caps, and even coins, but here there was nothing, the beach was clean, to the point I was about to swing the detector over my scoop to make sure it was working. Right then I got a signal, and it was a good one, the only one. It was the key, and everyone was happy with handshakes, hugs, and high-fives. I am glad they called me out tonight, because I knew if we had waited another day, the key would have been picked up by the county beach cleaners, and never have been found. what great happiness, and smiles to go around.

ANOTHER Lost Wedding Ring Recovered In Fort Meade, Maryland!

I’m starting to think that Union Civil War General George Meade was not fond of jewelry and his ghost may be playing a role in the amount of lost rings at the Maryland fort that is named in his honor! A few weeks ago I received a call from Dina telling me how her husband lost his wedding ring in their back yard about a year prior. They we certain it was lost back there and because of that I felt confident that I could find it. I’ll let Dina tell the rest of the story in her own words…..

A year ago my hubby lost his wedding ring of 11 years the same week that he was scheduled to ship out to South Korea for a year long Army deployment. He was jumping on our backyard trampoline with our two children when he felt the ring fly off. He had lost some weight since we were married and I had been telling him to get it resized; not that I’m saying I TOLD HIM SO or anything of the kind. The four of us searched the perimeter to no avail. We brought out the child’s metal detector that we already had but it dinged on everything on the ground.
Seven months and many rainy and frigid days later, I gave up on ever finding it and bought him a new ring for Christmas. He wasn’t entirely thrilled with it; he was still attached to the original ring because I had had it engraved inside with a surprise « inside joke » phrase between us.
This April, the year in Korea was finally coming to an end and I figured I’d call in a professional as a last ditch effort before we moved away from Fort Meade the following month. My husband scoffed at the idea of Ringfinders locating his lost band, but I called Jim Wagner. I was immediately impressed at how professional and thorough he was on the phone with his questions and comments. The day he arrived I wasn’t expecting him to find anything, but he was confident and his efforts paid off in about 15 minutes! The ring was lodged in the mud close to the trampoline. My hubby was in such disbelief that he asked me to email him a photo as proof! We are so thankful to Jim for recovering something that had such great sentimental value to us.

White gold wedding band found in Denver’s Washington Park

I was attending the GPAA’s Gold and Treasure show when I received a call from Mike. He was in one of the local parks preparing to play volleyball when he decided to take off his white gold wedding band and place it into his pocket for safe keeping. After a few games and a few beers Mike decided it was time to walk home and reached for his wedding band. The ring was no longer in his pocket. His friends stopped playing and searched both courts that they played in and the area between them in earnest for his ring for several minutes. But they had no luck the ring was well hidden in the grass. After a quick internet search Mike found me  and left me a message on my cell phone. I noticed the message on my phone and called Mike back. I was only a 15 minute drive from the park and just happened to have a couple of detectors in my truck.

Upon my arrival Mike and I talked about the series of events that happened, he took me to the location where he had played. His friends were still there playing one last game of volleyball so the location of the hunt site was not in question. I searched the area between two courts that Mike had played on only recovering pull tabs. As his friends were taking down the final net I asked them to keep some sort of indications as to the net’s and sidelines locations. They left the court boundary line staked in the ground so I decided to run a couple of quick patterns along both sides of the net location. Within 15 feet of starting this pattern my V3i gave me a nice 13-14 reading and there was Mikes wedding band. I received a crushing group hug from Mikes friends and Mike was quite relieved to have his ring back.

I was contacted on Sunday by Wendell regarding his lost wedding ring. Wendell said he had been burning some debris on his property a few days ago when a small ember of hot ash had landed on his hand. Wendell said he felt the burning ember on his hand, and in an effort to dislodge it, he shook his hand aggressively. Wendell said he was pretty sure that’s when his wedding ring of 40 plus years went flying through the air.

I met Wendell at his property today in Southeast Houston to look for the missing ring. Wendell demonstrated how and were the event had occurred and outlined a specific area he believed the ring had landed.

We set out to find his ring, and after a few minutes of searching it was clear the ring was not in the described location. I began marking shallow targets (I use orange painted skewers) to identify previous examined spots, keeps me from looking at them again on the cross cut of the grid search.

I pushed the search out well beyond where Wendell believed his ring would be found, and in the opposite direction. A few minutes later, a good signal from the CTX3030 and the sight of a large yellow gold ring sitting under the search coil.

I was glad to see Wendell back in possession of his wedding ring of 40 years, I think his smile says the rest.

I was celebrating Mother’s Day at a local Chinese restaurant with my wife and her family when I got an urgent call from Scott. Apparently while he was enjoying the day swimming at Ko Olina lagoon #4 his Platinum Wedding ring fell off and disappeared in waist deep water. His attempt to locate the ring was futile as the sand in the lagoon is very loose and makes it impossible to find. I told Scott I could be there around 2 PM however he would need Ko Olina Security permission to metal detect in the lagoons as they are normally off limits to detecting. The Security Guard Nickolas was very helpful and actually reserved us some parking which was otherwise completely full. Scott on the other hand was very fortunate to remember exactly here the ring came off as the second leg of my box search nailed the ring. There were hugs and smiles all around. Aloha to Scott and his lovely wife.

Lost Texas A&M Class Ring Galveston, Texas (Recovered)

Lost Texas A&M Class Ring in Isla Del Sol boat channel Galveston, Texas (Recovered)

I received a call yesterday from Alfonso regarding his lost Texas A&M class ring. Alfonso said he was visiting some friends in the Isla Del Sol area of Galveston Island when he lost his ring. Alfonso said he hand his friends had been throwing spent crawfish shells into the boat channel behind his friends home.

Alfonso said he did not see the ring come of his hand, but knew he had it on, because his ring had been an item of discussion during the crawfish dinner. Alfonso said after cleaning up and throwing the shells into the channel he realized his class ring was missing.

After speaking with Alfonso he sent me a few photographs of the channel and bulk head behind the house. We made agreements to met today and search for his missing ring.

Alfonso was specific on the location where he believed the ring would have landed in the water, but after nearly an hour with no results we expanded the search area. After resetting out grid another 10 feet, the ring was recovered within a relatively short time.

I had set up one of my GoPro’s to record the recovery while I was in the water, but unfortunately the recovery took several hours and the camera couldn’t hang.

As with most of the boat channel’s in the Galveston area, there is a large amount of debris, some or most related to hurricane IKE which covered island with more than 10 foot of water.

The visibility was minimal (ZERO) and all targets were sifted blindly by hand, but make no mistake, when you grab a ring, you know it.

Lost Bracelet Found! Brewster, Cape Cod, MA

Sara had lost a very sentimental bracelet that she was given when a child. Sara had spent many hours looking for the piece of shiny gold and pearls with no luck. Later that night she found TheRingFinders on-line and contacted me.

Sara made my search very easy as she had written down her exact steps while cleaning wind driven debris from her yard. A two hour search with two different detectors yielded a pen, wire loop, and some usual trash. Within minutes of calling the search off for the day I went back to a pachysandra patch, turned my coil 90 degrees to the ground and heard a target. The bracelet was “hanging” from a leaf. This turned out to be the second time the bracelet had slipped form Sara’s wrist and had been found in two days; but not the last time to be “lost”.

I wanted to get a picture of the “hanging bracelet” but I had to go to my van to get my camera. Sara placed the bracelet back on the leaf and went to get her camera. We could not believe the fact we could see the hanging the bracelet. We both visually searched to no avail. I went back to the van, picked up my detector and headed back for another search. The first swing revealed the bracelet’s location. We both took pictures were taken and I was given a promise Sara would not wear the bracelet while doing yard work again.

Many moments of despair, joy, and laughter filled my two hours of being with Sara and searching for a precious piece of her life. The best for me was bringing smiles to Sara and receiving a Thank You from a wonderful lady.

This is an excerpt from one of the correspondences from Kelly regarding the lost ring:

To recap…. The ring is a family heirloom passed down several generations and my eldest son (Ryan) was wearing it for his Rehearsal Dinner Thursday evening, prior to his Friday wedding.  It is a gold Knights of Columbus ring.

We were winding up a late-night Canal Cruise when the boys decided to engage in a bit of horse-play – toppling Ryan overboard.  The ring came off his hand immediately upon entry to the water.

Thank you so much for offering us some hope in what we felt was a despairing situation.

After having received some very specific information and photographs from Kelly, I knew we would need some form of underwater grid to conduct an effective search. Knowing what the water visibility is like in most of the coastal canals, (zero visibility} some form of a reference is a necessity to stay on course underwater.

I am going to limit the text version of this story, as most of it was recorded an discussed on the videos attached to this post.

A few things not mentioned in the video was the water temperature was 72 degree and a after and hour and a half, I was pretty much at the end of my rope. You know when the cold is getting the better of you, light headedness and nausea seems to be the message .

We moved the newly named structure (Kelly Grid) to it’s third location, and I think everyone’s hopes of a recovery had started to diminish.

I started out on my final pass with a little less the 700 psi in the tank, knowing this one would have to be a quick run as air and time was running out. After having removed several aluminum cans, nail, and other trash on the previous runs, I hit a new and unique signal on the final leg of the last run. I reached down into about 4 inches of mud, and new immediately I had found the ring.

I surfaced a few minutes later and saw Kelly standing on the bulkhead next to the entry/exit ladder. I swam over informing her I was out of air, and tried to think of a way to surprise her on the recovery, but I was just simply to tired.

I held up the ring and the rest is history.
