Lost Key Fob .. Seal Beach, CA. .. Found in Rabbit Hole

When Peter parked his car in a Seal Beach city parking lot to go surfing, he thought he could hide his electronic key fob under some loose dirt in the planter next to his car.
When he finished surfing, he went to retrieve his key fob and there was a freshly dug hole and no key to be found. He believed that it was a rabbit or some kind of rodent responsible for taking his key.
Peter called requesting my help. He couldn’t meet me but gave good directions which put me exactly to the scene of the mysterious disappearance of a $500 key.
It was not a location that I could use my larger metal detector so I started with my handheld pinpointer. My first thought was that a dog may have dug out a gopher hole possibly throwing the fob into the surrounding plants or landscaping.
Returning to check the hole, I dug down another foot where there were three separate holes. I was about to give up but probed into each hole with my Garrett carrot pinpointer. I got a signal but figured it had to be a water pipe. It just seemed impossible for the key fob to be 16 inches deep.
I just had to see what it was. Yes! It was the missing key fob.. I called Peter to give him the good news and he met me the next day. I still can’t believe this story

Diamond Wedding Ring Lost in Sand .. Dockweiler State Beach, CA. .. Found

Lucy and her husband Jason were at Dockweiler State Beach spending a few days in the RV park with their daughter and son.  The day before contacting me Lucy had put her white gold diamond wedding ring in her back pocket. The same pocket that she keeps her IPhone.

Several times during their day on the beach Lucy had pulled her phone from her pocket to take photos. She told me that she had been in shallow surf and on the dry sand from the RV parking area to the water (towel line).

One problem was they had to check out of the park by noon. I was able to meet them just before check out time so she could show me the large search area. I also noticed that the beach rake had groomed a lot of the zone. I got a good reading of what could be at least a two hour grid search. We were confident that the ring had been dropped in the sand.

I explained that this would be time consuming and I had to help they lady in Marina Del Rey first as it should be an easy search. They were understanding and decided to wait in the day parking lot.

Returning in less than an hour, I went directly to the top of the dry sand. I picked an area at random that looked likely to start my process of elimination. Within 15 minutes the beautiful diamond wedding ring was in my scoop. Amazing, considering the huge area and the possibility the rake machine could have dragged it down the beach.
I called Lucy and Jason with the good news. They had just parked their RV and were walking out to meet me. Everything worked out well and there were plenty of smiles and hugs. Plus they could drive home before the LA traffic got congested.

Unique Gold Ring Lost in Sand .. Marina Del Rey, CA. .. Found

Claire called me as I was driving to another lost ring call at Dockwieler State Beach. She said that her daughter had lost a gold ring that was a duplicate to her ring. It actually had her mother’s ashes embedded in the setting. Her daughter was devastated at the loss which occurred the night before while she was swinging her arms standing on the dry sand at the beach.
They knew the general area and a beachfront resident was keeping watching over the location. I told her that another person was waiting to meet me.

I was able to reschedule the search for the ring at Dockwieler State Beach as it was a large search area.
I went to meet Claire at Marina Del Rey Penensula. We walked about a block down the beach walk where we could see that the beach rake had made one pass very close to the location of the loss.
I set up to do a grid search. As I was swinging my detector on my first line, I saw a glimmer of yellow gold in the sand. It at the top of a small mound caused by the tires of the tractor or rake machine. The tires actually pushed the ring to the surface.

It was an easy search because Claire’s daughter felt the ring fly from her fingers and her mother was able show me a general location. Claire was very excited and immediately called her daughter, Scarlett to give her the good news.

Lost Wedding Ring in Sand .. Newport Dunes Resort, Newport Beach, CA. .. Recoverd and Returned

I had been out on my local beach which is almost my backyard. As I was putting up my metal detector after practicing with a new high frequency search coil, Armando called requesting help to find his wedding ring. He lost it throwing a football in the sand at the beach.
I was available and it sounded like an easy search if they were still at the location. I’m located in Newport Beach on the coast centered between more than 200 miles of beaches, so my first question was, what beach?
When Armando told me he was at Newport Dunes, I was so surprised I almost dropped my phone. That is where I live and he was just a block away from where live.
I jumped on my Segway, meeting Armando and his wife Brianna in record time. They showed me the area which was easy to identify because of the finger marks in the sand and some sifting tools they used in search for the ring. Beginning my grid search, the first pass was about 15 ft. Half way back on the second pass, next to a sifting basket, I was able to get a great signal that was Armando’s tungsten carbide wedding ring. It would have been terrible to lose this as they have only been 4 months.
Total time from the phone call was less that 15 minutes. I wish they could all be that easy.

Wedding Ring Lost in Panorama City, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I received a call from Joe this morning explaining how he had lost his wedding ring while washing his car yesterday, hoping I would be available to help him. He told me that the grass was  very deep, and to find the ring in that thatch was not something he was able to do. We arranged to meet at his house at 12:30 PM to conduct the search.

When I arrived I could see that the grass was deep, and definitely a good set up for my AT Pro with the 5×8 coil. A few passes around the area of the wash, with no ring, then time to move out. I was only working the edges Joe had shown me, ready to expand into the main lawn are if necessary, when I received a great hit in the head phones. I grabbed my Pro Pointer AT, stuck it in the grass, and pulled out Joe’s ring. I was able to hand him back his token of commitment which he wasn’t sure would be found again. His wife Sarah came out excited that the ring had been found. That is when I found out they had just been married 6 months ago. So precious is the ring with such a fresh memory, what a great day!

Intertwined Platinum and Gold Wedding Ring Lost at Zuma Malibu Beach, CA…Found and Returned.

While out detecting today I received a call from Ian who told me how he had lost his wedding ring after surfing yesterday, and wanted help in finding it. I arranged to meet his employee Dave in about 1 1/2 hours because of Los Angeles traffic. Ian and Dave had been surfing yesterday, but before they entered the water Ian realized he still had his ring on, so prudentially he removed it and put in his tight fitting wetsuit and went into the water. After a good session of gliding on the water, he got back to the car, and proceeded to take off the wetsuit forgetting for a moment that the ring was there. It didn’t take long for him to realize that it had disappeared into the beach sands.

Well I met Dave at the appointed spot, and he showed me where they thought it might have fallen. I then got to work, finding bottle caps and other pieces of metal. It took about 10 minutes, and then there was that sound I was expecting. Dave had done well to put me in the right spot, which saved time in the search. he told me that Ian had been distraught over the loss, so I knew there would be joy in his house tonight, and sweet sleep. So happy to be of service, and to supply joy to those who have lost the things that mean so much.

Platinum Wedding Band Lost in Park in Santa Monica, CA…Found and Returned.

I received a call from Jessica Sunday afternoon regarding her husband’s ring that came off while he was pushing their son on the swings at their local park. I told her that I would be happy to help, so we made arrangements. She sent me the address of the park, and I made my way over.

When I got there, Jessica’s husband Joshua, and their son met me, and showed me the area of the loss. He showed me where he was standing, and where he thought the ring may have landed. He said they had looked for it, and resolved that it just might be gone for good. I could see the drag marks in the sand from their previous search. I was standing back about 10 feet from that area when I turned my machine on. I lifted it up, moved the coil, and heard that unmistakable sound in my head phones, put my scoop in, and showed Joshua his ring in the bottom of my scoop; about 10 seconds in all. I was almost standing on top of it as we were discussing the loss. Needless to say he was amazed, and so grateful to have his ring back. It is so awesome to be able to be that person to hand back to someone like Joshua, something so sentimental that he thought was lost for good. Another great day.

Newlywed Wedding Ring Lost at Newport Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

A week ago Saturday, the 22nd, I had fallen asleep in my chair in the living room, I woke up close to 2:00 AM, and went to the kitchen to get a drink of water before going to bed, when I saw that I had received an email from Mary regarding her husband’s lost ring on my phone. I checked the email, and saw that I had received it just minutes before at 1:51 AM, so I responded immediately. She responded right back and said it might have been lost in the water probably when they were playing with the football, so I checked the tide chart to see when the next lowest tide would be, which would be the next afternoon. I also told her that I was headed to bed, and asked if she would give me a call. Mary responded back, that I could call her, which I did in the morning to get all the specifics. Mary related to me that she and her husband had only been married 4 months, so I could tell this recovery was special. She also said it would be difficult for her to meet me there because of the distance to the beach from her home. She did the next best thing by providing me photographs from satellites that helped me narrow down the area, so with the pictures and her interview, I waited until the tide started to drop the next day, and made my way to the beach.

When I got there, the beach was starting to fill in with people, so I got started, working in and out of the water, waiting for children to play, and then moving forward, waiting for people walking by, and then moving forward, making sure I covered every inch, as much as possible. Targets were few. I was not finding too much, and after about 2 hours started to get a bit discouraged myself, as I saw the beach getting more crowded, and the tide starting to come back in. Then on the outer edge of the search area, I found a set of USMC dog tags (which I will be sending back to the DOD) wherein I started to feel like I just might find the ring. About 1/2 hour later I got a good signal in the head phones, dug, and it was the ring, this made my day.

As soon as I was able I sent a photo of the ring to Mary, and she was surprised, but very happy. We decided to meet today, a week later for the return because of her schedule. She was willing to drive to me to receive the ring, but  I decided to drive out towards her direction to make the return easier for her, because a round trip for her to me would have been almost 400 miles. When we met, and she saw me coming with her husband’s ring, she seemed a bit overcome with emotion, but instantly happy. It is a beautiful thing to see the joy a return of those items such as wedding rings bring to those who have them returned. One look at the picture above, and you see joy that is not manufactured, that’s what this is all about!

We were looking forward to spending a day at the beach and had a great time there. However, after driving 3 hours home, my husband realized his ring was missing. Wedding Ring Found in Huntington Beach

On August 9, 2016 Amy had posted that she had lost her wedding ring three days prior on a Facebook Community Forum I belong too. I immediately reached out to her and told her I could help her find the ring. She told me the diamonds were her Husbands Grandmothers and they had them set into a new custom made ring. We arranged to meet at the beach where she removed the ring to apply sunscreen. Luckily she had a good recollection of the area they were sitting. After about 30 minutes of grid searching I found her sentimental ring. Amy was so thankful, she contacted me the next weekend and invited me out for dinner with her family.

Lost IPhone at Santa Monica Beach, CA…Found and Returned.

Clark called late afternoon yesterday saying that he had lost a cell phone at the beach, and was wondering if I could help. I was not able to go immediately, but let him know that I could go later. He decided to continue his search, and I offered some tips on how do the search himself. When I was able to go, I had not heard back from Clark, and thought they must have found the phone, but decided to call and check anyway. I was surprised, they did not find it, but I was hoping they would have called back. I asked him if they were still at the beach, and he said no, they had gone home, which was about 2 hours away. I then offered to still go and do the search, it was about 7:15 PM, so Clark gave me very good directions to the area they believed the loss occurred, in and around some swing-sets.

I got to the area about 8:30 PM, and was immediately discouraged, because the swings were full of young people enjoying themselves, and I wondered if I would get a chance to work the spot. People started to leave which gave me my opportunity. It took about 15 to 20 minutes for me to located the phone. I sent Clark a text that I had found the phone, and he asked for a photo of it to be sure. When he realized it was the phone he asked to meet and get it that night. I realized it must have some important information; maybe some medical information, or serious business contacts, I just did not know, so I told him no problem, whatever it was going to take. It was going to take almost 2 hours for them to meet with me, so I chose a coffee shop, and said I would wait for him there.

When Clark arrived, his girlfriend Aimee was with him, and it turned out that it was her phone. What a great guy Clark is to have coordinated all of this for his girlfriend. Also the importance of the phone was severe, because Aimee had an college exam on Monday, and all the information needed to study and take the exam was on that phone. I can’t think of a more stressful situation for a young person than that. I was sure happy to unite her with her phone, and make her day.
