Moona and her mother decided to take a day trip to Maryland’s Eastern Shore, crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and heading over to Kent Island. They found a small beach where they settled down on the sand, relaxed together, and eventually went down to the shoreline to put their feet in the water.

It was while they were getting their feet wet that Moona suddenly realized something was terribly wrong—she was no longer wearing her beautiful platinum diamond wedding band, a custom piece of jewelry featuring multiple marquise-shaped diamonds across the top of the band.

Earlier, Moona had taken the ring off before washing her hands in a bathroom not far from the beach. She remembered placing the ring in her shirt pocket and thought she had put it back on afterward. Unfortunately, that was all she could clearly remember.

At one point while sitting on the beach, Moona had reached into that same pocket to pull out her key fob. She vaguely remembered thinking that something might have fallen into the sand when she removed the keys, but at the time, she didn’t give it much thought.

Now, after realizing that the ring was not on her finger and checking her shirt pocket only to discover that it was empty, Moona and her mother began to suspect that her precious wedding band had slipped out of the pocket and disappeared somewhere in the sand.

Four Hours of Searching With No Ring

The two women searched the beach for more than four hours, desperately hoping to find Moona’s irreplaceable keepsake. Sadly, despite all of their efforts, there was no sign of the ring.

For Moona, what was supposed to be a peaceful day with her mother had turned into one of the worst days imaginable. She had already been dealing with some serious challenges earlier that day and had hoped that spending time with her mother on Maryland’s Eastern Shore would help her relax and get away from some of the stress she was experiencing.

Instead, losing her treasured wedding ring only added to it.

Eventually, the two had no choice but to give up their search. Before leaving, however, Moona’s mother did something that would prove to be extremely helpful: she placed a short log in the sand to mark the approximate location where they believed the ring may have fallen from Moona’s pocket.

Finding THE RING FINDERS

Later that evening, Moona went online looking for someone who could help find her lost wedding ring. That search led her to THE RING FINDERS, an international directory of metal detectorists specializing in lost jewelry recovery.

She searched for a nearby ring finder, found me, and before long we were talking on the phone about the disappearance of her platinum diamond wedding band.

I spent some time talking with Moona and gathering as many details as possible about what had happened, where she had been sitting, what she had done with the ring, and where she believed it might have been lost.

Within a few hours, we were ready to plan the search.

An Early-Morning Ring Rescue on Kent Island

The next morning, I headed across the Chesapeake Bay toward the beach on Kent Island. I had been to this particular area many times before to help people recover lost items, and I was happy to return once again—this time to help Moona and her husband, Matthew, recover this very special piece of jewelry.

I considered this search more than simply a recovery effort. To me, it was also a rescue mission.

There is a metal detecting club not far from this particular beach, and I knew that other detectorists regularly search the area looking for lost coins and jewelry. If another treasure hunter found Moona’s ring before I did, there was always the possibility that her beautiful wedding band might never make it back to her.

Time mattered.

So, early that morning, I loaded my metal detecting equipment into the car and headed for Kent Island.

Platinum and Diamonds Found Nearly Five Inches Beneath the Sand!

When I arrived at the beach, I immediately looked for the marker Moona’s mother had left behind. Sure enough, I spotted the small log in the sand marking the approximate area where they believed the ring had fallen from Moona’s shirt pocket.

That simple marker was extremely helpful.

I began metal detecting the area, and I am thrilled to share that it did not take long before I recovered Moona’s gorgeous platinum and diamond wedding band!

Surprisingly, the ring was buried nearly five inches beneath the sand.

At first, that might seem unusually deep for a ring that had only recently been lost. However, Moona and her mother had spent hours searching, digging, kicking, and moving sand around the area. All of that activity had apparently caused the precious piece of jewelry to become buried much deeper than where it had originally landed.

No wonder they couldn’t find it!

A Very Special Ring Returned to Moona

I was absolutely elated for Moona and Matthew! I couldn’t wait to surprise them with the wonderful news that the ring had been found.

Most importantly, I had gotten to the beach early enough to rescue the ring before another metal detectorist had an opportunity to find it and possibly take it home. Had that happened, Moona’s custom wedding band might have been gone forever.

Several days later, I met up with this special couple and had the privilege of placing Moona’s beautiful platinum and diamond wedding band back into the hands where it belonged.

Moona and Matthew were incredibly grateful for my metal detecting and ring recovery services, as well as for THE RING FINDERS, the international directory of lost-ring recovery specialists that helped connect them with me.

What began as an extremely stressful and heartbreaking loss on a little beach along the Chesapeake Bay ended with a beautiful platinum and diamond wedding ring safely returned to its owner!
