Zach was covering his barbecue grill after enjoying a satisfying meal with his wife and friends. As he pulled the cover over the grill, he suddenly felt something leave his finger. A moment later, he heard a sound as if something had fallen onto the deck.

He looked down at his hand and immediately realized that his platinum wedding band was gone!

Zach carefully searched the deck, looking between and around the deck boards, but there was no ring to be found. Somewhere during those few seconds, his sentimental and irreplaceable wedding band had disappeared.

Determined to find it, Zach rented a metal detector and spent an hour or so searching the backyard. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, his search did not lead to the recovery of his lost wedding band.

Eventually, Zach went online looking for professional help and found me—The Ring Hero! He located my information through THE RING FINDERS, an international directory of professional metal detectorists. Before long, we were talking on the phone and making plans for me to travel to Zach’s residence in Annapolis, Maryland.

A couple of days later, I arrived at Zach’s home and began metal detecting the backyard. Knowing that he had felt the ring leave his finger while covering the grill gave me an excellent starting point for the search.

It wasn’t long before I found what Zach had been desperately hoping to see again—his platinum wedding band!

The ring was hiding in the grass just a few feet from the deck above. I was so happy to knock on Zach’s front door and present him with his very special and irreplaceable wedding band. He was blown away by how quickly I was able to locate it!

Like many people who have lost a valuable piece of jewelry, Zach discovered that renting a metal detector doesn’t always lead to success. Having the right equipment is only part of the equation. Experience, search techniques, understanding how lost objects travel, and knowing how to properly use a metal detector can make all the difference.

More often than not, hiring an experienced professional metal detectorist gives you the best opportunity to recover something that may otherwise remain lost.

I was especially glad that I could recover Zach’s wedding band before he and his wife moved away from the property. Because they were renting the home, Zach feared that once they moved, his wedding ring might be left behind forever.

Thankfully, that fear is gone now!
