Kevin contacted me about 12:00 midnight after having lost his wedding ring earlier in the day. When he told me where he lost it, I told him it would be best to go right away, because this area is detected like clockwork by other treasure hunters. He agreed, and we both rushed to the area.

We were there by about 12:30 AM. He got there just before me, and sent a text telling me that another detector was searching the area, and he would try to keep him from the spot. As I walked down I saw the other guy moving into the area where Kevin was standing, so I went right over. I let the other guy know why I was there, and he didn’t seem too happy as he kept searching the same area. We got to where we actually bumped coils a couple of times, but I kept to my search plan after Kevin showed me where to look. A couple more swings of the coil, a dip of the scoop, and I had Kevin’s ring which I promptly handed back to him, and then we both left the spot to the other guy. I know Kevin appreciated the fact that I was not afraid to stand my ground when it came to helping him, and I was glad to do it. He told me he had searched so hard earlier crawling on his hands and knees, that his knees had become raw, and was so surprised at how quickly the recovery was made. We made it by the skin of our teeth with just minutes to spare, and I was so happy to have made Kevin’s day.

I received a call from Michelle explaining how she had lost two rings in her yard the day before. She was asking if I would be able to help her in the search for them. I let her know I could come that day, but she had ordered a metal detector, and wanted to wait for that to come, so she could search herself. I let her know that when she was ready, I would be available to come and help her. She called me later, saying she decided to forgo the detector, and asked me to come the next day, so we scheduled a time.

When I arrived at her house, she met me at the side gate, and took me to the area of the loss. She also let me know that she had found one of the rings, and that I was going to be looking for the wedding band. The grass was real nice with a thick thatch which could hide any ring that fell into it. I turned my detector on and found a small grate. I continued on, and got a real low tone in the headphones, put in the pin pointer, and there was the ring. She was impressed that the search took so little time to complete, but I have some of the best detectors you can get, and I trust my equipment when I am searching. So happy to have made her day!

Michael called to see if I could help him find some buried stakes in his back yard. He had recently purchased his home, and was in the back yard with his girlfriend when she stepped on an old rusted stake that had been cut off just under the surface, rather than dug out, and it cut her foot up pretty bad. I let him know I could do the search, and we arranged a day for it.

I got to Michael’s house, and he lead me to where the first stake was found. It was partially dug up, and I reached to feel it, realizing it was as sharp as a razor. It was an old rusted fence stake that must have been hammered at least three feet into the ground. I realized that instead of digging them out the previous owner figured it would be much easier to just grind them off. Michael did not know if there were any more, but desperately wanted to know for the safety of anyone coming into his yard. After the search was complete, I had found 6 more dangerously sharp stakes to be removed. Needless to say, Michael was very relieved to know he could free his yard of these harmful objects.

Eva called saying she had lost two rings. She called immediately after realizing they were gone, and I let her know that I would come as soon as possible knowing that time is the enemy of a successful search.

When I got to the beach Eva said that she had not moved from the area where she believed the rings were lost, and I could see the search grid that she had already been made looking for them. I donned my equipment, and began my search, and it wasn’t long before I had one of her rings in the scoop. I knew the other wasn’t far away. A couple more swings of the detector, one more scoop of sand, and Eva’s second ring was found. She was very happy to have them back again. Her smile tells it all.

Two Rings Lost in Sand .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Two special rings given to Jessie by her late aunt were lost in the sand. I received an email just before midnight from Jessie.

Hi Stan! I stumbled across The Ring Finders this evening – I was at Newport Beach today and lost two rings that have great sentimental value. I wondered if you could tell me more about your service and if you are available!
I had taken the rings off because I was taking part in a cooking class for a work event and didn’t want them to get covered in raw chicken. I put them in the pocket of my apron and we ended up going to the beach to take a group photo with our aprons on – after the first photo I cast the apron aside, and the rest is history.
We were on Newport Beach this evening around 6:30 at the end of 49th street.
Thank you so much for any info you can provide,
Jessie

I couldn’t get a reply from her and it bothered me that the beach cleaning machine may get the rings before Jessie could talk to me. It’s less that 3 miles from where I live, so I took the above directions and drove to do a search. My plan was to grid search the first 40 feet from the towel line towards the beach front homes. The Beach King sifting machine normally does two or three passes along the towel line.
After about an hour I had confidence that the rings were not in beach sifting area. I could go home and wait for Jessie to call me with more definite directions. There was probably 150 yards of beach that the rings could be hiding, but they should be safe until I could talk to Jessie.
It was 1:30am as I walked off the beach, then I spotted finger drag marks on the dry sand. Set up a grid search and within 10 minutes I had Jessie’s two rings in my scoop.
Sent Jessie a email telling her I had found her rings and to call me so we could arrange at time and place to meet.. As it turned out I save her a trip from San Diego to Newport because I had another ring search the next day near where she lives. (Another coincident ? ). Jessie did give me some homemade brownies, a nice thank you card and a generous gratuity.
