Lost bracelet Leech Lake MN…Found 50 years later and returned to its owner.

  • from Twin Cities Metro (Minnesota, United States)

My family went up north Minnesota to a resort on Leech Lake. While there I decided to help out the owner and try to find some old mouring anchors. As I was scuba diving I found an old  bracelet. When I returned home, I got a chance to clean it up a bit and was able to read a name on the bracelet. Off to the the internet and only one person was found with this name and he was in Omaha Nebraska. I called and sure enough it was him. He is currently 68 years old and said he had lost the bracelet when he was in High School. His family used to go up to the resort and he was fishing off the dock and the bracelet fell off into the water. He said he searched but couldn’t find it. He was so happy as it brought back a lot of fond memories. I sendt it back to him and I hope it is a personal treasure that can be handed down in his family with a great story for the generations to come. Take care – Darrin

Little Falls Gold Wedding Band

  • from Twin Cities Metro (Minnesota, United States)

On 6/20/2010 I was contacted by a man who had lost his Gold Wedding Band in his yard while gardening. I drove up to Little Falls (about 2 hours) and found it in less then 5 minutes. He showed me exactly how the ring flew off his finger as he threw some weeds he was picking. Take Care!

Heirloom ring found in yard in Longmont, Colorado

  • from Denver (Colorado, United States)

Recently I was contacted by Sheila, who lives in Florida. In February, she came to Colorado to visit her friend Barri from Longmont. While Sheila was here in Colorado, we received several inches of new snow. Since she is from Florida and snow is a rarity, she went outside to play around in the snow, throwing some snow balls and such. Apparently while gathering snow the ring fell off her pinky finger (it is a small ring). When they noticed later that evening that her ring was missing they searched in earnest for it but without success. After that several other people had visually looked for the ring but they also ended their searches without success.

As background information, Sheila’s mother passed away in 1998 and her father then kept her ring for the next 10 years until he passed away in 2008. There was a small battle between the 10 children of the couple as to who would get their mother’s wedding band. Well, Sheila was the one who ended up with the cherished ring.

When I arrived at the house, Barri and I looked over pictures and watched a couple short videos that were taken the day the ring was lost. In one of the videos you can clearly see the ring on her figure. There was a short series of photos that were taken moments later and the ring was missing in the last photo.  Thus we knew exactly when the ring was lost.

I put my detector together and began my search. Within 10 minutes of starting I had found the ring. We called Sheila to tell her the good news. To say she was happy would be a HUGE understatement. She was crying, almost uncontrollably, for longer than it took to find the ring.

Lost Gold Pendent, Soccer Ball, Killarney High School, Vancouver

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Gold Saint Christopher

Today I had a search for a solid gold soccer ball pendent that a friend from work lost 5 years ago at a soccer field in South Vancouver.

The story was that it was given to him by his farther 30 years ago. Dean is a goal keeper and never takes his lucky pendent off. While training at Killarney High School 5 years ago, he was making a save and the chain broke and the pendent fell off into the grass but he felt the chain in his sweeter…

He was devastated! He searched for hours with a flash light as it was getting dark but couldn’t find his golden soccer ball. He gave up the search like most people do and tried to put it behind him.

It was Friday night and we were working on a film set and I saw his pendent and commented on the gold soccer ball. I used to play a bit back in the day, Dean told me the story about the one that he lost and how much it meant to him…

My first question was where did you lose it? He told me and I told him I’d take a look for it, today I spent 5 hours searching but couldn’t find it… However I found a Gold Saint Christopher pendent the size of a Canadian Quarter. Now I have to try and find the owner of that…

I believe that everyone’s jewellery has a story attached to it and what I do is try and find the owner and return it so that the story can continue…

I also met up with Dean at the end of the day and he showed me the area that he remembered losing the pendent. He drew me a map of the area at work, after 5 hours of searching I was in the wrong area! Oh well, I found the pendent and now I have a new search to see if I can find the owner. It was 4 inches deep in the ground so I believe this was there for many years.

I’ll be searching the new area for his golden soccer ball tomorrow. I hope I can find it so I can write a part 2!

I love my job!

If you have lost something and need it found please contact me!

I live within a 40 minute ride from the beaches of Leme, Copacabana, Arpoador, Ipanema and Leblon, which are all on the same shoreline.  The beaches of Barra da Tijuca, Recreio, Pontal, Prainha and Grumari are to the opposite side from where I live  and a little bit closer.

I have always lived close to the beach. I have 2 passions which are Surfing and Metal Detecting. I have been surfing since 1974 and metal detecting for at least a year and it has immediately become an addiction.  I have been metal detecting mostly between the beaches of Barra and Recreio where it usually gets less crowded.

The interesting thing is that the Hobby of metal detecting here in Rio de Janeiro is absolutely non existent. Most of the people do not know what a metal detector is. It is kind of funny people approaching and asking: “Sorry to bother you but……. Can you tell me what you are doing? Are you looking for something?”

On Monday, Carnival time, I went on a RING SEARCH.  A guy called me just after lunch and he wanted details about my ring search service. Well, everything settled, I met him at LEBLON beach……..it is a very famous beach that comes just after Copacabana and Ipanema……about 40 minutes drive from where I live. When I got there and met him he told me he could not pinpoint the exact location and he showed me what he thought his ring could be. I’d say it was a ten meter square piece of sand.  However, it is summer here and the beach was VERY crowded, and I thought to myself: Wow…. That’s gonna be tough……very hot sun, lots of people around…. After  searching for about an hour, the guy was already tired of watching me searching………..found all the usual trash, including lots of coins…not bad…. and he was ready to give up the search. I told him to have more patience and went on……..suddenly I found a very beautiful wedding band……white gold….big and beautiful. I asked him: Is this your band? His reaction was indescribable………he didn’t know what to do to show how grateful he was…..It was  pure pleasure to see his joy. We had settled for R$60,00 and he gave me R$90,00. He said I made him  and his wife VERY happy that day.

The interesting thing about that particular search is how people are willing to help. I mean, most of the people around the place where I was searching offered to move towels, chairs, umbrellas,  etc. so I could pass the metal detector where they were. Really nice and warm folks.

I would also like to say that I am very happy to take part in Chris Turner’s team of Ring Finders . I love my job!
