Diamond stud earring found in Denver back yard

  • from Denver (Colorado, United States)
Recently I recieved a frantic call from a lady stating that she had just lost one of her prized 1 carat diamond on yellow gold earrings while out playing with her daughter’s dog. We made arrangements for me to do the search that afternoon. Unfortunately, she used speech-to- text to send me her address and I ended up 20 miles out of the way. But eventually I managed to get to the proper address and she showed me the site of the loss. I set up my detector and began my search. After a couple of minutes of searching, I found the back of the earring so hopefully the earring was nearby. One swing later I got a solid but faint signal and when I parted the grass the diamond shown in the sweltering summer sun.
Lisa was pretty darn happy as she has worn these earrings every day for the past 30 plus years.

Heirloom ring found in Lakewood, Colorado

  • from Denver (Colorado, United States)
Last week Stephanie Hobbs received a message via The Ring Finders from Liana about her family heirloom ring that she lost while running to her car during a hailstorm that afternoon. Stephanie was working so ee made arrangements to do the search after she was done. We made it to the search location just a couple of hours after the storm ended to begin our search. There was mulch and mud on the roads and sidewalk from the down pour of rain and hail that had occurred. Liana took us through her route of travel and explained what she was doing when her ring went missing.
Stephanie and I began our search, each starting at opposite ends of the search area. After an hour of searching, we began to double check each other’s area and we had even searched her vehicle. We were close to giving up and I decided to check one last area that was not where she said she had been, but I had a feeling that it would be worth the one-minute search. Sure enough, as I was swinging my coil I happen to see an emerald stone and gold band sticking out of the mulch that had washed down during the storm. I shouted out that I found the ring. Liana couldn’t believe that I found it where I did as she hadn’t been near that area. I believe that the amount of water that had come down had washed the ring several feet down along the side of the sidewalk. Liana and I shared a few tears of joy.

Dorothy called me asking if I might be able to help find her husband Jim’s  bracelet that he lost while doing yard work. I headed over and we talked about his activities. As I headed back to my car to grab my metal detector, boom, out of the corner of my eye some irregular lines caught my attention.  No way! Yes, one of the quickest recoveries. This is exactly how we want them to end. Items back to owners and smiles on their faces. Always an honor. Dorothy, a writer signed and gave me one of her books. Kenyon was out on the lake enjoying the cool sand pit water with his wife of less then 2 months.  As we have seen before, the ring grew 2 sizes while in the water and slid right off. The group got on the internet and found me on the ring finders. He told me that it was most like over 6′ deep of water. Regardless I always pack my Blu3 Nomad dive system.  I ended up laying out a grid line on the lake bottom and with the Manticore dive boost volume on, powering the modified Tony Eisenhower headphones. This is the first time I did it but I also turned on the Manticore handle vibrate mode also. This made short work.

Always an honor to return such an irreplaceable item such as this. They were a blast to work with and I wish them many years together.

Man’s Gold Wedding Band Lost at High Tide, Found and Returned Holden Beach NC

  • from North Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, United States)

On August 14, 2026, just before 11 a.m., I was returning home from a successful ring find in Myrtle Beach when I received a text saying, “Hi Jim! Found your number on ring finders. My husband just lost his wedding ring while swimming in the ocean. We’re on the 500 block of Holden Beach and wondering if you might be able to help us out.” I already knew the tide was going out, so it depended on how deep her husband was swimming on whether to go then or wait for a lower tide. Since I was driving, I texted her to call me and sent my number. Kendall almost immediately called back and told me her husband, Jim was probably about chest deep when he lost it. I decided I’d give the tide a little more time to recede and told her I’d be there around 2.

I arrived at the address Kendall had given me and sent her a text at 2:05 p.m., saying “I’m here.” I met Kendall and Jim and as we’re walking out to the beach, Jim gave me additional information, including pointing out the suspected loss area. I asked him to show me the far end of where he thought he was and we started walking! During our walk, Jim told me he was holding his daughter’s hand and felt his ring come off. That little hint told me his ring wouldn’t be to his chest deep, which was good for me because he was taller than I was. We probably walked down the beach from where the family had set up to about 6-7 houses. This was going to be a large search area, but I was up for the task. I started an east/west grid search from the high tide line down to about waist deep in the ocean. I hadn’t gotten too far before I got a great signal and in the 16-18 range on the VDI (visual display indicator) that I was looking for on a man’s larger gold ring. I dug a couple of scoops of sand, spread it out on the beach and saw what I hoped was Jim’s gold ring. I walked back across the beach, ring in hand and saw Jim coming back on the beach from the house. I held the ring up and asked, “Yours?” A big smile showed up on his face when he inspected the engraving on the inside of the ring and confirmed it was his. Kendall came out shortly after and she too confirmed the engraving. All toll; it maybe took 25 minutes. Jim and Kendall walked me back to my car and I was on my way. Knowing I was leaving another couple extremely happy and relieved that they had their treasure back where it belongs.

Kendall and Jim – Thank you for calling me and letting me help find your lost ring.

Heirloom Man’s Yellow Gold Wedding Band dropped in the Surf, Found and Returned Myrtle Beach, SC.

  • from North Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, United States)

On August 14, 2026, just after 8:30 a.m., I received the following text, “Hi Jim. Saw your page online and we’re in need of your help. We’ve lost a gold wedding band in the surf in front of the Carolinian Resort. Let me know if you’re available. Thank you.” Before calling him, I did a quick check of the tide tables and saw that high tide was 9:16 a.m., I called and Brian answered the phone. He said that his daughter Seton and her friend had been out at the water’s edge around 8-8:15 am and her ring had slipped off her finger into ankle deep water. He also told me the ring was a yellow gold wedding band that had belonged to his father. I had a few things pending, so I told him I’d be there about 11 am. This would also allow the tide to recede a little and make recovery a little easier, I hoped!

At 11:05 a.m., I sent him a quick text telling him I was walking out on the beach. We met and I followed him over to where they had set up for the day which was in the area the ring was lost. He pointed out the area, somewhere between the lifeguard stand to where they were sitting. I turned on the Equinox 800 and started an east/west grid line from the bottom of the dry sand to about knee deep water. The sand was extremely mushy and soft and with each step I was sinking up to my ankles. Maybe my fourth or fifth line, I got a solid signal jumping from 13-15 on the machine’s VDI (visual display indicator). Those numbers tell me I’m either over a small man’s gold ring, a pull tab, nickel or bottle cap. The only way to make sure is to dig everything. I started pulling out full scoop loads of soft wet sand. With each scoop a wave would bring more wet sand in and fill the hole back up which also let the target settle more and sink deeper. I noticed that Brian and his wife Aimee were watching very intently and hoping for the best. I finally got the target out of the hole, spread the sand out with my foot and saw the gold ring shining in the sunlight. Boom! I picked it up, cleaned it off in the surf and turned around and held it up for Brian and Aimee to see. I could see the relief and joy in their faces. Brian called his daughter Seton and had her come down from the resort. I told Brian and Aimee, “let’s surprise her.” When Seton showed up, I asked her to explain exactly what happened. I’m standing beside her and a little behind her and as she’s talking, I hold up the ring. It took a few seconds for her to see and realize what she was looking at. Then it was a both hands to face reaction as she couldn’t believe her grandfather’s ring had been found. I love the true reactions I get from returning a treasure.

Brian, Aimee and Seton – Thank you for allowing and trusting me to find your very special treasure and getting it back where it belongs. Have a very safe trip home.

Jim

Lost gold wedding ring, recovered by metal detectorist, Birch Lake, Vandalia Michigan

  • from Granger (Indiana, United States)

Got a text from Dean, who said he had just lost his gold wedding band in Birch lake.
I was in Lake Michigan metal detecting when I got the voicemail on my watch. Packed up and headed over to Vandalia to search in the dark for his missing ring.
He said he noticed it was missing shortly after jumping off of a large floating foam mat to catch a ball, in about 5 feet of water. The bottom is clay muck with prickly weeds and the water clouds up instantly with any disturbance of the bottom. He and his buddies tried looking for the ring, even borrowing a small metal detector from a next door resident.
Got there, geared up(with headlamp), jumped in and it was the typical inland lake targets. Bottlecaps, fishing lure spinners, bullets, sinkers, sunglasses, pulltabs and Bugs, lot’s of Bugs! Eventually heard a nice sounding ring sized signal, scooped it up (very difficult scooping due to the prickly weeds on bottom) and could see a nice shiny gold ring in the scoop.
Dean was ecstatic and overwhelmed with happiness, mentioning that the diamonds in his ring were from his grandmother’s wedding ring, so very sentimental. Glad I was able to help!

🌊💍 Another Wedding Ring Recovered from Lake Conroe!

🌊💍 Another Wedding Ring Recovered from Lake Conroe!

With Texas temperatures soaring, there’s no better place to cool off than the water. Unfortunately, summer swimming can also be one of the easiest ways to lose a wedding ring.
I recently received a call from a Lake Conroe homeowner, Matthew, after his wedding ring slipped off while he was cooling off in approximately 6 to 8 feet of water behind his dock. The water offered zero visibility, making any chance of finding the ring by sight virtually impossible.
Before I arrived, he sent me a photo of his dock and the area where he believed the ring had entered the water—always a huge advantage when planning an underwater search.
When I arrived, I immediately noticed he was a proud University of Houston Cougar alumnus. During our conversation, we discovered he was also friends with my in-laws, who are fellow UH alumni. It’s amazing how often these recoveries remind me just how small the world really is!
Once underwater, the search became more challenging than expected. Hidden beneath the surface were remnants of older dock structures, with broken boards and sharp wood protruding from the sandy lake bottom. Zero visibility and underwater hazards always require patience, careful navigation, and a methodical search.
As often happens with underwater recoveries, the ring wasn’t exactly where it was expected to be. After expanding the search grid slightly beyond the estimated drop location, my detector produced the signal we were hoping for. A few moments later, the wedding ring was safely back where it belonged.
Every successful recovery is rewarding, but returning a wedding ring that represents years of memories is always something special.
Thank you for trusting Houston Metal Detecting Services with another successful underwater recovery!

🔥 109° Outside… The Perfect Recipe for Losing a Wedding Ring! 💍🐕

🔥 109° Outside… The Perfect Recipe for Losing a Wedding Ring! 💍🐕

Texas continues to bake under extreme heat warnings, and today’s recovery was no exception. As I drove to James’ home in Houston, my truck’s outside temperature read 109 degrees.
In weather like this, about the only thing that makes sense is water—and that’s exactly where this story begins.
James had been washing his dogs in the front yard, trying to cool them off while escaping the Texas heat himself. Unfortunately, when you combine extreme heat, cool water, and soap, wedding rings tend to disappear.
Later that day, James realized his wedding ring was no longer on his finger.
He spent a considerable amount of time searching through the thick Saint Augustine grass but quickly discovered just how difficult it is to find a gold ring hiding beneath that dense turf.
After an online search, James found Houston Metal Detecting Services, and we arranged to meet the following day.
The good news? James had done some excellent detective work and accurately identified where he believed the ring had been lost. Within just a few minutes of beginning the search, my detector gave a strong signal—and there it was!
💍 Another wedding ring successfully recovered and returned to its owner.
A quick reminder during these hot Texas summers: if you’re swimming, washing the car, watering the yard, or even giving your dogs a bath, remember that heat, cold water, and soap can cause your fingers to shrink just enough for a ring to slip off without you noticing.
If you’ve lost a wedding ring, class ring, necklace, bracelet, keys, or another valuable metal item, don’t give up hope. Professional equipment and experience often make all the difference.
