When Jackie called me it was already about 8:00 PM. She had been at the beach, and lost 3 diamond rings to the beach sand. I asked if she could wait, even though it might take a while for me to get there, telling her that if the rings were there I would find them. I needed her to be able to show me the area of the loss. She said they could, and would be there when I arrived. I was on my way.

I got to the beach, and access to the beach where Jackie and her family was closed, so she sent me a car to pick me up and take me to where they had been during the day. When I got there it was nice to see how everyone had waited for her. They took me out to where they believed the loss occurred, and I could see where they had searched quite a large area. I knew I needed to narrow down the search a bit, so I asked Jackie where she had been most of the time, and started just outside of that area, working my way in. Jackie stood where thought she had been, and remained there as I searched. I found a few of the normal trash metal that is usually on the beach, pass after pass, and then right in front of Jackie I got a real nice signal. I put the scoop in and out came her engagement ring, one down. I worked in that area a couple swings more, and scooped up another ring, two down. A couple more swings, and Jackie was holding all of the rings she lost. Needless to say she was very happy, and it was an end to a great day!

I received a call from Ashley about losing her diamond engagement ring in the sand at the beach. She and some friends had set up their beach tents and towels, she had removed her rings and set them on her towel. Not long after, the lifeguard told them they would have to move their belongings because they were in the area that was used for the emergency vehicles to drive through. During the move Ashley flipped her towel, and one of the rings landed in her bag, but he engagement ring was gone. I let her know I would be there as soon as possible.

When I met up with Ashley she showed me what had happened, and the complete area where the loss was possible. I began my search finding the usual trash metal that is normally found during a search. I went over the complete area, yet did not find the ring. There was the possibility that it was lost in the area where they had moved to, but they would not be able to move their belonging for a while because her friends had small infant children that needed to be kept from the sun, so I sat down and waited until they were leaving so I could search that area as well. Not being able to find the ring there, I decided to cross grid the area in case the ring was turned in a unique way making it hard for the detector to see it, and I expanded the search area. Ashley had to leave, but I told her I would continue the search until I had exhausted every possibility. I continued for another 25 minutes going out of the box when I got the slightest signal from what I believe was a parachuted ring (hanging with gem on top, and ring straight down). I dug, and saw the glimmer of the diamond, and knew Ashley would sleep well that night. I called her, and she came back to receive her ring again. A great and happy day!

Ashley sent the following testimonial:

Hi Steve,
I cannot thank you enough for finding my wedding ring today at the beach. I was so discouraged when I first lost it and then you showed up and were not going to stop until it was found! I appreciate the extra hours you stayed to look. It’s amazing there are such great people in the world. Thank you so much again! We need more people like you in the world.

Ashley

Ashley called me regarding a charm that had fallen from her daughter’s necklace into the sand at the beach. It had just happened, and they hadn’t left the area, so I knew the chances of a recovery were high. I let her know that I would be on my way.

When I got there, I found where Ashley and her family were sitting, and she showed me the area of the loss, it was a very small area. I began sweeping my coil over the spot, and received a good solid signal, put my scoop in, and nothing. I went over it again, put my scoop in, nothing. Then I asked Ashley if the charm would fall through the openings on my scoop, and she said it would. I then began hand sifting for the charm, but was unable to find it, although I knew it was there. We were able to borrow a nearby child’s sand sifter, and in one scoop, had the charm safely recovered. Sand is very hard to find lost jewelry in because it almost acts as a fluid, moving the item around as you look for it. Even though it was hard to retrieve this charm, with my equipment we knew where to look, and were finally successful. Happy mom, and daughter, this was a great recovery.

Bryan was out giving a bath to his 175 pound Great Dane, when after he was completed, he noticed his custom made wedding ring was missing. He had looked down on hands and knees, but was unable to find it. We arranged a time for me to come out and search for the ring, and I was on my way.

I got to Bryan’s house, and he showed me the area of the loss. It wasn’t very big, but had grass with a decent thatch which could hide a ring easily. I set up, and began my search taking about 3 or 4 swings, when I received a great signal, got out the pin pointer, and began to move the grass around. there in the grass was Bryan’s ring which was customized with mountain scenes from the Sierra Nevada where he proposed to his wife. He was shocked to see how fast the recovery was made, because he had diligently looked over that area earlier. The color of his ring, along with the color of the grass, and dirt made the ring very difficult to see. The metal detector allows us to see differently, and succeed in our searches. So happy to have helped him!

I received a call from Robert the other day. He swims at the beach every day, and usually buries his keys under his towel to keep them safe while he is swimming. The problem that day was that when he was done, he grabbed his belongings, towel, and headed for the showers. When he realized he had left his keys, he went back to find them. He tried to find the exact spot he had bee, but there is so much space it is hard to find the exact spot. I told him I was on my way.

When I got there I found Robert, and he showed me where he believed the keys to be. I could see that he had searched a rather large area, and I knew that he had covered a lot of ground. He started me out where he thought he might have been. I began my search, and began to expand outward as I searched. I found some trash metal, but for the most part the beach was pretty clean. I continued going over the area Robert had previously searched knowing that a lot of times things just move around as people push through the sand. I covered a couple of areas he had searched, and went over to the third area, and began a new search. I made 3 passes, and then received a good signal, dug and lifted Robert’s keys from the sand. He had gone to use the facilities, and was on his way back when I held his keys up. He was very happy to know that he could get in his car, and be able to drive home. I was glad to have made his day!

Pam called me regarding her lost wedding ring. We talked, and she told me she had lost it at the beach 2 days before, and my heart dropped, because time ALWAYS works against a successful recovery. I then began my litany of questions, and as she described where it was lost, my hopes of a recovery buoyed. We arranged to meet at the beach where she would take me to the area of the loss, and I was on my way.

When I arrived Pam met me, and took me out to the beach to show me the area. When we got there I could see that the total area was not big, but she said that there was also another spot if this one was not successful. I began my search right where she said she had put her chair. She had been sitting there pulling her sunblock gloves on and off, and suspected that is the reason the ring came off. As I searched Pam went out and looked out over the water. I found a couple of bottle caps, and pull tabs before getting a strong double beep in the headphones. I put in the scoop, and raised it up with a huge beautiful diamond ring in it. Pam had not described it to me before I began, and I had no problem knowing that this beauty was her ring. I said out loud that it must be a beautiful ring, and she turned to see me holding it up for her. Pam was stricken with unbelief, that ring was found, but overcome with happiness. It was great to experience her joy, and be able to return a ring she had had for decades, and thought was gone forever. What a wonderful day!

Pam sent the following testimonial:

Dear Ringfinders,

I just want to acknowledge the professionalism of Steve Smith of Ringfinders.
From the moment I reached out to him I knew this man was a professional.

His care in asking the right questions. His ability to arrive quickly. His compassion and quiet fortitude in his search.

I would call him an angel. I had lost my wedding ring and I had all but lost hope of recovery. I believed it would be a real miracle to find my ring after 3 days lost at the beach. He found it in 5 minutes! It was completely miraculous.

Steve is a the real deal. A truly nice person wanting to help others. What a great job!

So grateful to have met this wonderful person!

Pam1

When Rosie contacted me, she was down on the beach going over the sand where she had been the evening before. She had dropped her iPhone without realizing it, and now was trying to find it. She asked if I could help. I asked her to look at the sand, and tell me if it looked smoothed out, and she said it was. I could tell from her description, that the machines had already gone through, and informed her that the possibility of a recovery was very dismal. She then told me that her Find My iPhone app was showing it still there, so I asked her when was it last updated because it will still show even if it was last updated the day before. She told me that the last update was just 2 minutes ago, and I told her she has to be one of the luckiest people, and let her know I was coming right away, and to not let the machines come through the area again.

When I arrived we found each other, and she showed me where she believed the phone was lost. I could tell the machines had gone through, but they left a ridge of material in the area the phone was lost. I began the search where Rosie had been looking, and then began looking in the ridge of trash. There was a lot of trash metal that I found, but no phone. I then began expanding the search zone. I continued expanding the zone, finding more trash metal, and then I found the phone way outside of the search zone. The phone was actually moved by the machine, but not picked up by it. Rosie was very happy to have it back, and I was happy to be able to help!

Alex contacted me because he and his wife were down on the beach, and during the movement of their beach chairs, his ring disappeared. We discussed what had happened, and I asked the many questions I normally ask to try to understand the conditions of the loss. I was able to go immediately, to insure the recovery was made.

When I arrived Alex met me, and took me to where the ring was lost. When we arrived his wife Nora was waiting. She had secured the site, so no one else laid out their towels over the ring. They were there celebrating their 2nd wedding anniversary, and to have this loss happen was somewhat devastating. They showed me what happened, and where they had been sitting explaining where they believed the ring to have gone. I set up, and began my search. One pass, one scoop, and the ring was recovered. It was a little off of where they believed it to have gone, but in the general direction. They were so happy to have the ring back, so they could enjoy the rest of their anniversary celebration. A wonderful day!

John called me about his wedding ring that he had lost at the beach the day before. We talked, and I let him know that the county cleans this beach usually daily, and that if they had, the possibility of a recovery was going to be diminished. He wasn’t sure exactly where on the beach the ring was lost, because he had taken it off and put it in the pocket of his chair so he could go in the water, and it wasn’t until he had packed up everything and left the sand that he remembered the ring was gone. He gave me the area (he was not going to be able to be there to meet me), and I let him know that I would do the search as soon as I could get to the beach.

When I got to the beach, I looked out over the sand, and my hope was lifted. It looked like the cleaning machines had gone over only the towel line at the high tide line. I began my search going all the way into the wet sand to make sure the ring had not fallen off in that area. I was not able to find it in the slope area, so I moved my search closer towards the bike path, and after one pass in the grid, I got a great signal, dug and had a chunky gold ring in the scoop. I took a picture of it and sent it to John, who when he saw it said, « That’s it! Holy cow. » We were able to meet a short while later in order to make the return, and John was very grateful. It was nice to make his day!

Diamond Stud Earrinng Lost in the Sand at Manhattan Beach…Found and Happily Returned.

I got a call from Christy regarding her friend Erin. Erin had been surfing, and when she came out of the water, she removed her wetsuit causing her diamond stud earring to come off of her ear, and into the sand. Stud earrings are one of the most difficult items to find because there is such a small amount of metal attached to them. We arranged to meet, and I set off to do the search.

When I arrived at the beach, I looked for her, but there were a number of people out on the sand. I asked her to let me know where she was, and she began waving her arm. What I saw disheartened me a bit. She was standing in a group of no less than 30 people, mostly children moving around, and I began to think that the earring might have been stepped on and pushed out of detecting range. Erin had the other earring, so we put it in a ziplock bag, and placed it on the sand. When I tested the earring with my detector the furthest I could get from it and still detect it was about 2 inches, so I knew to find it, it needed to be close to the surface. As I began my search, everyone began to leave, and then as they were almost gone, Christy drew a circle of about 20 feet around the area where she believed the loss to have occurred which seemed rather large for such a small item. I worked slowly checking every faint signal I heard, and laid out a grid on the whole area. After, I began a cross grid, in order to not miss the earring because it might have been turned a different way. Then right in the middle of the circle I heard another faint signal, and moved some sand to check again. The signal came in stronger, so I moved a little more sand and rechecked. Now the signal was strong, so I dipped in my little scoop, and there in the bottom was the earring. I let Christy and Erin know it had been found, and Erin asked her husband to come and get it. He was reluctant to have his picture taken with the recovery, so He took one of me. Then I told him he might want to buy a lottery ticket because the odds of a recovery were so slim. Another great day.
