Erin contacted me hoping I could help her. It was later in the evening and she had lost her wedding and engagement rings while at the beach earlier in the day. She and her family were unable to find them and seemed to have lost a bit of hope until they found my site. I let them know that even though it was late, I would meet them at the beach for a search, to which they agreed, and I was on my way.

Erin and her father-in-law met me at the area of the loss and showed me what had happened. They had marked the area, so they had a good idea of where to look, that always helps me to help the person I am doing a search for. I began my grid up, back, and up again. I got a good signal and scooped up her wedding band. I went over the spot again, but nothing. I then turned the direction of the swing over the spot again and got another good signal on the engagement ring. I figured I did not hear it on the first pass because it had « parachuted » into the sand and was vertical and turned so that it would only sound to a particular direction. Anyway, I was able to make Erin’s day, and also ensure a good night’s sleep for her.

Leonard called because he had lost his silver ring in his yard while throwing a ball to his dogs. It was a special gift from a friend, so it had a certain sentimental value for him. We arranged a time for me to do the search, and I went to help him in the recovery.

When I got there Leonard took me into the backyard where he showed me where the loss took place. There were a couple of planters and some bushes lining a grassy area, and not too far from the side of the area was a short fence that divided the yard from a brushy hillside. I began with the most likely area first in front of where he made the throw. Not finding the ring I began to work my way out of what would have been the line of the throw into the bushes and planters out to where the ball ended up; still no ring. I was sure hoping it did not go over the fence into the hillside brush. Before I started looking over the fence, I began to work the bushes behind the throwing point, and off to the side of where he had been standing. When sweeping under one of the bushes I got a good signal, lifted to branches, and there it was. I lifted it up to show them, and they showed such surprise that it had ended up there. I believe that « Out of the Box » thinking is what makes The Ring Finders so successful. Sometimes it just isn’t where you think it is. So glad to be a help that day.

Meredith contacted me regarding an engagement ring she lost the night before at the Griffith Park Haunted Hayride. She had been there with her fiancé when after the ride was over she stood up to get off, and her loose fitting engagement ring slid off of her finger, and was lost somewhere in the hay. She and her fiancé, along with some of the staff stayed until 3 AM searching for her ring with no luck. We arranged a time to meet there, and I was on my way.

When I arrived Meredith and her fiancé Mehrdod had emptied the hay from the area of the loss from the trailer onto a tarp, and spread it out, so I began my search there. I went over the hay very carefully, but there was no ring there. I then went into the trailer to search the remaining hay but was unable to find it there. There were gaps in the floor of the trailer that a ring could easily fall through, so I got under the trailer and searched; nothing. I then repeated the whole search again to make sure nothing was missed, and again no ring. I asked if this was the area where she disembarked, and she said no it was another area. We went to the place where she stood to get off of the ride, and I began to search there. She and her fiancé were doing something in another part of this spot when I got a great signal, put the pin pointer in, and found her ring. I walked over with her ring hidden in my hand, and asked an inquiring question, to which she walked over to Mehrdod to discuss it with him. It was at that time I held up my hand with her ring, and asked, « Are we looking for this? » Meredith got very emotional at that point with joy, and later said that that was the best « jump scare » she had ever had. She then told me that they were getting married in 12 days; WOW! What a pleasure it is to see that kind of joy restored in a person’s life! What a great day!

It was pretty late one night when Tim contacted me. He had lost his ring at a beach club in their volley ball court, and after about 1 1/2 hours of searching was unable to find it. He wanted to know if I would be willing to go back the next day and do a search, but I told him I would do the search this night if he would send me the information showing me exactly where to look, because time is the real enemy of a successful search. He agreed, and after the information came I was on my way.

All the parking was shut down for the night so the only place I could park was about 2 miles away at the pier. For situations such as this I bring a folding bike with me. I unfolded my bike, strapped my detector and scoop on my back, and rode the bike path to the search area. I was able to find the area quickly, and began my search. It took just a couple of minutes, and I had Tim’s ring in my hand. I let him know it was found, and we arranged to meet the next day for the return. He was very happy that it was found, and happy that I was willing to go to do the search late the night before, to which I exclaimed that it was my pleasure to do so!

Dan had lost his wedding ring while gardening in his yard, and asked if I would do a search for him. I let him know that I would be happy to do so, and we arranged a time for the search.

I got to his house at the appointed time, and Dan showed me where he thought the ring had come off. It was in a thick bunch of geraniums in a long planter in front of his house. He had trimmed the plants, and believed the ring came off during the process. I searched the planter very carefully, but there was a bunch of metal mesh for the support of the plants that was making a complete search impossible. I searched the grass in front of the planter in case the ring had fallen there. I also searched the clippings to see if he might have thrown it out with them; no ring. Dan asked if I could come back if he were able to remove the metal mesh from the planter, and I said I would.

I got a call from Dan a week later that he had cleaned out the planter. Well when I got there I saw that he had certainly cleaned out the planter. Not only did he remove the mesh, he also cut the geraniums down almost to their roots. I again searched the planter; no ring. I went and searched the clippings; no ring. So I began a search of the grass in front of the planter, got a good signal, reached in with the pin pointer, and there it was. It must have fallen when Dan moved all of the foliage from the planter. Scored on the second try, and he was happy to have his ring again!

I got a call from Marko in the morning. He had lost his ring at the beach, and was hoping I would be able to recover it for him. We discussed the loss, and I found out it had happened about 4 days before the call. I wasn’t very hopeful of a recovery because this is one of those beaches that is cleaned regularly by the county machines, but Marko had not lost hope, and asked if I would do the search anyway. I said that I would, and we agreed on a time to meet.

Marko arrived shortly after I did. I had looked out over the sand, and the site was pretty dismal with the smoothed sand from the machines. Marko had me follow him to the area where he believed he lost his ring, and as we walked things did not look any better. Finally after about a 1/4 mile walk he took me over to an area that had a communications pole right in the middle of it, and all the machine tracks had completely avoided the area. I looked at Marko with a smile, and said it looks like we might have a chance of a recovery. About 2 minutes later Marko had his ring back. What a great recovery!

About a month and a half ago I received a call from Abby. It seems she had lost her wedding ring on a farm where she grows flowers for market. She believed it happened when she was stung by a bee, began removing her clothes, and running through the flower patch. She and her husband had purchased a metal detector, and had searched for the ring to no avail. We arranged to meet the next day for a search.

When I got to the farm, I let Abby know I was there. She came right by, and took me out to the area she thought the loss most likely happened. When we got there, I was looking at 4 rows of flowers at least 200 feet long, with flowers at about 5 feet tall and having very stiff shafts; I knew I was in for a tough search. I would search the furrow with my coil, and then work around the base of the flowers with my pin pointer, working down each 200 foot row. I was VERY happy that there was very little metal in the ground which would have slowed me down considerably. After a couple of hours I had completed the search as best as I could with no ring. Abby then took me over to another area she been that day, I searched 3 more rows flowers at about 150 feet, no ring. We went and looked in another area, but no ring. We then talked and she said that the flowers would be cut in a month or so, and asked if I would be willing to come out again, and If it would be easier if they were cut down; I said I would be willing and it would be easier.

So this week Chris, Abby’s husband called to let me know the flowers had been cut, and wondered if I would want to come out and go over the areas again, so we arranged the next day to do the search. Chris and Abby met me and we went and searched 3 more new rows of flowers (I had not searched the last time) she had remembered going through the day she lost her ring; no ring. I then searched one of the previous areas finding some aluminum and pot metal; no ring. We then went over to the 200 foot rows where the bee had stung her, and searched very slow and deliberate. I found a good signal, dug in, and came up with a wad of tin foil. When Abby saw the shiny metal she came running over to only be disheartened finding out the find was tin foil. We were running out of possibilities. She showed me another spot near the flower rows, and then another, but no ring. She then asked if I would be willing to try one more spot she remembered being that day, and I told her she had me there, so she needed to take advantage of that, and YES I would search one more spot for her!

We went over to the other area which was a parking area near my second search of the day, and it was covered with a thick layer of wood chips. She gave me an estimated area to search, and I began a grid. Down, back, down, back, turn, and BAM, a real solid signal in the head phones. I put in the pin pointer, moving the chips around when it sounded, and I saw what looked like the edge of a coin with a smooth edge, nice and silvery. I reached in and picked out this beautiful ring. I tucked it in my palm, and looked up at Abby with a somewhat solemn expression, hands at my side, she started over probably thinking I was throwing in the towel for the search. When she got near I asked what her ring looked like, as I held out my open hand with her ring in it. Abby was immediately swarmed with a multitude of emotions all resulting from the joy she had at seeing her wedding ring again, after being without it for a couple of months. It was then Chris remembered there was a tractor in the area where the ring was found the day of the previous search, and yes I also remembered a tracked vehicle that was parked right on top of the ring the last time I was out there which did not allow us to search that area. We were fortunate it had been moved this time. Chris said they had the ring custom made in an old town in the UK where he was raised, and to tell it myself, the ring looked as if it had been made for Royalty; I might have been right about that, as she is his « queen ». What a wonderful day!

I received a call from a lady who wished to remain anonymous. She had lost her Mother’s ring in sand at the beach, and needed help in finding it. I let her know I would be on my way.

When I got to the beach she was waiting for me, and showed  me the small area of where she believed the ring should be, so I set up for a search. I started in the middle of the area, and after about 5 swings of my coil I got the sound I wanted, dug, and had her Mother’s Ring with her children’s names written in gold wire in my scoop. She was very thankful, and took my picture with the ring. A fulfilling afternoon!

I received a desperate late night call from Monica. She had been traveling down the coast on her way to the airport, and while stopping on the side of the road to apply sunscreen, she removed her soldered engagement and wedding rings, and laid them in her lap. She then got out of the car forgetting her rings altogether. She left, and was at the airport getting ready to head back to Colorado when she realized the loss, so she had no way to get back to look for the rings. I let her know that I would leave immediately to look for them.

I got to the spot she directed me to, and there was one vehicle in the area she had told me about. I was hoping the car tire was not covering the rings, or that maybe they were knocked out into the highway by another vehicle. I turned on my light and began looking around on the shoulder. As soon as I got in front of the car I spoke of earlier, I flashed the light around the bumper, and got the beautiful glimmer from Monica’s rings right under the front of the car. I took a picture with her rings, sent her a text of the recovery with my picture. She was so surprised and happy to know they had been recovered. We then arranged to get the rings back to her via USPS, and I am happy to report she has them back.
