.. Keri and her family are vacationing in Newport Beach from Salt Lake City, Utah. On the second day of their 7 day vacation she discovered her white gold diamond ring was missing. The family went to the beach that morning and she realized she still was wearing her diamond wedding ring. She put it in the beach bag for safe keeping. 

After returning to their summer rental house. She couldn’t find her ring in the bag. They believed the ring may have come out of the bag while they were at the beach. Several members of the family had retrieved items from the bag and it could be possible the ring could be in the sand. 

I met them shortly after they called me that evening. After not finding the ring in the dry sand, I learned that they had actually set up their beach chairs below the normal towel line. The tide was high so I agreed to return at 6:30am searching the low tide wet sand. After two hours I had cleared most the low tide area. No ring to be found. 

I only had a few minutes before I had to leave for a 9:30 doctor’s appointment. My best move would be to expand the towel line search where Keri’s husband told me they had not been that far south. Guess what ! Yes the ring was there and not down in the wet low tide. Actually nobody could definitely say where the ring came out of the beach bag. Remember Keri didn’t even know the ring was missing until they had returned to their summer rental. Process of elimination is what we were doing, just lucky that the ring was hiding in the sand where a Metal Detector can find it.

I got a call from a young man who needed help searching his parents yard for his lost wedding band, sadly he lost his ring the day he got married, at the reception in his parents backyard. His friend came over the next day to help search for two hours with a metal detector, but no luck. After asking my questions I decided to head out the next morning to Abbotsford which is over an hour drive to help this young man find his wedding band. He was working that day so I met his mother and she showed me the area where he was in the yard which is pretty much the whole backyard, I set up my gridlines and began to search, it was a hot day and after an hour I found his beautiful gold wedding band that was on his hand less than a half a day.

I gotta say I get just excited to find what I’m looking for as the person I find it for, I can understand how painful that must’ve been losing something so sentimental that was just giving to you that day from a person you’re gonna spend the rest your life with that you love very much.

It was an honour to be able to help continue that story for him, as his story was just beginning! I have to say he was not the first and he will not be the last to lose his ring on his wedding day.

Indian River Florida Ring Recovery

A young newlywed was on his honeymoon with his new bride of exactly two days. They spent their special day together fishing in a remote spot on the Indian River in Florida. While handling a slippery catch he watched as his ring first fall off of his hand, hit once on the rail, and then plop into the dark green ten foot deep water. His first instinct was to GPS his location. Feeling desperate and with no possibility of recovering it himself, he contacted me through the Ringfinders website. A successful dive recovery was made and the ring was returned to the grateful owner.

Class Ring found after 40 years, Elkhorn Nebraska

We received a phone call from Mark asking if we would be interested in looking for a class ring that was lost in 1976.  It was lost on the family farm while throwing tires away from an outbuilding that was on fire.

Challenge Accepted!

The farm is actually one we have driven by numerous times, the LP tank is painted like a large watermelon.   Mark walked us to the area where he thought the building stood at the time.  When you’re looking at a large general area, I’ve found it beneficial to set up a grid of string to make sure we cover every inch.

Most people are very interested at first when you start finding targets.  Once they realize how much  trashy metal is in the ground the anticipation quickly subsides.  I would call him over when we found more interesting bits of twisted metal.

Once we started digging melted chunks of aluminum we knew were in the right spot.  We moved our grid out a little further.  It was probably 10 minutes after we moved, when I came across a good signal.   I dug down about 3 inches and out popped his ring.  I looked up and noticed Mark was over by his truck talking on his phone.  I then looked at Rachel, who was intently digging on another target.  I managed to get her attention and whispered, « Rachel I just found his ring. »   She immediately came over to take a look.  In the meantime, Mark also noticed that we were both looking at something.   I called over to him as I had done a couple times previously, « Mark come and take a look at this, it’s kind of interesting. »

The ring, somewhat hidden in a ball of mud, was a bit hard to see at first.  Once he saw it, the emotion swept over him.  I then received the biggest bear hug ever (even bigger then grandma’s.)

Total search time about 2 hours + 40 years.

I Lost Sunglasses, Found Ring, Exchanged Ring for Sunglasses

I was having a great swim in the vacation resort’s pool, when my sunglasses came off my neck. While searching for the sunglasses I found a wedding band. When I surfaced, I was told my glasses had been found and were on the upper bar. I went to trade the ring for the sunglasses but before I could ask the barmaid she started a rant about the ring. It seems the owner was having his last meal at the resort and was leaving in a few minutes. The ring’s owner came from the resturant, the ring was returned, photos taken and best wishes for the couple who had been married less than on month. In the excitement I almost forgot to retrieve my sunglasses from the bar counter. Strange thing but the man’s name was Scott and the barmaid’s last name was Scott also. All things happen for a reason.
