Lost Diamond Wedding Ring Recovered from an Oklahoma Lake After Five-Hour Search
An ATV ride, about five hours of underwater searching, and a 14k white gold diamond wedding ring back with its owner. This Oklahoma lake recovery took some persistence—and the owner’s quick thinking helped give us a place to start.
Immediately after losing her wedding ring, she marked the GPS location on her phone. She also photographed nearby landmarks and the water level so we could identify the area when we arrived.
Those details were valuable. A phone’s GPS pin doesn’t pinpoint a ring on the lake bottom, but combined with photographs and the owner’s account, it helps narrow the search area.
Reaching the location and searching the water
Access required an ATV to reach the search location. Once there, I began the underwater search.
Even with the owner’s careful documentation, this wasn’t a quick recovery. After about five hours of searching, I found her ring in approximately five feet of water.
The video captures the moment I surfaced and held it up: a beautiful 14k white gold diamond wedding ring, back above water and ready to go home.
The ring has now been returned to its owner. That’s the part that makes a long search worthwhile.
What to do if you lose a ring in the water
This owner’s response is a useful example. If you lose a ring, save as much information as you safely can:
- Mark the location on your phone. Note whether the pin marks the loss location or where you were when you saved it.
- Photograph landmarks and the shoreline. Wide photos help establish the area; closer photos preserve useful details.
- Document the water level and approximate depth.
- Write down what happened while it’s fresh. Include what you were doing and where you last remember wearing the ring.
- Explain how to access the location. A search may require a boat, ATV, or property owner’s permission.
