Metal Detecting…Lost 19k White Gold Wedding Band/Downtown Vancouver

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I was at work when I received a call from a lady that I did a search for a few months back, she lost her diamond earring. I didn’t find her earring but I did my best to help her and she said that she’d pass out my name for anyone she knew that could use my service…

Today was the day as she heard about a friend at work who lost his wedding bandwhile playing volleyball at a nearby park. She said that he lost his wedding band while playing volleyball and it was lost in deep grass and he knew the area it was lost in, she passed my name and number to him.

Shortly after I received a call from theyoung man and we setup a time that evening to search for his ring. When I got off work I headed out to Vancouver, I met Chad and we went to the park were he lost his ring.

I asked him where he thought he lost the ring and to my surprise he wasn’t sure…This changes everything as now we might be searching for hours for something that isn’t even there. He wasn’t even sure if it came off playing volleyball, but that would be the most likely place to search.

I could tell at night the area that they were playing volleyball because the ground was packed with foot prints. I started my grid search and within 5 minutes I got a good signal and flashed my light to the ground and in the long blades of grass I could see the outline of the white gold ring.

I called him over and showed him his ring…

The Danger of Metal Detecting Vancouver Beaches At Night

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

The danger of metal detecting the beaches of a night consist of a few things…But there is one that really stinks!
I feel safe of a night when I search the beaches here in Vancouver, I think we are lucky living where we do! You just have to be careful of the wildlife! I was up in the mountains one year metal detecting and I came across a black bear and its cubs…Luckily I wasn’t close enough to upset the mother, she did get up on her hind legs and give me a grunt! The only thing I had to fight her off with was my metal detector…I wasn’t going to use that!

Thanks for reading my posts, here’s a little video of a night hunt on the beach…

Wreck Beach UBC… Nude Beach Gold

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Wreck Beach Gold

Wreck Beach Gold Ring

I received a call from a young lady who told me that she lost her husbands 22k gold wedding band just before night fall yesterday. She told me they were at Wreck Beach(Nude Beach)and she was holding it for her husband so he wouldn’t lose it while he went swimming.

While she was soaking up the sun she felt something bite her on the back so she swung her arms back and that’s when the ring came off. She didn’t see the ring come off but she knew that’s when it happened.

I met up with the young couple who are going to university, UBC. We met at the top and walked down 490+ steps to the bottom to get to the beach. I thought it was going to be a quick search as they were sure they could put me in the exact area the ring came off, I started my search and after one hour I could tell they were very concerned that I wouldn’t find the ring.

I kept expanding the grid knowing that the ring could have launched off her finger and traveled far from the spot. I had the young lady re-enact what happen with my ring. The first time my ring went flying back about 6 yards, the second time it went back only a few feet.

I knew that the ring would be behind where they were sitting so I grid searched hard in that area. Closing in on 1 1/2 of searching I knew I had to think deep and go for the faint signals. Her husband told me that he raked the area with this big beach rake, but couldn’t find it, he spent 2 hours searching.

Because it was taking me so long I figured it must have got buried deep when he was raking the area…Most of the time I’m waiting for the loud and proud signal because it was a resent loss but this made me go after the deep ones and my second faint signal was his beautiful 22k gold wedding band! 8+ inches down.

He was little shocked at first as I guess they were thinking the worst because it was taking me so long. I love the challenge and some times it takes a while but its worth the smile!

The Flying Ring Part 2…

The Flying Ring… Part 1/North Vancouver

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I had a call for a lost ring the other day and when I talked to the young man he told me that he gave his ring to his step son and he lost it in this field.
We met at the field and he showed me the area that he figured it might be lost in, I told him it might take a while so if he wanted to go home I’d call him when I found the ring. I started my search and after an 1 1/2 I had no ring. I felt I did a good grid search and I called to ask if he could come down with his son so he could show me the area he was playing in.

About ten minutes later his wife shows up with their son and I was thinking great now I can get a better idea of the area. His wife told me straight out that it had nothing to do with her son, she told me her husband threw it away…

No judgment as this happens a lot and he isn’t the first and won’t be the last to get mad and throw a ring! This however changed everything as the ring could have gone a long way…

I spent another hour or more and didn’t find the ring but I will be back to finish up the search. The chances of finding the ring will be better if I can get the young man to come to the field and throw a test ring so I can gage the distance it traveled.

I’ll keep you posted with part 2 of the flying ring soon!

Metal Detecting for Saint Christopher/English Bay Beach/Vancouver

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I was at work last week and I got a call from a lady that told me her son lost his silver chain with a cross and Saint Christopher medallion on it.

She tells me that her son lost it at English Bay Beach in Vancouver by a log, he took it off and put it on his blanket and when he was ready to head home he shook the sand off his blanket and off went the chain.

The young man was more then half way home on the bus when he realized what he had done! He was devastated and when he got home he told his mother what happened. She went on line where she found my service and called me, we talked and she told me the story.

The thing was she called me on Thursday and her son lost it on a Monday, I was sure that someone had found it as most treasure hunter search the logs first. I told her to register the loss on my website and I’d call a few treasure hunters to see if anyone found it.

By Sunday and a few searches later I’d picked up the Newspaper and checked the lost column to see the add about a lost silver chain at English Bay Beach. I called and asked the lady why she didn’t register the loss on my website and she said her son forgot to do that. I told her that I’d go out to the beach and take a look but I told her our chances didn’t look good.

I talked to her son that afternoon and he told me where and how to get to the log he was sitting at, I found the area and from what he told me I figured that I was at the right log.

I turned on my detector and the very first signal was his silver chain and cross & Saint Christopher! I was amazed!! The luck was with us that day and I learned later that the Saint Christopher medallion was given to him by his late Grandmother, it meant the world to him…

Metal Detecting…Hong Kong Gold/Found at Vancouver Beach

Ring Testimonial…

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I lost my wedding band over a month ago now and I was quite disappointed to say the least. I’ve never taken my ring off except for a few hours to do odd chores around the house for the last 10 years. After losing the ring, it felt like I lost a part of me. So I started scouring « lost and found » ads in the paper and craigslist hoping to find my ring. And this is how I found Chris Turner, on Craigslist, offering his service to find lost jewelry for people. So I contacted Chris, told him where, when and how I lost it. He said he’ll try to look for it but there won’t be any guarantee. I resigned to the fact that he won’t find it since it’s been lost in the lake for at least 3 weeks after calling him. But lo and behold, one beautiful Saturday morning he gives me a call to let me know he found it!!!! They say miracles don’t happen but it did, Chris happened. I want to take this opportunity to say thanks to you again buddy. Big Thanks!!!

Regards,

Jason
