Friday morning Dion went to the front door to let his dog outside and in the dogs excited state there was some confusion about not exiting the house fast enough. Dion was wanting his dog to hurry along and he swung his left hand underhanded like…sort of in a bowling style motion and he felt his unique, custom made wedding ring come off of his finger. He heard a ping sound, as if his ring had struck something metal and it just plain disappeared. He was sure it landed close by and proceeded to search all through the low bushes along the side walk. He even went as far as removing all the bushes…he told me later that they didn’t like those bushes anyway…so all that was left was the pine bark mulch and dirt! Dion was bound and determined to find his two piece, interlocking, platinum and yellow gold wedding ring which he has worn for the past 11 years.

Friday night was a very difficult night for Dion as he struggled with the thought of never seeing his lost wedding ring again. In desperation he went online and looked up « How to find a lost ring » and up came theringfinders.com and as he read what we are all about he started to find some hope. He sent out a request to one of our members and they were able to do a short search but they were unable to locate Dion’s lost wedding ring. Dion knew his lost ring had to be there in his front yard somewhere so he gave me a call and explained what happened. It was a two hour drive that took me up into the beautiful Ocala National Forest area and I was anxious to see what the front of his house looked like and where his ring was hiding. After meeting Dion and hearing his story there was one key fact that stuck out to me. He said that when he waved his hand at the dog the sound of his ring hitting something was not immediate but delayed. That information told me his ring struck the sidewalk or driveway out a good ways from the front door. Both sides of the sidewalk had been thoroughly searched so I determined it must have landed out in the grass some 30 to 40 feet from where Dion had been standing. It took only a minute or two to set up my Garrett ATMax metal detector and within minutes I got my first promising signal—Platinum! And a couple of swings later—Yellow Gold!

Dion was overjoyed and rushed inside to tell his wife and as I walked along I silently thanked God for allowing me to be a blessing to this young couple and their 8 kids!

Lost wedding ring in yard, Lakeland, Fl….Found with a metal detector!

(That is me in the photo, filling in for Dave, as he was a bit shy!)

Dave was needing to get some brush cleared along the back side of his property and spent the good part of a day cutting and hauling branches out to the front of the house where the garbage truck could pick it all up. Every now and then he would remove his gloves and wipe the sweat from his brow or take a nice long drink of cold water, and then go back to work. On one occasion as he removed his gloves he felt his ring slip off of his finger and he quickly retrieved his ring and slid it back where it belonged. But as he was finishing up his work he looked at his left hand and saw that his ring had come off again so he tipped up his glove to shake out his ring but this time his glove was empty! He began looking the yard over, thinking he could easily find it but after an hour of combing thru every possible place he could think of—NO RING! The thought of finding it with a metal detector seemed like the most logical thing so he went out and bought a lower end model and started searching the yard from back to the front and along the sides. Dave was determined to find his ring and then it slowly began to dawn that maybe it had dropped into the canal at the back side of the property. A week went by and Dave realized he needed more help and that led him to one of my stories on theringfinders.com web site.

It was a two hour drive to Dave’s home and it was threatening to rain big time but after hearing his story I felt there was a good chance of being able to find his ring so off I went. After arriving and surveying the yard I set up my Garrett ATMax metal detector and went to work. (A few days earlier Dave had a chain link fence installed along the canal–so that was the most challenging part. With the metal fence and the drop off into the canal!). With the sun starting to set I turned my attention to the front of the house where Dave had hauled all the debris. I decided to start by the front door and follow the sidewalk down to the mailbox when I got a loud, sharp signal that showed two inches deep on my display and low and behold there was Dave’s lost wedding ring–just barely visible under the grass. Dave was putting his two little ones to bed at the time so I texted him a short « I found your ring! »

Whenever I am called to help someone look for a lost valuable I always ask my family and my parents, who are 88 and 87 years old, to pray for me. I assure people that God knows exactly where their item is hiding and He just needs to put my coil over the top of it. Again I thanked God for allowing me to find Dave’s lost wedding ring—just in time for their 7th year anniversary!

Lost wedding ring in swimming pool, Longwood, Fl….Found and Returned to owner!

Shawn and her husband are planning to move to another house and before they say good bye to their home in Longwood they desperately want to find his wedding ring which slipped off of his finger while swimming in the pool. Apparently the « pool guy » had not been doing his job very well and the water had turned a chalky white and visibility was only a foot or two. And neither Shawn nor her husband could hold their breath long enough to search the deeper part of the pool with their goggles.

Since they were going to be moving out in a few days they were getting very anxious about not being able to find the custom made lost wedding ring and that led them to do an online search for someone to help them. Theringfinders.com came up and after reading a few of my successful recovery stories Shawn decided to give me a call. (You see, most of my requests to find lost items are usually to search in yards, parks, beaches, lakes and places like that and the saying « Like shooting fish in a barrel » came to mind! But of coarse every search I have been on there is always some sort of challenge involved and many times it ends up being more difficult than first imagined.)

So that same day I was able to meet Shawn and as I surveyed the pool I settled on using my scuba tank and 50 foot Gator Gill hose along with my mask, fins, weight belt and flashlight. I entered the pool and slowly sank to the bottom making my way along one side while shinning my light along the bottom hoping to catch a glimpse of gold. I swam to the deep end and there were leaves and debris on the bottom and I carefully went thru each pile trying not to stir everything up. Shawn said her husband’s ring was rather wide so there was no fear that it could slide down the slits in the drain. I slowly circled the drain making my way in wider circles and BINGO!, there was the lost custom made ring just sitting there waiting to be found! I surfaced and made my way to the shallow end and began to shine my light into the house and Shawn came out–all excited and all smiles!

I thank God for allowing me to be a help to this young couple and now their story can continue and they do not have to worry about leaving their wedding ring behind!

Lost cell phone in Lake Osceola, Winter Park, Fl….Found with a small metal detector!

Boyd gave me a call and asked what the chances were of finding a lost i-phone in a lake. After hearing his story and getting a bit more information on the how, when and where…I decided to gather up all my gear and give it the ol « college try »!

Boyd’s wife, Elizabeth wrote this… »It is so nice to be able to text you from my miraculously working phone! Here is my review of your services. Mike is a Methodical Miracle Worker! I dropped my phone in a lake in a paddle boarding mishap. While I knew the approximate area where my phone was, the aquatic vegetation and algae were extremely thick, rendering visibility very difficult. After five days of searching to no avail, I knew that we needed to call in a professional–and that is exactly what Mike is! Upon his arrival, I was immediately impressed with his careful, intentional approach; he uses high-quality, specialized equipment and takes care to search the area deliberately. Despite this being an objectively difficult task–my phone was a « needle in a haystack, » buried in a fairly large area with very thick vegetation and varying depths of water–Mike kept a positive, professional attitude in every moment. And the moment he pulled my lost phone from among the lake weeds was one of pure joy. Thank you Mike! I wholeheartedly recommend your services. »

During my search I used a 5 foot by 20 foot pvc submersible grid that allowed me to thoroughly cover the thick vegetation while pushing and forcing my 5 and one half inch Pulse Dive hand held metal detector/pinpointer through the weeded lake bottom. I also used my 50 foot hose and regulator by Gator Gill and floated my scuba tank on my small kayak. It took a good two hours of searching but thank God we were successful in the end! And thank you Elizabeth for giving me the opportunity to serve you and for the great review!

Lost large gold wedding ring, New Symrna Beach, Fl…..Found in ocean and returned!

Kim was relaxing at New Symrna Beach with her family and was especially enjoying the warm tidal pool area! She was in knee deep water and was pushing herself around–alligator style–using her hands to pull and push her way along and then « IT » happened! She felt her wedding ring come off of her finger and before she could blink, her ring disappeared into the sand below the water. She stopped immediately and called out for help and in an instant she was surrounded by a group of family and new found friends all wanting to help. They all walked around bent over here and there intently looking into the shallow water, hoping to catch the glimmer of gold! They searched for a while and then slowly began to realize the futility of looking for such a small ring in that sort of environment. Kim was distraught because her wedding ring was actually made up of various family hand-me-down rings that were used to make her one-of-a-kind ring.

Later on that day Kim posted on Facebook about her loss and someone recommended a very specialized group of metal detectorists that actually help people find their lost jewelry. So Kim decided to look up theringfinders.com and up popped my name and one of my stories. She promptly gave me a call and I decided to try and look real early the next morning just after low tide to see if I could find her ring. But I was a bit too late, as low tide was at 4:30am and sunrise was at 6:30 two hours after low tide. I spent an hour and a half looking and as I dug each target, Kim’s heart would soar and then plummet as I revealed a variety of items. As I exited the water, Kim acknowledged that I gave it a noble effort and had all but resigned herself to accepting the sad realization that her ring would not be found. (I knew that later in the evening there would be another low tide and I assured her that I was coming back at 3:00pm to chase that low tide out and cover the tidal pool area once again…and much more thoroughly!). That was wonderful news to Kim’s ears and a blessing to her hurting heart. Earlier, while Kim was anxiously watching me search, a friendly lady stopped and asked what I was looking for and Kim, with tears running down her face, explained her dilemma. The dear lady asked if she could pray for Kim and right there on the beach they bowed their heads and prayed together. Kim told me later that she immediately felt peace and a calmness come over her.

I returned later on that day two hours before low tide and the tidal pool where Kim was swimming was very obvious and now I began another grid search making sure I covered every inch of water. It took only 30 minutes to hear that sweet, sharp sound of gold! I motioned to Kim with a big thumbs up and I could see the emotions and tears of joy flooding over her and I silently thanked God for answering the prayer of a dear stranger just passing by!

Lost diamond ring in surf, Ormond Beach, Florida….found with metal detector!

  • from Sanford (Florida, United States)

Geoff emailed me after searching the web for someone to help find his daughters lost engagement ring in the churning ocean! She had just gotten the ring a few months before and the poor young lady had been crying for the last three days. So many times it happens….folks receive or purchase a nice piece of jewelry and then in a moment….it is gone! In this case they were enjoying the beach, the water and the waves and as they were wading out into the surf all it took was one split second for an unexpected wave to hit them while their backs were turned and BAM!! We all have been hit by these waves and many have lost sunglasses, chains, goggles, hats, ear rings, and in this case…a very beautiful and meaningful diamond engagement ring.

Geoff, the young lady’s father, was also heart broken for his daughters loss and wanted to do all in his power to help find her ring. And as impossible as it may seem, he began to have a glimmer of hope as we emailed back and forth. I asked my usual stream of questions and we decided to meet the next day on the beach two hours before low tide. (I am also very optimistic when someone looses something during high tide because that usually puts the item further up on the beach-instead of way out past the first sandbar where it can be quite rough and much more difficult to conduct a thorough search!).

I met Geoff and his dear wife the next day and we walked out onto the beach where his daughter, four days earlier, had lost her ring. I tried to stress how important it was to try and remember exactly where she was when she lost her ring…and thankfully Geoff answered by pointing to a large hotel and indicated where they had parked their vehicle. Then he went on to show me where they had been in the water and I was very thankful that the area was relatively small. I set out my favorite pink flags, marking an area on the wet sand, to help keep me going in straight lines in and out of the water and then I began to swing my water proof metal detector slowly back and forth. It was a beautiful day and normally these types of searches can take a few hours but within minutes I began to dig signals in the sand. First a coin, then a rusty nail and 20 minutes later up pops a very stunning diamond ring. All I could see at first was a rather large diamond sticking out of the sand and I wondered if I had actually found someone else’s ring. I picked it up and was amazed at how beautiful it was. I motioned for Geoff to come see what I had just found and then I asked them to describe his daughter’s ring. They both quickly blurted out a perfect description and as I opened my hand to reveal the ring, Geoff let out a string of expletives and was visibly stunned in unbelief. He quickly apologized for his language but continued to walk in circles saying how he could not believe I actually found the ring.

It was an honor to help Geoff and his family and I am available to help you!

Lost gold ring on Disappearing Island, New Smyrna Beach, Fl…..Found and Returned!

Alicia was enjoying a relaxing day at Disappearing Island with friends and as she was swimming she somehow felt her small gold ring come off of her pinky finger. She tried grabbing it as it fell thru the water but to her horror it vanished in the soft sand at her feet. She desperately tried feeling in the sand, running her fingers back and forth but her precious ring just seemed to disappear!

This small gold ring was very special to Alicia as it was a gift to her when she was 12 years old from her mother and she has worn that ring every day for the last 23 years, until now. The location where she lost the ring was on Disappearing Island at Ponce Inlet in north New Smyrna Beach. And it is a very popular place for the boaters to park and enjoy the calmer waters and especially at low tide. During high tide the island is quite small but during low tide there is plenty of area for boats to park and especially on weekends the island is lined with boats of all sizes.

I made plans to meet Alicia at the Smyrna Dunes Park and we each brought our own kayak and with my Whites TDI Beach Hunter metal detector, scoop and other essential gear we set out across the busy inlet water way. It took a bit of figuring as Alicia texted her friends and had them each send a pin on a google map photo of where they had anchored the boat and where they would have been swimming the day she lost her ring. Alicia was worried about me being able to find her lost ring but I assured her that if she could put me in the general area where she was swimming then there was a good chance of actually finding her lost ring. So we pulled our kayaks up onto the beach in the 95 degree heat and I set about my grid search going from the wet sand and out into the water and back again, dragging one foot to mark my trail so I could actually overlap each pass so as not to miss one inch of sand. (The day she lost her ring she was in waist deep water at high tide and today we were there just before low tide so my target area was the wet sand out to knee deep water.) After an hour and a half and only digging up bottle caps, pull tabs and other miscellaneous junk I was needing a water break and while talking to Alicia we determined I had gone far enough on the one end of the beach and now I needed to go in the other direction. Alicia was feeling a bit useless and asked me several times what she could do to help me in the search. She offered to cover each hole I dug and tried to assist in finding the hidden target after I would dig a scoop of sand and dump it on the ground. After a while I tried to encourage her that the best thing she could do was « Pray » as I assured her that God knew exactly where her ring was hiding and that He would just need to get me over the top of it with my coil for us to find it. It truly is a matter of inches, as Chris Turner always says, and finally there in ankle deep water I got a faint signal and as the sand drained out of my scoop I could see a small gold ring nestled in the bottom. I motioned for Alicia to come over and look at what I just found and I will never forget the look on her face! The joy and relief and happiness all mixed in with thankfulness!

Lost wedding ring on soccer field, Maitland, Fl….Found!

  • from Sanford (Florida, United States)

Gabby called me yesterday and asked for help finding her husbands lost wedding ring on a full size soccer field. I told her I was up for the challenge and little did I know how tough it would actually be. Her husband, Christian, was not able to join us but he had explained what position he plays and where he spent most of the time during his practice. The first day I set up flags and cones and covered over half of the field carefully grid searching each area. Five and a half hours worth and the temperatures were in the mid 90’s and although I was taking care to stay hydrated the humidity did wear me down.

The next day I returned to finish covering the rest of the field and I was beginning to wonder if maybe someone had picked it up already. Again it was hot, humid and muggy but I was determined to finish what I had started. And part of what drove me to find this lost wedding ring was the fact that Christian and Gabby have only been married for a little over one month! (The first day while I was searching the field, Gabby’s mother, sister and cousin came out to walk the field, hoping to eyeball the ring and we talked briefly and they too expressed their appreciation for my time and effort.). Two and a half hours into my 2nd day of searching I got a banging signal showing the target to be quite shallow. At first I could not see anything but there, well hidden under some dead grass, was Christian’s lost wedding ring! I immediately bowed my head and thanked my heavenly Father for showing me where this little beauty was hiding. I then took a few photos and sent Gabby a text with the great news. Thirty minutes later Christian showed up for soccer practice and was very, very thankful to get his precious ring back!

Heat, humidity, rain or shine, in the water, grass or sand….I am willing to look for your lost item!

Lost wedding ring in ocean, Toronita Beach, Fl….Found and Returned!

  • from Sanford (Florida, United States)

I received an email from Omar stating, « I just realized this morning that I lost my wedding ring. It probably happened at Toronita Beach yesterday evening. The tide was high and I was boogie boarding. Please call me if you think there is a chance that you can find it. » It was close to midnight when I read Omar’s plea for help and I answered immediately wanting to encourage and instill some hope. I always start by asking some very pertinent questions like…What time of the day were you in the water? Did you feel your ring come off? How large of an area did you swim in and how long were you in the water? How deep was the water where you were boogie boarding and how far out did you go? Thankfully Omar responded early the next morning and gave very descriptive answers to all my questions regarding the how, when and where! And one key piece of information about their boogie boarding was he and his daughters were trying to see how far they could ride the waves all the way to the wet sand. With that knowledge and the fact they were in the water at « high tide » put the target area in a much easier part of the beach to metal detect, especially at low tide!

The next morning I met Omar at the beach, two hours before low tide, and he showed me the area where he and his family spent the evening boogie boarding. One thing he did mention was that while they were in the water he remembered a yellow house up past the dunes and they never went past the south side of that property. So that gave me a starting point. I promptly set up some flags in the sand every 15 feet apart until I had an area approximately 150 feet wide. By this time low tide was an hour away and I was hoping and praying that his ring would be somewhere in the wet sand area. After saying a prayer with Omar in the parking lot I geared up and started my systematic grid search and worked my way from the first flag and headed out to the waters edge and back. It took about an hour to cover half of the area and I managed to find a few coins and the occasional rusty nail. At one point I popped out a large gold hoop earring and just the edge was exposed in the sand and I thought, « There is Omar’s ring! » But false alarm! Fifteen minutes later I got a great signal on my Whites TDI Beach Hunter metal detector and low and behold it was Omar’s beautiful gold ring!

Omar put it this way…. »After over 21 years, I lost my ring for the first time. My wife sympathetically searches my brain and our house but the ocean waves are the thief. First reaction horror. Then disbelief, confusion, disappointment, frustration. Hopelessness pairs with helplessness until I arrive at a desperate web search. Theringfinders.com. Do I dare to hope? I send out an SOS email. Mike responds with a shower of useful questions. I carefully respond to each one. He graciously responds building cautious optimism. « God willing I will find your ring. » We meet at the beach. The search process begins. His faith and experience at work. I retreat back to my job, un-expectantly settled and able to focus. Excited about premonition in my life. In just a few hours Mike unearths a victory. I become like a little child filled with an excitement not felt in decades. The ring is not just a comfortable object, but symbolic of so much more to me. How is it that humans come to value a thing whose true worth is not known until it is lost and then found. Read Luke 15 to understand. Sincerely, Omar »

How I thank God for giving me the opportunity to meet and help Omar and his dear family.
Maybe you need hope and help to find something you’ve lost.
Give me a call, text or email ASAP!

Lost diamond engagement ring, Casselberry, Florida….found with a metal detector!

  • from Sanford (Florida, United States)

When Renee called me I could immediately tell by the tone and stress in her voice that she had lost something and needed help. I listened to her explain how she lost her heirloom engagement ring down by their dock and how she and her husband had looked and looked and in frustration finally decided to call someone for help. So after hearing her story I assured her that her ring was there and I would try my very best to find it for her.

I packed up my car with all the essentials…my ATMax metal detector, pro pointer, scoop, floating sifter, flags, extra batteries, etc and headed to Renee’s home. I am always very excited when an opportunity comes along to help someone and I try my hardest to think of anything and everything that I could possibly need to help me in searching and finding someone’s lost ring.

An hour later I pulled up to Renee’s beautiful home and was met by a lovely young lady with tear stained face who was none other than dear Renee. I followed her around to the back of her house and down to the dock area where I could see that a bunch of fresh dirt was pushed here and there and also a few of the boards from the boardwalk were taken up as well. Renee explained how she had pulled some weeds from the shallow water and thought maybe her engagement ring had come off in the water somehow. After pulling a few weeds she proceeded to move some boards from along side of the boardwalk area. One of the boards was covered in fire ants and as she picked up the board the ants began crawling all over her hands and her immediate reaction was to throw the board and shake her hands free of the ants before they could start biting her. And that flinging and shaking action made her rings go flying off of her finger. Thankfully her wedding ring landed on the boardwalk in front of her but her platinum, heirloom, engagement ring was nowhere to be found…it just disappeared! She let out a scream and frantically started to look through the grass and along side the boardwalk and in the fresh dirt. Her husband even bought a low end metal detector and searched the area but came up empty handed. In desperation Renee decided to go online and look for « Help me find my ring » and up came theringfinders.com and one of my stories. She was given hope as she read a few of the posts and thought maybe I could help find her lost ring.

So I began by scanning Renee’s platinum wedding ring with my Garrett ATMax metal detector to get an idea of the numbers and type of signal I needed to listen for. There were allot of junk targets here and there and most of the items registered too deep in the ground to be her ring. Recently lost rings will normally give a good, sharp, clean signal and will only be an inch or two deep in the grass at the most. Unless of course they get stepped on or are laying on edge somehow. I always check out any signal that registers even close to what I am looking for because many times pull tabs, nickels and pieces of aluminum can sound just like a ladies ring. 20 minutes later I got a really nice, shallow, repeatable signal in the thick grass at the edge of a large Bald Cypress tree and there was Renee’s lost engagement ring. I held it up and said, « Hey, hey, hey!! » and Renee could not get to me fast enough to claim her precious lost ring! What a relief and joy spread across Renee’s face!

It was an honor to help Renee and her husband and hopefully her ring will continue to last for many more years.

Lost a ring or something valuable? Or maybe you would like to know what is hidden in your yard or whatever happened to Grampa’s buried coins? Give me a call?
