Lost Ring… Bolsa Chica State Beach, CA… In Surf

I got a call this afternoon at 4pm from Joshua. He had been at Bolsa Chica State Beach last Friday 7-12-13.  Between 9 and 9:30 pm. Friday night he was in the surf about knee deep water when he felt his ring slip off into the water. I was able to get good directions from Josh and I calculated the approximate tide conditions at the time he lost the ring. The tide was about 3 ft high when he lost it. There had been 6 high tides of 4 to 4.5 ft during the 3 days sense losing the ring. I decided to try catching the falling tide this evening it will be 1.7ft at 10pm.  I started at 6 pm.

This beach has soft sand and slopes at a steep angle. It also has a lot of black sand that makes it a challenge for metal detecting. I wasn’t about to go into the wet surf as long as the tide was still going out and my past finds have been fairly close to where they were dropped. While waiting for the tide to fall I went away from the main search area. At 8:15pm..  Bam ! I got a signal and it was Josh’s ring , 7 inches deep..  The ring was 50 yards south of where it was dropped, but did not seem to wash down into the lower surf. Basically it just got pushed 50 yards south. I sent a photo of the ring to Josh and we set up a meeting to return his ring. He told me the ring was very sentimental because, he had bought in Jerusalem, Israel several years ago on vacation.

I was nice to meet Josh and I’m glad to be able to return his ring.. I had to stay possitive because 3 days in the surf is tuff. The waves and the sand change by the hour and 8 or 9 inches is more or less the limit of most metal detectors for ring sized objects.

The client provided the following information on the lost ring:

The ring has an antique look with the largest diamond in the center and
two smaller diamonds on each side of the largest.  There are also
numerous tiny diamonds in the design of the ring wrapping around the
three center diamonds mentioned above.  The ring is white gold.

The ring was lost in a specific area on the Texas Coast, neither the owner or I have given up hope of a recovery. Planning another trip soon.

Today was going to be my day to catch up on my emails and surf the metal detector websites. I got a call from Mathew at 8:30am. His wife, Lindsay had lost her ring last night near the fire rings at Corona Del Mar City Beach. When she took off her sweater she felt her ring fall off into the sand. They had spent the evening sifting the sand with a house window screen without success. He had found The RingFinders on a google search for lost rings and after calling one of our members in Delaware. He found my name in the California cities of our directory. After telling me what had happened and the general area it was dropped, he wanted to know how our service worked. I told him not to worry. I was only 2 miles from where the ring was lost. He seemed to be concerned if he could trust me. I told him I have found and returned many valuable pieces of jewelery and I don’t need another ring. The most important thing is to get over to the location before the sand sifting machine or another detectorist finds the ring without having his contact information. Mathew gave me a more detailed discription of the location and I jumped in my truck and was at Corona Del Mar Beach within ten minutes. Another ten minutes of swingging the detector and I had a beautiful platinum diamond ring in my scoop.. Ring found 30 minutes after phone call.

I sent Mathew a text message with a picture of Lindsay’s platinum ring. He drove 25 miles to meet me on the beach to pick up the ring. I got to metal detect around the rest of the fire rings on this beautiful morning with people asking me if I found anything good today. Of course I give my standard answer,  » It’s not too good today, a few quaters, dimes and lots of pull tabs »  I’m busting to tell everybody but it makes for too much attention..

When Mathew got there he came up to me and gave me a Big « John Wayne hug ».. I know now,  what a « Real Thank You » sounds like.  I told him a few other ring find stories and wished he and his wife Lindsay the best of luck.  After he left I got a phone call from Lindsay thanking me for finding her ring.. I love meeting new people . I believe that people are put into your life for a special reason.

Lost Man’s Gold Wedding Band in the Surf… Del Mar Beach, CA, .. found

I was in Newport Beach sitting with a couple thousand people getting ready for a 4th of July fireworks display. I had rested up all day thinking I would detect the beach after the people left. That’s when Isaiah called saying he had just lost his wedding ring. I asked him where he was calling from and he told me Del Mar Beach which is near San Diego. He was in the water about chest deep and said he never went in water over his head. He didn’t feel the ring fall off, but he was certain that it was lost in the water. I told him that it was a long drive and he could locate another member of  The RingFinders in our directory and if he couldn’t get them I’d come search.

After finishing the call, I went to my tide chart app on my trusty iPhone. He lost it only a couple minutes before calling me which was approximately 5 ft high tide begining to fall to a minus tide at 3 am. I called Isaiah back and told him the tides would be perfect to try to search for his ring tonight and I would be there at 12:30am. He said he could be there about a half hour later and was going to try to rest because he had to work in the morning. After arriving in the dark of the night, I began my grid search as the tide reseded. He had given me a good idea of where he was when he lost the ring but I extended the search area 50 yards each side . At 1:00am Isaiah and his brother in law showed up. He pin pointed the location where he had been and I changed my grid search towards the water and away from the water.  They went off with their flashlights looking in the surf. After 10 or 15 minutes I got that special gold tone and there was a beautiful gold ring in about 3 inches under the wet sand.  I walked up to Isaiah and asked him how big was the ring and if it was gold. Then,  asked him to hold out his hand. He looked at me puzzeled, but he held out is hand. That’s when I dropped it in his hand. I did not expect him to be so emotional, it must have ment a lot to him. After gaining our composure all three of us started shaking hands and celebrating the find. Another special night and meeting people I will not forget..

I received a phone call at 7:30 am on May 27th 2013 regarding a Platinum Wedding  set that had been lost the day before on May 26th 2013 in the sand at Rehoboth Beach, Del. The story was that the couple were celebrating their wedding anniversary on May 26th and that they were at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The owner had taken her rings off and placed them in her lap in order to put suntan lotion on the couples child. Forgetting that she had placed the rings in her lap she stood up and the rings fell into the sand. There were attempts made to recover the rings by sifting the sand, but the rings were not to be found. Upon getting the phone call I arrived at the beach about an hour later only to find that the beach had been raked by the city workers using a tractor and a sand rake. My fear was that the rings had either been gobbled up by the sand rake or that they had been carried in an unknown direction down the beach by the sand rake. I began my search in an area that was pointed out by the ring owners husband with negative results. I then adjusted the area of my search due to the husband believing that they had been closer to the water than he originally thought. The husband left the beach in order to help his wife pack as they were to leave to go back  home on this day, I told him that I would call him with the results of the search. The husband had’nt made it back to his parked car before I recovered the 1kt diamond Platinum ring right in the area where I began my second search. I called him and told him that he might want to come back down to the beach which he did and at that time I returned the recovered ring to him. I then conducted a spiral search from the area that the diamond ring was found and I failed to locate the wedding band. I then searched north of that same location without recovering the band. Then a search of the area to the south of the recovered diamond ring resulted in the recovery of the wedding band sixty feet south of where the diamond was recovered. It appeared that the sand rake had moved the wedding band from the area of where it had been dropped. I actually saw several of the small diamonds on the wedding band glistening in the sunshine before my metal detector passed over top of it. A small portion of the top of the wedding band was exposed just above its hiding place in the sand. The wedding band was recovered and returned to its rightful owner. Another anniversary saved by the Ringfinders!

Lost Gold Wedding Ring… Long Beach, CA… Found

This afternoon about 5pm I got a call and an email from Krista. She had been at Mother’s Beach in Long Beach, CA. with her two young daughters. Krista took her diamond wedding ring off and set it on her lap while she put sun screen on her daaughter. About a half hour later she realized she had not put it back on and it was somewhere in the dry sand. They searched through the sand for a long time and could not find her ring. When she got home Krista found my contact information on  » The RingFinders » website and called me.   We met at the beach about 7pm and I set up a grid search. By 7:30pm I got that special gold tone and when I scooped up the target there was her ring.  Now the ring is back on her finger where it belongs.

The highlite of this search was when Krista’s young daughter came up to me and said, « Thanks for finding my mother’s ring » The little girl is only about 5 or 6 years old.. It was a special thanks and there were smiles on everybody’s faces. Even all the spectators..

Lost Diamond Ring… Bolsa Chica State Beach, CA… Found

Last Saturday at 9 am I received a phone call from Amanda and Adam. They were at Bolsa Chica State Beach and had borrowed a metal detector to find a ring that she lost Friday afternoon. She was standing in about ankle deep water and went to brush some sand to off her leg. That is when her beautiful ring went flying into the water. Amada reached down just as a wave broke in front of her. They searched till 8pm that night and returned the next morning. Saturday morning about 9am she found  » The RingFinders » online and called me. I was able to get  her location about 10am and the tide was going out. I searched till the lowest tide with no success. Sunday morning was a minus tide, so I came again Sunday at 6am. This beach is soft sand and has a very steep slope. It was very difficult to be positive about finding this ring as the sand can build up more than a foot in one tide.  After 4 hours of searching as the tide came in, still no success. I watched Adam swinging his detector and Amanda walking back and forth on the beach the whole day. I told her that I had given it my best effort and it was hard to tell her that the ring may have worked itself too deep to detect.

I went home feeling I had done my best to find that ring and it was not the best experience watching Amanda and Adam trying so hard to find the ring.. That night I checked the tides and it was going to be a 6.8 ft high tide with a minus tide in the morning.  8:30am  SUCCESS !! I found it about 6 inches deep.

They were unaware that I decided to give it one more try, so when I sent Amanda a text message  with a picture of her ring asking her to call me, I bet the house was crazy.  We met at about 10 am and they were sooo happy.

I know a lot about metal detecting in the surf and this ring had been through 3 super high tides and 3 medium high tides on a steep sloping, soft sand beach and I don’t believe I was able to find it.  This was a awesome search and I’m still amazed ( 40% Skill and 60% Luck )

Lost Gold Wedding Ring..Laguna Beach, CA… Recovered

The day before finishing their beach vacation, Taylor lost his gold wedding ring.

This morning about 9:00am, I received a call from Taylor asking me if I could help him find his wedding ring he lost yesterday on the beach. He was searching the internet for a metal detector when he found The RingFinders and my phone number. I was able to meet him about an hour later.

He and his family had been vacationing in South Laguna Beach and had spent the day on the beach. He had taken his ring off and put it into the cup holder of his folding beach chair. When they got ready to leave he picked up his chair and walked to the parking area.  (about 200 ft.)  That was when he realized that he had lost his ring.  Taylor was able to give me very good idea of where they were sitting and that made it very easy to find his ring. He and his wife were very happy and by now they are back home in Utah. I’ve found a lot of rings for people and I still get excited when I can help people like Taylor and his wife find their ring. Their little daughter is still trying to figure out what was the big deal.

Lost gold Mason ring recovered, LaPorte, IN

Got a call about a lost Mason’s ring at a yacht club in 10-12ft of water. The person was securing his pontoon to the dock and the ring slipped off onto the abyss. He had worn the ring for the last 40 years and he planned to hand it down to his son in the future.

Joe searched on the internet in hopes of finding someone in the area that may be able to help find his lost ring from the lake bottom.  He quickly found the Ring Finders site, and shortly after was on the phone with me, asking if I could help.

Made the arrangements, grabbed  my dive gear out of storage, did some gear checks and got on the road to LaPorte.
Things were lookin bad right from the get go, really choppy conditions up top, and then who would have thought there would have been hundreds of unfired 22 and 357 rounds scattered everywhere under this boat slip, right in the core search area.
Since I never imagined so many targets in that small area, I didn’t bring my mesh finds bag, so after stuffing my wetsuit with the rounds, I  was about to call it and arrange a future trip to try another recovery technique,  but decided to try just a little longer… Good thing, literally on my last scan with the pinpointer I found the ring.  Joe was a happy camper!

Diamond Ring Found… Seal Beach, CA.

Annika called me at 11:30am , just as I was leaving my place to go metal detecting. I was able to meet her at 12 noon it was only  a 14 mile  drive. She was in Seal Beach and had lost her diamond wedding ring while teaching a fitness class on the beach. This is her regular job and she always puts her rings in a zippered pocket in her workout pants. This time she had not zipped it totally closed and one of her rings fell out into the sand while doing some of the exercises. It was lost in an area about half the size of a football field.  I started  in the middle of the field and began a spiral type grid. It took an hour and a half to locate the beautiful ring. Everyone was happy and there were plenty of smiles.  This was another time we beat the city sand sifting machine to get the ring..
