Ring lost at La Jolla Shores found

Annabelle was at La Jolla Shores surfing when, while ducking under an incoming wave, her hard earned graduation ring popped off her finger and plunged in the waist deep surf. After an online search, Annabelle’s mother Ginny, called me about an hour and half later to see if I could help. Do beaches eat rings? Sure I could! At least I would give it the old college try! Surf hunts are never easy, and with a storm southwest of us causing some bigger surf, this was going to be an extra challenge. I picked 11:30pm as a time to meet, as low tide was going to be coming up at 1:15am. Annabelle lost her ring about and hour and fifteen minutes from +5.9 high tide, so, with a -.01 low tide coming up, the ring should only be in very shallow water or wet sand. I met with Ginny, Annabelle, and her two brothers on time and we proceeded to the search area. As I suspected, the surf was not going to cooperate. Rouge waves kept blasting up the wet sand wiping out my grid marks, and after a half hour and a few tries going from beach to breakers, I gave up on that plan and tried running parallel to the shore where I was able to take some bearings from lights off in the distance to help keep me on a straight line. After another 15 minutes and not finding a single non-ferrous target all night, I got a nice solid 10 on my Equinox in ankle deep water. One scoop later, and I see a nice looking ring in the basket. I walked over to Annabelle and Ginny and asked if this was THE ONE. Annabelle picked up the ring in relief, joy, and disbelief. A pleasure to meet you all, and thank you for the reward.

I received a call that she had lost her engagement ring while doing her normal daily activities around the house. From watering the flowers around the yard, pulling weeds, walking to the neighbors and getting in and out of the car. After searching the yard, there the ring appeared in the grass. She was very happy to have the ring returned to her to enjoy the many years to come.

Man’s Gold Wedding Band Lost on Bald Head Island NC – Found and Returned

This little adventure started when I got a text message from Chuck on Aug 26th that read “Hi Jim, I lost my wedding ring on Bald Head Island’s east beach last night about an hour after low tide (just when it got dark). I have a very good sense of where it went down but no equipment to search for it before our vacation ends on Saturday. I don’t see BHI on your list of locations, but I’m wondering if you know any detectionists who do work on the island. Thanks for your time!” When someone tells me they lost a ring at low tide, I immediately suspect they were waist to chest deep. Luckily, not in this case though. I responded back to Chuck asking how deep he was and what type ring he lost. Never being to the island, I had no idea what I was up against or how to get there. I contacted 3 other area TRF members, Steven Ray, John Finnerin, and Matt Fry to see what they knew about Bald Head Island. I got enough information from the 3 of them to piece everything together, so when Chuck text me back that he was only ankle deep I had a game plan. I called Chuck and told him I could get an early start the next morning, make the hour plus drive up to the ferry terminal, catch the 7am ferry, and be there before the low tide at 9am. The only thing I needed from him was to pick me up at the island ferry terminal, and take me to where he lost his ring. He readily agreed, so the plan was set.

This morning when the alarm went off at 5am, I realized that now that I’m retired, this is really an un-Godly hour of the day. Nevertheless, the plan worked and Chuck and his father-in-law were sitting in a golf cart (the only 4 wheel transportation on the island) waiting for me when the ferry tied up. Chuck drove us out to the beach access where he lost it, and as we’re walking out to the beach, I asked him how he lost it. He explained that the family was sitting near a sea turtle nest waiting for the hatchlings to make their way out of the nest and head for the ocean. At one point Chuck went to the water’s edge to wash the sand off his hands and when he shook his hands his ring flew off, straight down, and disappeared into the wet sand. Chuck knew exactly where it happened and had a landmark he made up in the dry sand. I turned the Equinox 800 on and went to work, doing 5 parallel grid lines down towards the outgoing tide line. When my lines started getting washed away, I changed to perpendicular grid lines. I started at the point Chuck had showed me and went both east and west expanding the search area. I wasn’t having any luck so I changed to my second machine, which I’ve learned to bring along just in case. I turned the White’s PI on and started at the same point Chuck had originally showed me. I think it was on my 2nd line, I hit a great signal. I dug a couple of scoops, got the target out of the hole and in the scoop, washed the sand out in the surf and there was Chuck’s ring. I did a little dance up towards Chuck and he knew I had it. I let him reach in the scoop and pull it out. It took me at least an extra 30 minutes, because I just missed it on the first pass when I must have zigged instead of zagged, but Chuck’s ring is back where it belongs. Now the family’s drive home will be much more enjoyable.

Ladies class ring lost 19 years, returned

I was looking for a lost ring at Beechpoint Christian Campground at Dumont Lake in Allegan, Michigan last week, when I recovered a 2001 class ring from Lourdes High School in Chicago, Illinois. I haven’t found the original ring I was looking for yet but I found a great story with this class ring. There was a name inscribed inside the ring DaVonia C. F. so I looked her up on Facebook and sent her a message. After contacting several of her friends from FB, she was convinced this was not a scam. After taking the ring to my friend, Kenneth, from Russell and Ballard Jewelers to get cleaned, I called the local Fox 17 TV station and asked them if they would like to run a feel good story. I set up a time today to drive the 360 mile round trip from Grand Rapids, MI to Chicago where DaVonia lives and works to present her with her ring. I contacted Fox 32 TV station in Chicago to meet us at her work. After an interview and pictures we parted company and friends forever. I feel pretty good that at age 75 I can still make the ladies cry.

White gold Wedding Band ring lost at Oleta Park , Florida… found and returned to the owner

I got a call to find a white gold wedding band by a man. he wanted to wait to go to find it. I thought that it was ok to wait. Due to bad weather conditions and the fact that it was a state park. He was reviewing his videos of his  outing at the park to see exactly where he lost it. he changed the search location slightly by one exit . Then back again to the original. I then found it after about 10 minutes of searching . I was soo happy That I was able to find his wedding band.

How to find a Manhole Cover or Water Turn Off Valve with a Metal Detector.

Over the years I have been hired by contractors to find buried manhole covers and water turn off valves. I have the best equipment and over 45 years of experience in finding lost items, such as diamond engagement rings and gold & platinum wedding bands.

Sometimes locating a water turn off valve can be just as important to find as a diamond ring, for some people… Especially if your basement is flooding and you can’t find the turn off valve.

In the pictures below both the water turn off valve and manhole cover were accidentally covered up by grass and gravel.

Large mens Gold Wedding Band Lost & Found On Durley Chine Beach

Kim & his wife visited the beach one bright sunny afternoon. Swimming around in chest deep water the ring slipped from his finger & was only noticed when returning to the shore. He & his wife had given up any chance of finding it until they read an article in the national newspaper of myself & theringfinders.com

Meeting him at the location it had already been many days under the water & our chance of recovery were low I felt. After an hour searching nothing showed & we parted thinking ‘its lost’.

Not wishing to give up I tried one more time meticulousely scanning with the CTX3030 on a wet sand mode even extending the search bounderies we had set. After about two hours, suddenly, just outside one boundary came a faint signal. A scoop or two later a stronger signal until… there it was!

Finding that ‘impossible ring’ is what fuels the desire to not give up too early. Kim & his wife who recently become proud grandparets were delighted to have it back & made a generous donation to the Margaret Green Animal Rescue Charity.

I received a call last night from a young lady who said she lost her ring in the backyard. After asking my typical questions and waiting a few hours until it got dark, so she could search with a flashlight, I received a text message asking to come the next morning to find her ring.

The flashlight idea didn’t work this time, it has in the past, diamonds are heavy and go straight into the grass covering up most of the diamonds and only leaving a part of the gold band exposed.

When I got to the house at nine in the morning Colleen was there to greet me and show me where they believed the ring was lost. I recently hurt my back and have a very hard time walking these days, herniated disc & sciatic nerve damage. I was hoping this search was going to be as easy as it sounded on the phone. That being said, I’ve been fooled many times in the past, where the search sounded like it should only take minutes, sometimes take hours to find.

Well thankfully that wasn’t the case, this search took only a minute to find, I was so happy it showed up quickly for my back and for Colleen’s heart!

Heirloom ring recovered at South Haven, Michigan North Beach

I got a call from my friend Tom C. needing help finding a Platinum ring, with diamonds, lost in the surf. We went down at 6 AM before light to make sure we were the first ones in the water. Adam B. and his bride to be, Rosie, were playing volleyball in the water when she hit the ball and shot the ring off her finger. We searched for 2 hours when I got a good signal in about 4 feet of water just under the sand. I showed the ring to Tom and we immediately called Adam who was in Chicago and Adam said « We will be there in 2 hours ». What a beautiful and happy couple. Adam said, « we were angels sent from God to be in the right place at the right time ». The ring was given to him by his mother so he immediately called her, in New York, and said it was recovered. After many pictures, hugs and smiles we all went our own ways. Not before giving 2 warnings to Rosie 1. Get it insured and 2. Never wear it in the water.

Precious watch recovered

I was contacted by James this morning hoping I could find the lost watch his son had lost after he fell off the bike he was riding in a field the previous evening .
Upon arrival they showed me the rough area of his fall , my Equinox 800 with the stock coil fitted located the precious watch within 15 minutes, it is always great to see the happy relived smiles of of someone being reunited with their property , all thanks to ring finders .com
