Ring Lost after Jumping Off Roof .. Malibu, CA. .. Found

Olivia called me asking if I could help her find a lost gold ring. I asked her for some details, where, when and how. She said it was lost two days before when she jumped off a roof in her backyard. She felt it fly off her finger as she landed on the ground. Because it was not a public place and she was certain that the ring flew off her finger at that moment, we decided to meet the next day.

It always a mystery what kind of search area I will find when I get to the location. I was a little concerned why Olivia would be jumping off a roof and how she didn’t injure herself. Olivia couldn’t meet me, but had her friends meet me. When I met her friends Bethany and Sam the next morning, they showed me a small storage shed that was built into a slope hillside planter. The roof was only about 3 feet above the planter with landscape plants.
Several people had searched for the ring, looking at the dirt around the foliage. They felt that possibly the ring was in the plants or someone had stepped on the ring, burying it in the soft soil. I set up my Minelab CTX detector with a 6″ coil planning to grid search around all the plants. Then I would use my pinpointer to go through each of a dozen plants.
Halfway through my search over the soil around the plants, Sam walked over to asked me how I was doing. As he stood there looking at planter in front of where I standing, he saw the gold ring glimmer in the afternoon sunlight. It was 3 or 4 feet in front of the direction of my grid.
It was not laying flat on its side in the soil. The ring had landed with the round flat side down, making it difficult to see when looking straight down.
This not the first time someone else spotted the ring before I got my coil over it, but the main thing is that the ring is back where it belongs. Bethany and Sam were happy that we had found Olivia’s very sentimental ring. I love being able to help people find their lost keepsakes.

Ring Lost at Trapeze School .. Santa Monica, CA. .. Found Under Pier

Friday night Philip had been attending a session at a Trapeze School of New York located on the Santa Monica Pier. They have a place to put their street shoes and valuables. Unfortunately, when Philip retrieved his ring from his shoe, where he had put it while training on the trapeze, he dropped his palladium wedding ring on the wooden pier. It bounced and rolled right through a crack in the planking dropping 25 feet to the dry sand below the pier.
The city beach maintenance department attempted the look for the ring the next day, thinking it may have landed one of the maintenance catwalks or hung up in the netting used to control pigeons nesting under the pier. After not finding the ring the city crew suggested Philip Google search TheRingFinders.com online.
Philip contacted me explaining what happened and that he would not be available to meet me at the location, but he would be able talk to me on the phone if I had any other questions. I called him as I got close to where I thought he first described to me. He talked me into finding the location of the Trapeze school. They showed me where the ring had fallen through the pier. This pier is probably 300 ft wide and I had to take some reference points, hoping get near the exact location under the pier.
It was dark and spooky under the pier, definitely a place not to be at night. There was a lot of electrical interference with my metal detector, but I was able to tune most of that out with a few adjustments. Twenty minutes of searching was all it took to find the ring.
I sent Philip a photo of his ring and I was able to return the ring an hour later. It was great to see how happy he was to get his ring back where it belongs.

Lost Keys in Grass at Local Park .. San Clemente, CA. .. Found after Three Days

Rick, a detectorist friend of mine called me with a referral to help Joan find a set keys lost three days ago. When I talked to Joan on the phone it seemed like too much time had passed to locate the set of keys that had to be laying on the surface. It’s not possible to make that judgement without taking a look and discussing the details. One of my mottos is  » I will try anywhere « , so I met Joan at the park in the afternoon.
Three days before she had been walking her dog when she lost her car ($275 replacement value). She remembered where she had last seen it and when she realized it was missing. After trying to rake the grass and methodically walking the area for two days. She called asking for help.
We walked the area before I set up my detector to start a grid search. I purposely started a search outside the area she had raked and searched. I covered almost 50 x 75 yard area with no success.
When Joan returned I gave her the bad news. I showed her the exact area where the key could not be. We discussed options she could try to locate the keys as we walked back through an area 50 yards from where she thought she lost the keys. Then she lets out a scream of joy! There they are, laying right on top of the grass.. Anybody could have seen them if they passed within 20 feet.. It was great to be able to help Joan find her keys, but it shows how you have to stay positive and think outside the box.. Joan gave me the credit for helping her find her lost item.

Lost Ring in Sand Playing Football .. Newport Beach, CA.

The sun was setting when I received a call from Gary’s wife. They had been visiting friends who live on the beachfront in Newport Beach. She told me that her husband had lost his wedding ring in the sand.
When I got the call, I was detecting in Laguna Beach. It took me about 15 minutes to get back to my vehicle and another 30 minutes to drive the 13 miles to their location.
Gary was there to explain how he had been playing football, when one of the kids grabbed his hand, pulling the ring off into the sand. The area was only 30×40 ft. square. Should have been an easy search, but after cross gridding three times. It was not looking good.
Gary walked up to me, saying he had to leave. I knew that the ring was not in the location that he had laid out. Asking him where else he had been, he pointed off to the right of the place where he thought it got pulled off his finger. It was getting cold but I would not leave till I covered the whole playing area.
I started a new grid pattern at the far side of the field. Two passes, then the magic sound of a gold ring in my ear phones proved to be the missing ring. Everybody was still in the house saying their good-byes, when I walked up to the house to give them the good news.
This was a classic search. Everybody was so positive that the ring had come off after his hand was grabbed. Actually it had fallen off more than 50 feet from that event. It’s my experience that kept me searching, when they had given up hope that I could find it. Again, I was still as surprised as they were.
A very nice family and you can see the smile on Gary’s face showing he was happy to have his ring recovered. He did apologize for putting me in the wrong place. I assured him this happens often, it’s part of the challenge.

I was looking through Craigslist in the morning when I saw this post from Lauren:

I was playing football on the sand, by balboa fire pits, wearing my priceless necklace last week and the cross broke and came off the chain. I know I should not have been playing football in it, but I have worn it everyday since my grandma(who passed away) gave it to me years ago. I literally never take it off. It is so special to me, I am willing to give a reward! Please please let me know if you found it, and I am willing to meet anywhere. It means the world to me and I am devastated. Please be honest and give it back. I am willing to pay a reward. Thank you so much!!! I have been praying everyday and my whole small group has been praying too so please answer our prayers!

I replied to the post, saying that I would like to help find the cross, but would need to get better details. After a couple hours, I had not received a reply.. I live just a couple miles away from this beach and have an annual pass for parking, so I decided to go try to find the cross.
When I arrived at the general location there was a large skip loader tractor moving sand from the area where most people play football. It was still worth a try so I started searching the far edge of the field. After an hour the tractor finished moving sand. That opened up more area to search, but I didn’t have much hope.. Then I got a good signal which turned out to be a gold cross.
This had to be Lauren’s cross, what are the chances of there being more than one cross in that location. I sent a reply to the Craigslist email contact link, saying I believe that I have found your cross including my phone number and email information.
I did not get a reply all Thanksgiving day which started me to think that I wasn’t going to be able to return this cherished family heirloom. That night I posted a  » Found Gold Cross Balboa fire pits  » on Craigslist. Friday morning Brian, one of Lauren’s friends contacted me. After talking with him and sending a photo of the cross we determined it was not Lauren’s cross.
During our phone conversation I was able to get better directions as to where they had been playing. It was a hundred yards to the north of where the tractor was moving sand.. I was more positive about finding this gold cross this time. After returning to search it only took about 45 minutes till I got a 12-02 reading (normally a tinfoil signal) on my CTX 3030. Wow! What a surprise, it was a beautiful white gold cross with 11 nice diamonds. Sent them a picture of the cross via text message.
They live 60 miles across town, so we arranged a meeting place two days later.
It was a special type search with several twists and turns. ( 3 crosses were found in total) This is so awesome to be able to help people find their sentimental keepsakes.

Lost Platinum Diamond Wedding Ring .. Westwood, CA. .. Found

Laycee called me 11-3-15 four days after losing her diamond wedding band. It was custom made with 3 diamonds from her grandmother’s ring and the platinum setting was designed by her husband. « Irreplaceable  »
She could only tell me that it was lost sometime during the family annual Halloween party at her house.
After spending the last four days thoroughly searching the house and the backyard. Laycee and her husband Jacob discussed renting a metal detector to check the lawn and the planters. While searching online they came upon our directory of metal detector specialists. Calling me with a few questions about how service, we set up a time that I could meet them at the house the next morning.
I met them early as they both had things to do later in the day. We talked about what activities Laycee had been doing that may have caused the loss of the ring. It had been a busy day preparing for the party and doing hosting. She did remember showing her niece how to do cart wheels on the lawn..
I started on the lawn which was dried up, because we have a drought in So. Calif. with watering restrictions. The grass was sparse and they had searched it several times. The lawn area was only 40ft.x40ft. so it didn’t take much time to grid it with my CTX 3030. Just as I reached the last grid pass I heard a good signal, looking down in plain view, I could see the ring in the dried gray grass.
I went back to the house calling Laycee to the door giving her the good news. She was in shock, telling me that this was the happiest she has been in a long time. It was an emotional time for her, even as I left she was still amazed that it was not lost forever.. I love helping people find missing sentimental keepsakes.

Diamond Ring Lost While Gardening .. Newport Beach, CA.

Irene had been gardening Wednesday morning when she noticed her diamond wedding ring missing from her finger. The last she remembered seeing it was the day before, so it could have also been lost in the backyard where she had done another cleanup project.
Irene had worn this ring for over 30 years, a gift from her husband, who had recently passed away. She was very distraught, so she called her daughter, Karen to help her. They spent several hours checking the house and everyplace that it could be visible by eye. Because Irene had spent so much time in the gardens they both felt it had to be in the freshly tilled soil.
Karen went to the internet to explore chances of getting a metal detector expert. She found TheRingFinders.com and my contact information. I was able to meet them within a hour.
We spent a few minutes discussing the what actions might have caused the loss of the ring and explaining how the metal detector works. Then we walked to all the places Irene had been outside sense yesterday, gardens in front, along the side of the house and a lawn in the backyard. I now could get my detector and set up it up for the search.
As we walked back along the side of the house to get my detector, Irene spotted her ring in plain site on the side walk. All three of us walked over it at least once. They thought that it may have been hiding behind a box of leaves that she had moved off the sidewalk.
It doesn’t matter how we found the ring. What’s most important is that the ring is back where it belongs.
Another thing to remember is, that it’s not always about using the metal detector. Many searches will just prove that the lost article is not in that location. When a ring can’t be found with my detector. I always tell the people to check their washing machine and clothes dryer, pockets, purses, etc.

Sunday 10:00 am first call from Jeff

« I think my ring came off while playing with my kid on the swings at Santa Monica Beach. »

Jeff called me late Sunday morning about 10:00am. He had been at Santa Monica Beach Saturday afternoon with his family. After returning home he discovered his rose gold wedding band was missing. He believed it may have come off while pushing his son on the swings in a public recreation area on the sand, located just a couple blocks south of the Santa Monica pier.

This part of the beach is a high use recreation zone. It gets bombed by metal detectors especially on weekends. I told Jeff that I would give it a try. Jeff couldn’t meet me but I knew exactly what swings he was talking about. I have the advantage over other detectorists. I know there is a ring lost near the swings.
It was about noon when I started my search. I had to time my search when people were not using the swings. It started out good, finding coins and one junk ring which is a sign that other detectorists have not worked these swings. After a few minutes I got the gold ring sound and VID reading that was alluding me. Digging the target with my sand scoop I could see Jeff’s rose gold wedding band in the scoop.
Sent a text photo to Jeff’s smart phone. He was able to meet me on the beach within 20 minutes. Thanking me for saving his marriage. I get that comment a lot. This was another learning opportunity for me. I will try anywhere, it doesn’t matter how many people may have detected the place. They can’t get everything.

Huntington DogBeach .. Opal Ring, a Gift from Grandfather .. Lost in Sand

I left my place early driving north on Pacific Coast Highway. Today would be my second attempt to find a ring lost two days before during low tide tower 28 Huntington DogBeach.
I was driving, when Allie’s grandfather Art called me just as I was leaving Newport Beach. The family was at Huntington DogBeach tower 22.  Allie had been brushing sand off her pants when her beautiful silver ring with an opal slipped off her finger into the dry sand. This ring was very special to her as it was a gift from her grandfather.
I was able to get a ring signal within a few minutes, but when I held a ring up for her to see,  it was not her ring. This has happened several times to me. I need to get a better description of the ring before I get everybody excited just to be disappointed.
Well it turned out to be a happy moment for Allie and the family a few minutes later, when I got another good signal that turned out to be a beautiful Opal in a silver ring. It was a nice day for all and a pleasure for me to help find the ring for Allie. She was so excited!
I was still able to get to my other search location a mile north of this location. Three hours later I found the diamond engagement ring lost in the wet sand two days before. Too much excitement for one day..

Engagement Proposal Gone Wrong .. Ring Lost in Surf .. Huntington Dogbeach, CA.

imageimage                   Matt and Tiffany were walking the beach at low tide watching the sunset. Matt had intentions of proposing to Tiffany by presenting her with a engagement ring. It is a very flat beach and they were well away from the waterline. Matt came up with an idea to put the ring under a shell, so when Tiffany picked it up, she would find the ring. Even though they were away from the waterline, a small surging wave came up washing over the shell and the ring. The ring immediately disappeared. As soon as the sand gets saturated it is actually like quick sand, the ring sinks out of sight. Most times it doesn’t go very deep at least for the first few days. They spent a couple hours searching frantically as the tide was coming in and darkness overtook them. After returning home, Matt went online to research buying or renting a metal detector. That is where he found theringfinders.com locating my contact information. We met for a few minutes the next day at the next low tide. After hearing a detailed story and checking the past tides, I set up my grid pattern.. Matt was very positive about the location of the loss. My concern was the size of the setting may help the waves move the ring great distances. After 4 hours with no success I had to abandon the search till the next low tide.. The next afternoon I started 3 hours before low tide working an area south of the yesterday’s search. Then reworking the original location finding very few targets. Exhausted with the tide coming in, I was making plans for the next day’s search. My plan was to return with my Excalibur detector and search waist deep at the next low tide. It was dark, so just before leaving I went 100 yards. north swinging randomly. That’s when I got the sweet sound of gold.. Five or six inches down I scooped the beautiful white gold diamond ring.. I sent a photo of the ring in my hand to Matt in a text.. He said he almost dropped his phone when he saw the picture. We met the next morning at Starbucks. Tiffany and Matt came together . I had put the ring in a jewelers ring box with a sea shell. I gave it to Matt and he gave it to Tiffany.. This was the first time she had seen the ring other than a photo.. What a beautiful day, I will never forget.. Thanks to Matt and Tiffany for sharing the special moment with them.. I love my service..
