On April 19, 2020, I went to Johnston to search for Mike’s wedding ring, while maintaining social distancing and wearing a mask. A friend, who I had recovered a ring for previously, referred Mike to me. He lost the ring in his back yard while doing yard work. He was upset that he had lost such a sentimental item. After searching for 4 hours, Mike was ready to throw in the towel. At that same time, I located the ring. Mike and his family were thrilled!
On February 3, 2020, I was contacted by Ryan from Portsmouth about a lost ring. He was doing some yard work at his home and lost a gold onyx ring. It was an heirloom that had been handed down to him by his mom, so he was anxious to recover the ring. After searching the yard for an hour and a half, I located the ring in a pile of brush. Ryan was very happy to have the ring back!
In September 2019, Jim called me for my help in finding a ring on the grounds of the Cumberland Monastery. The spinner ring held special meaning for Jim as it was a souvenir of a trip to Israel. It was lost while playing football with family. I located the ring in two minutes, barely time for him to drive off the grounds! Jim was thrilled to have this special ring returned to him.
During a snow storm in December 2019, Lee lost his rose gold wedding band while playing with his Labrador retriever. He was anxious to find his ring, so he purchased a metal detector. After unsuccessfully searching for his ring, Lee decided to turn to someone who was experienced in the use of a metal detector. It took about two hours for me to find the wedding band as Lee was not exactly sure where it was lost. Lee and his wife of less than two months were very happy to have the ring returned to them.
Andy contacted me in January 2020 and asked for help in finding his platinum wedding band. He was sure the ring was lost in his backyard a year prior while he was gardening. He accidently planted his ring in the ground along with some bulbs and bushes. Andy borrowed a metal detector but couldn’t locate the ring. After searching various areas for over two hours, I found the ring about six inches in the ground, close to where he had planted a rhododendron bush. Andy was excited to have his ring back. His wife exclaimed, « That’s awesome! You’re the man! ».
On Mother’s Day, I received a call from Brigid, an upset mother who had lost both her diamond and wedding rings. They were lost a day earlier while she was doing yard work. The next day I went to Brigid’s home to search for both rings. She described how she had been clearing brush and weeds, and lost the rings while piling up the refuse. After an hour of searching the yard, I located her wedding ring. It took an additional hour and a half to locate the diamond ring. Brigid described the recovery as « amazing ».
Andrew sent an e-mail to me on September 16th and asked for my help to find his wedding ring. He works on an organic farm and had lost his wedding ring while picking potatoes a day earlier. Andrew dug through the soil for over two hours with no luck. His boss told him that he may find someone who could help on the internet. Andrew found my information on The Ring Finders website. I met him at the farm on September 17th and located his ring in about ten minutes. Andrew was so excited to have his wedding ring back, particularly since he had only been married for two months.
On July 3rd, while metal detecting on Misquamicut Beach, I discovered an iPhone 7 buried in the sand. Once the iPhone was charged, it gave a phone number to call if the phone was found. Its owner had used a special application, which allowed him to put a message on his iPhone when it was lost. I called the number and connected with Anthony, the owner, who was very glad to hear from me. Anthony had lost the phone two days earlier. After searching the beach, he didn’t expect to get it back. He was in Boston when I called, and it was late evening, but he was happy to drive to Rhode Island to claim his phone.
In August 2016, while searching for a lost wedding ring in the water, I came across a Boston College ring buried underwater in the sand. Someone had tried to scratch out the owner’s name, but with the help of a magnifying glass, I was able to identify the name, Christopher P. Martin. I searched the internet and social media for months trying to find him. I even called Boston college twice to enlist their help in locating this graduate but that didn’t help. After six months of searching, I decided to contact WJAR Channel 10 to see if they could help me in my quest to find the owner of the ring, and they agreed. After the story aired on Channel 10, I still didn’t hear anything. My wife had an idea. Through the Boston College website, she connected with the Facebook of the Class of 1998. She messaged both Chris Martin and a college friend of his with a link to the Channel 10 story. Her detective work and the Channel 10 story paid off! The friend forwarded the link to Chris Martin, and he contacted me. Chris told me that his apartment was broken into about 15 years ago and his Boston College ring was stolen. He agreed to do a follow-up story about the ring return with Channel 10. With the help of my wife and Channel 10, I was able to reunite the ring with its owner. On February 25th, I received a somewhat frantic call from Lisa. Her custom-made diamond wedding ring-band had been missing for two weeks. It was last seen in a bathroom drawer in their house, and Lisa and her husband had been combing the house since that time. They assumed that their two-year old son had hidden the ring somewhere in the house or that he may have thrown it out of an open second-story window in his room. Lisa had learned of The Ring Finders from a friend and asked for my help with the search. I covered the area in the backyard directly under the window without any success. I also suggested that the ring may have landed on an eave or its gutter just below the second floor windows but would have needed a ladder of over twenty-feet to reach the area. We moved our search into the house, trying to imagine where a toddler would hide a ring. After searching through closets, drawers, under furniture, etc., I saw her son trying to stuff something through a small space in his parents’ bedroom window and suggested that he may have done the same with her ring. We opened the bedroom window, and Lisa hung out the window to check the eave and gutter, while I made sure that she didn’t fall out. She was shocked and ecstatic to find her ring on the eave right under the window.
