Surfer Lost Keys in Sand .. Huntington Beach, CA. .. Recovered with Metal Detector

While detecting at Huntington City Beach a lifeguard patrol vehicle drove up to me asking if I could help a surfer find his car keys. Most of the lifeguards know me and know I’m a member of TheRingFinders. I’m always willing to use my detector and my experience to help people who need help.
The lifeguard took me to Michael who was frantically digging in the sand where he had buried his keys before going surfing. This is not the first time I have seen this type of loss.

Michael was frustrated because he has done this many times before with no problem. He was beginning to think that somebody had seen him hide the keys and had taken them.

I have learned that key search metal detector settings should be an all metal mode. If not you might get a null instead a good tone. It depends on the materials the keys and the ring is made of.

I swung my detector coil around the inside of a 2 ft. deep hole that Michael had dug. On one side of the hole there was a positive signal. It turned out to be Michael’s car keys. Another happy surfer that didn’t have to have his car towed or pay for a locksmith to replace his keys. Both the lifeguard and Michael know how to get a metal detector expert if they need a ringfinder in the future. Lost Platinum Wedding Ring ..Huntington Beach, CA. .. Lifeguard Tower 18

Keith was at Huntington Beach with friends. They were throwing a football on the lower beach. As Keith dove forward to unsuccessfully try to catch the football his platinum wedding ring flew off his finger. He and his friends spent a couple hours searching the sand.
It was getting late when Keith’s brother Google searched the Internet for a metal detector specialist. They called me and I was just two miles away detecting on another beach. I asked them what lifeguard tower and was it lost in the water or sand.

It was only a few minutes when I parked bringing my XP Deus because it is fast and has been awesome finding platinum rings lately. When we talked on the beach the tide was coming in. Kieth said he thought his ring flew towards the upper dry sand embankment when he dove for the football. Because the tide was coming in I started at the waterline working toward the upper embankment. Thirty minutes later I had covered the whole area with no success. I ran back to my car to get my Minelab CTX metal detector because I needed to work the incoming tide. Ten minutes in shin high water I got a 12-15 ID reading. I scooped the signal, taking the sand and target up to Keith. I dumped the pile of sand at his feet telling him, your ring is in there. He retrieved his ring, breaking out with a big smile thanking me.

This is not the first time the ring went in the opposite direction everybody thought it had gone. Evidently the ring came off after he missed the ball with his arms going back towards the water. The pressure of the incoming tide made it a race to choose the most important areas to search first. Even though we knew the ring was somewhere in this location it got a little crazy when it didn’t show up as quick as other searches of this type.

Lost Wedding Ring Set .. Paradise Cove, Malibu, CA. .. Recovered

Fernanda had been at Paradise Cove Sunday with a bunch of friends and their kids. They had reserved a couple lounge chairs with umbrellas for the day. It was a beautiful day with friends to have a beach party. That evening at home Fernanda realized that her wedding ring set was not on her finger. Missing was a Platinum Diamond solitaire engagement ring and a White Gold with 10 small diamonds and she had not remembered taking them off or doing anything to cause them slip off her finger.

She searched the house and the car without succcess. Monday Fernanda and her husband, Julio drove back to the beach to search through the sand for the rings. Tuesday they located a guy with a detector to search the same area, but he was only able to search a short time late in the evening before he had to leave without finding the rings. He suggested that they call me.

When I got the call it sounded like a long shot, because she had been many places Sunday before she realized her rings were gone. On top of that, someone had tried searching the beach area with a metal detector. It was a 75 mile drive but I felt it would be worth the drive to see if the beach area had more possibilities for searching again with my metal detectors.

Fernanda and Julio met me at noon Wednesday. I had a feeling that she had hope that I could find the rings. On the other hand Julio seemed skeptical that the rings were here at the beach. After a quick run down on where Fernanda had been the day of the loss, I started to grid in front of the lounge chairs. My plan was to move the chairs forward after clearing the area. Then swung my XP Deus metal detector between and under the second set of chairs. Boom! The first ring, then a second swing Boom! The second ring in the scoop.

Both Fernanda and Julio had walked down to the water’s edge to give me a little space while I searched. I caught Fernanda’s eyes first and she ran up to me to see the prize in my scoop. Then came Julio who told me I made a believer out him because all the time he thought he was wasting his time. It as an exciting moment for all. It’s not hard to understand that it seemed impossible that we would find the rings when she had not remembered taking them off or doing anything to cause them slip from her finger. It paid off to try one more time.

Platinum Wedding Ring Found in Grass .. Newport Beach, CA.

Nate called me reminding me that I had found his platinum wedding ring two weeks ago, when his wife Julie had dropped it in the sand. This time he had lost the same ring in their backyard possibly in the lawn. I was at his house within a half hour.

Nate was throwing a large beach ball to his son two days ago when he felt the platinum ring leave his finger. Several people spent two days searching the grass, but there were also some planters with wood chip ground cover that could hide it
and Nate thought it may have gone over the fence.

The grass area was the easiest to eliminate as a possible hiding place, so I started at one end of the 20ft. x 50ft lawn. Boom! The ring was hiding in the first few feet of my grid search. It was at the base of the grass and completely out of site because it was probably stepped on into the damp topsoil.

It was great to be able t help Nate find his ring one more time. He will be taking it back to get it resized.

Lost Ring .. White Gold with Diamonds .. Downey, CA. .. Found in Tot Lot

Amber called me after Sharon found TheRingFinders website. Her first question was to ask about how the service works? Her concern was, that she wasn’t sure where her,white gold with diamonds,ring was lost. Amber and Sharon had been several places including a sandy totlot and Chucky Cheese amusement center in Downey, CA. Amber noticed the ring missing that evening after several hours away from the house.

Amber thought it was probably lost at the Chucky Cheese business which would not leave much hope to find it. Sharon believed that the ring was at the totlot in the sand. After hearing the list of events and knowing that Amber had not felt ring slip off. It was now just a matter of eliminating the sandy totlot before some other detectorist found it.

I was out of town but told Amber that I could be at the location before 4pm. She agreed to meet me at the location as I had told her, our chances of finding the ring are better if she can narrow the search area. Both Amber and Sharon were there when I started the search, I could tell Amber had not much hope of finding the ring. She had to leave for a few minutes, so Sharon was there when I found the ring near the children’s slide. When I held up the ring, Sharon broke out with a giant smile and her eyes lit up. Then we waited for Amber to show up. That’s when we were able to make it a second surprise moment. As we walked up to her, I asked her if she had been near the swings. As she was answering me Sharon held the beautiful gold w/ diamond ring up for Amber to see. Surprise, another big smile from Amber.  Sharon was right about the location.

They were so nice and appreciative. I enjoyed helping them and it was worth the extra drive to have a successful search.

Platinum Diamond Stud Ear Ring Lost For One Year… Found in Pea Gravel with Metal Detector

I received a call from Connie in Los Angeles, she told me that her mother in law, Priscella had misplaced a set of platinum/ diamond stud earrings almost a year ago. They were a gift for a special occasion over ten years ago and very sentimental to Priscella. After all the time that has past they had believed these ear rings were gone forever.

Fast forward ten months, Connie was visiting Priscilla and while sitting in a patio area Connie spotted the glimmer in the pea gravel that turned out to be one of the ear rings. They spent some time searching through the gravel for the other stud ear ring but not quite sure that the pair had been lost in the same location. To make things worse, the house had been sold. They would be leaving the property in two weeks.

After hearing the story I told her we had to give it a try. After all it wasn’t like she was sure both studs had been dropped in the same location.  I was available to meet her the next day.  Connie said, she would have the time to be there with the matching stud the next day at noon.

When I arrived we walked to the patio area where I set up my XP Deus metal detector with a hi frequency coil set at 74 KHz. The ladies went inside to take care of something. I began to search for « the needle in a haystack ». I immediately found two small pieces of wire, then Boom! One small platinum/ diamond stud ear ring that had been hiding for almost a year, looking at me from 2″or 3  » in the gravel.

I was at the table taking photos of the prize when Connie walked up behind me asking « What’s the best thing you have ever found » .. My answer was .. A diamond stud ear ring as I pointed to the esr ring
on the table. Hugs and excitement from both Priscella and Connie. They had not built up their hopes of finding the matching ear ring so finding it was an awesome surprise.

I won’t get to see Priscella’s husband when she surprises him this evening by just wearing them at the dinner table. It was another special search and recovery. Also a pleasure to meet and help such nice people.

Unique White/Yellow Gold Ring Lost .. Laguna Beach, CA. .. Found

Rachael called asking if I was available to search for a ring that was lost in dry sand at a small cove in South Laguna Beach. We didn’t talk much about what happened. I just told them I’d be there in a half hour.

Rachael was part of the group at a beach party put together by her friends, Shae and Jeff. They were playing a beach game called Spike Ball. Where a ball is bounced off a small trampoline hitting it by hand. Jeff swung at the ball and his heavy White/Yellow gold went flying.

They raked, sifted and used a borrowed metal detector to search for it. After hours Rachael began to search on line for ideas to find the ring. It took a while and several calls before she found my information on TheRingFinders.com.

Jeff showed me where he was standing when he felt the ring fly off his finger. From past experience I know how these rings can go to the most unexpected locations. I grid searched the area that Jeff thought the ring went. Then I asked them to move the beach chairs and unrelated back 15 feet. Boom! I got the loud sound of big gold. Everybody was surprised at how they had been sitting on the ring the whole time. This ring was very a unique blended white and yellow gold the was purchased years ago when they lived in Switzerland.

Nate called me from Crystal Cove State Beach which is located about five miles from my location. He had spent a couple hours trying to find his platinum wedding ring lost in the dry sand.

Nate had given his wedding ring to his wife, Julie while he went for a swim. Julie slipped it onto her finger as she has done before, but this time she didn’t put her ring on to secure it. When the ring slipped off her finger she felt it come off as soon happened.

Parking lot was full but I on my first pass a car was just leaving and I got a great parking space. Julie and Nate were keeping the area of the loss clear even though the beach was packed. It should be an easy search if the ring didn’t fly into one of the neighbors camp area.

Grid searching a 12’x 20′ zone, I was able to find the ring within 15 minutes. It was deeper than I expected because they had moved a lot of sand searching by hand. Julie was overjoyed and very emotional when I gave her thumbs up telling her I had it in my scoop. Both Nate and Julie thanked me. Sunday of Labor Day weekend, I was sitting near the office at the Newport Dunes RV Resort. Mike called asking if I could help him find his Platinum / White Gold wedding ring lost in dry sand. I asked him where he was located. He told me he was at the Newport Dunes on the beach. Couldn’t believe that I was less than 50 yards away. I walked over to talk to him, but had to go a couple blocks to get my detector.

When I returned Mike told me that he had put 3 rings in the cupholder of the beach chair and they fell out when picked up the chair. He found two of the rings but this one wouldn’t let him find it. The area was well marked off, so began a small grid search. Actually, I missed it on my first grid. It showed up in the scoop after I did a cross grid and it was a very scratchy signal, possibly because of the two different metals. The ring is mostly platinum with white gold filigree inlaid. I didn’t have time to re-scan the ring with my detector to learn why it was such an iffy signal. Possibly the ring was vertical in the sand which coming in from the other direction may have helped the signal? No time to play around we had photos to take for the book of smiles.

It was a good short search with smiles everywhere and Mike was grateful to have his wedding ring of 20 years back on his finger. I still can’t believe how close I was when he called.

Wedding Ring .. Zirconium Rose Gold with Black Diamonds .. Lost in Shrubbery at Cliff Restaurant .. Laguna Beach, CA.

Vip and Krishna are from the San Francisco Bay Area. They are visiting Laguna Beach on their vacation. While having lunch at the Cliff Restaurant, Vip’s Zirconium/ Rose Gold w/ black diamonds wedding band slipped off his finger falling into some dense Bougainvillea shrubbery. ( this plant has vicious thorns )

The staff at the restaurant helped him look for it and somebody suggested that he try to get a metal detector. Vip google searched metal detector and my name came up in TheRingFinders website. After calling me, I met them about 45 minutes after they called. The restaurant had one of the waitresses escort me to the lower deck where I could get behind the thick growth. I was hoping that the ring did not hang up in the dense upper growth. At ground level I couldn’t use my normal detector, even with a small sniper coil. Lots of obstacles and small metal trash.

I proceeded using a Garrett handheld pinpointer. After pulling out salt shaker tops, forks, bottle caps, etc., I reached under the Bougainvillea plants to pull out the dead leaves so I can scan them with the small pinpointer detector. While moving these dead leaves, I pulled the ring into an area that the waitress saw it as I began to detect the leaves.

There it is yelled the waitress! Many times one of the people helping finds the item while I’m searching. It doesn’t matter who finds it. It was just nice to see the smiles on Vip and Krishna’s faces, this is their first year of marriage and this ring very important to both them. Also losing a ring on vacation doesn’t make a good memory. Now they have a great story to add to this vacation.

It was a very ugly area to loose a ring you can see the area of the loss in the background of the photo. I was having second thoughts about how much time it would take to find this ring. Nevertheless it all worked out well with a successful find and smiles all around.
