Lost Key Manhattan Beach, CA…Found!

I received a call this morning from Jose who had lost his key while running on the beach. He knew where he lost it, in fact he saw it drop, yet was unable to recover it. It is amazing how fast something can disappear in the sand at the beach, and the sand at this beach is like powder. When I met him, he showed me the area of the drop, and I set up a perimeter to search. He was correct in the area of the drop, because it took all but about 5 minutes to find his key. I then mentioned that even if we were not able to find the key he could use his copy to get home in his car, when he informed me that this was the only key he had for this car. This information made me realize how imperative it was to find his key, because the cost to call out a locksmith would have been burdensome.

What a great opportunity it was to help Jose’ today.

Copper Bracelet lost at Redondo Beach, CA…Found!

I received a call today to get in touch with a man who had lost a bracelet. I called LC to find out about the loss. He explained to me that it is seemingly insignificant, but that there was a strong emotional attachment to it. When he explained to me what this bracelet meant to him (something only LC could share), I understood the emotion. Also he said that he was going to be seeing the person who had given it to him in the next week, so there was a sense of urgency involved as well. I happened to be in Huntington Beach, CA at the time so I knew the time element was working against me, and headed immediately to Redondo Beach. When I got there, the lifeguard showed me where they had been looking, so I concentrated my search in that area with no success. Soon after, a family that had been next to the search area left for the day, and I proceeded to search that area as well. Not two minutes later, the bracelet was in my hand. LC and I arranged to meet at a local coffee shop so I could return his bracelet. It was a time of joy for him to see what he wasn’t sure he would ever see again. So the story of this seemingly insignificant copper bracelet continues.

Lost Wedding Ring Redondo Beach…Found!

This morning at about 8:00, I received a call from a young lady telling me she had lost her wedding ring. I could hear the emotion in her voice, which let me know she was very distraught. She lost it the day before, and had searched for it herself and was not able to find it. We arranged to meet as soon as possible. I knew the area she lost it in, and also knew the beach cleaners worked that area meticulously, so I was a bit worried initially about being able to find it, knowing time is the enemy we deal with. When we walked down to the area she was in, and showed me the general location, I could see that the beach cleaners had not gone over that portion of the beach, so I was very encouraged. I set up a perimeter, and began my grid. I went out, and then came back, a foil lid, a dime, a penny, and then I heard that low growling sound in my earphones from my Minelab Excalibur ll. I was standing next to her when I pulled my scoop up to see what was inside, and looked at one of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry I have seen. I had showed her the foil, the dime, and the penny when I found them, so I imagine she expected the same when I reached into my scoop. All I can say is that the look of surprise, and joy which appeared on her face when I showed her what I had found was priceless. She and her husband had just gotten married last Summer, and there were some other things that made this ring very important to her. She said her husband had reassured her that it could be replaced, but she knew it would not be the same ring.

This nice young lady sent me the following email, wanting to share her experience as to what this recovery meant to her:

I lost my wedding ring at the beach on a Friday. My husband and I searched and searched the area with no success. It was a rough night to say the least. Early on Saturday morning I called the first 800 number I found after searching on the internet for help. I was in tears as the man I spoke with told me he could help me and gave me Steve Smith’s phone number. I was speaking with Steve minutes later and an hour later, Steve met me at the beach. Within ten minutes and three digs, I had my wedding ring back on my finger. I can’t even begin to express my gratitude for Steve. He was quick to respond, very professional, and successful in finding my ring. Thank you Steve!!!

So the story of this ring continues. I am so happy to be able to bring this joy to people.

Nicole’s Story

My son and I decided to take a spontaneous and quick (Thurs-Sun) road trip, just the 2 of us, to Southern California from the SF Bay Area. The plan was to spend 2 days at Disneyland and then make a stop in Manhattan Beach to see family on Sunday. Before noon on Saturday(day #2 at Disney), we were both wanting to go to the beach. So, we said goodbye to Mickey and headed for Newport. After a relaxing Saturday afternoon filled with a picnic lunch, boogey boarding, playing catch (lacrosse & baseball), we headed back to our hotel in Anaheim. It was there that I realized I did not have my wedding ring on my finger. I vaguely remember taking it off to apply sunscreen like I so often do, surely I’d remember to put it back on. Oops! So after shuffling through the multiple bags I had with me that day and stripping down the car I realized I must’ve lost it at the beach. Gone forever, or so I thought. Monday, back home in the Bay Area, I had a hairbrain idea to go online and check out Orange County Craigslist. On it, I posted an ad in the “lost & found” section stating: “Platinum Wedding Band lost at Newport Beach on Saturday.” Talk about a shot in the dark, a hail Mary! I never thought anything would come of it and had already begun looking online at new wedding bands but on Monday night, I had an e-mail from Stan with theringfinders.com asking me for more detail. I was able to narrow it down for him, I knew what block I parked in and about how far down the beach we were. I still thought it would be like finding a needle in a haystack. It’s

a BIG beach! Tuesday morning (3 days after losing my ring at the beach!) at 7:30am I got an email saying simply “I found your ring. Call me.” I called him right away. He read me the inscription, sure enough it was my ring! My ring was back on my finger on Thursday. I am still in shock. My husband Patrick and I have been married 13 years this summer, lucky #13! Stan is the MAN! Thank you for finding my ring!

My Story starts:  April 21, 2014

Monday night as I was checking Craig’s List when I saw Nicole’s post.  She had posted it just a few hours before I read it. Her Post read:  Lost Platinum Wedding Ring .. Newport Beach:   » I was at Newport Beach on Saturday and I lost my platinum wedding band (women’s). It has an inscription inside. I was between 26th St. and 27th St. »  First, I was concerned that others may read this and go on their personal treasure hunt. Second, this area of the beach is pounded by many other detectorists new to the hobby. ( finders keepers ). Third, and most important is this beach is very well maintained. The beach cleaning machines are very efficient and they will get items as small as dimes including rings. I sent  an email to Nicole asking for more details, but did not read her reply till after I found the ring. I could not sleep well, thinking about getting to the search area before the machines or other detectorist might get the ring. I could have gone to the beach at 10pm, but I thought 5am would work out better. That would let me find out the new summer schedule for beach cleaning and after the search I could do some pleasure detecting.. I began to grid search parallel to the beach starting at the towel line from 26th St. to 27th St..It was not looking good. The beach was super clean and I could see the beach cleaning machines in the distance. I was able to cover about 4 feet with each swing of the detector. After about 12 passes which took about two hours and I was more than 50feet from the towl line.  I started to get some coins and other metallic trash. Then up popped Nicole’s ring. I emailed her then talked to her on the phone, she was so excited on the other end of the phone I could not believe it.  Later that day I mailed her ring to her in the San Francisco Bay Area, but I did not rest easy till I received her email that it made it safe her home and the ring was back on her finger..  TheRingFinders works and it works real well « TELL A FRIEND »

I was detecting down at Huntington Beach, California when one of the Lifeguards riding an ATV came up to me and told me about a couple that were looking for their wedding ring, thinking I might be able to help them. I went down to see what had happened, and to ask if I could help. When I got to them, I could see that they had purchased a new metal detector, but one that would not work well in the wet sand. It was at that point that I realized I might be able to help them find their ring, yet I was not able to find it that evening.

At this point I will let them tell their story that they so graciously wrote to put into this blog…

 

What a miracle it was that we met you Steve!

Our 1 year anniversary was less than 2 weeks away.  My husband lost his wedding band while he was surfing in pretty rough conditions.  I immediately assumed that it was lost forever, somewhere in the belly of the sea.  But we still went back to look for it the next day, and that’s when we met Steve.  He graciously offered to help us look for the ring until he had to leave for the day.  In that short time, he wasn’t able to find the ring but we shared our information and told him about the inscriptions in case he was to ever come across it.

The next morning, we were surprised when my husband received a text from Steve telling us that he was going to go back and look for our ring.  That afternoon, my husband thought he’d swing by and do some more looking himself, and when he got there, he saw Steve was still there, waist deep in the water searching for our ring. My husband realized that if Steve wasn’t able to find it, that we probably wouldn’t either, and he left the beach.   A few hours later, Steve sent us a text to tell us that he’d found the ring!

The following night we met up with him and he shared the incredible story about how he’d found the ring.  It brought me to tears!  What a miracle it was that we met Steve!

Steve – we could never thank you enough for what an amazing blessing you were to us and how dedicated you were to finding our ring. Thank you a million times, from the bottom of our hearts – you’ll never know how much this meant to us!

Hi, my name is Steve Smith.

I am retired, which allows me to do a search at all hours of the day or night. I look forward to being a help to all who call. Lost Keys .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found in the sand

It has been a while sense I recieved a call to find a lost item. The weather has been beautiful in So. Calif. I’m sure that people have  a need for our service but  people are still learning about The RingFinders.

This morning I recieved a call from Glen. He had found me through a Google link that showed up when he tried to find a metal detector for rent. His nephews Mark and Mat were visiting from Germany and Glen had lent them his car.  They went to Newport Beach Friday evening to look at the waves while watching the sunset. When they returned to the car the keys were not in Mark’s back pocket.  It was dark making it difficult to find the keys.  These were the only set of keys. The car had to be towed home and they were looking at possibly paying as much as $300 to have a new set made.

I  live only 4 miles away so I was able to meet Uncle Glen  Saturday about 11:30 am at the general location. Mark and Mat would not be able to  get to our location till after 1:00pm. I decided to search the towel line before too many people took over the search area. After the nephews arrived I asked them if they had been doing any activities that would cause them to lose the keys. They had only walked 200 yards  from their parking lot to the top of the dry sand ( which is know as the towel line ).  We all walked to the area they believed they were sitting.  I could see where I had already searched and I had only 15 or 20 feet from this spot.  Within 3 minutes we had the keys. It does help to have good directions. I still enjoyed the hunt.  Everybody was so happy and they will be able to enjoy their vacation.  I was happy that the keys were not dropped in that 200 yard walk from the car to the place they were sitting. It was a pleasure to help these guys and the people on the beach were also very co-operative.
