I received a call from Adam who had lost his ring in the sand at the beach. This ring was custom made for him to receive when he got married. The jade was a special stone picked out by his future mother in law for that occasion, so the ring had a very special significance for him. I let him know that I could be there soon so as to get to the area before anyone else could, and to insure a thorough search of the area.

When I arrived Adam met me , and showed me the area. One of his friends was busy with a kitchen colander sifting through the sand when we got there. Adam said he wore himself out doing the same. The area wasn’t large that they had been searching, but that doesn’t always mean much. The ring could have been flipped into another area altogether. I began my search over where Adam and his friend had been looking, beginning from the edge working my way in. I found a few pieces of trash metal, and then right in the middle of their search area I got that good gold signal, dug, and had this cool looking ring in my scoop. Adam had not described the ring before I began, so I saw a ring I wasn’t expecting, and before he knew I found it, I said it must be a real cool looking ring. He replied it was with a questioning look, and then I held it up for him, which totally surprised him when he realized I found it right in the middle of where they had previously searched. He was very happy, and I was pleased to be able to return such a special ring for him.

I got a call from Roman about a lost ring. He and his wife had been at the beach the night before, and when they were ready to leave his wife Evelin realized her engagement ring was missing. It was dark, and very hard to see as they searched for it. They were unsuccessful in their search, and called me the next day. From what they told me, it seemed as though the county beach cleaning machines had not come through this day, so I felt there was a good chance of a recovery. They told me they would not be able to meet me, but provided a Google Earth shot showing where the loss occurred, and I let them know I was going immediately.

When I got to the area, I lined myself up with the landmarks, and began my search, only to look up as I was being hailed by a young couple waking towards me, « Are you Steve? » I let them know that I was, and Roman and Evelin let me know they were able to work it out for them to come to let me know where to look. It was a good thing, as I was off by about 4o feet. I began my search where Evelin thought she might have lost the ring by shaking sand off their gear. She also showed me another possible area to search, which I would get to as soon as I finished where I was looking already. At that point they left, I believe to go and get some lunch. I did not find her ring in the first area, and began to work my way over to the other area. It was when I reached the spot she was standing when she introduced the second spot I received a nice gold signal, dug, and had a beautiful ring in my scoop. I called to let them know I found the ring, they were so surprised. They had been married for a year and a half, and this ring meant a lot to them. A very blessed experience indeed!

Brittany had been surfing, and had left her car key in her sandals on her towel when she went into the water. When She left, she picked everything up, and then went on what seemed like a bit of a trek to finally get back to her car. When she arrived she realized the key was gone. The stretch of sand from the bike path to the is quite expansive, and as Brittany made the walk back to do the search, it seemed like an experiment in futility. I let her know I would come immediately.

When I got to the beach Brittany found me, and explained what had happened. I surmised that the most likely place to begin was where she had been originally, and then search from there. I started my search going over all of the area that she had gridded with her feet first with no luck. When she said that it might be the whole expanse we might have to search, I asked that she would walk an exact a path as she did when she left. She then took me on a unique trek. I expected a bee line, but she had gone sideways, then doubled back, then off to the bike path. We went slow, while I dug every signal, finding much trash metal, but no key. We got to the bike path, and I asked if she thought we covered the path as close as possible, and she did. She then decided to leave. I told her that I was going to retrace our steps off to each side in order to make sure we did not miss anything, and would call her if I found the key. I went all the way back with nothing, and then began my way back to the bike path. Where she doubled back, about 5 feet from our first walk I got a very strong signal, dug, and had her key. You have to make sure all possibilities are explored, and this time it paid off. I called her and asked her to come and get her key; she was so surprised and happy to get it back. What fun!

I got a call for help from a family in Los Angeles about their child’s sand box. After moving into the house, they removed an above ground swimming pool which had a sand base that they thought would be great for their toddler child to play in. The problem occurred when the father was going through the sand and found a  pointy screw, and became worried about his child playing there, so he asked me to come and search the sand to see if there might be any more screws, or…

He showed me the sand box, and I began an immediate search. It took me about 45 minutes to thoroughly search the area, making sure I dug every signal, and I found quite a few screws, nails, and chunks of metal that the parents were happy to have removed from the area for the safety of their child. Another great, and safe day!

Eric called me about doing a search for his prescription sunglasses. He had taken them off and put them in his breast pocket while he was trimming the bushes in his yard. He looked extensively but was unable to find them. I let him know I was on my way.

When I got to Eric’s house he met me, and took me to the area he believed the glasses to have come out of his pocket. I began a search using both my detector, and also my pin pointer to probe into the dense bushes. I was looking in some very obvious possibilities, but it wasn’t until I probed a very low bush that received a signal. I moved the bush around looking inside, but was unable to see the glasses. I got the signal again, pulled the branches apart, and there about 8″ off of the ground were Eric’s glasses. They were very hard to see in the dark colored leaves. Eric was pleased to have his glasses back, and I was happy to have helped.

Maggie had lost two rings a few years earlier. She believed she had lost them in her yard, but was unsure, they could have possibly been lost in the house as well. They were going to be moving soon, and she wanted to know if the rings could possibly be in the yard before they left. We arranged a time to do the search, and I would meet her to find out where she might have lost them.

I got to her house, and she showed me the area, which ended up both front and back yards. I did an extensive search of both yards, but was unable to find the rings. While searching the backyard though, I did find a crystal pendant with an amethyst stone that Maggie had lost over a decade ago. The pedant had some serious sentimental value to her, as it held some memories of a trip she took many years prior. She was surprised that this pendant was finally found, and very happy to have it back. The search also provided closure on the rings, and yielded up a surprise she didn’t expect. Still a happy day!

Anna called me about 8:30 PM about a ring she lost earlier in the day. She was playing volley ball with friends and while she was hitting the ball, felt the ring come off. She and her friends, as well some bystanders fervently searched for her ring with no success. This was a ring her mother had given her, so it had a great amount of sentimentality. I let her know that I would go the same night if she could meet me there to show me where to search. She agreed, and I got my equipment together to go.

When we met in the parking area, (which was far from the beach), we walked over the highway to the beach. We were walking to the bike path when we passed another person with a metal detector who had just finished his day, which worried me about our possibility of a recovery. We walked out to the area, and Anna told me she had marked the area with some rocks and a stick (which was great). We searched for her marker, and finally found it. I began my search gridding carefully, and finding a few pieces of trash metal. I then began my search in the other direction, and after a few passes at about 11:00 PM, I had a nice chunky gold ring in my scoop. I handed it back to Anna who was so grateful to have it back, and I was glad to have been the implement of service for her.

Anna sent the following testimonial:

Ok I seriously don’t even know where to start! I lost my mother’s gold ring at the beach, at night, and lost all hope that I would be able to find it. I was so heartbroken, and was desperately looking online to rent my own metal detector. I didn’t think I was going to find anything, but you know, I was super desperate.

SOMEHOW, I happened upon Steve’s site, and man was he a lifesaver! He showed up to Santa Monica beach at 11pm and found my ring within 5 minutes! When he said 24/7 service, he really meant it!

I am so happy I found this service and Steve, and will continue to recommend this to literally anyone that loses a valuable item at the beach.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for preserving my mother’s legacy Steve. I am forever grateful!

Farhanah

Metal Detecting Service .. Call: Stan the Metal Detector Man ..  949-500-2136 .. member of TheRingFinders

*** Pete called me asking about my service. He said he is with friends on the beach at a local Laguna Beach hotel. His friend, Michelle had just realized that hierloom gold and diamond ring was not on her finger. I explained a couple things about how the metal detector works and that I could be at his location soon as it was only 8 miles from my base.

Pete told me to wait for him to call back as the hotel security personnel were on their way to help search for the ring. I know that beach is loaded with black sand and very difficult to search with the average metal detector. I couldn’t wait for Pete to call because I knew he would soon be calling.

I jumped into my car head south towards the Surf and Sands Hotel in Laguna Beach, CA. Just as I was parking I got the call from Pete. I said, I would be there in two minutes. As I walked up to the group I met Pete who was holding one of those handheld detector wands that security people check people for weapons at event entrances. ( not good for rings in black sand )

Machelle didn’t know when the ring came off her finger, but was positive that she had not left the 30’x30’ area. That was all I needed to hear. I set up my detector, backing off a few feet to get a couple practice swings in before getting focused on the search. After a couple passes in a grid line the sweet sound of gold was heard in my earphones. One dig with the sand scoop revealed the beautiful ring.

The whole group of more than a dozen people witnessed the recovery. Michelle gave me a big hug telling me how much this ring meant to her. It was a gift from her grandmother who had worn it for many years.

It was a pleasure to help Machelle and it was Pete that had the presence of mind to search on line for TheRingFinders directory.
