Aidan contacted me about looking for a special necklace he had lost earlier that day. It was now about 8:00 PM, and I know the county cleans the beach regularly, so I asked him if he would be able to meet me there to show me where he had been when the loss occurred. He said he would check with his mom for a ride as he was coming from Pasadena which is about 30 miles from the beach. He called back to let me know that his mom was more than willing to give the ride, so I agreed to meet them as soon as they could get there.

It was about 9:45 PM when we all got there. Aidan was there with his mom and brother, and he walked me out to the area he had been. He showed me where he had set his things, so I began my grid. Pass after pass, and nothing. Not even very much trash metal. He then said that his friend had moved their stuff to the other side of the Lifeguard tower, so it might have fallen along the way. He then went over to the other side, and asked if I would come over there as well. I did while working in the area they had possibly walked, nothing. He showed me the new area, and I began a new grid. As I searched Aidan walked out over to the bathrooms where the showers were, but I plugged on. Pass after pass, then a really good signal, I scooped, and there in the bottom was a chain with some items attached, it was about 11:00 PM. I looked, and Aidan was pretty far from me, but his mother was on the other side of the tower, so I walked over to her, and said that I think we have looked long enough, and that they should get on their way home. She looked at me with resignation until held my hand out with Aidan’s necklace in it. When she saw it she just ran off yelling for him saying he found it, he found it! I found out that two of those pendants were given him by his mom, one at birth, and the other on another special occasion. The little soccer shoe was given him by a friend who had got it in Italy just a couple of weeks before. What great way to end a day!

Got a call the other night from Lucas about a lost ring. It had happened that day, and he was still at the beach, so I arranged to meet him for a search as soon as I could get there.

When I got to the beach Lucas was waiting for me, and walked me out to the search area. As we walked he informed me that the ring was not his, but a friend’s. As we got close to the area of the loss Lucas introduced me to Josh the gentleman who lost the ring. Josh is a pastor of a local church, and had « Church on the Beach » that day. When the service was finished Josh grabbed his backpack to which he had attached his wedding ring, and somehow his ring fell off the clip it was hooked to. He and his parishioners searched diligently for the ring without success. I turned my detector on and began my grid. One pass, then another, one more and the sound I was waiting for, right in the area they had been searching. I dug, looked in my scoop, and to everyone’s surprise, pulled out Josh’s Ring. Everyone was very excited at the return, as was I. It is always exciting when I have successful recovery.

LOST DIAMOND GOLD ENGAGEMENT RING AT SANTA MONICA BEACH FOUND & RETURNED

  • from Santa Monica (California, United States)

About 1:30 on Saturday afternoon, I got a call from Kelsie, she told me that her sister-in-law Kristen just lost her ring at the beach in Santa Monica. I agreed to come to help right away, I packed my snacks and drove seventy minutes through downtown LA to the beach. I arrived there just before 3 pm, and met them on the beach. Kristen told me she gave her ring to her husband for safe-keeping before she went into the water, on the way out her husband met her half way from the beach chairs with a towel to dry off. Who said chivalry is dead? They soon realized the ring was gone. I started my search where he headed off with the towel, then three swings with the detector and got a loud solid signal. There it was, glittering in the sun in my scoop. Kristen was so happy to get her ring back. There was a crowd of onlookers surrounding the couple who all cheered when I found the ring.

I was doing some shopping in Costco when I received a call from Igor. It seems he had lost a ring, and was hoping I was available to help him. I let him know what I was doing, but told him that as soon as I was finished, and got the food home I would come to help. That sounded good to him, so I would let him know when I was coming.

When I got to his office area Igor showed me where he believed the loss occurred, and showed me what he did to make the ring come off of his finger. He also said that he had purchased a detector to find the ring, but to no avail. The loss happened about 3 weeks prior, but was in such an area that it was sure to still be there. The area was covered with a good cover of ivy and dead leaves. There were some metal objects, and wires that had to worked around, but there was not too many other metal signals coming from the search. I covered all of the area that Igor had shown me with no luck. With experience I have learned that rings do not do what they appear to do, but sometimes the opposite, so it was time to work out of the box. I began to search behind where he thought the ring went, and got a good signal, reached down with the trusty pin pointer finding Igor’s ring. He was very happy as this was given to him from his wife just a couple months ago. It was sure nice to make his day.

Igor sent the following testimonial:

Jewelry is about many things, not just about a monetary value of it. Most often, it signifies important moments in our lives, and treasured memories, that mean to us more than just a price tag.
I am so thankful to Steve for the selfless service that he provides to make people happy! He found my ring, that meant a lot to me, and interestingly enough, now memory of his help is a part of this ring story as well…
Thank you so much for rescuing my little treasure, and all the best to you!
Igor A. Len

Molly called me to report that she had lost 2 rings in the sand at the beach, and wanted to know if I was available to help her find them. I let her know that I was immediately available and would leave as soon as I could get my equipment together.

When I got there I thought I recognized her, and she let me know that I had found the engagement ring for her last year at another beach. I then remembered the search, and the ring. She and her husband Jay walked me over to the area where they believed the loss occurred, and I set up for a search. Just 3 swings of the coil and I scooped up the yellow gold ring. Now for the engagement ring. It was a fine band with a solitaire diamond. I went over the area but did not hear the ring. I went out of the box in searching, but still no ring. I knew the ring had to be there, so it was time to cross grid the area. I made pass after pass, and then a soft whisper of a signal entered my head phones. I scooped, and there it was, Molly’s diamond solitaire engagement ring. This type of ring sometimes does what is called parachuting, and this makes the ring harder to find. I believe this is what happened, and is why a cross grid search is so important if the item is not found the first time through. Because this was the second time she lost her ring Molly was a bit embarrassed to have her full picture taken, but did allow me to show her holding her rings. It feels good to be able to save the day for people.

Annette called me in the morning asking if I could help in finding a lost wedding ring. I was available and the fact that it was at the beach she identified I was concerned about a recovery because the loss happened the day before. I explained the possibilities to her of it being gone because of the County beach sifters and other detectorists, but let her know that we should go in the morning before the beach packs out. She agreed, and we decided to meet there as soon as possible.

I met Annette, and her husband Chris at the beach. Well wouldn’t you know, we got down there and the spot they said they believed the loss occurred was occupied by a big group of families with small children. We asked if they would mind if we worked around them, and they said it would be fine. It was rather difficult because of all the metal chairs, sport bottles, and metal toys scattered all around the area, but I gave it a good old effort with no luck. Chris and Annette had to leave, so I told them I would finish the area where the people were as much as was possible without asking them to move all of their stuff, as well as some of the other possible areas they pointed out. I let them know that if it wasn’t where I was able to look, I would come back later in the evening when everyone had left the beach. I did not find it, so I came back at 8:30 PM, and within 10 minutes had Chris’ ring in my scoop. We decided to meet at a park to make the return which I was able to do to 2 very happy people. Another great day!

I received an afternoon text from Brock as he was out on the beach on the 4th of July. He was out enjoying the day when he noticed his wedding ring was gone. He said he and his friends searched for it, but were unable to find it. He had not left the area, and I told him that if he stayed, and secured the area, I would come and do a search for him; he agreed.

I knew that parking was going to be a problem on this day, one of the busiest beach days of the year, so I brought along my trusty Brompton folding bicycle in case I had to park far away. Well lucky for me that I brought the bike because I had to park about 2 miles away, but no problem. I put the equipment I needed into a bag, and slung it over my shoulder as I rode to the search area. When I got to the site and met with Brock, I folded the bike, putting it into a bag that I could shoulder and we walked out over the sand to do the search. When we got there he showed me where he thought the ring went. I got my equipment ready, and proceeded to search. Two passes later, and his ring was in my scoop. He was so happy explaining that he had only been married one month wherein I assured him that the finding of the ring will insure him of at least another month of marriage🙂 We talked a bit after, then I got on my bike and rode back to my vehicle. What a great day!

Brock sent the following testimonial:

Hi Steve,
Thanks again for the major save yesterday!
Here’s a short review about my experience:
“It was the Fourth of July, and as I sat back in beach chair I came to the realization that my 1 month old wedding ring was gone. I spent the next hour searching the sand in the immediate area to no avail. A google search for metal detecting services led me to Steve, who would turn out to be my savior.
A quick text and Steve was on his way to keep me out of the doghouse. Steve was polite, prompt, and found my ring in less than five minutes (realistically probably less than two minutes). I was ecstatic. I could not have asked for a better solution. Steve and I ruminated on lost jewelry and surfing, and then went our separate ways. I would highly recommend him to anyone that finds themselves in dire straits, on your hands and knees, desperately searching for your lost jewelry.”
Best,
Brock

I got a call from Nick the morning of the 4th of July asking for help in finding his wedding ring that he had lost the day before at the beach. Well I let him know about the County’s meticulous cleaning procedures, but told him I would meet him later in the evening to do the search because I knew the beach would be filling up in the morning and during the day, and someone might park on top of the area which could hinder a thorough search. I figured if we got there after everyone left we would have the whole area to ourselves, and I could grid to my heart’s desire.

I met Nick at the arranged spot at 10:00 PM, and he took me out to the area he had been in the day before. Right away my expectations were buoyed as looked around and realized the machines had not gone through that morning. I asked Nick to show me the boundaries of  the area they had been in, and began my search. This beach is extremely clean of metal trash, and I got very few signals. It is like a desert of metal. I got a key, a penny, and a piece of foil, but I maintained my grid, pass after pass; silence. Then after about 30 minutes a good solid sound in the head phones. I dug, and a nice silver colored platinum ring was in my scoop. I had my back to Nick at the time so I looked inside and saw there was an inscription with 2 initials with a heart between them, one of the initials being an « N », I knew this was the ring. I turned and walked over to him with the ring in my hand. I then asked inquisitively if there were any engravings in his ring. He said there were, and told me what they were. As he was explaining to me I held out his ring in the light of my headlight, and when he saw it he was in total disbelief. He told me he had only been married for 2 months; whew! What a great ending to a great day! My bad on his picture.

Nick sent the following testimonial:

To whom It may concern, I write my client testimonial for Steve Smith of Ring Finders, who found my lost wedding ring on July 4th 2022….

I was out celebrating the Independence day weekend with my new wife of two months and friends on the beach. A beautiful day was had enjoying the wonderful weather. Only once sat at home and about to start a film did I realise my wedding band had come off my fingers. A small breakdown and copious amounts of anxiety ensued and the following morning, frantic messages to social media were posted. A kindly neighbour posted about Steve the ring finder and I called him up. Despite it being July the 4th he kindly agreed to meet that evening due to time being of the essence.
We met at 10 pm once all the fireworks had died down, and Steve got to work. He was meticulous and methodical and to my utter amazement, he found my band. Need to mention again this was all in the PITCH DARK. I was amazed, and I honestly can speak highly enough of both Steve and his work. He’s a true gentleman and very skilled. I sit here typing this testimonial with not only my ring on my finger, but a smile on my face. Steve, you legend.
– There you go!
Thanks again and I hope you have a great week
Nick

Melissa contacted me the other day about searching for her lost rings. She told me they were lost the previous day, and also the beach where they were lost at. When she mentioned the beach, and the location they had been sitting my heart sunk because this is one of the cleanest beaches in Southern California. The County uses very effective sifting machines on this beach, and is able to get almost all metal off the beach daily. She was not able to meet me there, but sent a photo of where she had been which helped a lot to show me where to search, so I left to try.

When I got there I could see that the machines had gone through that morning, and it didn’t look promising. I set up my grid area, and began. As expected, I was getting no signals, but I persisted in my search. There was a small patch about 2 feet wide between where the machine cleaned, and the wet sand that was untouched, so I made sure to be a bit more careful there. Then on one pass I got my first signal in the untouched area. I dug, and had Melissa’s wedding band; I was excited. I couple more swings, and I had the engagement ring. I couldn’t believe it, they were still there, the machine had missed them by 12 inches. Now to get them back to her. I sent her a text with a picture of the rings which made her very happy. She told me where she lived which happened to be on my way home, so I asked if I could drop them off, to which she excitedly said yes. I met her husband Patrick, her husband of just 2 months. This really made my day!

Melissa sent the following testimonial:

Hello!
He found my Wedding Ring AND band on the Beach! Steve was absolutely amazing!! My husband came across his page on « The Knot » and I am so happy I did! I went to the beach late at night and in the morning my ring off my hand was gone. I was devastated especially because we just got married a month ago.. I texted Steve and he got back to me within minutes. I described where I was on the beach and within 30 minutes he took a selfie on the beach of where I was and he got to work. He kept me updated and I am so happy he did. Then he found my rings! It was an absolute miracle and I am forever debted to this man. The amazing part is he even came to my home and dropped it off in Torrance which he did not need to do. He is an Angel and I am so happy I got to thank him in person. I hope this does not happen to you but if it does, Steve is the man to call!
Thank you again! You are the best!!

This return will have a much different story than most. I was contacted by Eric who had been at the beach the day before, and lost his wedding ring. We decided to do a search for it when he was able to get off work and meet me at the beach.

When I got there Eric was waiting out behind the area he had been at the day before. I walked up to him, and we briefly discussed the loss, and the area we were going to go to. As we were going out across the sand, there was another metal detectorist coming from that direction leaving the beach. I could not let him go by with out letting him know why we were there, and to ask if maybe he had found Eric’s ring. So the question, did you find a gold ring in a particular area? Like an experienced person in the craft, his answer was not necessarily an answer. We made small talk, and Eric described the exact area, and then the unique pattern on the ring. He also mentioned that it had been his grandfather’s ring. The other detectorist asked Eric to describe it a little better, and with Eric’s description he included that not only was the pattern unique, but that it also had an inscription inside. At that point seeing that Eric was able to fully identify the ring, the other gentleman pulled it out of his pocket, and said that he did find it and gave it to Eric. He also said that the fact that it had been Eric’s grandfather’s ring really touched his heart. Most of the men and ladies out there with metal detectors are good people with good hearts, but have a right to be suspicious when someone comes to them asking if they found a ring or something of value. This gentleman did the right thing to insure that Eric was able to intimately describe the ring before producing it. He did a great thing that day, and it would not have happened, and Eric would not have gotten his ring back if I had not been willing to ask. Sometimes you just have to ask. It ended up being a great day.
