Lost Platinum Wedding Ring TIKI Island Galveston, Texas (recovered)

Massive Platinum Wedding Ring lost off the dock on TIKI Island-Galveston, Texas recovered by Houston Metal Detecting Services (Members of The Ring Finders)

I was contacted by Mike a resident of TIKI Island -Galveston, Texas who was looking for help in recovering his platinum wedding ring lost off the dock behind his home.  Mike reported following an unexpected water-related kayak incident, his ring slipped off his finger and landed in the water near the edge of the dock. Mike reported the water was about 4′ deep and the bottom had a somewhat muddy bottom.  Mike stated he attempted to recover the ring with a homemade sift but was unsuccessful at recovering his ring. Mike said later that day a short internet search led him to The Ring Finders website, and he placed the call!

Mike said his wife had the ring made for him and he was extremely motivated about trying to recover this one-of-a-kind platinum wedding ring.  Mike and I made arrangements to meet the following day to attempt a recovery of his lost ring.

Some days all things come together, this day was no exception, Mike’s ring was laying on the edge of the only hard pack material next to the dock, another foot out, and it would have possibly been unrecoverable due to the bottomless silt just off that ledge.

Lost Ring at 8 Mile Beach Galveston, Texas

Lost Ring at 8 Mile Beach while playing with dog Galveston, Texas

I received the following e-mail Sunday from Charlotte.

Sunday 2/29/2016, I lost my ring on 8 Mile Beach. Silver and gold wide band. Offering

We were parked about 3/4 the way down from the access point. Did not venture very far and stayed near the car the whole time. I only went ankle deep in the water. The ring belonged to my boyfriend’s mother who passed away 5 years ago, almost to the day. Please help me find this ring, it is very unique and is a very thick and heavy weight.

Thank you, Charlotte

I met with Charlotte this morning at 8 mile beach in Galveston to search for her lost ring. Upon my arrival at the beach, I immediately became concerned about the condition of the beach, The search area was hard packed (no soft sand). Two days had passed and the beach see’s a considerable amount of foot traffic. The ring was a thick gold and sliver band with emeralds and if lost on the surface, it could have been easily spotted.

Charlotte explained how and where she had been playing with her dog on the beach, We established out primary search area and marked out the area to be searched.

After four hours of searching, and re-working and expanding the search area, the day was closed with negative results.

Lost Engagement Ring Colorado River Wharton, Texas (Recovered)

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)

Lost Engagement Ring Colorado River Wharton, Texas (Recovered)

I received a call from Sarah Saturday evening who was clearly upset about having just lost her engagement Ring in the Colorado River in Wharton, Texas. Sarah said she and her Fiancé Walsh and several friends were playing in the Colorado River this afternoon when her ring fell off and landed in the river. Sarah said she new the moment it happened and sat down immediately to mark the spot. Another friend found a stick on the shoreline and marked the location in the river as a reference point. (now that was some good teamwork and quick thinking)

Sarah sent the following photographs of the location on the Colorado River, you can just make out the branch in the water where their marker stake was driven into the ground. Sarah wanted an immediate response, but it was already late and working in the dark on the river was not an option.

I met Walsh and Sarah at their River house 07/27/2014 Sunday morning , and was very graciously greeted by both in the driveway of their residence. I found out later the Diamond in Sarah’s engagement had belonged to Walsh’s great grandmother and simply could not be replaced.

Walsh and I made the descended down to the river. The river crossing wasn’t really bad, mostly only a few feet deep and a nice sandy bottom.

The beach on the far side was my target for getting set up and establishing my search pattern and grid. Sarah provided oversight from the high bank and would often provide additional search details from her location.

About and hour into the search I got a nice low tone on the CTX3030. I had pulled numerous false signals at this point and I knew this was going to be something different.  The river had a nice sandy bottom, and the current would flush the bucket with little or no effort. I pulled the bucket out of the water looked in it and saw Walsh’s great grandmothers diamond.

A Bear Hug from Walsh immediately followed. 🙂 and then Sarah disappeared from sight on the high bank, turns out she was rolling on the ground overwhelmed with happiness.

Lost Wedding Ring Lake Livingston, Texas (Recovered)

A Wedding Ring Lost 4 years ago in Lake Livingston, Texas (Recovered)

07/22/2014

I received a call from Jane regarding her husbands lost wedding ring in Lake Livingston. Jane said her husband had lost his ring off the dock at her parents house on Lake Livingston a little over 4 years ago, She said his birthday was coming up and she was hoping we could find the ring and she could surprise him on his birthday. I asked Jane some additional details about the search and received the following photographs of the search area. Arrangements were made to meet on 07/26/2014 Saturday morning to search for the lost ring. I arrived early Saturday morning and Jane walked with me to the dock and pointed out the area needing to be searched. Jane explained how the ring had been lost and pointed out where in the water she believed the ring may have landed when it came off her husbands hand.

The search area water depth was between 4 and 5 feet deep in most areas.

The bottom was a thick gumbo mud and sifting the scoop after finding a target was an impossible task. Jane’s brother John assisted in laying out a tarp on the dock were every scoop containing a target was dumped. John used one of my pin-pointers and sifted through the mud hoping to uncover the ring.

A little over an hour into the search, I pulled up another target and sitting right on top of the mud in the scoop was the missing ring.

Metal Detecting Equipment

Metal Detecting Punta Cana Dominican Republic

One of our sponsor at « The Ring Finders » is Anderson Detector Shafts (www.andersondetectorshafts.com) a provider of great metal detecting equipment.

A few months back they sent me a « Test and Evaluation Unit » a travel shaft for the Minelab Excalibur II. I have just recently had the opportunity to use the shaft for one of its intended purposes (traveling). I made a trip over to the Dominican Republic this month for a little R and R and decided to pack up the Excalibur and the new Anderson travel shaft.

As you can see from the photo the Excalibur and the travel shaft packed up nicely into the bottom of a medium sized suit case, I used one of the more modern style suit cases with the hard exterior shell to ensure some protection for the equipment.

The Excalibur and travel shaft made the trip there and back buried in the suit case with no problems. I spent a few hours playing around on the beach in Punta Cana which was surprising clean with very few targets.  I had a small following of locals who seemed truly fascinated by my ability to pull money out of the earth LOL. I would often with out really looking at what I found throw it to the onlookers. It must have always been something good, because big smiles often followed after they examined their treasure.

Send me an email if you can put this detector shaft to work, and I will do a lottery drawing of those who respond and ship you a slightly used

My initial thoughts after unboxing the detector shaft was WOW. Extraordinary quality, light weight, three configurations, durability for long term use in Salt water. I immediately new this would be the only detector shaft I would ever need for the Excalibur.

The shaft can be configured into any of the following set ups: Scuba Shaft, Over and Under, or the Long Shaft.

Lost Wedding Ring Sugar Land, Texas (Recovered)

Lost Platinum Wedding Ring Sugar Land, Texas (Recovered)

I received the following e-mail today after speaking with Dr. Shah last night regarding his lost wedding ring. Dr. Shah said he had lost his wedding ring the other day while playing soccer with several friends at a local park. Dr. Shan said he was playing goalie when he deflected a kick with his left hand and moments later discovered his wedding ring was missing. Dr. Shan said he and several of his friends spent time looking for his ring but were not able to locate it in the grass. We discussed trying to meet at the park today, but scheduling issue was not going to allow that to happen.

The plan was to use Google maps to pin point the location of the search area. I was familiar with the park having hunted it in the past to dial in new metal detectors and for general detector training. I was comfortable with the map plan, but I always like having the client on-site for a complete walk through.

Today’s e-mail

Go west on New Territory past 99.  Soccer fields come on the left.  We were playing on the very last soccer field before the woods (in this shot, it looks like a blank field).

Once you get to the field, I am almost positive I lost my ring in this fashion.   I was playing goalie and standing in the middle of where the red circle is.   My friend was standing at the X and shot a hard left footed shot.  The ball curved to my left.

I got my hands on it, but the speed of the shot bent my fingers back.  The ball deflected off the post to my left.   I shook my hands to get rid of the sting while going to my left to get the ball.  This is when I noticed I didn’t have the ring on.

Depending on the trajectory of how I lost the ring, it could be anywhere within or slightly outside the red circled area

I made it out to the park early this morning and used the provided Google Map to establish my

search area. I started with a Grid search in front of the goal and within just a few minutes hit a solid signal.

Dr. Shah was very acurate with his information which resulted in a fast and successful recovery.

Lost Wedding Ring Crystal Beach, Texas (Recovered)

Lost Diamond Wedding Ring Crystal Beach, Texas (Recovered)

(Bolivar Peninsula-Galveston County)

07/05/2014

Received a call today from Jessie regarding his wives lost wedding ring at Crystal Beach on the Bolivar Peninsula in Galveston County, Texas.

Jessie advised his family was vacationing on Crystal Beach, and his wife Courtney had lost her ring in the water on Crystal Beach.  Jessie said she was in about 4 foot of water when she lost the ring and they where pretty sure of its general location.

07/06/2014

Plans were made to meet early in the morning today to escape the remaining 4th of July traffic in and around Galveston. The trip down early was the right plan but the trip back not so much, seemed like everyone was leaving the island at exactly the same time, cost me several hours.

Sargassum Seaweed has been plaguing the Texas coast for most of the month making metal detecting a little less desirable, and extremely difficult at times.

I meet Jessie and his family this morning and we did a walk through of how and where the ring was lost. The seaweed and tide conditions had all changed since the previous day making the location a little more difficult for Courtney.

After about 30 minutes of searching with no success Jessie and Courtney came back out into the water and placed themselves as accurately as possible in the drop location. I worked a circle grid around them and on about the second loop hit a faint signal.

I personally think both Jessie and Courtney were starting to loose a little faith in the idea their ring would ever be found. Perhaps being back out in the water and seeing what was involved changed their expectations.

I pulled up that faint target, washed the sand from the basket, and saw what most people would think could never be found.

Memorial Day

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the men and women who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. The holiday, which is celebrated every year on the last Monday of May, was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service
