Early Friday evening, Amanda Nachtwey and her husband were visiting friends at the Ford Festival Camp Grounds in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, home of Country USA’s annual music festival. As they were walking along Amanda felt her loose-fitting wedding ring slip off her finger. It vanished somewhere into the sodden grass, mud and puddles along the roadway, the result of earlier heavy rains. Despite searching feverishly for nearly three hours, the ring seemed lost forever.

Having searched for and successfully recovered a ring for another client two years ago at the same Festival Campground, when Amanda notified Security of her loss, she was given my contact number at The Ring Finders. It was about 9:00 at night when I received a call from Amanda. Would I come right away? I made the 80-mile trip and was met by a security guard at the camp entrance who marshaled my clearance and transport to the site.

For all you metal-detecting buffs out there, I chose to use a state-of-the-art XP Deus wireless detector and probe. It has become my machine of choice for high-trash areas. And the wireless probe was invaluable.

I extracted several pieces of aluminum, some bits of foil and a pull-tab from the muck and water. Amanda hovered close by with a flashlight in hand and so I handed each of these metallic bits to her to keep as “souvenirs.” At last, I felt the ring in my fingers and sloshed it about in the puddle to remove the mud. Then I placed her husband’s love token in her hand saying, “And here is another souvenir for you! » Tears and hugs followed!

« It all started on a sunny day, playing with my puppies in my backyard right before I was about to go to work. The dogs got excited and got out of our fence, I then panicked  and go to get them that way they don’t get to far away from me, it wasn’t until I was coming back to the house I realized I lost my wedding ring! I had a pretty good idea it had to have been somewhere in my back yard, the weeds were high, the fence was broken, and I was about to go to work. A recipe for disaster. I prayed over it after spending hours on end looking for it myself.  It wasn’t until the next day, I was worried because I did everything in my power to look for it, I go onto google and just typed it ring finders just trying to see what would happen or what hints they would give me. It then brought me to a page where I found Steve! I guess more people lose there wedding rings than I thought. Steve  came out the very next day, he looked for hours, and didn’t give up until he found it, and returned it to its proper place. He is an angel. And I’m so grateful to have found him!  »

Kaitlyn was not home when the ring was recovered but her active duty Marine husband Baylen was there to pick the ring up off of the ground after my discovery!

This story is told better from the young lady who called me, this is how it went:

« So on Sunday we went swimming at the lake and I lost my wedding ring. I have been devastated about it. The ring is irreplaceable. Tyler G. took weeks on finding me the perfect ring and told me I could pick something different but I wanted the one he put so much thought into. My uncle Bob, who runs Kings Landing kampgrounds, told me he would rake the lake but still that’s not a guarantee. So I called this awesome guy Gregg Edward Larabel, I found online, read his bio and decided I needed him to find my ring. The search was cut short because it started to thunder. But he and 2 of his amazing friends who came out the next day and didn’t stop until they found it. I’m beyond excited to have my ring back. Thanks so much guys ».

So on Monday after I got Lacie J’s call I jumped in the car for the 2 hour ride hoping that the weather would hold out but after a couple hours hunting for the ring I had to give up. The next day after an hour and going chest deep in to the water I recovered her ring, gave her a call, went to the nursing home where she worked and the rest is Ringfinder history. Thank you Dave Boyer my fellow Ringfinder for driving.

This story started prior to  November of 2017 when Rowan’s  lost his silver and rose gold wedding ring. The weather was warmer, he was enjoying a swim and playing with his dog in Lake Sammamish. In neck high waters he threw a ball for his dog and watched his wedding ring launch into the air dropping within a few feet of him to the bottom of the lake. He spent several hours diving down but could not locate the ring hiding in the sand and millfoil growth.

Rowan learned of the TheRingFinders from a podcast sometime after his initial loss and decide to find a local recovery specialist to assist him. After he made contact with me he  agreed to meet me at the waters edge to point out the precice area hew was in when he lost this ring. At this time due to our schedule we agreed this wold just be a site visit only and that  I would return soon after to start the search.

In December I performed the fist SCUBA search for his ring  however did not recover it at that time. The weather was poor yet I knew I would be back in better conditions at another time. Being a lake the ring was not going anywhere as with marine waters so my confidence was still very strong.

The walk from the parking area to the water is quite a hike and I was not fully prepared the fist time for optimal transport of my heavy SCBUBA gear. I was in the works of a better transport system and the months slipped by. Fast forward to June 2018, with a better option, a picnic wagon, and warmer tempetatures I sprung into action. I took my Excalibur II dive detector leaving no change of missing the ring this time around! On this second visit I was able to recover Rowan’s ring in the precise location stuffed in the sand in the thicket of a  milfoil patch as he told me about.

After contacting Rowan to meetup for the return of his ring I learned he has since moved out of state. So his ring has been proper packed and shipped to him so the two can be reunited once again. Rowan shared his gratitude and was very pleased to learn of the good news.

Thanks again for your patients on this one Rowan. Sometimes these hunts only take a few minutes and other times require a few visits. I am happy in the end we were able to realized a recovery for you!
