He Was There for the BOOS…

and the trick or treats but when Halloween was all said and done, Mark’s ring was missing. Pulling a graveyard shift into dead of the night he didn’t want to turn into a pumpkin, so he stopped searching. Did the ring come off while passing out candy? Did it fall into someone’s candy bag? Or did it fall off earlier that day doing yard chores? He was spellbound by the eerie disappearance and got a toy type metal detector hoping that would work but perhaps brought about bats in the belfry trying to use it after no luck with it. Playing the devil’s advocate, I said there’s more than a ghost of a chance I’ll find the ring if it’s there in your yard. I started a grid search after finding out the area Mark was during the day. A few sweeps of the metal detector coil off in a grass area revealed his ring! I held it up and said here’s your boo-tiful ring! He said thank you and that he was scared stiff that the ring would not be found. I ghoulishly smiled and said I had a scary good time!

Courtney’s Nightmares…..

About her lost engagement ring have been haunting her for a while. Ever since last September at her sister’s Labor Day gathering reoccurring thoughts day and night overwhelm her as to its whereabouts. When will these dark thoughts stop troubling her? How long will its location be cloaked in mystery? Or will the spiritual power of the rose gold and agate stone help return it and reunite her with the new beginnings in her life? The night was dark as a velvet carpet and as she travelled to her sister’s place for Halloween, she began to have premonitions of finding her ring. Arriving to find a bonfire and trick or treaters lifted her spirits. Around the witching hour, as she sat next to the dwindling bonfire she drifted off into sleep. In a dream a man appeared with a machine that howled as he passed it along the ground. He reached down and exhumed an object and walked towards her. Placing it in her hand she was startled awake by her sister shouting BOO! trick or treat… while nudging her asking if she was ok. Courtney said yes and excitedly exclaimed that she found her ring. Where? How? the sister asked. It was here, next to the fire, I fell asleep and a man with a metal detector handed it to me! I didn’t see anyone out here the sister said and added, ok enough of the spine-tingling stories can’t you just creep things real??  Courtney said, believe whitcha want but the ring can finally rest in peace on my finger where it belongs, how’s that for a scarytale ending!

Lost Gold Pendant w/Sapphire & Diamonds Found in Huntington Woods Michigan

Third Time’s A Charm……

….Kate had just finished a 1-mile bike ride with the children and when she got home her pendant and chain were missing. Their destination was a community center building where they parked the bicycles and hung out in a small park area under some trees.

1st search with the family covered the route from home to community center building but yielded nothing.

2nd search included 2 teams of people working towards each other from the house to community center and yielded some results when the chain the pendant was on was found by a planter near where they stopped under the trees at the community center building. A week later Kate called me with what had transpired but had to go out of town on business and turned the case over to her husband Dan.

3rd search included me, Dan and the children. I thought it best to start metal detecting in the area under the trees at the community center building. Luckily no one had raked up the fallen leaves yet. Grid searching a tight pattern revealed no signals on the metal detector and searching the planters revealed nothing….so I thought…. where could this pendant be? I took a break and went to the restroom, when I came back out as I was opening the door I noticed what looked like a paper clip sticking up from the deep grooved, thick rubber floor mat. Taking a closer look, I reached down thru the deep grooves in the mat and there was Kate’s pendant! Dan had been just a few feet away when I held it up for him to see. He came running over and was as baffled as I was as to how the pendant got there. He called Kate who was totally thrilled and couldn’t believe it was found but said she didn’t go inside the building because it was closed when they were there. We both did another double take at the small 1/4″ long pendant and pondered in silence to take in all the events that transpired. The most important thing was that the pendant was found and being the third time trying was definitely a charm for Dan and Kate.

Blades of Glory…

As Larry was mowing the grass for the last time this year he was emptying the bag into some compost piles. Hours later he noticed his ring missing. Back at work the next day his wife Cindy texted me the information on the disappearance. Setting up my MXT metal detector I told her this detector will bring lawn and order back to the yard. Scanning the detector coil thru the compost piles I got a nice solid signal. Reaching thru the pile with my pin-pointer I got a location and pulled out Larry’s ring! Handing it to Cindy I held my detector coil up to the brim of my hat to say goodbye and she said thanks for the cutting-edge service…. I said, my pleasure, it’s been a lawn time coming.

Lost Tungsten Ring Found Inside Car in Detroit Michigan

Treasure Trunk…..

Those words always make me think of a pirate treasure chest loaded with booty. Unfortunately, this hunt was different. It began when James was hauling items from one yard sale to another, a de-cluttering of sorts with some friends. When nighttime came and they were all sitting around a bonfire, James noticed his ring missing. The next day I started a grid search on the grounds where he was loading items into bags and boxes and followed the path he took to the car. No metal signals came thru on my MXT metal detector. I started to wonder if the ring was inside a bag or box, but he said that none of his friends said anything after emptying them. So, a vehicle search began. nothing inside the car was found but when I moved the panel covering the spare tire in the trunk there his ring was hiding under it! James couldn’t believe it was there! Truly a case of less is more!

He Spiked it to Win It….

But during a short break to celebrate, Santhosh noticed his gold ring missing. With the court due back is session shortly for a final game, he sat out of bounds and called me. I arrived and both teams relocated to another court to allow me full access to search where Santhosh was playing. Grid searching with my MXT metal detector with the bigfoot coil covered the ground fast. As I closed in on an area near the net I got a nice clear signal. Reaching down thru the grass revealed Santhosh’s gold ring. Holding it up in victory his family came running to see it. Even tho his team lost without him, he felt recovering his ring was the « set » of a lifetime!

Where the Water Meets the Sand……

Was the partial voicemail left by Haida who texted next that she and a friend were picking up beach shells and driftwood when her ring fell off her finger. It was a very special ring, one that her sister had just presented to her for graduation. Getting too dark to search further, she went home and was hoping that her sister didn’t notice the ring missing. We met the next morning and Haida with her friend relocated where they remembered being. I noticed patterns on the sand where the tides gently rolled across the sand overnight. I began a grid search with my MXT metal detector at the water’s edge. Working in towards shore I sank into the sand almost a foot deep, it was very loose with rough edged granules. Getting a good signal, I started to sift thru the sand with my pin-pointer metal detector and felt it buzz next to my hand. Slowly bringing the scoop of sand up Haida’s ring revealed itself! Haida and her friend were up on solid ground with their backs turned so I just stood there holding the ring up. When they turned around, I never saw anyone run as fast to get their ring! Thinking it was lost forever Haida was extremely happy that it wasn’t, and now she’ll always stay in good standing with her sister through every high and low tide.

Tales of The Gold Lion…….

Began many years ago when Brandon’s grandfather purchased his wedding ring while active in the military. Back home in the Detroit area he was employed at an iron/steel processing plant. The ring survived being well travelled and subject to intense heat and was eventually passed to Brandon’s dad who travelled for business. At this point the ring had travelled thousands of miles and was given to Brandon after his father passed. Brandon chose to be a bit different and only wore the ring to special occasions. How nice, he thought if his father could have seen him wear the ring. Brandon’s son was of the age of knowing about the ring, so Brandon decided at an important family gathering to let him wear it. But somewhere while playing with his cousins the ring disappeared. Brandon was worried and questioned: Would this be the last tale told of the ring? On the phone I told Brandon that hunting for a gold metal lion was the only safari I was interested in! Setting up my MXT metal detector I started to grid search the area where the kids remembered roughhousing it in the grass. As I scanned the detector coil over the grass, I heard a huge ROAR in my headphones! Reaching down thru the grass I saw the face of a lion staring back at me! Brandon came running over and I told him this is as close as I want to get to a real lion! His son quickly followed, and I let him try the metal detector on the ring which he thought was really cool. Ahhhh yes, the tales of treasure lost, and treasure found…… another tale of the gold lion! What other tales of the gold lion will be told? Only time will tell.

Oh Snap! We’re in a Pickle Here….

Exclaimed Dan to his wife when he noticed his ring missing as they were pulling weeds in their vegetable garden. The weeds were being thrown in every direction, so Dan stressfully said he didn’t know what direction the ring went. I started metal detecting farther out near the fence then started to work my way in towards the garden while Dan paced back and forth. Swinging the metal detector coil over the vegetables I got a familiar signal and meter reading. Pin-pointing with my Garrett carrot I moved some dirt aside and asked Daniel, hey how did 14 karats get down here? He said, what? and came running over. Reaching down he had a nice smile planted on his face and said that I really knew how to root out a problem while remaining cool as a cucumber! I answered,,,keep calm and karat on!

Fast-Forwarding……

From the summer of 2024 to summer of 2025, Austin found it hard to believe that the year had passed so quickly. While him and the family enjoyed the new house, it was time to move again but around a year ago his wedding ring went missing. With 2 weeks left to vacate the house he often paused-rewound-replayed the events over the last year musing over where it may be. When I arrived, he had 2 locations he had a good vibe about. One was in an area where he was picking up the children’s toys for the winter and the other was in the neighbor’s yard while he was helping them install rabbit fence around a garden. I selected Track 1- « toys » and started grid searching with my MXT metal detector but all I heard was hissing/popping/crackle sounds thru my headphones from bad ground. Selecting Track 2 « rabbit fence » I started to metal detect the area and got a sweet-sounding tone thru the headphones. Digging down an inch revealed that the sweet melodious tune I heard was from Austin’s tungsten ring! As he reached down to pick up the ring, he was thrilled that we cued up the right track and it wasn’t just his imagination.
