Lost White Gold Men’s Wedding Band in the Snow Found in Garden City Michigan

  • from Detroit (Michigan, United States)

A Ruff Day…..

..Actually began for Travis Tuesday night when he took his dogs into the back yard and started to play in the snow. Toys were thrown and fetched and then snowballs tossed for the hounds to catch. After the wonder-fur time and frosty paws, with tails wagging the dogs went back into the house for the night as Travis shoveled snow off the deck. Early Wednesday, I got a text explaining that his ring was lost. I started to grid search with my MXT metal detector and got some junk signals but near the garage the detector signaled precious metal. Brushing the snow aside revealed Travis’ ring! He came over, we pawsed for a moment looking at it then he lifted the ring from the snow. Also very happy with the pawsitive outcome of the search, the dogs gave 4 paws up on the ulti-mutt recovery…….if you’re happy and you know it, clap your paws!

Lost Platinum Ring in the Snow Found in Grand Blanc Michigan

Platinum Deposit…..

…..When Adam called me asking if I wanted to go prospecting for platinum, I said sure but was not aware of any platinum deposits in Michigan. Further clarification determined that he lost his ring in the snow somewhere while cleaning the ice and snow off his car. Upon arrival I noticed chunks of brown colored ice that was in piles from being plowed/shoveled. Using my MXT metal detector I started a grid search where the vehicle was parked. I kept getting bad junk metal signals from somewhere in the asphalt, so I just ignored them as I knew the platinum would sound better. Slowly circling a particular area, I got a nice solid signal near some ice chunks. Reaching down thru some revealed his platinum deposit stuck in one. When I said I hit the motherlode Adam couldn’t believe that the ring was in that area. Thrilled that his ring was found I said that if he ever does come across another platinum deposit, I know a guy who can help recover it!

PUSH IT…..

…He pushed it real good and after the car was rockin’ a bit, it finally was unstuck from the snowbank. After Peter climbed back in and shook off the snow he and the wife continued with their errands. Upon arriving home with a sore shoulder, he settled in for the evening and enjoyed a warm meal. Shortly into that meal he noticed his wedding ring missing. Learning that they went to their storage unit during the snowstorm in Detroit area, I told him to chill out, if you catch my drift and I’d be out shortly. After checking their storage unit and where he carried in the groceries with no luck, the only spot left was where the car got stuck. Noticing that a plow had beat me to the location I used my MXT metal detector to search a few hundred feet along the gutter then I searched the curb strip area between the sidewalk and curb.  A few feet in I got a great signal and a meter reading that made sense with his ring type and size. Pinpointing down a few inches and brushing the show and ice chunks aside revealed his thick gold wedding band! I pointed down to the ring and he said, what!? I said this is snow joke man it’s your ring! After picking it from the snow we both agreed that it was a thaw-some recovery as he started to sing fr-eeze a jolly good fellow!

Hidden/Stray Nail Found Under Pool Liner in Southgate Michigan

  • from Detroit (Michigan, United States)

Pool of Thoughts……

….Got a call from Deb with an unusual request asking if I could find the reason her pool water was lowering faster than normal. She wanted to put the cover on but didn’t want all the water to drain out over the winter. She mentioned seeing damp spots off and on over the summer around the circumference of the pool and thought it was from the grandkids splashing around. On site I decided to dive into the cold water and metal detect the bottom, as metal detecting the sides was impossible due to the huge amount of metal. Years ago, in most cities the house construction debris was often buried in the back yard and over time some of this stuff finds its way to the surface even after excavating the ground, sand filling and leveling a new pool install. That’s exactly what I thought when I got a metal signal with the detector! Submerging down underwater with my pin pointer metal detector, feeling the object revealed it was a nail resting sideways with the head barely poking thru the liner. Resurfacing, then back underwater I took my knife and opened the hole large enough to pull out the rusty nail. Deb was in total disbelief. Using an underwater patch kit a few minutes later sealed up the hole. I finished up detecting the bottom liner portion and visually inspected the sides of the pool and with no other metal signals and the sides looking good I got out to dry off and warm up. I was hoping for one more water search this year before it got too cold and was thrilled to give this a go as unusual as it was. The nail find made a big splash with Deb, and with final thoughts I said….. If you never try, you’ll never sea!

Swinging Low, Swinging High….

….was the rhythmic motion Tom observed as his daughter was having fun on the swing set. As he was tightening some bolts on the set, she soared high thru the air. Leaning a bit too far back gazing at the bright blue sky she started to slip off the swing backwards. It was then Tom dropped his tools and rushed over to catch her and luckily, he brought her down safely. As nighttime was approaching, he gathered his tools and daughter and headed into the house. Settling in for a cozy night he noticed his family heirloom ring was missing. A short search in the dark brought no luck. I began a grid search around the swing set. No signals came thru my metal detector headphones. I decided to search a bit out aways from the set and got a clear signal. Brushing a few leaves from the grass surface revealed his beautiful ring pushed down into the ground like someone walked on it. Texting him to come out to where I was, he was bewildered to know it was out that far from the swing set. Extremely happy that his ring was found, his daughter was excited to continue having a great time on her swing with dad by her side!

Vampires in the Garden…..

….their monsters that lurk in your neighborhood that terrify you when your outside and want to suck your blood. That’s what happened to Robin as she was swarmed by mosquitos while pulling the last of her vegetables and weeds from the garden. Swatting at them she knocked her stud earring off into the grass. She searched with a toy type metal detector with no luck and enduring more bites from those pesky monsters, she reached out to me for help. With the mention of little vampires, I took a few garlic capsules and hit the road. Arriving on site I started a grid search with my metal detector. Searching in the bright light, I was not plagued by any mosquitos, but could tell that the woods next to the property was where they were probably hiding out. Metal detecting thru a small amount of house construction materials from long ago I finally got a great signal close to where the earring stud should be on the detector meter. Looking carefully thru the deep grass revealed Robin’s gold diamond stud earring! Texting that I found something pointy in the grass that doesn’t sting had her running out the side door. In total amazement she reached out and put the earring back into her ear! Thrilled that no extra garlic was needed she was thankful her earring was found and that no more little vampires will be haunting her Halloween!

Luv On the Rocks…..

….With just 2 months into their engagement, Derrick’s fiancée was excited to show her new ring to some lady friends. With all the stress of planning a wedding, she was excited to spend an evening with them over dinner, dancing and catching up. As the evening progressed, the ladies moved out to part of the dance floor deck that was adjoining the Clinton River. Sometime during a few fast tunes with arms flying wildly, high fiving and hugs she remembered her ring flying off and hitting something metal. The next day her and Derrick combed the ground area with no luck. When I arrived, the only place left to search was in the water. Lowering myself down onto some slippery rocks placed against a metal headwall, I was knee deep in the cloudy water. Searching with my metal detector I could only get so close to the headwall. The current was strong in this location, and I would not be able to venture out too much further without safety equipment. Scanning the metal detector out to almost waist deep water I got a good signal. Peering into the water with my snorkel mask revealed her ring resting on the edge of a flat rock with sticky muck just inches away! Derrick lowered a rope to me slacked out enough so I could go upstream a bit. Letting the current push my arm back I was able to reach down, see the ring thru my snorkel mask and grab it off the rock. A risky but successful recovery! Holding the ring up, Derrick was overpowered with energy and excitement! Upon reaching higher solid ground, we fist bumped, and both admired the ring! Not only was it a stunning rose gold band but the gemstone was a very pale yet beautifully cut Sapphire! Now with the symbol of their engagement off the rocks, they are ready to rock and roll into a beautiful life together!

Showing Off…..

….Was not the intention of Derek’s fiancée. However, after arriving home to a surprise engagement party the urge to brag was too overwhelming. As the evening progressed her ring was being passed around for friends and family to behold the beauty of it while the bride to be watching in close proximity. After dark she recalled it being returned to her but after getting into the house the ring was nowhere to be found. With family from out of state on their way to stay the weekend and all their friends present notified of the disappearance, what were they to do? Searching into the wee hours of the morning brought no luck. When I arrived, Derek went over the possible areas the ring could be. Using my MXT metal detector I started a grid search of the first area. Thankfully, this was the correct area from the signal and meter reading on the metal detector. Probing my pin-pointer thru the thick grass revealed this eye catching, stunningly beautiful ring! As I held it up Derek practically fell over into the grass in total disbelief that it was found. Reality set in quickly as he held it in his hand, cherishing the symbol and meaning of love for his fiancée and their future life together.

Lost Diamond Earring Found Inside House, Grosse Ile Michigan

A Diamond & the Ruff….

…..got a call from Vinnie that said his wife lost one of her diamond earrings and felt it was somewhere in the house. Sometime around 2am their dog was fussing about something so Claire got up and first went into the bathroom then headed in the dark to let the dog out into the backyard. Claire laid down on the couch for a few minutes and the dog finally returned. Returning to bed all was well until awakening and realizing the earring was missing. After chatting a bit to get more details, I did a walkthrough of the route that was taken to let the dog out. Visually not seeing anything, I started to scan the couch area with my orange Garrett carrot pin-pointer metal detector. Between 2 cushions I got a signal. Separating the cushions, I saw the earring stuck between them! Yelling to Claire that I found one of her best friends she came running over to reunite! Even though diamonds are formed under great pressure, when my Orange Garrett « karat » is under pressure, it makes finds that are a cut above the rest!

Sugar’s Mama….

…Cheryl had just arrived home after a busy day. Anxious to be home, her dog Sugar was excited in the vehicle and couldn’t wait to get out. As Cheryl put the leash on and started to head towards the house, Sugar caught scent of something and tried to bolt off. Cheryl pulled back on the leash and in the melee, her late husband’s ring flew off.  Remembering seeing the ring fly off and hearing it ping twice on something she looked around but couldn’t find it. Searching with my MXT metal detector made short work of the loss by finding it in the grass nowhere near where it came off. Now with the ring back in place I got to meet Sugar. I gave her a pat on the head and a wagging tail assured all was well again!
