How to find a lost ring in the snow, Richmond BC,

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Yesterday I received an email from a young lady that said her husband had lost his carbon tungsten wedding band the night before while throwing snow at his daughter. She said she found me because of a Facebook post she did in regards to her husband losing his ring. A group of mom’s told her to check out TheRingFinders.com

This email came just before I was to do a podcast for fascinatingnouns.com in regards to my service and TheRingFinders.com

I called the lady back and set up a time for the afternoon to come out and find the ring.

We just had some snow fall in the Vancouver area and the night before I found a set of keys for a person who was shovelling snow in his driveway.

I can be just as busy in the winter as I am in the summer as snow is wet and cold and peoples fingers shrink and rings come off.

After the podcast was done I jumped into my car and set out to Richmond to do the search. I met with Kirsten and she showed me the area where the ring was lost, then I started the search.

After 20 minutes and no ring Kirsten came back out and told me that her daughter said that they were much closer to the car.

I stared scraping the snow away from the vehicle so I was able to use my metal detector as anything close to the car would set the detector off. I got a great signal and moments later I had the ring!

I also went on another search for a young lady at UBC, but no luck on that one as she didn’t know where the ring had come off her finger.

It’s what I call a closure search as I just searched an area of grass where my metal detector could be used, now she can move forward and start looking at other places where it could be like the coffee shop or her dorm room.

Found Wedding Ring at English Bay Beach… Flying Home to Owner

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I got a call Friday and the young lady asked me what the chances are in finding a ring that was lost earlier in the week at English Bay Beach…She thinks it was lost there but wasn’t 100% sure of the location.

When I get calls like this I like to ask lots of questions and one was, why do you think it was lost at English Bay? She replied that she was in town on business and at lunch she went to the beach, ordered a hamburger and sat on a log enjoying a sunny day. After eating the hamburger she walked to the Watersedge and washed her hands, then went back to her hotel where she realized her ring was gone.

To me it made the most sense that the ring must have come off when she was washing her hands and I felt confident if she could put me in the right area we’d have a good chance of recovery. That being said it was lost for four days and there’s always a chance some other metal detectorist may have found it.

The other factor was that she was now back home in Ottawa, Eastern Canada, 4 hour flight away. Saturday morning I picked up my metal detector and headed to the beach, I took pictures of the area she believed she was sitting and she confirmed the location…You have to love the internet! Without it, people wouldn’t find TheRingFinders and no second chance!

Within a couple of minutes I found her wedding band! I get as excited as the people who lose it when I see it in my scoop. I quickly took a picture of the ring and text messaged her it was found.

I then raced over to FedEx and sent it back home to a very happy young lady.

Lost My Ring In The Garden, North Vancouver, BC.

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

It was a rainy day and I got a call to search for a lost ring in a garden in Lynn Valley, North Vancouver. I love these calls and rain or snow wouldn’t stop me from searching!

The young lady was certain the ring was some where in the garden because she took it off and put it in her jacket pocket along with her glasses.

She found the glasses in the garden but no ring, I started by searching the bags of garden trimmings but no luck. I then began to search the garden area and still no luck, I asked more question and she told me that she spent an hour in the garden shed.

Bing! That was the one place we hadn’t checked and after searching the whole shed the very last plastic planter I got a great signal with my pin pointer.

There it was in the bottom of the plastic planter…it was a nice relief to see it there as we were running out of options! Its funny where rings can show up and if it didn’t it may have been there a very long time.

River gold & palladium… Wedding band lost in South Surrey river.

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I got a call from a young man Friday evening and the call kinda went like this…I found you on TheRingFinders.com and my friend lost his wedding band while taking wedding photo’s at a river in South Surrey…Do you think you can help?

I said sure thing and we discussed the time and day we’d go look for it. I was hoping we could take a look on Saturday but they would still be celebrating their big day.

That was good because I had a search for a 3 carat diamond ring that was dropped out of an apartment building 44 floors up ($5000 reward) unfortunately there was only about a 5% chance of finding that ring because it was a concrete jungle all around the area it was dropped.

I met up this afternoon with Sunny and his friend Sandy and they showed me where the ring was lost…I was surprised to see that it was lost off a dock! I thought it was close to the shore. Fortunately the tide was low and I was able to get into the water very close to the ring.

I received a good signal 6 feet or so under the dock and it was hard to try and dig the target so what I did was scoop towards me and after 10 minutes I found his beautiful ring!!!

I told him I was going to get out of the water and get another metal detector from my car,  but instead I presented him with his ring! I love the reactions!

Lost custom gold wedding band in the ocean at Kits Beach, Vancouver…Found!

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I got a call from a young man who told me that he lost his custom gold wedding band in the ocean while trying to learn how to paddle board.

The water was rough that day and he had a hard time getting up on the board, he kept falling into water and he remembered that it was waste deep and a sandy bottom.

That helps me a lot as when I went down there on the slope at low tide there was a lot of rocks and further out there was the sand. He told me that he didn’t know when the ring came off his finger and that makes it hard to narrow down the area.

He put me in an area of about 70 yards wide and about 60 yards long…That is pretty huge when you’re in water and looking for something as small as a ring but I love the search!

After listening to his story many times I desided to start the search out front of where he entered the water and I went up to waist deep and started searching up and back from waist deep to ankle deep and after the 5th gridline and only an hour I hit a strong loud & proud signal and I was thrilled to see the gold in the scoop!

Lost gold ring in backyard…South Surrey, BC

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I was at work when I got a call from a young lady who said that he daughter lost her ring that was given to her by her bother. She said that she googled and found TheRingFinders and thought that she would give it a chance.

I could tell she was a little sceptical but most people are until you find what they’ve lost then they become belivers!

She told me that they had a wedding party in their back yard and that’s where her 9 year old daughter was last seen with the ring.

I arrived at her place in the evening and it was dark but that is fine for me! I don’t mind working at night and sometimes its easier and not as hot.

She showed me where her daughter said that she’d lost the ring and after a couple of minutes and no ring I just expanded the search a little and bang! There was her ring sitting in the yellow grass and hard to see but my detector see’s it all…

Lost Diamond Ring at Vancouver Park / Playground…Found!

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I had a early morning search in a lake at Whistler, BC that took me 1 hour & 45 minutes each way. I arrived 7am to find out the the ring was lost in water that was over my head…I still tried by standing on a log near the dock and trying to detect around the area but after 2 hours I packed it up and called a diver from my directory to come out and find it.

Just 20 minutes away from home I got a call from a young lady who asked if I could help find her diamond ring that was lost at a playground. She found TheRingFinders.com online and called…I was on my way!

I met with the family and she showed me the areas the ring could have been lost then she took a cab to work while her husband & kids stayed behind. The crazy thing was that she put her rings in her pocket and when she went to put them back on all she had was her wedding band…Some how the engagement ring disappeared.

I searched the most likely areas like the swing and slide but no ring? I then started a grid from where they parked to where they sat on the ground and after 2 lines of the grid there was the ring slightly covered by grass.

Lost diamond ring at Spanish Banks Beach…Found after 2 days!

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I was at work when I got a call from a young lady who asked if I could help her find her lost diamond ring. I asked where it was lost and when it was lost and she told me it was lost at Spanish Banks beach and that it was lost for 2 days and that she’d cried for 2 days.

She said that she happened to read a story online about a member of TheRingFinders and thought that she had to reach out and give it a shot.

I explained that there was a chance that the beach machine could have scooped it up or another detectorist could have found it as it was lost for 2 days.

That being said I was excited to go to the beach after working a 14 hour day because for me this is what relaxes me the most…A good treasure hunt!!

It was 11 PM and the young lady sent me a google earth map of the location where she’d lost the ring.

She said it was in front of the volley ball court # 3 or #4 I started my search and after searching all of court 3 & 4 I had no ring…Could have someone already found it? maybe or maybe she was a little off with her directions.

I expanded my search to court 5 & 6 and I found the ring minutes later in front of court 6 where she was sitting.

Lost wedding band at Sunset Beach, Vancouver…Found!

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I got a call mid day asking if I could help find a lost ring at the beach, I asked my normal questions in regards to where it was lost and there was two places it could be… one was the volleyball court and the second place was the ocean. It was a hot day so I kinda was hoping it was in the ocean so I could cool down but after 30 minutes or so I found the ring in the volleyball court!

I love the reaction when the young man and his wife when I found the ring! He told me he was in the dog house for loosing his ring after only being married for 3 weeks so he was very happy to have it back!

Unfortunately I lost the footage of this recovery and I’m so bummed as they were so happy to get the ring back and their reactions were priceless…Something I’ll never forget.

Found 4 Gold Rings at Jericho Beach, Vancouver.

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I’m at work and the phone rings I was thinking maybe its a ring call…It was but not your normal ring call…The lady who is French Canada and visiting Vancouver with her family had a horrible experience at one of our local beaches…

She lost all 4 of her rings! How? She like others took them off to put suntan lotion on herself and her children, she put the rings on her towel. Hours later forgetting she did that she lifted up the towel and walked away.

Could you imagine the gut wrenching feeling she must’ve had when she looked down and saw no rings on her fingers!  As you could imagine she was devastated!

Her and her husband went right back to the area they had  spent the day and searched in the sand for over an hour but had no luck finding the 4 rings.

Not giving up, 2 days later she got online and found me on TheRingFinders.com she couldn’t believer her eyes as she & her husband never thought there was such a service.

A phone call later and a late night search vpervided a successful recovery of all 4 rings! What an amazing feeling for me and an emotional one for her!
