Wedding Ring Lost while Body Surfing Quintana Beach Freeport, Texas by John Volek TRF-Houston

Wedding Ring Lost while Body Surfing Quintana Beach Freeport, Texas

I was contact by Dallas a resident of Houston, Texas who was looking for someone to help him find his lost wedding ring…

Dallas reported he and his wife (Addie) were on vacation at Quintana Beach in Freeport, Texas when Dallas had the mis-fortune of losing his wedding ring in the Gulf of Mexico.

Dallas reported while at the beach with his wife, they ventured into the water to do a little body surfing…Dallas reported after catching a few waves he realized his wedding ring was gone.

Dallas said as he was not sure at what point his ring had come off his finger, but he felt pretty confident his ring was gone forever!

Dallas said Addie was doing a little research on the internet when she came upon a post by Houston Metal Detecting Services – The Ring Finders Houston, Texas…Addie said, it was a moment of hope!

Dallas and Attie, were able to provide some very specific land marks on the beach, which where the deciding factors in pursuing this recovery effort.

Based on the location and recovery details, I knew this would need to be a two-man effort minimal…I reached out to a good friend Carl Sedita again and laid out the details.

After looking over all of the details, we knew it would be a long-shot, but we decided to give it a try for Dallas and Addie…

Lost Texas A&M Class Ring Clear Creek (Houston, Texas

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)

Lost Texas A&M Ring while kayaking the rain swollen Clear Creek (Houston, Texas)

Tuff searching conditions and negative results were the unfortunate outcome of this year’s first search.

I was contacted by Joe who found « The Ring Finders » on-line while searching for help on how to find his lost ring. Joe said, he and his girlfriend had been navigating their way down Clear Creek in their kayaks when he managed to lose his ring.

Joe said the kayaking conditions were tuff, with muddy conditions at both the launch and recovery locations. Joe said he believed the ring may have slipped of hos finger in the muddy conditions at either the launch or recovery location.

Joe’s new 2016 class ring was not found, but we plan to return in the following month when the water in the creek has receded. The edges of the creek were very steep and slippery, with waters depths exceeding any possibility of entering the water safely.

Lost Wedding Ring Lake Lewisville, Texas

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)

Lost Wedding Ring Lake Lewisville, Texas

October 2014

Received the following e-mail:

Subject: Wedding band lost in Lake
Hello,
I came across your website and was wondering if you could find my lost wedding band.  I see you are in Houston.  I live in the DFW area and lost my wedding band this weekend in Lake Lewisville.  I have the exact location.  It would require you to dive about 20-25 feet with scuba gear.  I only had it for two months and I am willing to pay you for your services.  Please let me know.
Thanks.
Richard

I contacted Don Wilson from The Ring Finders in Dallas and relayed the call information to him, and my interests in attempting a recovery. Lake Lewisville is in Don’s backyard and I knew he would know all the logistical aspects of the search location.

Don did all the ground work on this job, taking photographs of the search location, meeting with Richard at dock weeks prior, and making all the arrangement with the marina for our visit. Having the Dallas team present (Don and Ellen) and their son Tripp was the only reason this recovery attempt was even possible.

Don, Ellen, and Tripp thank you again for everything…

The dock in Lake Lewisville  (the search location)

The depth 23″ feet, and after the 12′ mark total blackness down to the bottom at 23′, the bottom a soft silt mud. Utilized a custom made PVC dive pole to mark the primary search location from the surface. Used a boogie board leash as a lanyard attachment to the PVC pole ensuring I would not drift off of the search location (essentially cave diving in total darkness). The dangers in these black water dives is becoming entangled in or under one of the boat lifts or dock while ascending back to the surface.

You can see from the photograph above, overhead obstacles where a significant obstruction, basically you had to work your way under the lift to descend to the mark.

Now for the downside, after one hour and ten minutes of bottom time, I could not find that missing RING. The bottom of the boat slip at 23′ provided its own challenges, laden heavy with scrap material from the docks construction, and other large miscellaneous metal items made the search a real challenge.

The two lawn chairs above were fastened together with a cable lock and were an unexpected find at the bottom. I worked the bottom with a handheld Vibra-Tech 730 sifting through 4-5 inches of mud pulling up targets.

Large pieces of iron, cut pad locks, small nails and bottle tops were among the assortment of recovered items.

Lost Ring Lake Conroe, Texas (Recovered)

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)

08/17/2014 Lost Ring Lake Conroe, Texas (Recovered)

I was contacted by Katie on Saturday regarding her husband’s Lost Wedding Ring in Lake Conroe. Katie said she located me on The Ring Finders directory and wanted to know if I could assist her in recovering her husband’s wedding ring. Katie said the ring was in about 4 foot of water off the dock behind their residence on Lake Conroe.

An excerpt from our communications on Saturday.

Hi john…its Katie Harris. I spoke to you regarding my husband’s ring that I lost off of our boat dock. So mad at myself. He had his original ring stolen, and we just replaced it a week ago…and now I lost it!!

I asked Katie some details about the location and she was able to provide very descriptive information on the search location. (water depth, bottom conditions –mud, sand or sludge) and whether there was public access to the area to determine the urgency in our recovery efforts.

Katie had been cleaning out her pool skimmer baskets and tossing the leaves and pine needles into the lake. Katie had put on her husband’s wedding ring earlier as a reminder to take it to the jewelry store.

I asked Katie to send me some photographs of the dock and the area she believed the ring had been dropped in the water.

Katie sent me the following photographs of the dock and search area.

I actually measured…it dropped about 48 inches out at the angle i drew from boat dock-Katie

I made arrangement with Katie to be at her residence the following morning. The plan was to meet with her son Tyler at the residence Sunday morning. I arrived around 10am Sunday morning and meet with Tyler who walked me through the events that led to ring being lost.

I was thinking this was going to be a very fast recovery as the perceived area to be searched was very small. I set out with the At Gold and found the bottom to be relatively clean of signals.  I worked the search area several times with negative results. I pushed the search area out a little further thinking the ring flew a little farther than Katie might have thought. I hit a couple of promising targets, but they were not the missing ring.

I closed in tighter on the search area, and started working under the dock were Katie had been standing and tossing the leaves. Bingo, I hit the ring right next to the edge of the dock, it was  on one of the piers footings.

I was glad to find the ring, I knew it meant a lot to Katie and her husband.

Lost Engagement Ring Colorado River Wharton, Texas (Recovered)

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)

Lost Engagement Ring Colorado River Wharton, Texas (Recovered)

I received a call from Sarah Saturday evening who was clearly upset about having just lost her engagement Ring in the Colorado River in Wharton, Texas. Sarah said she and her Fiancé Walsh and several friends were playing in the Colorado River this afternoon when her ring fell off and landed in the river. Sarah said she new the moment it happened and sat down immediately to mark the spot. Another friend found a stick on the shoreline and marked the location in the river as a reference point. (now that was some good teamwork and quick thinking)

Sarah sent the following photographs of the location on the Colorado River, you can just make out the branch in the water where their marker stake was driven into the ground. Sarah wanted an immediate response, but it was already late and working in the dark on the river was not an option.

I met Walsh and Sarah at their River house 07/27/2014 Sunday morning , and was very graciously greeted by both in the driveway of their residence. I found out later the Diamond in Sarah’s engagement had belonged to Walsh’s great grandmother and simply could not be replaced.

Walsh and I made the descended down to the river. The river crossing wasn’t really bad, mostly only a few feet deep and a nice sandy bottom.

The beach on the far side was my target for getting set up and establishing my search pattern and grid. Sarah provided oversight from the high bank and would often provide additional search details from her location.

About and hour into the search I got a nice low tone on the CTX3030. I had pulled numerous false signals at this point and I knew this was going to be something different.  The river had a nice sandy bottom, and the current would flush the bucket with little or no effort. I pulled the bucket out of the water looked in it and saw Walsh’s great grandmothers diamond.

A Bear Hug from Walsh immediately followed. 🙂 and then Sarah disappeared from sight on the high bank, turns out she was rolling on the ground overwhelmed with happiness.

Lost Wedding Ring Lake Livingston, Texas (Recovered)

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)

A Wedding Ring Lost 4 years ago in Lake Livingston, Texas (Recovered)

07/22/2014

I received a call from Jane regarding her husbands lost wedding ring in Lake Livingston. Jane said her husband had lost his ring off the dock at her parents house on Lake Livingston a little over 4 years ago, She said his birthday was coming up and she was hoping we could find the ring and she could surprise him on his birthday. I asked Jane some additional details about the search and received the following photographs of the search area. Arrangements were made to meet on 07/26/2014 Saturday morning to search for the lost ring. I arrived early Saturday morning and Jane walked with me to the dock and pointed out the area needing to be searched. Jane explained how the ring had been lost and pointed out where in the water she believed the ring may have landed when it came off her husbands hand.

The search area water depth was between 4 and 5 feet deep in most areas.

The bottom was a thick gumbo mud and sifting the scoop after finding a target was an impossible task. Jane’s brother John assisted in laying out a tarp on the dock were every scoop containing a target was dumped. John used one of my pin-pointers and sifted through the mud hoping to uncover the ring.

A little over an hour into the search, I pulled up another target and sitting right on top of the mud in the scoop was the missing ring.

One of our sponsor at “The Ring Finders” is Anderson Detector Shafts (www.andersondetectorshafts.com) a provider of great metal detecting equipment. They have just sent me there newest Carbon Fiber multi-configuration shaft for the Excalibur II for testing and evaluation.

My initial thoughts after unboxing the detector shaft was WOW. Extraordinary quality, light weight, three configurations, durability for long term use in Salt water. I immediately new this would be the only detector shaft I would ever need for the Excalibur.

The shaft can be configured into any of the following set ups: Scuba Shaft, Over and Under, or the Long Shaft.
