Shawn called me asking if I could help him. It was a unique request, he and his friend had buried an ammo box (time capsule) full of their personal things 8 years prior, and now decided to dig it up. His friend had gotten very ill, so Shawn thought it would be something that could bring a bit of light back to him if he brought this memory to his friend. Also he was doing some construction in the area, and thought the time capsule might be covered, making the recovery impossible, so he wanted to get I found. We arranged a time when we were both available to do the search.

When I arrived, Shawn took me to the area, and showed me where he believed the box had been buried. It wasn’t a very big area, maybe 8×8 feet, but the ground was very hard and rocky, so a general dig would have been difficult. I tried one detector, and was receiving too much interference from surrounding metal, then switched detectors to be able to pin point the buried box better. I found one signal that was intermittent, so I continued to look. I then found another better signal under an earthen ledge. Shawn seemed to think the second signal might have been closer to the area where the box was originally buried, so he began to dig there. He carved out a few inches of the ledge with no box, so I checked again, but this time checked the depth range on the detector. It showed that he needed to go in about 9 to 10 inches, so he continued to dig. He finally hit something hard and metallic, and figured he found the box. He dug a little more finding that it was the box. Shawn then called his children and their friend over to finish the dig so as to include them in the excitement of finding « buried treasure ». It was fun to see their excitement as they dug out the time capsule, and then opened it up. I am sure that Shawn’s friend will also find some joy in seeing this item he and his good friend had participated in burying together. This is truly a fun service to be a part of!

Keys Lost in the Water at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found and Returned.

After finding the engagement ring yesterday, I headed to Hermosa Beach for a scheduled search. I had been contacted by Bob who had lost his « large » set of keys at 2 o’clock Saturday morning while playing around in ankle deep water. He had them in his pocket while he and his friends were running around having a good time. When Bob checked for his keys (many important keys for sure), they were gone. He found me on The Ring Finders web site, and gave me a call. He was not able to be there for the search, but I let him know I would go if he gave me the area he had been in. I then scheduled my search.

I got to the spot at the right tide to allow me to get as far down the slope as possible. I had my waders on, and proceeded into the water to get out as far as I thought would be prudent for a search. I made one pass, and then on the second pass just where the waves were flowing over the sand, I received a strong multi ID signal. I was hopeful because Bob told me there were a lot keys. I had to dig down at least 12 inches, and out came Bob’s keys. I got really excited to have found them. They had gone down a lot in 3 days, but fortunately were within range of my detector. When I saw them I could tell there were some very important keys there including 2 car keys. I called Bob to let him know I found them, and he was amazed, he really did not expect to ever see them again. We arranged to meet today, and I brought his keys to him, and made him very happy. Yesterday was surely a great day for recoveries!

Wedding Ring Lost Christmas Eve at Newport Beach, CA…Found and Joyfully Returned.

I was relaxing at home Christmas Eve afternoon when I received a call from Yogi. He was on vacation from Houston, TX to visit with family for the Holidays. He had lost his wedding ring at the beach while throwing a football to his family members. They had been there earlier in the day when it happened. They searched for the ring but could not find it. They talked of renting a metal detector, but it was Christmas Eve. One of the family members searched the internet, and found The Ring Finder’s web site where they located me. Yogi told me that he would meet me at the beach, and I told him I would be on my way.

When I got to the beach, I walked out and met with Yogi. He showed me how they had marked out the area of where he believed the loss to have occurred. The good thing was that he had been throwing away from the water, so I knew there would be a better chance of a recovery. I began a grid, and worked my way up and back getting a few faint signals, I dug them, but they were not fruitful. I then narrowed my search to a specific area, and made a few more passes, and on the turn of the last pass I got a good strong signal and dug again. There in the bottom of my scoop was Yogi »s ring, the 24K gold band gleaming in the sunshine. I held it up while he was taking pictures of his family. He did not notice at first, but the rest of the family saw the ring and began clapping and shouting for joy which caught Yogi’s attention. He looked up, and with a great big smile came over and accepted his ring. What a joy it is to restore someone’s joy to them.

I was spending time with my family during the holidays in 2017 on Newport beach, and happened to be tossing a football with my cousins.  About an hour later, I noticed my wedding ring was missing.  I had a feeling that it happened during the football toss.  I had mentioned it to my wife about me misplacing it, she was not too thrilled.

My cousin and I rushed back to the spot, but couldn’t locate the ring.  He pulled up a site called Ring Finders on the web, and told me to call. I called and Steve Smith picked up and said that he was on his way.  I asked how much the service was, and he said whatever we felt we wanted to pay. This was Christmas Eve so we were a bit worried about any one actually working.

Steve arrived, and I told him what had happened. I couldn’t believe that within such a short time, he was able to produce the ring!  We chatted for a few minutes, and he told me about his method.  Best part of our conversation was the reason why he did it, he said it was THAT moment when he finds the item and how the mood changes in an instant!

iPhone Lost at Manhattan Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

Monday morning I had just gotten up when I received a call from Carly. She and her family had gone to the beach to experience the city’s Christmas fireworks the night before. They had created a little seating area in the sand, and her husband gave her his iPhone to hold for him, which she dutifully placed in her purse for safekeeping. During their time there her youngest got up and began running from the group, which caused Carly to jump up to give chase. During the chase, not realizing her purse was still open, the phone came out and embedded itself in the sand. She had not realized what happened until her husband asked for his phone. It was dark, and there was a lot of sand, and their searching became futile. Carly was not able to sleep, and found me on The Ring Finders site at 3:00 AM, thankfully she waited until 7:00 AM to call:-) I let her know that I would be there as soon as I got ready, and asked if she could make sure the county beach sifters left that area alone by waiting at the spot until I got there.

When I got to the beach Carly was waiting with her little one, a young bundle full of energy. She showed me the area they had been sitting, and I asked about what had happened, and where they ran to. I began my search, and Carly took her little one to the swings not far off. I made about 3 passes when I received an overpowering signal, and decided to just brush the sand aside with my foot. There it was, not 2 inches under the sand. I picked it up, wiped the dust off on my shirt, and waved it towards Carly, who became very excited, grabbed her son and ran over. While she was on her way, a group of people on a balcony overlooking the area commenced clapping for our success. What a great morning, lots of happy people.

Ruby and Diamond Pendant Lost at Palos Verdes Estates, CA Beach…Found and Joyously Returned.

Karyn called last night and explained how she had gone to a particular beach to get pictures taken for a holiday photo shoot. During the process of the photography session she was putting on and taking off a shoulder wrap. It seems that while removing the wrap, it unhooked the chain that held her ruby and diamond pendant. She noticed it missing and went back to scour the rocks where it would have fallen. She looked and was able to find the chain that held the pendant, but not the pendant itself. We talked about it, I asked some questions, and we agreed to meet this morning.

When I got to the beach Karyn was waiting for me and took me down to the spot where she believed the pendant to have been lost. She showed me where she had found the chain,and where she had been sitting during the photo shoot. I began my search, and was getting thrown off by the mineralization of the seaweed in the area. I made a few adjustments and continued the search. I was not able to find the pendant, but Karyn said she had also been sitting in another area as well  and showed me where to look. I began searching in the new area, and when I got to the place she had been sitting, I received a good tone in the head phones and looked down. I could see the edge of something wedged between 2 rocks and reached down to check it out. I then pulled up the pendant and showed it to Karyn who immediately came over and gave me a big hug. She had been given a necklace many years back, and decided she would like to do something different with it, so on a vacation trip to India her friend convinced her to bring the necklace along, and while in India had it transformed into this awesome pendant. How special is that? It was truly a pleasure to be able to help Karyn today.

TODAY WAS MY LUCKY DAY
My pendant was found by Steve Smith, the best ring and pendant finder hands down.
I had this necklace that was given to me in the 80’s it was really 80’s looking and I wanted a more contemporary piece.
I was telling my girlfriend that I wanted it redone.
I happened to be going to India towards the end of last year with her and she told me she had the finest Jeweler in Delhi.
I carried that necklace with me to India and met with the jeweller.
I sat for about an hour designing this and felt so proud of the out come. I cherished it.
Flash forward to today  I was doing our Christmas pictures in Palos Verdes on the rocks at the beach no less.
I came home and noticed it was gone.
I had a knot in my stomach, I was so upset.
Ran back the next day and found the chain ,but no pendant.
Then I got  frantic it had to be there it just had to.
I could not find it anywhere.
Went home went online and found Steve.
He was just awesome. Asking me questions and he was so calm.
We met the next day and I was so impressed with his gadgets he set up and he went to town.
He’s thorough and precise.
It helped that I guided him to where I was sitting.  I was in 2 locations.
I was pacing and digging a hole to China while he was diligently scanning.
And then he held it up and said is this it ?
I shrieked in happiness and ran to hug and kiss him.
He found it he found it, he found it.
Today was my lucky day:)
