I was contacted by Andrew and Gayle about a lost earring. They had been at the park the day before, and in the process of removing her purse, the strap scraped Gayle’s ear removing her earring. She reached up to feel it and all she could feel was the backing that was still stuck to the back of her ear lobe. It was lost in the thick grass. We decided on a time to meet, and I was on my way.

When I got there they were waiting for me. They took me into the park, and explained that they had used a metal detector, but found that there was continual beeping from the ground, which proved to be frustrating. I got out the detector that I normally use for stud earrings. We put the other earring in a Ziplock bag, and placed it on the ground, where I checked it to make sure my detector would « see » it. It did, and the pin pointer would barely pick it up. I began, and immediately found that my detector was sounding off every 3 to 4 inches, it seemed as though the city placed metal screening below the sod to hold it in place, which wasn’t good. I then decided to use the other detector I brought with me which has a VDI readout, and again tested the earring. It was able to « see » it also, and I got a number to go on, eliminating all the other stuff that was setting the detectors off. It didn’t take long before I received a number close to what I was looking for, and put in the pin pointer. I moved it around, got a reading, and then there, there it was! I picked it up, and gave it to Andrew, who went to show his wife. She came back, and all I was getting was hugs from her and her mom. What an awesome time!

Charisse contacted me with a bit of desperation in her voice. She had just lost her diamond wedding ring in the sand, and to her surprise was completely unable to find it. She was going to be leaving the beach soon, and really needed some help. I was on my way!

When I got to the beach Charisse met me, and brought me over to where she believed the loss occurred. She showed me what happened, and where she believed the ring should be. Sometimes though, the ring ends up where you would least expect it to be, but not this time. A couple of swings with my detector, one scoop of sand, and back on Charisse’s finger was her beautiful wedding ring. A wonderful afternoon!

I received a call from Winter who had lost her ring at the beach. She had taken it off, and placed it in a pouch in her purse, but when she got back to the car to leave she found the ring was missing. This ring had been her grandmother’s wedding ring, so it had great sentimental value to her. I let her know that I would be on my way.

I got to the beach as soon as I was able, and found Winter who was with some of her family. We went over what she did, and what she believed had happened. She then mapped out an area of where she believed the loss could have occurred. I began at one side of the area, and worked my way over to the other side finding a few coins, and some trash metal, but no ring. I then began to expand out, and searched out at least 15-20 feet to each side to insure the ring did not flip into another area; no ring. At that point we decided to follow her path back to the car, and I asked her to be as precise as possible, because I have about 3 feet each side of me to search as I swing the detector, a six foot pathway total. Nothing on the pathway, then we came to a wall where she said she took her keys out of the purse, so I worked along the wall, got a good signal, and in the scoop was a fine gold ring with diamond an onyx. I looked at her and asked what does it look like, and she exclaimed, « Just like that! » She was so excited to have it back, having resigned to not finding it by the time we had finished searching the first area. Patient persistence, is what pays off in doing these searches, and we as Ring Finders don’t give up, even when things seem hopeless, we make sure every possible place is eliminated. Joy restored!

I got a call from Scott who had lost his wedding ring the previous day on the volley ball court at the beach, and wondered if I would be able to help him. He found my information on The Ring Finders site, and seemed comfortable with the group’s integrity. I let him know I could help, and we worked out a time to meet.

When I arrived, Scott and I found each other, and he took me over to the court where he believed the loss occurred. He explained how he had been sitting in a specific area, and how he believed the loss happened. I could see where he had been searching by the grid marks in the sand. He told me he had searched for at least an hour and a half, but was unable to find the ring. He had marked where he had been sitting, so that was where I began my search. It took me all of about 5 swings of the detector to find Scott’s ring right in front of where he had been sitting, and right in the middle of his grid. He was so happy to have his awesome ring back, and I was happy to be able to help!

Esteban and Clair called after she had lost her Tiffany & Co. necklace in the sand at the beach. She had placed it on her towel, and forgot it there when she rose and shook the sand off of it. They looked for it with no success, and found me on The Ring Finders web site and called. I was able to leave immediately to do the search, which was in the evening, which allowed the crowds to diminish.

I got to the beach in good time, and walked out to find Esteban and Clair. They had stayed in the exact spot where the loss occurred which is always a help to recover a lost item. They told me what was lost, and showed how it was lost, so I began my search in the area. I heard a signal almost immediately, but after trying to dig it, the signal disappeared when I rescanned the hole, and nothing in the scoop. I went forward a bit turned, and rescanned the hole, another signal the same as last but very faint. I dug again, and nothing in the scoop. I rescanned the hole again, and the signal was gone again. I then turned my scoop over to dump the excess sand out when I saw a real fine chain hanging out the back with a small heart attached to it. The heart was so small it was going through the scoop. I reunited Clair with her necklace which made her day. What great smiles!

I got a call from Simon about his lost ring at the beach. He had given the ring to his girlfriend to hold while he went swimming. When they were getting ready to leave, they were cleaning off their belongings, when the ring flew off his girlfriend’s finger, and was immediately lost in the sand. It was after dark when he called, but I reassured Simon that I would be able to search in the dark, and that we should do the search right away, so I left for the search.

I got to the beach around 9:30 PM, and was able to meet Simon who took me directly to the spot they had been earlier in the day. I could see the search marks in the sand, and knew we were in the right place. I began my grid going over where they had looked, but the ring was not there. Simon showed me another spot, so instead of just going to the next area, I worked my way over, and on that path I got a good signal in the head phones, dug and had this real nice gold and diamond ring in my scoop. I pulled it out and asked Simon if he recognized it. At that moment he was in disbelief that it had been found, and so quickly. He was so happy to have it back, and his girlfriend would also be relieved to have the responsibility of having lost it taken off of her. A great night for sure!

I received a call from Phoebe who had been at the beach a couple of days earlier, and saw a couple searching the sand for something. As a concerned citizen, she wanted to help, and joined with some others in searching for a lost wedding ring. Unfortunately they were unable to find it, so undeterred Phoebe started talking to friends, and neighbors as to how to help the couple find the ring when The Ring Finders was recommended. Phoebe found me on the site and asked if I could help, as the couple was leaving to go home to Nevada that day. I let her know that it would be best to wait until later in the evening so that the crowds would be gone, and allow me free access to area of the loss, which she understood.

When I got there it was dark, and most people had gone home. The area that Phoebe had marked for me was free, so I got over, and began my search. I searched one way out 30 feet with no signal. I then began my search in the other direction, when after 3 passes, I got a strong signal, dug, and in my scoop was a real nice heavy ring. I took a picture and sent it in a text to her, in which she was surprised as I was, that it was still there. She then gave me an address of a friend close by so that I could drop it off, and she was going to mail it back to the couple the next day. I received a thank you from Jose’ when he got his ring back in Nevada.  A great day!

It was just last October when I received a call from Ashley who’s daughter had lost her gold Tiffany & Co. necklace charm in the sand of Torrance Beach. We had a successful search, but I was surprised to get another call for the same charm lost at a different beach. Well, I did not hesitate, but left immediately to recover the lost charm.

When I got there Ashley found me and lead me to their spot to search. She showed me where she thought it might be, and the sifter that someone had loaned them to use for their search, but they were unable to find it. I remembered that the charm was too small for my scoop, and would just fall through the holes back into the sand, so I brought a plastic spoon with very small holes to sift out the charm when it was found. I went over the area she showed me, got a good signal, scooped with my spoon, and after a couple minutes of shaking, there in the bottom was the charm. Ashley was surprised, because they had gone over that area already with the sifter they had with no luck. Remember, If you lose something a second time, don’t feel embarrassed about it, but like Ashley, call me back, and we will find it again!

I received a call from Molly while on my way home from picking up dinner for my wife and I. Molly had lost her gold solitaire engagement ring in the sand, and was hoping I could find it for her. I asked if she could wait at the spot a little while so I could eat my meal, and I would leave immediately after, and she agreed that would be fine. I then proceeded to wolf down my meal in order to get on the road, because I know how disheartening it is for someone to lose something very precious to them, and think it might be lost forever. When lost, the story of the ring stops, and we help to continue the story. I also know that we as Ring Finders offer hope to people. I let Molly know when I was on my way.

When I got to the beach Molly and I found each other. She proceeded to show me what had happened. She also had wisely marked the spot because the tide was coming in, and washing over the area making it all look the same. I began, and received a good signal believing I found the ring, but only brought up a piece of aluminum. I continued the search, and then received another good signal, dug, and had Molly’s ring in the scoop. I pulled it out, and gave it to her, and which point she became very emotional. I could see how much that token of love meant to her. I was so happy to restore her joy!

Three Gold Pendants Lost in the Sand of Marina Del Rey Beach…Found and Joyfully Returned.

I received a call from Guy right after dinner. I had been relaxing with my wife watching a little television when he called. He told me about his loss of some pendants that had great sentimental value to him, he had on a chain around his neck. His dog was playing when she jumped on him, and accidentally broke the chain, and everything went flying into the sand. He was able to find his chain, but not the pendants. He told me he marked the spot which was a good thing. I let him know that I would come immediately to do the search which surprised him, but I know from years of experience, that the sooner the search is made the better the chance of a recovery, as there are too many variables that come into play as time goes on to diminish the possibility of finding the lost item.

When I got to the beach Guy was waiting for me, and we walked out in the darkness to do the search. The main concern was finding the item Guy used to mark the area of the loss. We both had out lights on searching. I was a little worried because the super high tide might have washed his marker away. Finally close to 10:00 PM Guy found it. It was a 2×4 that he had forced into the sand, and although the water came up it did not move. I began my search on one side of the marker where Guy thought the items fell with no signals. I then began on the other side, and received a signal which I dug, and poured out the sand. I checked again, picking up a load of sand. After I shook it out, in my scoop was a gold ring which Guy identified as his mother’s. I ran my coil over the area again getting another signal, scooped and had his gold cross. One more time and I was able to give him his daughter’s name in gold. A successful search with a very happy, and relieved Guy!

Guy sent the following testimonial:

Hi,

My name is Guyen (Guy) and I was taking my daughters pet Luna for a walk on the Marina del Rey beach on Monday the 21st 2021. Luna loves to play with rocks on the beach by digging holes and burying the rocks. That day was like any other day but suddenly Luna wanted to get my attention and lunged towards me. That broke the necklace. I had a cross, my mothers wedding band that was gifted to me and my daughters name in 22ct gold in Sinhalese. I found the necklace but the other three items just vanished. This was at 5.50pm. Luna and I was looking for the lost items until 7.30pm and decided to call it a night. Before leaving, we marked the spot to come back the next day to look for the three lost items.

I came home and searched online for metal detector rentals to rent one for the next day and I was unable to find one. Then I randomly stumbled upon the website of Mr. Steve Smith “The Ring Finders”. I immediately called the number and Mr. Smith answered the phone. I explained my situation and he said that he would like to come out that night itself as the beach cleanup tractor can shift the items or the tide can wash the missing items Mr. Smith said that he will meet me in 30-45 minutes.

I explained this to my daughter who was skeptical and was concerned for my safety as I was going to meet this person that I connected online to look for the three missing pieces of jewelry. She even took my phone and shared my location with her incase this person who volunteered to help me was to harm me.

Mr. Smith met me at the Marina del Rey beach and we walked towards the location where the jewelry vanished. It was about 9.50pm. I directed Mr. Smith to the location and within a few minutes he found the Cross, my mothers wedding band and my daughters name in 22ct gold pendent. It was unbelievable to say the least. I asked Mr. Smith how much it would be for his services and he said that he would only take a donation. He did ask if it was okay for him to take a picture of me holding the three items that was found. Naturally I agreed as it was the least that I could do.

My faith in humanity was renewed that day. Good people who genuinely want to help people do exist. For anyone who goes to the beach, I highly recommend that you store the number of Mr. Steve Smith “The Ring Finders” in your phone. You never know when you might need his help. It’s as good as having AAA on the beach.

Thank you Mr. Steve Smith “The Ring Finders” from the bottom of my heart.
Guy from Marina del Rey
