About a month and a half ago I received a call from Abby. It seems she had lost her wedding ring on a farm where she grows flowers for market. She believed it happened when she was stung by a bee, began removing her clothes, and running through the flower patch. She and her husband had purchased a metal detector, and had searched for the ring to no avail. We arranged to meet the next day for a search.

When I got to the farm, I let Abby know I was there. She came right by, and took me out to the area she thought the loss most likely happened. When we got there, I was looking at 4 rows of flowers at least 200 feet long, with flowers at about 5 feet tall and having very stiff shafts; I knew I was in for a tough search. I would search the furrow with my coil, and then work around the base of the flowers with my pin pointer, working down each 200 foot row. I was VERY happy that there was very little metal in the ground which would have slowed me down considerably. After a couple of hours I had completed the search as best as I could with no ring. Abby then took me over to another area she been that day, I searched 3 more rows flowers at about 150 feet, no ring. We went and looked in another area, but no ring. We then talked and she said that the flowers would be cut in a month or so, and asked if I would be willing to come out again, and If it would be easier if they were cut down; I said I would be willing and it would be easier.

So this week Chris, Abby’s husband called to let me know the flowers had been cut, and wondered if I would want to come out and go over the areas again, so we arranged the next day to do the search. Chris and Abby met me and we went and searched 3 more new rows of flowers (I had not searched the last time) she had remembered going through the day she lost her ring; no ring. I then searched one of the previous areas finding some aluminum and pot metal; no ring. We then went over to the 200 foot rows where the bee had stung her, and searched very slow and deliberate. I found a good signal, dug in, and came up with a wad of tin foil. When Abby saw the shiny metal she came running over to only be disheartened finding out the find was tin foil. We were running out of possibilities. She showed me another spot near the flower rows, and then another, but no ring. She then asked if I would be willing to try one more spot she remembered being that day, and I told her she had me there, so she needed to take advantage of that, and YES I would search one more spot for her!

We went over to the other area which was a parking area near my second search of the day, and it was covered with a thick layer of wood chips. She gave me an estimated area to search, and I began a grid. Down, back, down, back, turn, and BAM, a real solid signal in the head phones. I put in the pin pointer, moving the chips around when it sounded, and I saw what looked like the edge of a coin with a smooth edge, nice and silvery. I reached in and picked out this beautiful ring. I tucked it in my palm, and looked up at Abby with a somewhat solemn expression, hands at my side, she started over probably thinking I was throwing in the towel for the search. When she got near I asked what her ring looked like, as I held out my open hand with her ring in it. Abby was immediately swarmed with a multitude of emotions all resulting from the joy she had at seeing her wedding ring again, after being without it for a couple of months. It was then Chris remembered there was a tractor in the area where the ring was found the day of the previous search, and yes I also remembered a tracked vehicle that was parked right on top of the ring the last time I was out there which did not allow us to search that area. We were fortunate it had been moved this time. Chris said they had the ring custom made in an old town in the UK where he was raised, and to tell it myself, the ring looked as if it had been made for Royalty; I might have been right about that, as she is his « queen ». What a wonderful day!

I received a call from a lady who wished to remain anonymous. She had lost her Mother’s ring in sand at the beach, and needed help in finding it. I let her know I would be on my way.

When I got to the beach she was waiting for me, and showed  me the small area of where she believed the ring should be, so I set up for a search. I started in the middle of the area, and after about 5 swings of my coil I got the sound I wanted, dug, and had her Mother’s Ring with her children’s names written in gold wire in my scoop. She was very thankful, and took my picture with the ring. A fulfilling afternoon!

Arvin called, and he was very unhappy, because he had lost the special ring his father had given him in the sand of the beach. He was shaking the sand out of his shoes when his heavy silver ring slipped off of his finger, and disappeared in the sand. I left immediately to do the search, as I could tell he was very disappointed about the loss.

I got to the beach and found Arvin. We went over what had happened, and I began my grid not finding even trash metal. Then I received a very high signal, so high in fact it was bordering on rusted iron. I dug, and in my scoop was a very heavy silver ring. I gave it to Arvin who was so happy to know that his dad’s gift was with him again!

I received a desperate late night call from Monica. She had been traveling down the coast on her way to the airport, and while stopping on the side of the road to apply sunscreen, she removed her soldered engagement and wedding rings, and laid them in her lap. She then got out of the car forgetting her rings altogether. She left, and was at the airport getting ready to head back to Colorado when she realized the loss, so she had no way to get back to look for the rings. I let her know that I would leave immediately to look for them.

I got to the spot she directed me to, and there was one vehicle in the area she had told me about. I was hoping the car tire was not covering the rings, or that maybe they were knocked out into the highway by another vehicle. I turned on my light and began looking around on the shoulder. As soon as I got in front of the car I spoke of earlier, I flashed the light around the bumper, and got the beautiful glimmer from Monica’s rings right under the front of the car. I took a picture with her rings, sent her a text of the recovery with my picture. She was so surprised and happy to know they had been recovered. We then arranged to get the rings back to her via USPS, and I am happy to report she has them back.

Alexis contacted me in the evening about the loss of her engagement ring in the sand of the beach. She was pushing her child on the swing, when the movement of her hand caused her ring to fly off of her hand, and was immediately lost in the sand. She and her husband searched to no avail for the token of his love for her. Knowing the area to be metal detected frequently, I told them that I would get there as soon as possible to do the search.

When I got there it was dark, but I could see Alexis and her family still searching with flashlights for the lost ring. The area was close to the playground equipment so I turned the sensitivity down on my detector so as to not be too influenced by the playground equipment, and began my grid. I worked one side of the swing set with no ring. I then worked under the swings, still no ring. I began working the other side of the set, and got a nice signal, dug, and had her ring in my scoop. She and her husband were so happy to see it again, and were able to leave for a late dinner, and getting the children to bed. Those smiles are precious!

Justin called and explained that he had lost his wedding ring two days before, but wanted to know if I would be able to help find it. I went over the loss with him on the phone with a barrage of questions to see if a search might still be warranted. It seemed as though the odds were against him, but we decided to do the search anyway. Later that day we were to meet at the spot and do the search.

When I got there Justin explained that the ring was big. We walked out towards the spot he believed the loss occurred. As we approached I could see where the county beach cleaning machines had gone through, and it was right in the area he had shown me. There was a small area near the slope that had not been touched by the machines, and mentioned to Justin that it would be great if that was where the ring had fallen. I began working the area between the slope, and where the machines had cleaned. One pass, and then on the second pass I received a strong signal, put my scoop in, and pulled up this massive ring. The ring was at least 3/4 inch wide, and so thick each edge was lined with black diamonds; at least a full ounce of platinum. I showed it to Justin, who in total disbelief ran over to see. It was his ring! All he wanted to do is give me a hug, as he thought it was gone forever, and now had it back. I was so happy to have been able to help him. Love that smile!

Diamond Stud Earring Lost in Grass at Newport Beach Park…Found and Joyfully Returned.

I was contacted by Andrew and Gayle about a lost earring. They had been at the park the day before, and in the process of removing her purse, the strap scraped Gayle’s ear removing her earring. She reached up to feel it and all she could feel was the backing that was still stuck to the back of her ear lobe. It was lost in the thick grass. We decided on a time to meet, and I was on my way.

When I got there they were waiting for me. They took me into the park, and explained that they had used a metal detector, but found that there was continual beeping from the ground, which proved to be frustrating. I got out the detector that I normally use for stud earrings. We put the other earring in a Ziplock bag, and placed it on the ground, where I checked it to make sure my detector would « see » it. It did, and the pin pointer would barely pick it up. I began, and immediately found that my detector was sounding off every 3 to 4 inches, it seemed as though the city placed metal screening below the sod to hold it in place, which wasn’t good. I then decided to use the other detector I brought with me which has a VDI readout, and again tested the earring. It was able to « see » it also, and I got a number to go on, eliminating all the other stuff that was setting the detectors off. It didn’t take long before I received a number close to what I was looking for, and put in the pin pointer. I moved it around, got a reading, and then there, there it was! I picked it up, and gave it to Andrew, who went to show his wife. She came back, and all I was getting was hugs from her and her mom. What an awesome time!

Charisse contacted me with a bit of desperation in her voice. She had just lost her diamond wedding ring in the sand, and to her surprise was completely unable to find it. She was going to be leaving the beach soon, and really needed some help. I was on my way!

When I got to the beach Charisse met me, and brought me over to where she believed the loss occurred. She showed me what happened, and where she believed the ring should be. Sometimes though, the ring ends up where you would least expect it to be, but not this time. A couple of swings with my detector, one scoop of sand, and back on Charisse’s finger was her beautiful wedding ring. A wonderful afternoon!

I received a call from Winter who had lost her ring at the beach. She had taken it off, and placed it in a pouch in her purse, but when she got back to the car to leave she found the ring was missing. This ring had been her grandmother’s wedding ring, so it had great sentimental value to her. I let her know that I would be on my way.

I got to the beach as soon as I was able, and found Winter who was with some of her family. We went over what she did, and what she believed had happened. She then mapped out an area of where she believed the loss could have occurred. I began at one side of the area, and worked my way over to the other side finding a few coins, and some trash metal, but no ring. I then began to expand out, and searched out at least 15-20 feet to each side to insure the ring did not flip into another area; no ring. At that point we decided to follow her path back to the car, and I asked her to be as precise as possible, because I have about 3 feet each side of me to search as I swing the detector, a six foot pathway total. Nothing on the pathway, then we came to a wall where she said she took her keys out of the purse, so I worked along the wall, got a good signal, and in the scoop was a fine gold ring with diamond an onyx. I looked at her and asked what does it look like, and she exclaimed, « Just like that! » She was so excited to have it back, having resigned to not finding it by the time we had finished searching the first area. Patient persistence, is what pays off in doing these searches, and we as Ring Finders don’t give up, even when things seem hopeless, we make sure every possible place is eliminated. Joy restored!

I got a call from Scott who had lost his wedding ring the previous day on the volley ball court at the beach, and wondered if I would be able to help him. He found my information on The Ring Finders site, and seemed comfortable with the group’s integrity. I let him know I could help, and we worked out a time to meet.

When I arrived, Scott and I found each other, and he took me over to the court where he believed the loss occurred. He explained how he had been sitting in a specific area, and how he believed the loss happened. I could see where he had been searching by the grid marks in the sand. He told me he had searched for at least an hour and a half, but was unable to find the ring. He had marked where he had been sitting, so that was where I began my search. It took me all of about 5 swings of the detector to find Scott’s ring right in front of where he had been sitting, and right in the middle of his grid. He was so happy to have his awesome ring back, and I was happy to be able to help!
