Metal Detector Expert, Bay Head NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder
Around noon, the beach was busy, with families scattered under umbrellas and kids playing in the surf. Kim had lost her ring earlier that morning, and despite hours of searching with her friends, it remained missing. The ring had slipped from her lap after she applied sunblock. They’d sifted through the sand with strainers, but no one had any luck.
That’s when she decided to call NJ Ring Finder.
When I arrived, Kim and her friends showed me the area where they’d been sitting. I set up my metal detector and began scanning the sand. The beach was noisy with distractions, but I worked methodically, moving in slow, deliberate rows. Kim stood nearby, nervously watching.
After a few minutes, the detector gave a strong, clear signal. I dug one scoop of sand without any luck, carefully scanning the spot again, I dug just a bit deeper, and sure enough, her precious ring was saved. It was nestled about 6” under the surface already, having likely fallen when she removed her cover up earlier.
I held it up, and Kim’s face lit up with relief. She slipped the ring back on and thanked me graciously . Another happy outcome, and I was glad to help.
I was on the road heading home from a recovery, when I saw a message come across from Alan. He lost a very sentimental gold charm, on the volleyball court the day before and was very interested to see if I would be able to locate it with my metal detector. He told me it was a private location, and with that I knew I had some time before I had to get to his recovery. I asked him to give me a call later on in the evening and I would see what other calls I had in that area and try to schedule them together. As it turns out, I was heading up to that area the next morning and told Alan I would do his recovery right after I finished the first one I had already scheduled . I got all the details I needed, as he was 95% sure the Charm was on the volleyball court. Once I got there I made a couple of paths along the one side of the court, when I got a sweet tone from my metal detector, and sure enough, it turned out to be his charm. I sent Alan a picture, which he could not believe that I was able to locate it. He was not in the area anymore, so he requested that I leave the charm with the homeowner. Alan requested to withhold his picture, and I fully understand , some people just don’t want to be on Facebook. Another recovery in the books .
What would 4 young men do after their Stockton State College track meet, that’s right, go to the beach to have some fun and cool down in the pristine Jersey Shore Ocean waters. Just prior to going into the water, Brendan removed his cherished cross and chain, and clasped it around the loop on his hat for safe keeping. After they got out of the water, it was placed back around his neck, and just a few moments later, his friend noticed the cross was missing. Luckily his friend Jackson had told his mom Brenda, who was very familiar with NJ Ring Finder stories, from some of the local pages. Brendan, Jackson, and Luke had searched for quite a while without any luck, and that’s when the call came in to me for HELP. I arrived on the Lavallette beach just a short while later, got all the details and searched the entire spot without any luck. After they assured me it must be right there, I turned my metal detectors sensitivity almost as high as it would go, and on the first pass I received a very faint but steady signal, which was in fact, Brendan’s beautiful cross. Another happy ending to a fantastic beach day.
