Lost… 3 Platinum Rings at Chesterman Beach Vancouver Island…Found

I received a call from the Concierge at the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino, Vancouver Island.  He asked if I could help search for 3 platinum rings that were tossed into the ocean at Chesterman Beach, beside their inn.

He tells me that 3 days past from the time the young lady from London England tossed her rings into the ocean.  He helped the couple by getting them a metal detector so they could search the next morning for the rings.

The coupled searched most of the day but had no luck in finding the rings.  They were leaving the next day to New York, they would leave Tofino broken hearted!

After the couple left to New York,  the Concierge (Damien) began to search the internet to see if he could locate someone to help find those 3 lost rings.

This is where I come into play,  he finds TheRingFinders.com online, he tells me the story of the lady and her lost rings. I know I have to act fast as the waves on that beach can get very big in the winter time and that could pound the rings deep into the sand, beyond the reach of a detector.

My wife who hasn’t picked up a detector since we were hunting in the UK (Spoiled) many years ago, wanted to come and help. This was great because she could help grid search and we could knock it out fast,  we needed to because of the tides.

Close to 4 hours and only a couple of  trash targets I got a good signal.  I dug down with my sand scoop and placed the lump of sand on the beach and with my headlight I could see the sparkle of diamonds!

I found the platinum diamond engagement ring! I yelled out to Beverley and she came running, we were so happy and we called Trish in New York to tell them the good news.

We regained our composure and Beverley started to do a corkscrew grid search where I found the ring and within minutes she got a signal 5 yards away and scooped up the platinum wedding band…

This was the tough one because it was so small and thin and it was already 4-5 inches down,  good find by Beverley!

Well we were excited and hopeful that we would find the 3rd ring and within 5 minutes and about 15 yards away I found the Aquamarine platinum ring…

We were so happy to find all 3 rings and excited to email the pictures of our discovery to Trish & James.  We got a call early the next morning and Trish & James were happy, happy!

Things happen in our lives that make us do funny things that we regret… That being said the rings have more memories now and the last memory was how good it felt to get them back!

We started back to Vancouver and as luck would have it we got stuck in traffic for hours due to snow storms and white outs.  We did make it to the ferry and dropped the rings off to Trish’s friends in West Vancouver who will be going to London in a weeks time…

Beverley and I had a great time on this search and the Hero in all of this , in our opinion,  is the Concierge at the Wickaninnish Inn (Damien) Because if he hadn’t found The Ring Finders Directory, the rings would be lost forever!

Lost Ring Minneapolis

Peter was playing a game of Pick up Football with his buddies at a Minneapolis park. After the game and some dinner, he noticed his Platinum wedding band was missing. He called me and said he wasn’t sure if it was lost at the game or after? We agreed that it most likely was lost during the game, so we began the search. No luck the first day as this was huge area, no luck the second day either. We thought we would give it one more try and 15 minutes into the 3rd day we found it!!

Lost Gold Ring at Third Beach, Stanley Park, Vancouver…Found

Well I’m off work for a while so this gives more time to work on The Ring Finders Directory and to get out and search the beaches of Vancouver.

I called a friend and we talked about doing a beach search but he was without a good PI beach detector.

He had a few detectors in mind that he wanted to buy and the Whites Dual Field was one of them, I have a couple of Whites water detectors so I let him try out my Whites Dual Field.

We hit English Bay Beach at around 8 pm, low tide was at 10:45 pm, this gave us time to work it as the tide was going out.

Well overall it was pretty slow and the bottle caps and pull tabs were winning, we’d been searching for a couple of hours and decided to hit another beach and I was leaning towards Kits Beach and my friend said what about Third Beach, Stanley Park?

So Third Beach it was, and off we went, when we got there the tide was out pretty far and we went our own ways in the dark.

I was finding the usual, pull tabs, bottle caps, nails and a little bit of change.

The garbage doesn’t bother much as I know that there’s always a chance of finding something good when your finding that much crap!

It was coming on to 1:30 am and I was getting ready to pull the plug, I saw my friend who was hunting in the distance, I moved up closer to the tide line and got a signal and dug up a nice gold ring!

You never know when or if the gold will find you…

That night I got lucky thanks to my friend who suggested Third Beach! The difference between The Ring Finders Service and just going out on a search for yourself is that when someone contacts me to find their ring, they know the approximant area the ring was lost.

Therefore I start my grid search until I find the ring, and in most cases I find the ring.

When you just go to the beach on your own time searching for lost items (gold rings) its like finding a needle in a haystack!

Unless you live in Hawaii where there are more gold rings lost then there are bottle caps…

Lost Gold Diamond Ring, Stanley Park, Vancouver

I was just sitting down to dinner when I got a phone call from a man who needed my help.

He tells me that he lost a very special ring that his girlfriend gave him 10 years ago.

He was in a wedding party and some time during the day and a few drinks his ring had slipped off his finger.

The problem with these kind of searches is that it’s a needle in a haystack.

The only places he thought the ring might be was at Stanley Park in Vancouver where they took photos or at the church outside where they had the wedding.

Dano had a good feeling and decided to start at Stanley Park, I met him and his girlfriend there to start the search. When I get a search like this I have them show me the area then I grid search until I find the ring or I feel comfortable that its not there and move to the next location.

10 minutes into the search I get a great signal and I kick the grass and see a gold ring looking back up at me!

I call Dano over to ask him a few questions about the location while I turn on my flip video camera… The rest is on the video below!

I have to say that it was our lucky day as a search like that could take many, many hours. I was just as happy as Dano!!

Heirloom ring found in yard in Longmont, Colorado

Recently I was contacted by Sheila, who lives in Florida. In February, she came to Colorado to visit her friend Barri from Longmont. While Sheila was here in Colorado, we received several inches of new snow. Since she is from Florida and snow is a rarity, she went outside to play around in the snow, throwing some snow balls and such. Apparently while gathering snow the ring fell off her pinky finger (it is a small ring). When they noticed later that evening that her ring was missing they searched in earnest for it but without success. After that several other people had visually looked for the ring but they also ended their searches without success.

As background information, Sheila’s mother passed away in 1998 and her father then kept her ring for the next 10 years until he passed away in 2008. There was a small battle between the 10 children of the couple as to who would get their mother’s wedding band. Well, Sheila was the one who ended up with the cherished ring.

When I arrived at the house, Barri and I looked over pictures and watched a couple short videos that were taken the day the ring was lost. In one of the videos you can clearly see the ring on her figure. There was a short series of photos that were taken moments later and the ring was missing in the last photo.  Thus we knew exactly when the ring was lost.

I put my detector together and began my search. Within 10 minutes of starting I had found the ring. We called Sheila to tell her the good news. To say she was happy would be a HUGE understatement. She was crying, almost uncontrollably, for longer than it took to find the ring.

Wedding band found in Denver’s City Park

The wedding band belonging to Ryan Evans had been lost for nearly 3 weeks. He and his wife had all but given up hope on finding his wedding ring when contact between Ryan and Jeff Lubbert took place. A time was quickly set for a meeting that same night at Denver’s City Park. Ryan described the events that led up to the loss of his ring and the how he discovered it was missing.

Ryan left to go for his evening jog leaving Jeff to his search. About 2 hours later Jeff had found a ring in the area that Ryan’s was lost. A few minutes later Ryan and his ring were reunited.

A quote from Ryan. “Excellent news! Got a call back from Jeff and he met me last night and nearly at the last minute just before he left he found the ring! WHAT A FEELING! My wife was ecstatic and I am getting it resized tomorrow. Jeff couldn’t be a better guy . . . ”

Yakima County Park Hunt/ESCHBAUGH PARK

Last weekend I searched an old county park. Usually I am pretty much the only one there, but this weekend was different. There was a group from the SCA, a Middle Ages and Renaissance bunch, who would have probably liked to have been born in the 17th century. I suspect that I was probably not supposed to be there, but it was the last day of their events and I tried to stay out of the way by searching a field they were not using. I was finding the usual clad coins when one of the folks from the group approached and was curious about what I was finding. Apparently the day before they had used this field for staged battles, complete with a portable castle. Sounds like it was full on swords and arrows kind of war.True to form, he was wearing some pretty interesting jewelry, in the form of claws, birds and the like. Turns out he was a maker of jewelry that they used. Most of the things he made were using old techniques. Pierced and hammered jewelry.

After meeting him, I wondered what I might find. I did search the area where they had the battle, but it was pretty clean. I am sure they take care not to lose items during battle. That evening, when they had packed up, I returned and searched through the camp sites and places I had noted they congregated. Those areas were so full of bottle caps, pull tabs, foil ect. that I just used my pinpoint function and searched for only surface targets. By the way, all the trash was not from them. This is a busy park in the summer and my detector was showing most of the trash was at least an inch down or at least not on the surface. For as large a group that was there, the did a great job with clean up.

As you can see, I found a few hammered rings and odd pieces of jewelry. I especially like the silver frog. I also found several heavy metal tent stakes. Nice to pick those up as the county mower would have loved hitting those.The money value of the rings were just pennies, but the workmanship and old world styles were pretty nice to see.

No ring hunts this month so far, but hoping to be sharp if someone loses that special something.

Hi all

I just want to tell you a story that happened to me in 2008

I live in South Wales U.K. and I travel all over the country searching all the sites I have permission to detect on with many great finds

This one occasion I was at a detecting rally in the south of England in a small Somerset village called Spaxton the villagers had organised a weekend event covering about 100 acres of historical land with some of the land dating back to the bronze age

It was a warm day and I had gone back to my van to have some lunch and chat and show off our finds we had found with plenty of roman and hammered coins I was looking forward to the rest of the afternoon looking for more artefacts when a couple approached me asking me if I could help them locate a ring that had been lost a few years before

They told me that they was helping their neighbour to clear the overgrown back yard
When the gentleman who was helping them was clearing the brambles and needed a pair of gloves to handle them

He spotted a pair of gloves lying on the floor and went over to pick them up and unknown to him the lady whose yard he was helping to clear had taken off a gold ring and placed it on top of the gloves

He went over to the gloves and grabbed them not knowing that the ring was there, and in a flash the ring was sailing through the air into the undergrowth soon the whole group were looking for this ring and in the days that followed, they used all type of methods to find the ring even renting a metal detector but, still, with no luck

The lady who owned the ring was upset at the loss, not because of the value of the ring but because of the story behind the ring. Her father of 82 had given her the ring and told the story that went with the ring and how precious it was to him and an important part of the family history
He had carried this ring with him thorough all the time he was in the nazi concentration camps and he managed to keep it through all the marches the forced labour and searches, and the greatest sorrow was then to loose it through a simple accident

The lady had resigned herself to the fact that the ring was lost

After they had told me the story behind the loss they asked if I would be willing to help them to find the ring, I was their last chance. He said that he has always felt guilt about loosing the ring even with reassurance from the owner that it was an accident he couldn’t forgive himself

I picked up all my detecting equipment and got into his car and headed out to the area that the ring was lost and I thought to myself “this could be a long day”

When I arrived at the property I was taken to the yard where the ring was lost and there we enacted the whole scenario and based on the details I went to the area where I thought the ring could have landed,

In the years that the ring was lost the undergrowth had reclaimed the area where they had searched and I was looking at a lot of brambles and long grass

Like most of the detectorists in the U.K. I use a cut down spade

So with this cut down spade I began to hack away at the brambles and grass, and after a lot of sweat and profanities I managed to clear a small area, I thought then to give myself a break I will get my detector and search the area I had cleared

I switched on my machine put on my headphones and started to detect the area I had cleared, and within a minute I got a signal in amongst the dead leaves and hacked down foliage, I then used my foot to clear the area where the signal came from and there amongst the rubbish was this small yellow ring,

The gentleman was watching me working with my detector, I said to him “there it is” and with a look of disbelief on his face he looked down and saw the ring, I think for a few moments he stared at the ground not believing what he was looking at

He then bent down and picked up the ring and the realisation that the ring was now safe in his hand brought a large smile to his face and I think I heard a sigh of relief, as if he had been holding his breath since he accidentally lost the ring

I gathered up all my detecting stuff and headed back to the car, and all the time we walked back to the car he was constantly thanking me over and over and asking me what he owes me I told him “I didn’t want anything as I was glad to find it”, and I thought to myself that I still had time to search for the rest of the afternoon

I never got to meet the lady who owned the ring as she was on vacation and wouldn’t be home for a few days and I only had one more day at the rally

The gentleman insisted I give him my address as when the lady returned from the vacation she might want to get in touch with me

A week passed and a letter arrived in the post, the owner of the ring was overjoyed that the ring was found and that she was sorry that she couldn’t thank me in person
But will be forever grateful

For me it was a rewarding experience, I had reunited the ring and owner and went on to find some more roman coins and a few nice ancient artefacts
