**** “Believe it or Not “  .. Taylor called me about a gold wedding lost while camping at O’Niell Park in Orange County, CA.  The location of the loss was the exact campsite that I found a motor cycle carburetor part two days before. Kind of spooky especially when I have never had an any searches at the park. ( there are 80 camp sites.)

The story goes, Taylor and his buddies were have large campfire that evening. They gathered some extra brush from the river bed to make a big fire. Sometime while the fire was still burning he discovered his gold wedding ring was missing.

After reviewing a video they had taken using their smart phones, it was on while throwing fuel in the fire. He came the next day with a metal detector and couldn’t find it.

He called me the next day. We met at the campsite, where I began to grid search the loose sand and wood chips. Taylor asked if he could help. I asked if he would use my beach sand scoop to remove the ashes from the metal lined fire pit. I had him spread the ashes far enough away from the metal fire pit so I could use my metal detector. He had told me that he had checked the ashes yesterday.. Guess where the ring was hiding ?? The ring showed up in the ashes. Taylor was a happy camper, telling me he might just leave it blacken wearing it like that for a while.

*** Alex and his brother had been planning a motorcycle road trip from San Francisco to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for years. Alex lives in San Francisco,  CA. and his brother lives in Ontario, Canada.

The time had come to fulfill their dreams. John, Alex’s brother shipped his classic Yamaha motorcycle to California where he and Alex started the first leg of their trip, 450 miles to O’Neil  Park campgrounds in Santa Margarita, Orange County, CA. The next morning John decided to do a cleaning of his carburetor which required dismantling it, he has done it many times over the years. Unfortunately he dropped a very small part into a dry river bed with lots of sand and baseball size rocks. This small brass part was not your easily replaced item as the motorcycle was 30+ years old and they were miles away from any services.

They had cellphones and were able to contact me. I met them at campsite C70. We walked over to an area 25 yards from their sleeping area. John showed me where he been sitting. It had been littered with shrubbery which he had removed. The rocks had big crevices  between  them with holes that could swallow a small brass washer like part (half the size of a dime). Fifteen to twenty minutes later I got a signal using my Garrett AT Pinpointer. The small brass part was between two rocks covers with small twigs. Trip saved, I took a photo of the part and John immediately began to install the carburetor on his motorcycle. They told , they would be leaving as soon as possible to be at the border of Mexico before days end.

I never know what the next call will be. This was unique and it could’ve ruined their dream trip. It was my pleasure to be a part of their adventure. I never know  what the next call will be..

Cartier Watch Lost in Sand Found and Returned by Newport Beach Ringfinder

*** I love it when a friend or relative calls me asking for help to find their friend’s lost sentimental item. It happens more than I ever expected. Christine’s mother called me asking for help to find her daughter’s Cartier watch that could be in the sand near a volleyball court. She told me that her daughter had been watching a volleyball game on the sand at Newport Beach, CA.

The loss happened three days before calling me and her daughter didn’t realize the ring was missing until later that evening. This watch was very sentimental to her and she was devastated. Considering the length of time since the loss and how many other places she had been before discovering the watch was lost, I told her mother I could grid search the beach area. At least, when I finish, I could say it was not there. Although, I did think there was a strong possibility the watch could be there, I did not want to give them false hope.

There was no need for them to meet me at the location, because they gave me good directions and provided me with a few photos. After an hour of grid searching, I found the watch. I called them and sent a photo of the watch. We met that afternoon to give it to her mother, who had not told Christine. She was going to surprise Christine that evening.

***My Most Resent Recovery: About a half hour before sunset I received a call from Joshua. He and Maria, his future bride were doing photo shoots with the bridal party at Little Corona Beach, located in the city of Corona Delmar. Maria tried to remove a small gold ring from a ring box when it slipped from her fingers landing in a mass of reef rocks and sand. This whole photo shoot was co-ordinated to happen as the sunset. They proceeded with the series of photos even thought the ring couldn’t be found.

One of the persons with them found my information online. After a short conversation. I told them i was only a couples miles from their location and would be there within 20-25 minutes. I needed at least one person to show me the general area. They had dinner reservations for the 10 people in the   bridal party and could not stay while I searched. “No Problem “ for me, once they showed me the general location. After finding the super small gold ring. I would drive to the restaurant to return it.

Lost Cellphone at the Wedge in Newport Beach, CA. .. Found and Returned

If you lose a piece of jewelry in the surf call Stan the Metal Detector Man .. It’s not lost forever. Call or Text 949-500-2136 .. Also you can email .. stan@metaldetectorman.com .. timing is important so call or text is preferred.

*** Zack was on the beach near the Wedge in Newport Beach, CA. He and his girlfriend took a late night walk, when his girl friend saw a shell she wanted him to pick out of the surf. He waited for the wave to recede and when he bent over to pick it up his cellphone dropped into the wet sand. The next wave totally covered the phone.

Zack called me after finding my contact information online. It was 11:30pm . I looked at the tide chart determining that the phone was lost at peak high tide. If the beach didn’t have much slope, there was a good chance to find it.

Cellphones can be difficult to find on some of our beaches, but I was willing to give this one a search. Even though Zack couldn’t meet me, I know that beach well and I left to search before the next higher came.

After an hour with no success I returned home.

The next morning I went back finding the phone within feet of my grid search that night. Night searches are successful but it is difficult to keep a straight line while trying to do a grid search.

The next thing was to get the phone back to Zack. He lives 40 miles away. We arranged for me to give it to his friend who worked a couple miles from my place.

***Jonathon and Vanessa had been at the the Huntington City Beach RV camping spot for the weekend. Vanessa took a walk on the beach to hunt for sea shells, while reaching down to pick up a shell at the tide line, her gold diamond wedding ring set slipped off her finger. Before she could grab the ring, a wave washed over the spot and the ring disappeared immediately..

i received a frantic call from Vanessa asking for help. we discussed the circumstances of her loss while looked at the tide chart. I told her we had a chance to find the ring as the tide receded. Even though the tide was rising I would be there soon to confirm the location, which is very important.

Jonathon was there to meet me. He had the area marked off with sticks and a couple soft drink cans. I wasn’t going to leave because the tide drops about one foot per hour this time of the year. I would just grid about a 20’x 40′ then leave to for a half hour to search for other treasures. About an  hour and a half later, BOOM! diamond ring set in the scoop. I walked a couple hundred yards across the sand to their camp site with the good news. Jonathon was there to get the surprise, he told me, he doubted the the rings could be found. We waited Vanessa to return from her trip to the store.

Jonathon and his friends were all present to watch her reaction when he held up the wedding ring set that she believed was lost forever.. a side note, while waiting for the tide to go down, I found two other rings and a hand full of clad coins.

** Jazi was at the beach late at night with his friend. After he walked off the beach he realized he must have dropped his car keys somewhere between where he was sitting on the beach and his parked car.

I received a call from Jazi about 2am in the morning. I knew he was desperate and was willing to go help him except he said he was at Torrey Pines State Beach. Too far of a drive for a search that hour of the night. The next morning he called me back explaining he was actually at Victory Beach which is in the city of Laguna Beach. It is only a 15 mile drive for me.

He was at work when I talked to him and wasn’t able to meet me at the location. To make things worse, his car was still at the location.

No problem for me to do a search at this beach without him to show me a possible area of the loss. He was able to explain where he had been. I know this beach very well so I was able to get there and find his keys.

Now, without a way to pick up his keys, I volunteered to bring the keys to his work place. The good news is later that day his  friend took him to pick up his car before it was towed or ticketed.

*** Hours after his marriage, Noah lost his gold wedding ring in the sand at Newport Beach, CA. He was able to contact me the next morning asking if I could help him. I was able to meet him on the beach soon after the call.

He was frustrated and embarrassed after spending hours on his honeymoon night crawling around in the sand trying to locate the ring. I tried to comfort him by telling him it’s common for people to lose new rings that haven’t been sized.

Nevertheless our possibilities were good to be able to find the ring because he called me promptly and was there to get me in the general area. Fifteen minutes later we had his special gold wedding ring recovered from the sand. Noah was now a happy newlywed and will remember this for a while.
