I received a text last night from Maura about a lost gold cross. I gave Maura a call to get some more information and was told that her mother had lost a gold cross that was a wedding gift from her father who had passed away recently.  Her mother had it on when she left the house to visit the cemetery but when they got there her sister realized the cross was gone when they went to untangle the chains. It was thought that the cross could be in the backyard, the car or the cemetery. The cemetery posed two problems – one it closed at 8 pm and it was getting late; two – I would need permission to go into the cemetery with a metal detector. We agreed to meet this morning at 8am and Maura was going to try to get in touch with the cemetery to explain the situation and get permission.  As a rule of thumb I never go near a cemetery with my metal detector but this was a different circumstance – however another twist was it is Memorial Day and there could be increased traffic and I did not want to appear disrespectful.

I met Maura, her mom and her brother-in-law at the house. I checked the car first with the scope, no dice. I went into the backyard and looked around the porch, again I came up empty. I searched around the side and front of the house just in case the cross was lost getting in or out of the car and nothing. Maura still had not been able to get in contact with the folks from the cemetery but we were going in hopes of maybe finding someone there.

We pulled into the cemetery and low and behold they were cutting the grass…well this was good…and bad. We could hopefully get permission but did they cut where I needed to look?!? By the time we parked and got out of the cars the cemetery worker was zooming away on his mower. Maura went to try and talk to him and I followed her mother up a brick pathway toward the grave so I could have a look around. I was a few feet behind her mother intently looking around when all of a sudden…in the middle of the path…was the cross! Maura’s mother turned around and could not believe I had found it just laying there. She was so happy and relieved. Maura heard the commotion and came back over to find out the cross was recovered. They two of them were both so happy and relieved to have it back. Maura was in amazement as to how it was there on the path, she said that they had been up and down there several times looking and did not see it. Her mother had said that she had been praying to St. Anthony and I had been as well. Then Maura pointed out that the cross was found next to the grave of another person who was special to them. Coincidence, I think not, I believe there was some divine intervention and maybe multiple layers of it!! It was a pleasure to be able to locate the cross and return it and as always – great to meet kind and generous people.

Last week I received an early morning text « Good morning, Remember me. You found my wedding ring two yrs ago ». I had to sheepishly respond that I was sure I did but that I do not save customers in my phone. He told me it was Blaize and I immediately remembered him – the lawn king!  I told him I did remember and  I was hoping it was just a nostalgic text but was guessing probably not. He responded – « I need your service again ». We talked on the phone and he had lost his wedding ring out working again. I had previously found his ring in near record time and I cautioned him that there was no guarantee I could replicate that, especially after he told me he lost it nearly a week ago at one of his jobs.  He did say he had a pretty good idea as to which job he lost it at and where.

So I met up with Blaize later that afternoon. We took a long walk back a large gravel driveway and then a turn; this was BIG yard. He told me he thought he must have lost it cleaning out the deck chute on the rider. He gave me an area and said I think it is here or maybe in that big clump of bushes or maybe in the clipping piles. I asked for his best guess…he said start in the bushes. So I walked over and started into the high grass and bushes and suddenly I hit a solid sound. I looked down and low and behold there it was. After looking at the area I had to search and the other uncertainties I was just as surprised as Blaize was elated. It was a heck of a stroke of luck to find it so quickly. We talked for a few minutes when someone stopped to request his services and I took off to check out a lead he gave me on a spot to metal detect. It was nice to see Blaize again; he is great to talk with and generous guy. Also just like the last time – the yard he was working on looked great so if your looking for a lawn service locally look up Blaizin Bladez Lawn Care!

I received a text from Arthur that he had lost his grandfather’s ring in his neighbor’s backyard. In talking to Arthur it was on a tray that he dumped, forgetting it was on there. He heard it hit the chain link fence separating the yards and spent hours in vain looking, unable to find it. The ring was very special (as most are) with the story of this one having belonged to his grandfather who served in World War II and then continued serving in the NYPD. The ring was from his grandfather’s time in the NYPD.

I arrived at the house and met Arthur who showed me the search area. Pretty standard, however, the chain link fence of course could pose a challenge. My thought was it was directly under the fence and would be very difficult to locate. I searched with my large coil first, then switched to my smaller one to get closer to the fence. It took me about an hour, but I located the ring a short distance from fence next to a large pine tree. The pine needles provided the perfect hiding place.

Arthur was elated to have his ring back as his face lit up with a great big smile. The ring was a large gold ring and was inscribed Captain, a tribute to the rank of Arthur’s Grandfather at the time of his retirement I would assume. There was a little bit of added pressure trying to find and return this hero’s ring to his grandson and I am glad to have been able to do so. It is always a blessing to meet kind and generous people like Arthur and a pleasure to have been able to find and return his ring!!

Lost Wedding Band – FOUND in Greensburg, PA area near Pittsburgh #10!

I received a call from Blaize that he lost his wedding band while he was working. Blaize has a lawn care business and was emptying a bagger when his ring fell off. Luckily it was in a private location as I was out of town and needed a few days to assist him.

Upon arrival Blaize showed me where he had lost the ring. He had rented a metal detector and had a co-worker help him search, but they could not locate it. As Blaize was completing the search contract I hurried to get started, he had a meeting and I did not want to hold him up. I fired up the old Garrett AT PRO with my large coil, ground balanced and BOOM first couple of swings it was right there. I quickly uncovered the ring from under the grass and turned around as Blaise was just walking down through the yard, a few moments more and I could have saved him the walk.

Blaise was very grateful and generous. While it was where he had dumped the clippings it was not where he thought it would be in the pile. This was one of my fastest if not the fastest recovery and it got me up to double digits (10) as well! It was a pleasure to meet Blaise and help him out…and by the way…the yard I was looking in looked great and he is a nice guy so look him up…Blaizin Bladez Lawn Care!

– Never found and gave back a ring that I did not receive a smile in return!

I received a text from Ryan that he had lost a gold ring while working on a vehicle in his front yard about a month ago. It took a little coordination because it was a good distance away, but we made arrangements and within a few days I was there and ready to go. It took me between and hour and an hour and a half, but in the tall grass on the way to the mailbox I found it! Ryan was very grateful and happy to have the ring back. Like all the jewelry we find it had its own special story and I was happy to be able to help.

I received a text from Bob asking me if I would be willing to look for his lost wedding band in the Pittsburgh area. We spoke briefly on the phone to work out the details and agreed on today. The ring was believed to have been lost while gardening and was thought to be in one of his flower beds or in the woods where he dumps his clipping. Bob explained to me that the ring was more than just a wedding band, but an heirloom with significant meaning.

Of course as I set out to meet Bob I was greeted by the first snow of the year, albeit just some flurries with a dusting here or there along the way. However, by the time I reached Bob’s house the snow had stopped and the sky was turning blue, I was hoping it was a good omen for my search. The thought had crossed my mind while on my way to send Bob a text and tell him we would have to wait for better weather as I am a « fair weather » ring finder when I was a few minutes from his house, but then my better judgement told me to remember – « you are a ring finder, not a comedian » so I held off.

Bob was warm and welcoming when I met him and showed me the area to be searched. Despite the cold weather he wanted to be outside to accompany me while I searched. I checked the front flower gardens and not really so much as a peep on my machine. I asked Bob to show me where he dumped his clipping and he took me back to the edge of the woods. My thought was a quick check there before I started searching the yard between the flower beds and the woods. No sooner did I start searching the clippings and my AT Pro hit the sweet spot. I reached down into the clippings and pulled out the gold wedding band with a channel of diamonds. Bob checked his watch, I had been there less than a half hour total.

As I handed the ring over to Bob I could see all the emotions his face – thankfulness, relief, happiness…  Bob was kind enough to share the story of his ring with me. It is not my story to retell, but I will say that it is one that touched the heart, probably similar in many ways to some of the stories that other ring finders have heard as well, and it underlines the importance of what we do. It was a great pleasure to meet Bob today and an even greater one to return his heirloom wedding band!

Lost Diamond Ring in Apollo, PA – Found!

  • from Indiana (Pennsylvania, United States)

Brian Carpenter – Ring Recovery Specialist, Pittsburgh, PA and Indiana, PA…Lost your ring?…Metal Detecting Specialist – Call/Text anytime 814-244-2300.

I received a call from a gentleman who wanted to inquire if I could help find his wife’s diamond ring that was believed to be lost in the side yard at their house. I arrived at the house and was shown the area to search. It was believed that the ring had fallen off of her finger while playing ball with the children in the yard. I was feeling quite confident as I normally do at the beginning of most of my searches, however once I turned on my machine and ground balanced there was an abnormally high amount of interference, so much so that it began to make me nervous as I have never encountered this much chatter before. I started to change my settings and had to turn the sensitivity down to the the lowest level to cut out all the interference, not how I normally search for sure. I started my grid search of the area and just after I started my second grid area I found the white gold diamond ring about an hour in to my search!

When I knocked on the door I showed Brittany’s husband the ring and asked him if he would like to give it back. He told me I could have the honor of returning it to Brittany. Then the moment every « ring finder » cherishes the BIG smile and the excitement that comes with returning that which was lost.
