Beautiful 14K Rose Gold Ring Lost, Found in Berryville, VA.

I received a call from Brandon on Thursday asking if I could help him find his 14K Rose Gold wedding band which was lost on his property in Berryville, Virginia. Brandon stated he bought a metal detector and attempted to locate the ring himself, even searching at night with a flash light in hand, but no luck.  As with most detectorists we know you sometimes have to get through a lot of trash in order to find the treasure and the trash was what Brandon was finding unfortunately. After getting a few details on when it was lost and approximate area on the property where he believed it may be located we arranged for me to come out on Friday morning. Since he was not going to be able to be there to meet me I had to initiate the search on what details I had and the pictures he sent me to come up with a search strategy.

I started my search to the left of his home and closer to the wood line which is where he believed it would be located. After about 90 minutes and a pound of debris, other than the woods itself, I felt I covered the backyard area pretty well. Before I took on the search of the large area of bushy woods I though I’d give the grassy area closer to the house and attach shed a quick grid search.

…after about 30 minutes….there she was, one of the prettiest colors of rose gold I’ve seen shining brightly and just waiting to get backs to it’s owner. I contacted Brandon via a text by sending him a photo of his ring, he was ecstatic at knowing his ring was found and would soon be back on his finger.

Glad I could reunite you with your ring Brandon….

Lost White Gold Engagement Ring in Shenandoah River, Found Charles Town West Virginia

This call originally started off with a call from the customer’s best friend Laura. After the initial call with Laura I was not able to reach the customer back and found that she had contacted another specialist, Brian Rudolph. After an initial search Brian had referred the customer back to me and I arranged to meet the customer, Lacie, this past Sunday at Moulton Park in West Virginia along the Shenandoah River. Before arranging to go to the site I contacted a friend of mine, Rob Ellis, who is also a recovery specialist on theRingFinders network to see if he’d like to join me as I didn’t know how involved this water search was going to be. Rob is a great underwater gridding specialist and I knew I could use his help on this one.

The customer, Lacie had been wearing her late husband’s grandmother’s white gold engagement ring, so the monumental importance of locating and returning this ring to Lacie was not lost to Rob and I, we had to find this ring.

On Sunday Rob and I arrived early at Moulton Park along the Shenandoah River and met the customer to gather more details of the lost ring. Lacie stated she had been in the water approximately 20-30 yards from the bank and was heading into towards the shoreline, as she got closer she got caught up on some underwater tree debris and tripped enough to where when she was trying to get her balance the ring slid off her finger, she could actually see the ring going down in the water and attempted to grab it while it sank, but no luck. This would have been about 10-20 feet from the shoreline, a small area so Rob and I suspected we should be able to locate it easily. Well….nothing is ever as easy as you think it’s going to be.

Originally we thought this might be a search that required dive gear so we both brought everything needed for a longer dive time, 2 tanks each. But since the water level was low we only had to search in 2-3′ of water level, snorkeling was the best option in this case. The river was not fast moving, almost no current at all since there was no recent rainfall. As soon as we entered the water you sank into the deep mud, in some areas up to 1-2 feet thick. Rob and I spent 7 hours on Sunday, pulled approx. 20-25 lbs of debris out of a 10′ x 10′ area of the search, so much trash!! Rob did an exhaustive solid circular grid within the area we believed Lacie and dropped the ring. But alas, no ring located on this trip.

I followed up with another short search the next day for about 2.5 hours, focusing again within the target area the customer believed she had lost the ring and while pulling out more trash than I care to think about…still no luck with locating the ring, very frustrating!

There was only going to be a day or so before the area was hit with some significant thunderstorms so I wanted to give it one more try before the week was out and the river became too challenging with the high waters. Rob was also planning on meeting me for this final trip of the week. I unloaded my gear, donned the wetsuit and gloves, turned on the Equinox 800 detector and entered the water to the left side of an old tree hugging the river bank, as the detector was on already I immediately started a sweep right at the bank’s edge………within 60 seconds of being in the water I got a hit within 1-2 feet from the bank, more trash??!! Or so I thought…I reached down with the pinpointer, located a target then as I have done 100 times already I slowly pulled up a large fist full of mud…the pinpointer was still pinging away at whatever was in my palm. As I slowly cleared away the mud, and in the bright morning sunshine, arose this sparkling white gold colored engagement ring, and I knew this was the ring Lacie had lost. Moral, never give up and always expect that a lost object may not be where you think it should be. How the ring went from 10-15 yards away to 1-2′ from the bank we’ll never know.

I sent Lacie a photo of the ring from my phone and immediately got a response, OMG!! Within 5 minutes Lacie was at the site to greet me and see her ring returned. She was so joyfully excited with tears running down her face and shaking almost uncontrollably. Lacie was so ecstatic to have this memory back in her possession, it meant to so much to her. This is theRingFinders goal, to bring happiness and joy with a special object returned!

Lost Gold Cross Pendant w/Birthstones, Found in Bristow, Virginia

I received a text from a couple, John and Amy in Bristow, Virginia. Amy had been doing some gardening in the back yard and as she walked around the side of the house she realized her chain was dangling from her neck, but the gold cross charm was missing. After searching for hours they placed a notice on their community website asking if anyone had the ability to assist. One of the neighbors suggested they reach out to theRingFinders.

I’m about 45 minutes from their location so I was able to head early after work the next day to do a recovery search with the hopes of finding it quickly as the area was not too large. Once I arrived Amy gave me the rundown of what she was doing and where she walked, so  initially conducted a quick search in the grassy area where she realized the charm was gone. No hits in this area so I decided to go right to the garden bed in the hopes it fell into the mulch/soil she was seeding for green beans and carrots. As I was working the bed, Amy was literally a foot and a half away from me and shouted, « I found it!! While watching me she happen to look down near her feet and there it was just laying in the grass. Great Karma, lucky find and glad to see her smile so big. Amy’s had the cross for 20 years and it holds the birthstones of each of her children, a very treasured item to say the least.

Lost Wedding Band in Bristow Virginia Yard, Found in Bushes

I received a text message early Saturday morning from Todd in Bristow, Virginia requesting my assistance in locating his yellow gold wedding band which was lost somewhere in his backyard the night before. Todd has been enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve been having these past few days here on the East coast; spending time cleaning up the yard, doing some trimming of the bushes and vines, doing a general cleanup and hanging around his hammock. At some point during the evening he realized his ring was no longer on his finger, like many men including myself we tend to ‘feel’ the ring constantly as a nature of habit and that’s when he noticed it was gone. He spent several hours at night looking for the ring, unfortunately with no luck. As many customer tend to do he almost was tempted to purchase a metal detector himself, I’m glad he called me instead! Most if not all of the customers I’ve met who have purchased a lower end detector were not successful in finding their treasure as the unit may not have been sufficient to isolate the ring from many other hits, and new customers tend to not have the experience to fully utilize the detector’s features.

I arrived at Todd’s beautiful home in the early part of the afternoon, then after a brief description of his ‘yard’ activities I initially started a quick sweep to see if I could get a hit. With the quick sweep not showing any significant results I started a more detailed grid of different sections of the yard, still no ring. The yard was not significantly large, but was broken up into nice little sectional areas; hammock area, birdbath, stone walk, bush areas. After hitting most areas several times I started to focus on the bush areas next t the fence which also had heavy vines growing on them. I borrowed a rake and cleaned most of the leaves and debris from the bush bedding area and still after a few grid searches no good hits.

I was then laying on the ground running the detectors further in to reach past the heavier bushes that’s when there was something sparking as bright as the ring from Lord of Rings, there was Todd’s beautiful golden wedding band. Even with a detector it would have been difficult to get a hit on this one as it was positioned between two closely nestled bushes. Sometimes you just have to get dirty! Todd was so excited to see his ring back and immediately placed in on his finger, hopefully never to come off again.

Lost Gold Engagement Ring, Found in Snow in Bluemont, Virginia

I received a call from Katlyn on Monday evening stating she had lost her engagement ring while out building snowmen and sledding in her back yard. Her husband, Tony, was going to use a borrowed detector and some help from a friend to see if they could recover the ring that night and if  he didn’t have any luck would ask me come out the next day. Unfortunately, they did not have any luck finding Katlyn’s ring so we arranged for me to come out the next day.

Upon arriving at Katlyn and Tony’s home I noticed the large area to the left of the property where I presumed the ring had been lost, it was quite large, but I wasn’t daunted by the challenge for this recovery. Tony gave me a quick rundown of the activities and shortly I went to work. I setup a flag grid pattern across an approximate 50 yard by 50 yard area then started to conduct a slow search within each grind pattern. I extended my searches slightly on each grid section just to get some additional ground covered, but after almost two hours no luck in finding the ring; lots of junk metal and shell casings. So at this point I initiated a search beyond the first major grid section to see if the ring had possibly been thrown in another area. After about another 15 minutes I picked up a strong hit at the top of the grid and after moving a little snow there shining just under the surface in the snow was Katlyn’s beautiful engagement ring.

As I turned towards the house Katlyn was at the back door watching and I held the ring up high as my sign it was found. She immediately opened the door and with excitement in her voice yelled across the field, « You found it!?? » Katlyn was just overwhelmed with emotion that she was reunited with her recently received engagement ring (Tony gave it to her in July of this year) and with tears of joy and a beautiful smile she gave me the biggest hug of gratitude.

It’s always these special moments that make our work so worthwhile!  Tony and Katlyn are a wonderful young couple and I’m just honored they called me and I was able to ensure their Holiday season was one to remember.

Lost Keys in Snow, Found in Leesburg Virginia

We had a snowstorm last night on the East Coast with Leesburg Virginia only getting a few inches and then a heavy coating of ice. The next day, while out at dinner with my son Andrew I received a frantic call from Dave about a set of keys he lost in the snow. The keys were for a rental car and after talking to the rental dealer the cost to have the car towed and the key replaced would have run about $400-500, crazy amount of money!! Dave had done a quick search and found my link via Google to TheRingFinders and gave me a call. Since I could tell the need was urgent and even though the sun was getting ready to go down in about an hour I told Dave I’d be over in about 30 minutes. I asked my son if he wanted to tag along and he said sure so gathered up the gear and headed to Dave’s place.
The property and home are from the 1860’s with the house having a log cabin look to it. After a brief introduction and description of where he believed he lost the ring between his front door and the car I started my detecting. As an older propriety there were a lot of hits but nothing quite at the surface so I continued my search. I had asked Andrew to go the truck for something and within a minute he yells over, « I found the keys! » On the far side of the rental vehicle and just buried under the snow Andrew had noticed just the tip of a key sticking out. Great quick recovery with the recognition and reward going to my son Andrew, Great job buddy! Dave was happy to have the keys returned and saving an evening of cost and frustration.

Lost Platinum Diamond/Tanzanite Ring, Found in Crozet (Charlottesville), Virginia

I received a call early this morning from Georgia in southern Virginia and she asked if I could help her. I asked her the typical few questions to get an idea of location and scope of work and found that she was approx. 2.5 hours from my location being located in Charlottesville VA. Georgia was worried that the drive was too long for me, but I put her mind at ease stating « this is what we do », we’ll travel as far as we need to in order to recover a lost item.

Georgia had lost her ring the day before while outside on her property planting flowers, pulling weeds and doing a general clean-up of the yard. I told her I would be there in several hours and hopped into the truck. Upon arriving at her location I was so immersed in the scenic view from her propriety I almost would have forgotten why I was there, simply a gorgeous view of the Blue Ridge Mountains from her back deck. I was greeted by Georgia upon my arrival and we immediately went to the areas where she thought she may have lost the ring; in the grassy area leading towards the woods where she had been tossing yard waste and then back along the same path towards the back of the house and into a raised garden bed.

I started working in the brush pile first to see if she had maybe lost it while tossing the yard waste into the woods. After a brief search at the surface level I decided I would come back to this area and do a more in depth and expanded search…so we headed towards the back of the house and Georgia explained what she had been doing with planting the flowers and that she had even taken them back out to try to find her ring. I started by search with my Minelab Equinox 800 and immediately started to receive a pulsating rhythm in the tone (found out later there was an electric dog fence in the back-yard which what probably caused the pulsating). I determined I would still be able to hit the desired targets and started the search. I conducted a brief scan in the grass before stepping up into the raised garden bed. A few scans around the flowers and the immediate vicinity I did not locate the ring….then only several feet away and on the surface in the mulch there was Georgia’s beautiful Snowflake Platinum ring shining in the sunlight like a beacon.

Georgia was so excited that I had found her ring so quickly and couldn’t wait to put it back on her finger. I asked if possibly the ring was too large and if that’s why it fell off, but actually she stated for the yard work she had placed it on the opposite hand which her finger on that hand may be a little smaller and made it easier to come off. A lesson not soon lost 🙂

Georgia was simply charming and wonderful to talk to, I was so pleased to be able to return her ring to her today.

Lost Gold/Titanium Wedding Ring Found in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia Garden

It’s always such a pleasure to be able to bring joy to someone during the Holidays and this is just one of those stories. I received a call from Scott who had lost his treasured wedding band while out in his garden during the Thanksgiving weekend. Scott was setting up some wire fencing and moving leaves around and realized he had lost his wedding ring. He thought he felt it come off and looked in the area where he believed the ring should be, but unfortunately he couldn’t locate the ring. While continuing to look at little longer Scott recalled seeing an article about a ring finder (theringfinders) who had recovered a lost piece of jewelry for an actor. He located theRingFinders website and subsequently gave me a call. We made arrangements for me to meet up with him the next day.

Scott lives in the dense hills south of Harpers Ferry and Charles Town West Virginia. The trip was a beautiful 45 minute drive through some very scenic West Virginia country and at one point even my GPS was so confused I had to call Scott to guide me through the rest of the trip to get to his home.

Upon arriving I met with Scott and his wife, who showed me the garden area to the right of the house where he’d been working the day before. We chatted for a few minutes and then I got to work. There was some fencing pretty close together in the tight garden as well as several bushes which limited my ability to use the standard detector as I had limited swing. I soon realized I was going to have to do this on my knees with my Garrett detector probe if I was going to have any chance of finding the ring. After moving some of the surface leaves away I started by searching across several areas, inside the bushes near the trunks, across a few small garden step areas…and within just a few moments the probe started buzzing and chiming and I knew that strong sound!! Scott’s ring was hidden just under a large pile of leaves right where he thought he had lost it.

I excitedly sent Scott a text with the picture of his ring and immediately his wife was out on the back upper deck asking « You found it!!? » …at which I held the ring in the air!!

It would have been a disappointing memory to have lost your wedding ring during the Thanksgiving holiday and never to have found it. It was great pleasure to recovery Scott’s ring for him during this special Holiday and to see the happiness and smiles it brought to both him and his wife. I received an email from Kaitlyn this week about a ring lost earlier this summer. She explained her husband had been doing some gardening on their property and was wearing his platinum wedding ring at the time.  After completing his days work he realized his ring was missing. Kaitlyn and her husband were frantic and even borrowed a friend’s metal detector in an attempt to locate the ring, unfortunately no luck. As the days went on they were somewhat resolved that the ring was gone, however after seeing the TheRingFinders website Kaitlyn decided to reach out to me. I arrived on Friday around 1:00 PM and searched in the areas of the large double wide garden where they believed the ring to be. After a few quick grids with no luck I moved the search quickly up the pathway to the house and around the garage, still no luck. I went back down to the garden area and decided to expand my search in towards the woods and in there a pile of dirt there she was!! Kaitlyn was so excited to see her husband’s ring again and plans on giving it back to him for their wedding anniversary next month.

Lost White Gold Wedding Ring, Found on Leesburg Virginia Farm Ranch

I received a call on August 24th from a gentleman named Lyle in Loudoun County Virginia in the Leesburg area. I could tell he was very upset and asked if I was with theringfinders and if I could help him locate his wedding ring he realized he just lost. I received a few more brief details and within an hour was at his location. At first I was amazed at the sheer size of the ranch spread with about 40 Black Angus cattle (lots of calves) wandering the fields everywhere, then I thought about the search size, huge!!

I met Lyle at the main field and he commenced to explaining that he had been working the fields the day before, pulling large trees for burning from various locations across the spread including an 8 foot wide stream adjacent to the fields. As we continued to talk the search area became even larger as he indicated he’d driven the tracker down a approx. 300 yard gravel path towards the main gate and also had been around the upper house (built in the 1700s) and bull pen area, again a huge amount of property to cover. This by far would be the largest site I’ve searched for a recovery, but I was ready for the challenge.

On the first day we did some initial gridding and searching, Lyle even assisted with another detector, unfortunately no luck, but we were both very optimistic we’d find it and I planned on being back the next day. I made another couple of trips for several hours each time, gridding each section out to approx 100 yards at a time with red flags. No luck on these trips and so on one of the trips I decided to keep the flags in place so I knew where I had worked the previous day. I received a text that evening that Lyle and his daughter had to quickly remove the flags after he caught the cows eating them. On a subsequent trip I conducted a circuit around the house again and then the bullpen, then I retraced my steps with the previous grids and after no luck I decided to put on my wetsuit and booties to hit the stream, not too deep, very muddy (cows were usually always in the way here) but only about 8 feet wide and probably 40-50 yards long, again no luck.

So I’ll skip the final day. Sept 4. I was doing a slight retrace of the very original area and had a hit that was deeper that something I was looking for but for some reason I decided to dig it. After several minutes I saw a horseshoe and noted that it was facing up, facing up is good luck for those who believe! I pulled out the horseshoe, said a quick prayer that maybe today would be the day to return Lyle’s wedding ring to him. I moved slightly to the left of the main search field and in front of the large fire pit area and searched for about 15 minutes, Voila!! About 20 yards from the fire pit a strong hit and there it was lying under a thicket of grass. I called Lyle and he was so startled he said he had goose bumps and was immediately on his way back to the ranch.

A lot of work on this one but a fun time, the cows kept a constant watch on me and even had a group of 30 beagle hounds great me one day as they were being driven by four riders on horses. A great guy and customer reunited with a very sentimental ring, Thanks for calling me Lyle!!
