Backyard Gold… Lost Engagement Ring in Coquitlam BC

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Today I received a call from a young lady who lost her engagement ring in her backyard two weeks ago. After reading her email then talking to her on the phone I realized I knew this person! She works in the film industry and we haven’t talk for very long time so it was nice to connect and help her find her lost wedding ring.

When I arrived I was promptly greeted and shown the area where she believed the ring was lost.  I asked if she could tell me what the ring meant to her and what the story was that made the ring so special.

She told me that her fiancé proposed to her in Mexico and gave her this temporary ring until they got home where she could have one designed.

Even though she had a beautiful ring designed, one that she wears now, I could tell that the ring she had lost meant a lot to her as it was the ring he proposed to her with.

I set up my equipment and started to go to work, unfortunately her property has powerlines very close to the search area. Thankfully with the new modern technology I was able to cancel out most of the interference from above and zero in on her lost ring.

This search took me 15 minutes, I was very happy to get the signal and find her lost engagement ring.

Found…100 Year Old Prescription Glasses

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)
100 Years Old

100 Years Old

Most of the time I’d get called out to search for a lost ring, but on this day ,on my own time, I went to English Bay Beach just after the Polar Bear Swim to search the low tide…January 1, 2013.

On this nice but cold evening when the tide went out it exposed many pairs of prescription glasses, in total 15 pairs were found that evening. One in particular was a pair of spectacles that I found buried completely in the sand. Because of the amount of  prescription glasses that were being found I took my time digging this signal, as I reached into the hole I pulled out  a cool looking pair of spectacles. I have to say my first thought was  »Harry Potter »… I carefully wrapped it up in a cloth and put it in a safe pocket and resume my hunting.

When I got home that evening I posted on craigslist that I found prescription glasses along with a few other things I found at the Polar Bear Swim at English Bay Beach. I only received one reply from someone asking about a pair of Ray-Ban glasses (Aviators) but I did not find those, it took almost 3 weeks before I got a reply from a young man asking if I found a pair spectacles.

I took a picture with my iPhone and sent him the photo of the glasses and I received an email immediately… Those are the ones!!!

I have to admit it’s the first time I experienced how much it meant to to that person to have their prescription glasses found. I didn’t realize what the story was that came with the glasses until I talk with him. You see these were not ordinary prescription glasses, these glasses were from his great grandfather, over 100 years old! How can you ever replace a family heirloom like that? That’s why I love what I do! I love helping people and given them a second chance to find what they thought was lost forever!

Here’s what he put on The Ring Finders Face Book page…

« Thanks to Chris Turner and The Ring Finders recovered my Norwegian great grandfathers old pair of glasses that I lost during this years Polar Bear Swim in Vancouver, BC. Chris found them the same day and posted them under the lost and found section on Craigslist. And although it took me 20 days to even think that someone would be kind enough to put it on Craigslist, Chris convinced me that there still is some good in this world. These 100 year old glasses gets to continue their story and continue being a family heirloom.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! »

Metal Detecting for a Lost Gold Wedding Band in Granville Island, Vancouver

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I got a call 1 month ago in regards to a lost ring but I couldn’t help the young lady due to my wife and I just arrived in Florida for the month. I sent her the contact number of a member not far from me and he took a look for it but didn’t find the ring.

It’s a game of inches and the ring can easily be missed if you don’t think outside the box…You have to ask a lot of questions and then the detective work starts…You rarely find the lost item where the person thinks it will be…Because I passed the call over to another member I just did a follow up and offered my service to make sure the ring wasn’t missed and the young lady agreed to let me come out and do a search. I have close to 40 years of experience and thought it couldn’t hurt to take a look…She told me that she was having a jeweller make another one for her but she sure would love to have the original back as it was the one that had the sentimental value attached to it…

After showing me the area that the ring was lost in Jody went home to put her son down for a nap. It was only a minute after she left for home that I had found her ring…Talk about luck! Some searches you seem to walk right to the lost item…

The Smile is why I love my job! Thanks for reading my blog and Happy Holidays!

Metal Detecting Grouse Mountain Ski Resort for a lost Gold Wedding Band…Found

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Friday afternoon I got a call from a young man who was visiting from Columbia, he told me he lost his gold wedding band while he and his wife were up at Grouse Mountain Ski Resort checking out the snow that has arrived early this year.

I was at work when he called and I know he was hoping I could come out that afternoon to help find his wedding band but I couldn’t get to him till the next day. We set a time to meet (8:45am) for Saturday and off we went to the top of the mountain.

When we got up there he showed me the area were the ring was lost in the snow,  it wasn’t that deep. However there was lots of nails all around and that makes it a bit of a tough search! I just eliminated the possibilities and in less then 30 minutes in about 5 inches of snow I found his gold wedding band.

I love my job! As soon as I showed him the ring I could tell that they both were so happy! When I handed it to him he kissed his wife!

It was nice meeting you both today! Thank you for the kind reward! And I hope you enjoy Vancouver.

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Mid September I received a call from a lady who lost her diamond engagement ring at 3rd beach in Stanley Park. How to Find a Lost Ring in your Garden in Vancouver/Lower Mainland

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

It happens a lot…You’re out gardening in your back yard and after a long day working on your garden you come to realize that your wedding band or engagement ring is missing! It’s truly a horrible feeling! Where do you start looking? It could be buried in the garden or in a bag of leafs or it went over the fence when you threw away the weeds.

I have found many wedding bands and engagement rings over the years for people and the most important thing to do is… Don’t Throw Away the Bags of Yard Trimmings! That is the big mistake because  that’s where I find lots of the ring!

The next thing to do is go to… www.TheRingFinders.com   and find a metal detecting specialist in your area that can help you find what you thought was lost forever…

Lost Car Keys at 3rd Beach…Stanley Park, Vancouver

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Car keys are important specially when you only have one key!  I received a call yesterday from a young man who explained that he thought he lost his car keys with alarm fob the night before while partying with his friends on the beach. He called me from 3rd beach the following day and I asked him to take pictures of the location so when I got there at night I’d have a good chance to find the car key.

I know the beaches get hit hard by the local treasure hunters so I put out an email to a friend to see if he or anyone he knew were hunting 3rd beach the night before. The answer back was no…

I got the details/pictures over the phone from the young man and off I went at 10 pm to search for the lost key. After arriving I realized I was in the party pit! Fire pits and bottle caps and pull tabs every where!  Almost every swing you got a signal…

I dumped my pouch of crap twice in the garbage and took one load of caps and pull tabs to show you all…I spent 5 1/2 hours searching the area for his lost car key  because I knew it would cost a small fortune to have one cut.

After the first 2 hours I realized I was searching the wrong area…(Always good to have the person there to show you the area) Luckily one of the pictures he sent me had a unique log that look like it had deer antlers,  I was able to find that log and I knew I was in the hot zone.

I always show you videos of my recoveries and blog my story of success…But it doesn’t always have a happy ending! I didn’t find his car key but not for a lack of trying. More then likely the key & fob were sitting on the top of the sand and in the morning someone eyeballed it…Or it was lost some where else…

I always say…I can only find what’s there to be found…If its there…I will Find it!

I found enough to cover my gas…

10- $2.00 coins

3- $1.00 coins

12-25 cent coins

15-10 cent coins

7- 5 cent coins

20- 1 cent coins

3-Rings-1 silver

1-Pair of ladies sun glasses

Bottle caps & Pull Tabs…To many to count! But they are now where they belong…In the Garbage!
