Lost Platinum Ring Found in Front Yard – Gonzales, Louisiana
I received a call from a gentleman in Gonzales, Louisiana, asking if I could help recover a ring that had been lost in their front yard.
The ring had been thrown into the yard during an argument, and afterward they were unable to find it. They had a general idea of the direction it had been thrown and how far they thought it might have traveled, but searching the grass by hand hadn’t turned up anything.
They even bought a metal detector and searched the yard themselves, but after trying to locate the ring with no luck, they decided to reach out for help.
I was available that morning, so I loaded up my metal detecting equipment and headed to Gonzales to see if I could find it.
When I arrived, they showed me where the ring had been thrown from and the area where they believed it should have landed. I started searching the most likely location and then systematically expanded outward.
One of the challenges with a thrown ring is that estimating its flight path can be surprisingly difficult. A small difference in the angle or direction can put it well outside the area where you expect it to be. That turned out to be exactly what happened here. After about 30 minutes of searching with my metal detector, I got the signal I was looking for.

Interestingly, the ring hadn’t traveled nearly as far as they expected. Instead, it had gone much farther to the left of the anticipated path. That put it outside the area where they had been concentrating their search and explained why they hadn’t been able to locate it, even after buying a detector and searching themselves.
The recovered ring was a beautiful 950 platinum ring with multiple stones.
The best part of any recovery is getting to return something that matters to its owner. They were both extremely happy to have the ring back and thanked me repeatedly for coming out and finding it.
What started as a lost ring hidden somewhere in a front yard, and even survived an unsuccessful metal detector search, ended with another successful recovery and the ring back where it belonged.
