Car Key Lost in the Woods, Recovered. Elburn Il.

  • from Rockford (Illinois, United States)

I received a text message from Scott last night 12/20/25 around 6 pm. In the message he told me that he was volunteering at a his local forest preserve early in the day clearing invasive plants and bushes. At the start of their work day Scott put his car key in his jacket pocket and shortly before leaving he reached into the pocket and realized that the car key was missing! He searched online and was lead to a Reddit post that mentioned « The Ring Finders ». We set up a time to meet this morning at the forest preserve. After arriving Scott and I started the 10 minute hike back to where they were working the day before. When we arrived in area of the work I could see lots of footprints in the snow and the large pile of brush that they had piled up. So I started detecting towards the brush pile, covering all of the footprints as I went. Just before reaching the piles I could see some footprints off to my left side and decided to make a sweep over them quick before diving into the giant pile of honeysuckle.  As I did I heard a big grunt of iron. Just as I was bending over to check the signal I could see something black in the snow. It looked like just another leaf or branch, but as I grabbed it I could see the pink keyring moving in the snow!

Success!!

Keys Lost in Snow, Recovered in Elk Grove Village, Illinois

  • from Rockford (Illinois, United States)

Sunday morning, 12/29/2025,  I received a text from Rachel asking if I might be able to help find a set of missing keys that were dropped 2 days ago. The keys went missing right before a big snow storm hit. She dropped them Friday night while she was out walking her dogs before the storm. She had spent hours shoveling snow and looking for them on Saturday and Sunday morning. Sunday morning she found me on TheRingFinders.com.

When I arrived Rachel showed me the path that her and her dogs took to go on their walk Friday night. I started my search from her apartment sidewalk, across the street, to a grass area were she let the dogs run around and play. A hilly area, where Rachel walked along the top of a hill and walked back along the bottom of the hill. So I searched the loop that she walked but, didn’t find them. So I then started searching inside of her loop. On the slippery,  snow covered hillside I got a solid signal! But I knew if I picked up one foot and tried to brush the snow away I would slip and fall down the slope! So I slid down the hill across the signal area! When I looked back, there was the black Steelers lanyard and her keys, that we were looking for!!

Success!!

Another smile for the book!!

Lost and found car/key chain Peterborough Ontario

  • from Cobourg (Ontario, Canada)

Received a text from Ankit last evening about him loosing his key chain, with all his important keys last evening while snow blowing a driveway. While reviewing security camera footage, he was able to see the key chain falling out of his pocket then the snowblower throwing it out onto the yard. After reviewing the videos and pictures, headed out to his location. Snow had to be over 3 feet deep but I knew that the keys would most likely be towards the surface. About 45 minutes later, got a faint iron signal and found his car/key chain about 6 inches deep into the snow. Ankit was extremely happy and relieved.
