This morning, I received a call from Lauren, who was visiting Los Angeles from Chicago and had spent the previous day enjoying Broad Beach in Malibu with her family. Before going for a swim, she wisely removed her wedding ring and placed it in the cup holder of a beach chair, fearing it might slip off in the water.
